I'm someone who gets his haircut and beard done weekly, and I spent hours researching barbershops on Google, Yelp, and Instagram. That's how I came across Chaps & Co at 230 Park Avenue, and I couldn't have made a better choice. I noticed this location at 230 Park Avenue didn't have any reviews yet, and I knew I would be the first to leave one--which felt important because others need to know about this gem. I was able to book a 10:00 AM appointment for Thursday and arrived about 15 minutes early. My barber, Huseyn, greeted me right away, and we started chatting as if we'd known each other for years. I showed him photos of my haircuts from my regular barbers in Los Angeles and the Bay Area, along with the different styles I've had over time. Right before 10:00 AM, we walked into the shop--which was super clean, ultra-luxurious, and stocked with top-tier products. When I told Huseyn what I wanted, he looked at me and said, "Don't worry, I got you." From there, we kept talking and getting to know each other, sharing stories about our lives. Never once did I question Huseyn or what he was doing--it honestly felt like he had cut my hair many times before, even though it was our first appointment. About halfway through, Huseyn smiled and said, "Man, you weren't joking--your hair is really thick," which I usually take as a good or bad sign with a new barber. In the past, I've had barbers give up or rush through a cut when they realized how much work thick hair can be, but that wasn't the case here. The entire haircut and beard trim took about an hour and a half, which is standard for me, and Huseyn's process and flow were a perfect 10+. He's very mature for his age and shared how hard he worked to earn his spot at Chaps & Co. From what I saw of his skill and attention to detail, I can confidently say Huseyn is hands down the best--or at the very least one of the best--barbers at this shop. We connected on a deeper level, too; we share the same faith and talked about Christianity and what it has done for our lives. His Instagram handle, @barbergotfaith, couldn't be more fitting after hearing his story. After my cut, I told Huseyn I noticed Chaps & Co at 230 Park Avenue didn't have any reviews yet but had a deep history in barbering, and that I had to leave a review even though I was only in town for a quick trip. I've been fortunate in life to experience comfort and luxury, and I'm so thankful I got matched with Huseyn for this visit. When I met up with my wife afterward, she was blown away--she knows my barbers in LA and NorCal well, and she said, "WOW WOW WOW--whoever cut your hair is right up there with the best." I told her I had no idea who was going to cut me and that I just got incredibly lucky. Whether you're a local looking for a new shop, someone without a regular barber, or visiting New York for work or fun and need a haircut or beard trim, I can confidently say Chaps & Co is your shop, and Huseyn is your barber. Once I walked in, the owner was immediately chatting it up with me, as if we're best buds from back in the day. He walked me over to a "barber" who had just come in and was getting himself set up. After hearing the owner speak to the other barber, who already had a client, I knew I was with a different barber than the one I had initially chosen online. Once we started with the service, I already knew I was in for a short and rough shave. The hot towels were great, but that's the only positive. The lather was minimal, the shave was with short, choppy, and dry. I was hoping it would be over quick, but then he pulled out the electric trimmers.... And started cleaning up the lowest part of my neck.... And slicing my neck.... And irritating my neck.... I have never felt stinging like that EVER for a straight razor shave. Unfortunately, the next few days, I had "hesitation marks" on my neck as if I had tried taking my own life without following through. FML! Maybe the other barbers are better, but I'll never find out.

Specifically, Pablo Laguna who is, for lack of a better word, a true artist. I've had beard trims where I live in DC as well as in London when I visit there and not only is Pablo the least expensive, he's also the absolute best! I've even scheduled trips up to NYC around Pablo's availability to take a whack at my raggedy whiskers. It's truly like a makeover when Pablo is done! A true artisan with facial hair!

When I go to get my haircut, I don't want to hear about politics, and I don't want to hear about how many watches the owner can buy himself with my money. Regardless of where you lie on the political spectrum, It's extremely unprofessional, and it made me very tense. I've gone back several times and received haircuts from several barbers/stylists/hairdressers, and I always leave feeling mildly assaulted. Professionalism is basically the only thing I care about in these types of businesses, and if they can't provide a safe and relaxing atmosphere, then I don't want to sit in their chair for an hour while they handle sharp objects around my head. That being said, I also find that they do not know how to cut my hair type, and when I tell them what has worked for me at other barbers, they ignore it saying "if I take too much off there then it won't do what you want." And then I have to explain to them that it will do exactly what I want since it has been proven in the past to behave the way I'm telling them it will if they make the adjustments I'm describing. They still ignore it, and then I go home and shower and my hair immediately behaves in the way I don't want. I end up having to trim it myself. 0/10 do not recommend. UPDATE May 14, 2026: The owner has responded to my initial review in a way which exactly proves my point. In my review, I mentioned that I had a bad experience at this establishment and did not feel safe due to the offensive conversation I overheard from the owner himself with his own clients as well as some other barbers. His response is to straight up gaslight me and say that this never happened, instead of apologizing for my bad experience and explaining how it will not happen again. Classic.
