I was deciding between the Beef Stew or the Beef Curry. I decided on the Curry because I was craving that thick, rich, creamy aromatic texture that is known with Curry. On the contrary a stew is known to be more watery, right? Well....the Curry was exactly what I would expect a Stew to be. Watery with potatoes....hmmmm? (see pic.) Also, the chunks of beef had excess fat that hadn't been trimmed. I doubt many people enjoy big lumps of cow fat in their mouths. Maybe trim those? The spices were nice and steamed rice tasted....well like rice that's been steamed. The Prawn Skewer was a bit disappointing. It wasn't grilled it was pan fried....big difference, and for the price the prawns were tiny and what it seemed was they tried to make up for it with veggies (see pic.) Yeah...not really feeling any particular way about this experience, which I guess kinda says it all.

Veggies & Tofu Curry, 3 Kinds of Bean w/ Coconut Milk & Ice
    Dana S.

The first time I was here was 2020 during the covid lockdown. My roommate and I got takeout, and I don't even remember exactly what I ordered but I remember liking it. I was nearby recently and needed dinner so I thought I'd try visiting them again, this time to dine in. I got the veggies and tofu curry on rice. Very good comfort food, flavourful but not overwhelmingly hot, and not oily, making it easy on the palate and the stomach. The portion size was perfect, with a good serving of tofu and lots of vegetables both in the curry and in the salad. I also had the "3 kinds of bean w/ coconut milk and ice". It's under the "drinks" section of the menu but theirs was more of a frozen dessert than a drink since the ice was a little coarse to drink through a straw. It was tasty though, with lots of the toppings. The beans were very filling. They were fairly busy but the food came out pretty quickly. The service here was a step above the hands-off service style that's typical of pho joints. The waitress checked in on me after I got my food to make sure everything was okay, and the whole staff team was really sweet. I think the decoration in the restaurant is fun, it's a little eclectic but not "loud". I would recommend this place over most other "express" Vietnamese restaurants for the experience all-around.

    Satay coconut veggie pho (vegan)

I came here to try their veggie pho and saw that they had a satay coconut version ($15 plus tax; regular veggie pho is $14 plus tax) that's made with peanut butter and coconut milk. My soup came out in about 5 minutes. The portion was solid, with plenty of veggies (broccoli, green cabbage, a few slices of carrots, onions), some triangularly cut firm tofu, and a decent portion of noodles. The broth is what makes or breaks a pho, and this was a nicely spiced, rich satay broth. It was on the sweeter side for a satay pho, which could've been dialed down a bit, but was very flavourful and satisfying nonetheless. Friendly, competent service, and a pleasant enough environment. Worth trying out if you're in this part of downtown.

This place gave me mom-and-pop vibes :) I was in LOVE with my grilled pork vermicelli bowl! Here's what I liked about it: 1) for $12CAD, this is a plentiful amount. I had enough for leftovers for lunch the next day. 2) their spring roll was thiccc and so flavorful and crispy 3) loved how thinly sliced their grilled pork was - actually gave it a good eating feel because it wasn't hard to chew (lol s/o to my efficient easy eating people) Service was fast and the lady that helped us was patient with our large group which we appreciated (yes we had 12 people!). ***They only take cash or debit***

Good and solid place for Vietnamese-Cambodian food downtown! Service is fast and friendly. Portions are good.

Grilled beef, spring roll, and marinated pork with vermicelli

I have no idea what this place is actually called. The name on their main door doesn't match their window which doesn't match their sandwich board which is different from their menu and not the same as their chopsticks. Anyway you can find this place just off the Granville strip and down the street from the Penthouse. Was here for lunch yesterday and ordered the grilled beef, spring roll, and marinated pork with vermicelli. It all tasted delicious, every last bit of it. There's not too many South East Asian cuisine in this general area so it's definitely recommended by me. Only downside is that it seems very stuffy and warm inside. They do have outdoor seating but the tables weren't clean when I got there and there was a little piece of broccoli on my tea cup. So 4 stars overall.

    Communal chopsticks! So homey!

I was looking for decent pho in the downtown core and this did the trick. I love that they still use some of the decorations from the old burger joint, and that they put up a bunch of neon signs (you aren't a legit pho place if you aren't rocking some neon signs). The service is pretty decent - my spring rolls took a long time to come - we were half-way through our noodles by the time they arrived. The pho is good, the broth has a good flavour without looking murky. The satay soup noodles are pretty spicy! My mouth was on fire but it was delicious regardless. I think they went a bit light on the tripe. The prices are decent for noodles (maybe a dollar more than what you'd find outside of downtown), but the spring rolls I felt were a bit pricy for their quality. The place had a decent flow of people while we were there, several getting take-out and we even bumped into some friends there! I'd certainly come back if I have another pho craving. Note: cash only!

This little diner is supposed to serve Vietnamese and Cambodian (khmer) cuisine. Having just travelled Cambodia and Vietnam extensively - I'm guessing this is run by Vietnamese folks who lived in Phnom Penh for a bit and decided to put a couple of Vietnamese interpretations of Cambodian food on the menu. Amok is a classic khmer dish but the people here have no idea what it is. And the Cambodian dishes are super spicy - which is nothing like in Cambodia. Overall the food was pretty decent but definitely in that average range for this type of cuisine and price. I'm hoping they bring up their game because I'd love to have a close place to go a get some decently priced authentic food. BTW, the last 2 places in this location went bankrupt in the past 3 years so we'll see how it goes..

The space is much nicer, with high ceilings and lots of light - great looking bistro. I ended up trying the following: - Mussels: Very good. Classic dish, but I really like the use of cream in the broth. - Bánh Mì Cay Hải Phòng (Spicy Baguette Sticks): Good. A nice little snack, although it would be easy to recreate at home. - Lamb Chops: Very good. Cooked just right, and the pepper sauce added extra flavour. - Fried Frog Legs: Very good. This was probably the surprise dish for me. They weren't just the legs, but the entire bottom of the frog, so the pieces were huge. The garlic, butter and chili flakes gave it a extra punch. I really enjoyed this one. - Pho Bo: Good. Not the best pho I've had, but it's good enough to stand on it's own. Service was quite good. Very cheerful and quite attentive. Overall a nice meal. It's a great space, the food is solid, and service to match. What I really like is having the variety of both French and Vietnamese dishes, without either of them suffering in quality. Only downside is that is it expensive for what you get.

The bone broth was good and the price for the mini version is good for a light lunch. We both enjoyed the spicy baguette stick with the pork pate. A pleasant surprise. However i find the escargot a bit pricey with the quantity and the way it was prepared. Slightly too oily to my personal prefence The iced vietnamese coffee we ordered tasted similar to a regular iced coffee, missing the sweet condensed milk flavor for a vietnamese coffee

Went in for lunch with my granddaughter, both of us fans of Vietnamese food. Ordered Green Papaya Salad ($12), Lemongrass Chicken on Vermicelli with one spring roll ($17), one lime soda ($6.50) and one pop ($3). Food arrived within minutes of ordering. Portions were very generous. The salad was perfect with everything very fresh, as it should be but often isn't in some places. Plump prawns and the scent and taste of basil was prominent. Delicious! The lemongrass chicken (we ordered extra chicken) with a spring roll was also very generous. We did not finish it between the two of us. Again, all was fresh, tasty and hot. This is one of our standard orders and Pho Goodness did not disappoint. Granddaughter declared it better than at our regular favourite, and Pho Goodness is around the corner from her home and not a bus ride out to Kingsway! Service was friendly and responsive. We asked that the volume be turned off on the massive TV over our heads (which nobody was watching) (it was), requested a glass for the pop and immediately received a tumbler full of ice. Lovely. We have found a new favourite on Davie Street, a true foodie heaven with a collection of independent restaurants of many ethnicities available. My wife and I stopped in for dinner one evening and each ordered the aforementioned noodle soup--she got a small ($11.75 plus tax) and I got a regular ($12.75 plus tax). We also got an order of salad rolls ($7.50 plus tax), which comes with 2 rolls. The rolls came quite late. They were pretty standard, coming with fried tofu, vermicelli, and lettuce. The peanut dipping sauce was on the liquidy, salty soy sauce side of things -- I wish it were creamier and less salty. 3/5 The soups were decent. The broth was peppery, with some nice, gentle spices detectable in there. I asked for a side of chili oil, which helped amplify the broth. You get a generous portion of noodles, fried tofu, and vegetables (broccoli, bok choy, carrot). Unfortunately the veggies were quite overcooked -- the broccoli was almost soggy, so were the carrots and bok choy. 3/5 All in all, middle-of-the-road veggie pho. The broth is pleasant. The veggies were overcooked, but plentiful and nicely chosen. Decent place for veggie pho.
