This crew is the BEST! Dr. Zalay is a gem, so incredibly great at her job and makes coming into the dentist fun. She fixed my snaggletooth! Also, I moved in the middle of my care and had to get my retainers shipped. Long story short, the postal system mislabeled them and Regina (from the front desk) worked tirelessly to make sure the postal service found them. That is DIFFICULT to do, but UAD cares and works around the clock to make their clients happy. Could not recommend them enough! Do yourself a favor and make an appointment. read more

Not many of us look forward to visiting the dentist. However, the staff's professionalism and friendliness at University Associates in Dentistry put any negative preconceived notions to rest. Pre-appointment check-in is online and can easily be done on your phone and is a time saver. The location is in the heart of downtown Chicago. Dr. Sam Kang has a warmth and kindness that made the appointment feel like it was a meeting with an old friend. He's able to explain the treatment plan in a way that makes you feel confident that you're in great hands and getting a better smile in the near future. I look forward to the future visits! I had a strong displeasure of vising Dr Schelkopf for a consultation for vaneers after being recommended by my dentist. He said that he couldn't help me because if I grind my teeth, any work that he would do would be compromised. I said I will wear a retainer, and asked if we could do less teeth instead. The Dr again said that he couldn't do work on me as he would have to do the entire upper set of teeth and he suspected it would be too expensive for me, which I found disrespectful. Seems he cares more about his reputation than about helping people and offering real solutions. read more

Dr. Baer is great, as are the hygienists I've worked with, but I don't recommend buying stuff from this office. The water flosser they recommended has such Byzantine instructions that I asked to come in and get a quick tutorial; instead they sent me a video for the wrong model, and when I pointed this out they sent me another one that suggests that either what they sold me (and these things are expensive) is missing a cube that plugs into an electrical source and fits the device's USB plug, or that they somehow expect me to come up with such a thing (the plug is the wrong size for a standard phone-charging port). They clearly don't give a rat's ass about customer service and this does not inspire confidence. I guess they don't realize their customers have, like, you know, lives, and limited time to screw around? read more

Dr. Zalay, You are simply amazing! Thank you for making me smile confident again. She is simply an amazing human who loves her job with care. I got my smile back! I never thought I could smile so confidently as I do right now. I had crooked teeth with huge gaps ( top & bottom). Many dentists told me that wearing braces or getting an Invisalign was impossible because I had an implant in my front teeth. Long story short, I can never close those gaps, and that is how my teeth will remain for the rest of my life. ( My teeth can not move because of the implants). Dr. Zalay and her assistant, Amanda, change the whole story. It was truly a challenge, but she accepted it in good faith! Dr. Zalay does such an incredible job working with me to get an Invisalign. University Associates in Dentistry changed my life and words can't even express how thankful I am for everything they have done for me. In my early 20s I found out I had external resorption with extensive bone loss on my front tooth. Every dentist, periodontist, and oral surgeon that I had seen commented on how my case was the worst case they have ever seen. I had experienced several surgeries and failed bone graphs which led to a bridge that I knew would not be a forever fix and a complete loss of confidence. Once I moved to the city, a friend in the field referred me to Dr. Baer.  She told me he was the best of the best and she could not have been any more right. Dr. Baer allowed me to regain hope and confidence. His expertise in the field is unmatched. He successfully completed multiple bone grafts which allowed me to receive  an implant. He made the process as stress free as possible and kept me laughing along the way. From there, Dr. Schelkopf facilitated the finished product by customizing my implanted tooth and crowns for the other front teeth. He did an absolutely beautiful job and has an eye for detail. Dr. Schelkopf's work is amazing. I did not have any pain whatsoever from shots nor from the implant! My previous dentist in Florida had totally messed up my veneers to a point that I was not even comfortable talking letting alone smiling. Dr. Schelkopf brought my natural smile back to better than it has ever been! I traveled from Florida to Chicago to have them redone and it was so worth it!!! We had fun while we were at it, staying at Chicago Renaissance only 5 minutes walking distance to his office and even closer to Chicago Theatre where they have great shows. I had a wonderful experience getting implants and crowns from Dr.'s Baer and Schelkopf at UAD. They impressed me right away at the consultation when they truly listened to me and really made sure I understood what the plan was and was happy with everything. I had pretty much all of my visible front teeth worked on plus a couple in the back and they did such a good job. After a decade of having missing then crooked teeth that made eating stressful I finally feel great smiling and can eat naturally again. They look real and I know the Doctors put a lot of work into making sure that they did. It is seriously beautiful work and the whole process was comfortable and reassuring. Dr. Zalay and the rest of the team were incredible. From the very beginning of my journey, the team has been understanding, helpful, and compassionate in taking care of me and my teeth. Been going to UAD for about 5 years now after I started randomly grinding my teeth. My godmother's referral got me in for some "emergency" work to handle that minor issue quickly and I signed on to be a regular client ever since. Dr. Marcus kills it and, unlike past dental experiences, doesn't make me feel guilty for not doing things with my teeth and gums perfectly. Two examples: "I should floss more huh?" "Yes, but ease into it." "Do I *need* X-rays?" "Yes, but you can always wait 'til next time." Knock on wood, I haven't had any problems since so I can't speak to the other services, but if you're in the City and confused by the options (I swear there's a dentist on every corner these days), Dr. Marcus is definitely worth checking out. Showing me the "before" picture from Duncan Keith's 2010 playoff "mishap" was a tad much though ;) In any case, I hated the dentist more than anything until I started going to UAD. read more

Dr. Marcus and his team are absolutely wonderful. They are all completely professional and easy to talk to. I originally went to get full on top veneers and Dr. Marcus was nothing but knowledgeable, kind and made me feel at complete ease. One of the steps in my veneer process was a gingivectomy. It sounds completely horrifying but with Dr. Marcus it was completely painless. It is a process where they numb you up and re-shape your gums so that they look more symmetrical to your face. I did not feel a thing - only a slight shot of Novocaine which is normal. Given the amazing look of my new gums I decided not to go through with the veneers and Dr. Marcus could not be more understanding. His goal is to make you look good. He never pushes or rushes. I have nothing but amazing things to say about Dr. Marcus and would recommend him to anyone looking for a nice, professional, easy to talk to dentist in the city. read more

I moved to Chicago about two years ago and my dentist back home recommended Dr. Baer and his team. He said if I lose a tooth these are the guys to help me out! :) I don't ever plan on losing teeth however my experience at UAD has been a pleasant one so far! My hygienist is Kathy Laskodi and she's great. You won't find many hygienists better than her! I have seen both Dr. Baer and Dr. Taylor for my check ups and recommend them both. I have also worked with Dr. Marcus for a consultation to get a gap closed. Overall, UAD is good and their staff very professional and friendly. Dr. Baer and his staff are excellent. Russ has been my dentist since 2000. Recently I had an implant done. Honestly it looks better than my original tooth! I'm so thankful my smile has gotten better with age. :) Really. He matched the color of the implant to the rest of my teeth perfectly. That was not easy to do. Dr. Delf is fantastic! UAD uses start of the art technology to diagnose your mouth and then they have the expertise (Dr. Delf) to execute. If you have a bite that's not right and need Invisalign, ask for Dr. Delf. If you have a smile that you're not happy with, just ask for Dr. Delf. In all seriousness, Dr. Delf is a highly acclaimed Dental professional and one of her areas of expertise is Invisalign. I had a severe bite problem that was deteriorating my teeth. I have a MAJOR dental phobia, in addition to being blessed with not so great genetics and thus not so great teeth. I originally went to UAD over a X-mas holiday years ago as I had lost a tooth and my current dentist was out for the holiday, and I couldn't find anyone else to see me. I was in pain and in a panic - and Dr. Marcus saved the day. I went back until I lost my dental insurance, saw no one for a couple of years (not good) and have just started going back again on a regular basis this year now that I have dental insurance under my husband's health plan. Once again they are working with me to fix my variety of dental issues. True, it is not cheap, but it is SOOOO worth it. I have seen Dr. Marcus and two other dentists there, and everyone is kind and patient with me and my phobia... they've probably seen me crying and about to hyperventilate on several occasions, but they work with me on my issues, go at my pace, are very gentle and do a damn fine job too. Unlike other dentist's offices I had experienced, I have never been mocked or teased or even looked at funny when I burst into tears or ask them to stop because I feel panicky. They are so good... I could go on and on - I just can't say enough nice things about UAD and their entire staff. Major thumbs up in my book. read more

After reading some of the reviews on here, I'm totally perplexed by some of them. I've been going here for over ten years and have not had anything but an amazing experience. I send my five adult kids here now too. My first visit was ten years ago when I had moved to Hinsdale and had gotten the recommendation for a dentist there. He attempted to remove a cavity in one of my molars but didn't fill it correctly and I was in constant pain. A friend went to UAD and recommended Dr. Marcus so I went to see him. He spent a very long time trying to save my tooth from a root canal as the previous dentist did such a hatchet job on it. Success!! He saved my tooth from a root canal! Pain GONE!! He then continued on to fix all my molars with old fillings from when I was like 12 years old. He is amazingly meticulous, highly professional and a dentist who cares about doing a perfect job. Can't comment on the others as I always go to him and will continue. I've only been to one hygienist Kathy Laskodi and she is hands down the best I've ever had too. She gets right down to the gum line and makes sure every last bit of plaque is GONE! I walk out of there feeling incredible. I honestly would never go to another dentist or hygienist again. Not to mention they both have great smiles and amazing personalities which makes it actually fun to go to the dentist office! On top of this, the front desk people are friendly, professional and VERY accommodating. I have 5 adult 'boys' who I still have to remind to get cleanings and who are in town sporadically and they go to great lengths to fit them in at the last minute. I recently saw Dr. Zalay and am beyond happy with my switch to University Associates in Dentistry. I can be a bit squeamish about seeing the dentist but having a cavity filled by Dr. Zalay was actually a pleasure - I'm not sure how that is possible but I somehow walked away with healthy teeth and having truly enjoyed my time in the chair. I felt at ease, taken care of, and that I was in the hands of a consummate professional. Highly recommended!!! read more

I feel truly lucky to be Dr. Baer's patient. Within less than a year, I had a tooth pulled out, an implant, a crown on another tooth, and a filling in a difficult spot -- all done by him. I think he is a much better specialist precisely because he hasn't narrowed his specialization as other dentists regularly do. This allows him to approach his patients' dental idiosyncrasies holistically. While other dentists I've seen in the past tend to exaggerate the problem in order to make you realize how good they are at fixing it, Dr. Baer never boasts. He does not need to -- his expertise is obvious. Moreover, his is realistic, down-to-earth, with a good sense of humor. The staff at UAD is wonderfully competent. No false smiles to cover omissions. No long waiting. They really seem to know how to schedule. Everyone is behaving naturally and their main concern is doing a good job. On top of all that, while UAD is not cheap, they seem to by slightly cheaper than other good dentists in the same area. read more

Once I paid in full, they were done with me. Dr. Baer would not return my calls or emails. I talked to the front desk on the phone several times to ask that he respond to my emails. Then, I left messages for his partner in the practice, hoping to reach Dr. Baer through him. That didn't work either. I have a lisp after my implants that I did not have before. Dr. Baer finally did call after many months. It was like pulling teeth that weren't loose. read more

I've been going to this dentist's office since my old dentist in Hyde Park shut down (quite a few years ago now). I like this office because they have all the latest technology and tons of hygienists, so you can try a few out before you settle on one you like (or just keep using different ones). I've always seen Dr. Baer since he is the one I was originally referred to and he's been great as far as my experience goes. The only major work I've had done by him is a crown, and that has been successful so far (we avoided a root canal). One of the nicest things about the office is the front desk staff who are always very, very polite and kind and helpful. I don't think I've ever been to any kind of medical or dental office where every single front desk person is super professional and free of "attitude." These people are really the best when it comes to customer service and I do not say that lightly. Rude/indifferent front desk people are one of my pet peeves, but I never feel that at UAD. I also get Botox from Dr. Zalay and it's no-nonsense and less expensive than at spa-type places and I also trust her with the needles because she's a dentist. read more
