We were in the mood for sushi and didn't want to go far so we thought we would try this spot out. I'm so glad we did! To be honest it's in a part of town that I always forget about, so I'm glad it popped up first when I googled it! We got here for an early dinner around 545pm on a Saturday night. There was one other table occupied, and another came in as we were getting our food. The restaurant was a lot bigger than I expected it to be. It was very clean, and all of the booths, tables, and chairs looked like they were in fairly new condition. The owner greeted us as we walked in, waited a few minutes and took our drink order. Before bringing out our drinks she brought over complimentary miso soup and my little loved it! We ordered 2 rainbow rolls and a lobster roll. I always try my go to rolls when trying our a new place, and if I like it, I'll get more daring with the menu! We had enough time to enjoy our soup and talk a little before our rolls came out. It didn't seem rushed, and we were ready to eat! Everything was delicious! The fish on the rainbow roll was fresh and had great flavor and consistency. We loved them! The lobster roll was so good! The sauce drizzled over had a little kick to it, but it wasn't too much at all. The roll wasn't too big, and had a great amount of topping on it. Again, we loved it! The table next to us ordered the garlic edamame and it smelled absolutely divine! I really regret not ordering it as well! Definitely next time!! The prices were pretty consistent with other sushi restaurants, if not a little cheaper. I honestly couldn't believe at 6pm on a Saturday night that it wasn't more packed. I don't know if it's the area, or what because it certainly isn't the food or service. I really hope this spot does well and stays around for a long time. I went to that new Sushi Place in Cherry Valley for the second time now. The lady who helped me with the order was so SO nice. But the food is just painfully subpar. -Tempura Shrimp was limp. -The egg rolls were good. Nice and crunchy. -The Yakisoba tasted like it was pre-made/store bought and then microwaved. -My spicy chicken teriyaki bowl had the same problem as the Yakisoba but the stuff I get at the Sushi Bar at Stater Brothers is FAR better. We usually like going to Darumaya in Banning, but I'm not a Sushi guy and they recently got rid of their rice dishes, the one thing of theirs I really liked eating. But like I said, the lady is SO nice, it just breaks my heart to say the food isn't great. :/ read more

City Sushi is hands down my favorite restaurant in Cherry Valley. As a San Gabriel Valley transplant, one of the things I missed most after moving here was having great Asian dining options, so finding a local spot that serves Japanese *and* Korean food was really exciting. My go-to orders are the salmon sashimi and the Hot Night roll (kind of like a cross between a crunch roll and spicy tuna roll), but my absolute favorite has to be the soft tofu stew (sundubu-jjigae). It's full of flavor, comforting, and feels like healing magic (especially if you're under the weather or hungover). The staff are what makes this place extra special. Joyce, the owner, is so warm and welcoming that dining here feels more like visiting a friend's home than a restaurant. Can't recommend them enough! read more

We went about 30 minutes after opening time and were the only people in the restaurant. While we were seated immediately, it took a while for anyone to take our drink order. A young server, then arrived to work and took over our table and we were actually able to get, some drinks in. We had already given our order to the owner who was very friendly. The beef bulgogi was tender but perhaps a bit bland. We ordered the Baja California roll, but they brought us the Magic Mountain instead. It looked really tasty when it came out so we decided to just keep it. I'm glad we did. It was excellent. Came here hoping for a decent sushi dinner and ended up with one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in a long time. Right away the service was terrible. We stood at the front waiting to be seated for way longer than we should have while multiple staff walked by and completely ignored us. When someone finally came over, the attitude was already there like we were bothering them just by showing up. After we ordered, the food took forever to come out. When it finally did, the order was wrong. I pointed it out politely because it clearly wasn't what we asked for, and instead of apologizing or offering to fix it, she just said the kitchen was "too busy" to remake it and shrugged it off like it wasn't a big deal. The whole time the server had a rude attitude and acted like we were the problem for asking about our order. Between the wrong food, long wait times, and being told the kitchen was too busy to fix their mistake, the whole experience was frustrating and honestly disrespectful. Wouldn't recommend. read more

Visited the Lavender Nights tonight and we decided to eat in the area before heading back to the the OC. We yelped this place and decided to try it. Yelp hours say they are open till 10pm, I decided to call and they said they close at 9pm, we had 45 minutes eat. Lots of parking Sunday evening. The place is clean. They have a small sushi bar. We had Chicken Katsu, Chicken Teriyaki and side order of mixed Tempura. We didn't feel like having sushi tonight. Service was good. A young lady by herself with another party in the dining room with us. She worked with sense of urgency. The Chicken Katsu was $19 and was thinly sliced and the portion was on the smaller side. This is one of my favorite dishes in the Japanese restaurants and this particular dish was nothing special, lacked flavor. My friend had the Chicken Teriyaki and he said it was 4.5. The mixed tempura was good. Nicely fried, but the assortment was more like a side dish rather than an appetizer. It only had 1 squash, 2 onions, 2 shrimps, and 2 zucchini's. Overall, I gave a 3, simply comparing liked dishes from other restaurants. read more

They have indoor dining here. I went to another sushi place nearby and they only did take out. The woman here was very nice and pleasant. I ordered the Cherry Valley Roll, which tasted similar to a California roll, but better. I also had the 8 piece Spicy Tuna Roll which was my favorite. Before placing order, the nice woman told me prices had increased. They still have the old prices on their menu. It looks like they went up a couple of bucks. I think these are recent new owners. My previous people that owned/ran this restaurant were very inviting, greeted you at the door, sushi was good, unique. This time around we went seems to be too fast service because we ordered and in lake 3 mins Later we had our rolls and they looked exactly the same yet we ordered two different names rolls in the menu. We ordered another 2 rolls and same thing, just a few tiny variations of the rolls. Seems like they prepare ahead a basics foundation roll and then out the fish that the roll is about on top. I have been a frequent City Sushi customer for about 5+ years now and last night ( Janurary 25th ) was truly an unfortunately shocking expirence. Upon placing a phone order the young woman receiving my phone order had put in an item wrong which I quickly caught while picking up the order. The item was remade which took about an extra 15 minutes ontop of my wait time and I didn't receive anything as simple as an apology. After finally picking up my order I had taken it to my vehicle and noticed not only was one of my items made completely incorrect but I was given two of the same items. After about a minute of stepping of the establishment I see the worker had followed me out to my vehicle asking for the extra roll back. Now I have no issue with this; my issue begins at the fact I was searched for in the parking lot and followed to my vehicle ( as a woman alone with a BABY ) to be asked for a sushi roll that was sitting open in my car to give to another customer. In my opinion being the other customer receiving a roll that I would have no idea is sitting open in another customers car is horrible. I simply cannot describe it as anything other than disgusting. Now I will say I do understand from the customer service perspective losing money on an order being made incorrectly once, and then an extra item being added to that bag but I cannot get behind searching a parking lot at 8:00PM in the rain for a customer to knock on their window and ask for already opened food back to give someone else. I was truly disappointed and shocked by my expirence in this establishment. read more
