I love to come here to get Chinese ingredients. They have almost everything. Dried ingredients section, fruits and vegetables section, fish and meats section and etc. I got what I needed and made the Chinese New Year sweet treats for my family. :)

Yelp took off my picture of the cats living in the produce. Went back to get packaged rice, smells like a litter box.

    FAT!!!!!

Zero star! The pork is prepackage so you can't see what is underneath. Sooo much FAT, it's a rip off. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!!!

I come here often to buy fish to cook for my family. I love this Chinese American community. Would recommend in a heartbeat and frequent here for my grocery needs!

Use-by date of April 14 and one of the mold spots

Three weeks ago, I bought two packages of Shanghai noodles; used one that night, and put the other in the fridge (the use-by date was April 14). I pulled the second package out last week and found small patches of mold under the plastic wrap. I'm guessing maybe the noodles hadn't been refrigerated correctly? Worse, when I went back to the market and was in a checkout line, planning to return the package, I saw a mouse darting in and out from beneath the counter. (When it made a break for the counter at the front of the store, I pointed it out to the checkout woman, who shrieked--a sign that mouse sightings are not an everyday occurrence? I hope so!) They did offer me a fresh package of noodles, but...no. I'll get them somewhere else from now on.

A complete hit or miss but it is practically a one stop shop (although arguably all of Irving between 22nd and 25th is). Sometimes the meat and produce here is so unbelievably cheap and delicious (like when we got super tender chicken legs for $0.99/lb and delectable dark Bing cherries for $1.99/lb) but other times things are clearly cheap because theyre on the brink of expiration. So if you are buying fruits and veggies here definitely triple check for mold. With that said some people purposely buy the expired produce because it is significantly cheaper... The collection of snacks and sauces (there is an ENTIRE AISLE dedicated to sauces!) here is bomb dot com. I am obsessed with these crackers that are flavored with salted duck egg and I can't find them anywhere else. There's a good selection of che too if you come early enough. There's a small parking lot across the street too which is nice (although it's usually filled up during the busiest hours)!

My mom came in here to get some groceries to bring home after eating dinner nearby. This market has most Asian stuff you need including fruits, veggies, snacks, meat, seafood, noodles and all other items. The market is dirty and not kept well as most in SF. Found a couple horseflies around the apricots. I have read comments on how the employees and cashiers can be rude and indifferent. This is usually common due to culture. My mom got her stuff and checked out. She doesn't care about all the things detailed above. She is just satisfied to shop for the items she wanted. She lives in Marin County but on occasion is in SF and brings stuff home since she is near all of these shops.

I just found out we got double charge of $25.70 on my card this is stealing money from people. This store is also disgusting no restrooms for the costumer. I'd rather go to Safeway or Andronico just got rob from this store the clerk double slide my card I will never going to buy any single grocery here. Also the meat quality is very bad.!!plus I bought a watermelon here last year & the just to find out the water melon was rotten that is why the put it on sale.

Expired and I just got it today which is 10/22/2019
    Philip W.

I have been shopping here for some time, however, been disappointed lately. The staff has not been doing a good job with inventory and expiring foods. They have items I need for cooking, and so I will be shopping for particular items.

    David S.

Reminds me of a Vietnamese store I used to frequent in San Diego - pungent fish smell. Dirty floors. But great options. It is hard to decide between the variety of Asian stores up and down Irving. If you're smart, you'll notice the price differences: today I snagged heads of cauliflower at Sunset Super for $0.79. Over at 22nd and Irving Market, they're more than a dollar. It is a little thing, but it adds up with every item. I love the "pasta" section here because it is every type of Asian noodle along this huge aisle, and then this tiny selection of macaroni noodles. No pasta sauce or parmesan. This is a good market with lots of produce and fresh meat, too. Friendly cashiers who do their jobs quickly.

How have I lived for almost 60 years with this? After enjoying fantastic food at Cinderella's Bakery on Balboa for 3 weeks, we decided to expand on our horizons, so we took a little field trip on our bikes to 3 different Russian Markets on Geary. The staff at Royal are not at all friendly or helpful with my questions, but they were quick and efficient once I made up my mind, and and packed it all to go with great care. Luckily, I can tell good food when I see it, and can just go with my own instinct. I made excellent choices here! The prepared food I took home from Royal was delicious. We had Veal Cutlet Parmegian, one topped with tomatoes, one with mushrooms. Amazing! Ground Lamb Skewers. Amazing! Tabouli Salad.....just the right mixed of herbs and lemon. Amazing! The Borscht Soup was ok, but I will get it from Cinderellas from now on, as that was much better for my taste. We pick up a bunch of fresh dill to garnish our take home food, that was a little pricey but very fresh, beautiful and flavorful. I will be back again soon with more confidence to make my selections without requiring any help at all from the staff.

It's on Geary street and it's called First Korean Market. On a Spring through Geary Boulevard in San Francisco I landed at First Korean Market. I use to come here to shop for groceries a decade ago. Locals tip: Walk right past the grocery aisles and head straight to the plastic containers at the deli counter. This is a family-run operation, and their ready-to-eat section is elite. First, grab a roll of the Fish Cake Kimbap. It's rolled perfectly tight with sesame-flavored rice, egg, pickled radish, and savory fish cake--it's the ultimate hand-held snack. But the real showstopper is their Sweet Crispy Chicken Wings. This is traditional Dakgangjeong. It's a sticky, sweet glaze heavy on the honey, garlic, and ginger, coated over ultra-crunchy deep-fried wings. It's messy, it's garlicky, and it blows most restaurant appetizers out of the water. This is a lovely, family-run business with quick, friendly service. Keep in mind that street parking on Geary can be tight, but it's entirely worth the quick stop. Dear Cody, In the…read morepast several months or so, I would take occasional walks down to Boss Supermarket to pick up a few items for the fridge. I wouldn't call Boss an especially appealing market to visit. The floors are a bit grimey, a byproduct of water from the fish tanks and a lack of concern from both management and shoppers. The way the sole of my shoe sticks slightly to random tiles feels like a surprisingly interesting sensation, but in a half disgusting sort of way, I guess. As I navigate around the market, my shoe peels off to produce an audible chhhhweeeck sound reminiscent of furious tape and paper unwrapping on Christmas mornings. All in all, along with poor lighting, the unique smell of 'choy sum' on shelves, and a general sense of musty-ness, Boss Supermarket absolutely captures the authenticity of the Chinese supermarket in San Francisco. None of the things I mentioned above actually bothers me, at least not enough to stop me from getting a pack of Vitasoy and a jar of spicy pickled bamboo shoots. The former is a vegan drink option for Mommy, and Boss carries the black soy milk flavor (not to be confused with the chocolate soy milk flavor), which is a rarity in these parts of the city. The latter is a eating habit I've picked up on recently. The spicy bamboo serves as an excellent side to white rice. When time is low and Mommy is too pressed for time to come up with a fun dinner, these bamboo shoots can literally spice up a bland meal. But then there are the extremely narrow aisles. Standing side by side in a Boss Supermarket aisle, you may be able to fit one average sized man and a slender praying mantis. Imagine a clumsy person trying to shop here with a grocery list in hand. Not an excellent experience. Yet, it's not so much the claustrophobic layout that annoys me. It's the other shoppers. Cody, growing up in the Sunset you'll meet a lot of older folks from Grandmama's generation, perhaps slightly older. In these parts of Noriega especially, they may lug around a grocery cart and fashion an abnormally large visor. Tennis shoes ideal for walking, multi-purpose windbreaker, and the double facemask round out their staple. Everything about them screams utility and efficiency, and they bring that mentality straight into the narrow aisles of Boss supermarket. Sometimes, and I mean sometimes in a very frequent sort of way, they value their need for efficiency over their respect of my personal space. They may squeeze around the back of me without uttering a word. Bumps and nudges like they're jostling in the box for a rebound. And the most egregious -- overt cutting in line with no regard for me and my six pack of vitasoy and jar of spicy bamboo shoots. It annoys me. It shouldn't. I'm not really hurt when their elbows scrape across my arm. I can very well afford the 30 additional seconds I stand waiting in line when they dart in front of me at the cash register. But I am. I am annoyed. I am annoyed that people can be so narrow in their thinking that they see only themselves. That they disregard others in their vicinity, their community. So narrow in their thinking they think of no one but themselves. And as I'm writing this, it annoys me that I didn't realize that this applied to myself as well. Cody, part of our community are the older folks from Grandmama's generation. For those folks, they lived in a generation past, an ocean away, a world apart. Stories from Grandmama and Great Gramps tell me that it was a world without luxury, and at times too often, a world without food. For many, it was a constant scrap for the next meal, or even just the next bite. An 'excuse me' sounds most out of place when everyone has acknowledged that there is a fight for the next handful of rice. If I am not so narrow in my thinking that I think of no one but myself, then I may have been more understanding of how experiences can shape our upbringing. That superficial manners are far from a judge of character. If my thinking were not so narrow, then perhaps I would realize I am the one who is disregarding others in my community. Upon reflection, it is obvious that I can do better. Easier said than done, my son. When I am annoyed, I am annoyed. In a flash of a moment, it may be hard to hide my scowl as another person cuts me in line at Boss Supermarket. I tell you this in hopes that you can do better than your old man. Maybe with this understanding in your pocket, you grow up to be more charitable to what I wrongfully perceived as 'discretions'. And maybe when I fail to hide my displeasure by the cash register, you can tug on my arm as your discreet signal to remind your dad to check himself. Maybe. Or maybe that will be asking too much of you. How about this? When we go to Boss together, we will look around, and naturally I would think, we would be reminded that we should not allow our thinking to be as narrow as the aisles that surround us. Love always, Daddy
