Back in the day this place was named Beans, and as it served early breakfast I went down to try it for the first time in 50 years. The steak (ribeye) and eggs with toast and home fries is $24, and was a hearty, tasty breakfast this morning. Add coffee and a tip and my visit there was $31. The ribeye was ordered medium rare and served the same. It was a decent and fairly good size piece of meat. Scrambled eggs are difficult to mess up and were fine along with some toast and home fries. The service was good and it is a place to which I would definitely return. When it was Beans restaurant 50 years ago they were famous for serving popovers, which now they serve on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I may have to come back and try one again read more

I have not been here for years , after a bad experience. If you like homestyle food, this is the place for you. We went in for the all you can eat fish fry. I got mine with onion rings . It's until the fish runs out Friday special. Came in an hour before closing . Still had it available. It was not too busy in there. The waitress seemed friendly. So the fish arrived with onion rings , cole slaw and pre packaged tarter sauce . We had coffee as a beverage. The coffee was on the weak side .I asked what the fish was and she said pollock . I could not tell if it was fresh or frozen . It was cooked to order and was not greasy . It was breaded in a corn meal breading . I was able to have lemon . It was $14. My guest had the hand cut fries. He said they were not crispy . My onion rings were good , cole slaw was dry. The fish tasted fine I'm just not a fan of corn meal breading . I would have got a different dish if I had known . No one came back after we were just sitting there done to see if we would like more . I had to go ask someone for more for both of us. That was enough for us. The price is right . Food was mediocre. Service could have been better. I'd like to try breakfast when they have pop overs . The parking is sketchy lol park where you can fit . They do have alcoholic drinks but you won't find them listed where you think you would find them , near beverages . Prepackaged tarter sauce . On the way to the Oxford Casino? Definitely recommend the extra few miles to get to this place. Walk-in and choose your table or booth. Every day they have a different fresh homemade muffin. Get it grilled! Got a breakfast bowl last time and yesterday a sausage and cheese omelette with a toasted English muffin and ordered a side of home fries and it was delicious. Been going to Market Square since before it was Market Square. Was called Bean's. Usually get a decent meal there. However; today (Friday) I went in about 3:15 pm and they had open face prime rib on the specials board. I ordered haddock chowder which was quite good and ordered the prime rib. The prime rib was obviously from the day before, sliced real thin, and real dry. I heard the waitress telling another couple that came in about 3:45 that the prime rib on Friday isn't ready until about 4:30. I was not informed of this and got the old cut. After many years as a loyal customer, am seriously considering not frequently there in the future. read more

I would give higher than a 5/5 if possible for this review. While struggling to get food together in a short amount of time for a large event, we reached out to Mike (one of the owners) to see if they would be able to help us out. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had the food and supplies necessary to host a great time! The food was delicious and ready for us to eat hours after it was prepared. We ordered Dinner on Friday, Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday - all 3 meals were outstanding and very filling! I was in this remote area of Maine for a weekend on business, and searching for a place to eat. After reading the glowing review already left, my wife and I decided to give it a try, mostly because all the other places in town were either fast food or outdated mom n' pop type places. The place was just ok, in my opinion. We ended up spending around $50 on a meal for the two of us, with an appetizer and I am accustomed to getting pretty gourmet food for that price in my home area in North Carolina. I ordered the lobster claw/knuckle for an appetizer. The lobster could have been seasoned a bit more, and the butter it was in didn't taste like real butter (perhaps margarine?). I ordered a lobster roll with coleslaw and french fries. The fries were just ok, a bit on the greasy side, and the lobster roll was a cold 'lobster salad' type sandwich (for some reason I thought I was getting hot lobster, oh well). The coleslaw was just average in taste. My wife ordered the stuffed breaded haddock with sweet potato fries. Her fries tasted pretty good. The haddock was just a haddock filet with lots of stuffing/breading packed around it. It was probably the best seasoned thing we had, but the ratio of fish/breading seemed a little off balanced for the price ($15). We were full so didn't get dessert. It was just ok .. it might be the best there is around here though, not too many other places looked real promising. read more

My husband wanted a hamburger and fries, so a local recommended Market Square restaurant. It was a cute place, and the waitress was very nice. My husband ordered his hamburger AND a hot dog (red or brown??) and a milk shake and fries. I ordered a haddock basket, which was a special of the day. The milk shake was delicious. The food took awhile to arrive and I wish, in some ways, that my meal had stayed in the kitchen. The haddock was obviously prebreaded and frozen. It was barely warm and very dry. You would think that a restaurant in Maine would have fresh haddock, which is readily available. The cole slaw was a little too sweet, but added a little moisture to the dry fish. And, believe it or not, the French fries were cold and tough. We had never had tough French fries. Thank goodness we won't have to go back. read more

If your cruising through the area looking for somewhere reasonably priced to eat at, then your looking for Market Square. I took other commenters suggestion and avoided ordering fish and chips. The sandwich selection is sizable and the salad bar looks fresh and delicious. I caved in and ordered the lobster roll and have zero regrets. I've had plenty lobster rolls in my several visits to Maine and I would go as far as to say this one beats the famous Two-lights lobster rolls. Very happy with my lunch selection. First, last, and only trip today. Took forever to get our drinks, asked for a medium rare steak and received a piece of overcooked seasoned leather, asked for mushrooms and onions on the steak and had to wait 10 minutes AFTER the steak arrived, the onions were burned on the outside and raw on the inside, my boyfriend asked for ketchup on his burger and didn't get it. The only good thing about the trip was that they didn't charge us for the steak dinner, since it wasn't eaten. Unless you want to be frustrated, don't go to this restaurant.... read more

Mixed bag. I've eaten here twice; the first time I had their fish sandwich, and found it better than any other I've tried anywhere in Maine. Yesterday I had their Mini Surf, which consisted of a lobster roll (meaning a scoop of lobster with mayo on a bun with lettuce - I was hoping for a clear meat roll) which was passable, french fries (which seemed rather industrial and overly greasy - pre-cooked and re-warmed, perhaps?) and coleslaw (very tasty, but was the first instance of coleslaw soup I've ever had - very, very runny). Both times the service was speedy, but both times I got the overall feeling that our servers were just putting in their time; "flat affect" is the term I would use. For years, I lived down the road from Market Square Restaurant and never got a chance to visit. Sure I wanted to, as friends and relatives heaped praise on the place, but sometimes things just don't work out. Well, while we were taking a scenic and ambling drive up north, we found ourselves somehow back in Paris and were also quite hungry. I figured now was a pretty good time to try it out, as I was in the company of someone who'd never been as well, so we went on in and were seated immediately. It was before the end of the normal work day but well after lunch so it wasn't very crowded, definitely a difference from what I used to see even when we were just passing through to Sunday River. The waitress was extremely pleasant and friendly, and was probably one of the best waitresses/waiters I've ever had! She gave us enough space to enjoy our meals while still managing to show up whenever we needed something else - regardless of what it was. To start, we had the Potato Skins were just amazing and, for the price, was a very generous portion (8 large skins)! They used real bacon, cut into smaller strips, instead of bacon bits. The skins were huge, and had a bit more potato than I'm used to on potato skins but it was definitely better that way. The only downside was that the sour cream was on the side, so it was very cold and didn't seem to go together with the very hot potatoes... although I suppose we should have just mixed it together! Next I had the Turkey Club with fries, and my boyfriend had the Chicken Parmesan sub with fries. The fries were handcut and very tastey, and our sandwiches were very good. The turkey wasn't deli meat but actual, thick slices of turkey breast. My only complaint was my bacon was slightly crispier than I like it, but my boyfriend tried some and didn't seem to mind! I tried a bit of his Chicken Parm and it was simply delicious! The chicken was just the right level of crispiness. We were too full for dessert (and had to take half our food home with us!), although I'm sure it would have been amazing; and we were pleasantly surprised about the free refills - especially since the soda didn't taste very watered down or syrupy at all. Overall, the restaurant had a very homey/small-town atmosphere, which honestly it should as that is what that area is. I always felt comfortable there, and this restaurant really captured that feeling. It is real honest, simple, and good food - and not very expensive at all! If we hadn't ordered the appetizer, it would have been just about $10 per person for what we ordered, although if we had an entree it would have been closer to $15/person. We haven't been to Mkt Sq Restauraut for a long time so tonight we went before going to the movies! Now, some would argue I am cheap and I may agree but 1 cheeseburger patty without the bun (my choice) and a one trip salad bar which is has few options and an unsweetened ice tea was $17! If I wanted Lettuce it was extra. Same for tomato or onion! Next time I am eating the F'n bun! But then again, there probably won't be a next time! Food was good. Service was okay. We sat at the bar to avoid taking up room at a large table. Waitresses gabbed about customers and tip amounts as well as about being out of multiple items. Complained about having to make chocolate milk because they were out. My boyfriend I and work at Disney so we expect top notch service, something we felt we didn't get due to the complaining going on behind the bar.
