Had a great time at 290 Wine Castle this weekend and my friend and I got there at the perfect time. It wasn't too busy or crowded. Jen was assisting/serving us and she was great! I personally had the Mixed Sweet Tasting and the frozen sangria was AMAZING! So sad I didn't buy a pouch on my way out. The meat lover's pizza was also really good! Enjoyed a nice, cool breeze outside on the deck but it was a bit windy so if you're outside with a breeze, try to use your wine glass or something to hold your plates down while you eat since they're paper. You get there and the title says everything...A Wine Castle. And that's what it is! Not only the inside decoration is amazing, but the inside is as well. They have a great selection of wines and some snacks are also on the menu The pizzas are to die for. They are thin, crispy and the flavors just melt in your mouth. They are very knowledgeable about their wines. I ws there with other "regulars" and I was treated like I was one of them too. Inside the castle there are little cute places around it where you can sit and have a private conversation. They also have a private room for parties. If you get tired of being indoors you can also enjoy your wine on the back patio, and enjoy the view. I heard of a dungeon, but never been there. This was the third stop in a self guided wine tour for my moms birthday celebration. This location is large, especially the outside patio. We went during a slow time so it was nice to essentially have the place to ourself. As cute as the idea of the castle is, it does seem a little outdated, ironically. We did the dry red tasting, which included five tastings. I would say 4 out of the 5 were great. The truffles paired very nicely with the wine and were a surprisingly great additive. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. I felt the price was a touch steep compared to other places we had visited, reason for the four stars. Overall, I would recommend this winery to stop by at least once to try out for yourself. read more

This place is majestic just like you could imagine. The service was excellent. A lot of choices for sweet wine and dry. I think it was 5 or 6 wines for 25.00. I did a sweet and dry tasting with my boys and wife on Mother's Day. The wife loved it. They have a nice patio, clean restroom. If you go here don't forget the up and coming 12 Fires next door. If you want a majestic wedding venue, there is nothing better. Through the entire process, the staff at Chateau De Chasse were amazing! Every wedding has it's hiccups and they were the ones that got them to stop. My new wife is over the moon with the help that they provided through the entire process. I went to a friends Birthday Party at this winery that looks like a castle! I love the castle theme and they also were celebrating St. Patrick's day so that made it even more fun ! People wearing kilts and the music was very Irish too. We had a private seating area over looking the hill country, the weather was beautiful. Very nice winery with great views and amazing service!! We arrived at opening time. Around 11am on a Thursday I believe there was only one person working throughout the entire restaurant and she was great, very friendly and on top of it; she ensured that our wines were refilled promptly. I believe the wines are from Italy, France, Spain, and some Texas wines. If you're looking for local wines only this may not be your place but we enjoyed the environment and service. It's a really cool building and decor, the patio is nice. Bathrooms are cool w fun fixtures. Upstairs is neat. The wine is good. They do a dungeon tour which is $35 and I wish I had time to wait for the next one to do it. Might have been a better experience. Staff was oddly helpful. Pours were extremely small in comparison. I wish I could tell you if the wine is good or not. The owner stopped us at the door because we had children. The girls were devastated. They had been looking forward to this "castle" experience for weeks. This would be fine if children weren't allowed. Not so (see photos). "We're too busy today." (There we're maybe 10 people there. See photos.) False advertising for a gimmick place whose marketing naturally would appeal to families with children. A pity. REPLY TO OWNER REPLY: Thank you for your thoughtful clarification. It's confusing that the person who told us we couldn't come in with our children today also said we could do so tomorrow "when it's less busy." However, may I offer a consideration that permitting children into your business has no bearing on patrons drinking to the point of reckless driving. Perhaps you should consider some other service modification if this is the issue you're facing. read more

The views here are spectacular...BUT...the person giving us our wine tasting was not at all knowledgeable. We had pre-reserved our patio spot and was never asked for our name. They just applied our credit based on us saying that we'd made a booking. We split a tasting and got a pizza. I'd love to review the pizza but after waiting over 45 minutes for it, we gave up and left. The live music was loud and hard to hold a conversation over. The wine was meh. There are so many other places to go in Fredericksburg- save your $ and go elsewhere. read more

First time won't be last. Tyler was only server present when we arrived around noon today. Despite being only one there Tyler went out of way to make sure we felt taken care of. The place is beautiful inside and out with awesome views of hillcountry. Castle theme throughout and they even have tower turrets and a dungeon that can be reserved on the weekends. As we went during the week pizza was not available due to lower staffing but Tyler was quick to offer and deliver a full charcuterie board with cheeses meats crackers and grapes. Great snacks. We had reserved a tasting out on the patio. Tyler took time to assess our wine tastes and recommended wines that really met our likings. Also did the truffles add on. Lots of different flavors from Mint to Raspberry to Salted Carmel. Tyler helped pair these chocolate treats with good . Bottles available for purchase. It is a family business and they were very attentive to each person. We got Corbin for our wine tasting and he explained every single wine that we tried to perfection. We even became members! Lovely building but a disappointment. Definitely try the vineyard next to it instead. Limited selection of not that great but overpriced wines from anywhere but Texas. We came to the 290 Texas wine trail for a long weekend in mid-November. We had never been to the 290 Wine Castle, but were attracted by its unique appearance. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that there was so much more to this winery than just the cool exterior! Family owned and operated, we had the pleasure of meeting son Corbin, and mom Monique who made us feel right at home. We had mainly intended to stop in for a glass of wine and enjoy the elevated view of the beautiful Texas Hill Country, but we ended up staying and tasting a very large selection of wine curated by Corbin, who did an amazing job and helped us explore our pallet. We absolutely loved every taste that he put in front of us! Based on the excellent quality and selection of wines and the amazing service we experienced from the family and staff we left as the newest club members of the 290 Wine Castle. Rivafiorita and Dark Knight stole our hearts and where our first purchases to take home. We returned the next night with family members and had another exceptional, personalized experience. Highly impressed and highly recommend this place! There are a lot of great wineries and tasting rooms on the 290 wine trail, but do yourself a favor and make time to stop in at the 290 Wine Castle! read more

Amazing! This place is beautiful. It has amazing views. This place has a sparkling wine tasting!!! Five tastings of sparkling Prosecco or wine. Don't worry they have awesome reds as well. After the wine tasting we enjoyed our pizza with a frozen sangria and a frozen piña colada. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. I wish I took pictures of the wine but I drank them up too soon. If your lucky you'll meet the owner. So nice. Awesome things to come in the future too. Worth the stop!!! read more

This winery is incredible!!! It is a giant castle on a hill, so beautiful! We had a very personal experience a few weeks ago due to social distancing not allowing large crowds. Mike and his wife are the definition of hospitality and are incredibly kind. We tasted some wines, had some cheese, and ate some pizza. Everything was so good! The dungeon was very cool and the back patio was beautiful! I wish the weather was nicer so we could have enjoyed the views as well as the roof top seating. Castle errors here. This place needs polish. I don't mean Poland either. It's just poorly run with little polish or touch. The wine is from Spouts. The place needs some finesse with new ideas and approaches. We asked for plates with our pizza. We got napkins. The restrooms are funny. This place is NOT family friendly. If you have children and you are looking for a place to hang out and enjoy a "date night" without hiring a babysitter....this is NOT the place for you. The owner/manager called my child a distraction...and I understand wanting adults only time, but say that...don't say that kids are a distraction and that's why you don't allow them....however, they do allow dogs because they aren't a distraction...Interesting. And for those who say "well keep your kid under control" let me tell you...
