Just decided to try something close to the workplace, and in a very happening spot for East side midtown dining. The place is brand new, about six months old, completely renovated, everything is clean, a rare and nice thing in New York City. The barbers are really polite, easy to talk to and easy going. My barber didn't freak out when I couldn't tip, which is also a great thing. P.S. always tip your barbers, they're great people. Okay so let me tell you why I love this place: 1- the place is brand new and completely fresh and redone. There are only four chairs, but it's perfectly laid out. 2- the two stylists are so great and follow what you tell them. You can tell they've been cutting hair for a long time and know exactly what they're doing. 3- the tools! Idk what it is but the tools feel so smooth on your head when they are cutting the sides. This is my new favorite barber shop. Arthur (A2, as he was known at the old shop) one of the barbers from Premium a block away started his own shop, so it's the same great service and the same barbers you would get there, but without the wait. This is a great shop and the best haircut I've ever had and I'm in my late 50's and been to plenty of barbers. I love the chairs here. Apparently Arthur bought a bunch of old chairs from the shop he worked at when he started out and had them refurbished. The place really feels like a classic old shop, and you'll get the same treatment as you would expect from such a place, from a razor finish to a hot towel. read more

I am reluctant to write a review because this barbershop is brand new and relatively unknown, which means a short-to-no wait for me. Arthur spends his time making sure the cut looks perfect and to your liking. In the past I have showed him a pic of what I want, a brief description, and he is spot on every time. I came to Premium Barber's original shop at 622 3rd when I first moved to the city three years ago and have gone back to Arthur every time. For the price of $23 (In NYC are you kidding!?) you're going to get an awesome cut every time. Arthur is also the type of barber who won't pry you for an awkward conversation. Many, many times I have sat through a silent cut and sometimes that's just what I want, but he will happily engage in convo if that's more your style. Fantastic barbershop. Arthur and the rest of the hair-stylists at this shop are careful, attentive, highly professional, and most importantly, skilled. It is a simple thing to cut someone's hair shorter, but Arthur and his staff take the extra time and put in the extra effort to make their customers look their absolute best. I have lived in Manhattan for 4 years and this is the first shop I have found which will put in this level of care to give a fantastic cut and experience. Most places nearby will charge you almost the same price for a rushed, sloppy, generic cut which will leave you looking terrible. Arthur talked with me about how I wanted to look, and then put his years of expertise to work in giving me a custom, fantastic cut which is perfect for me. He gives options which no one at inferior nearby shops will even offer (such as a natural back hairline as opposed to a hard line). In spots where I had thought I knew what I wanted, Arthur gave me more and better options, and improved my look considerably as a result. This is now my favorite barber in NYC. I went to Arthur when he was at the other Premium Barber Shop nearby and followed him to this new location when it recently opened. I've always gotten great haircuts from him. Whereas some barbers can get lazy and start to cut corners after you have been going to them for a while, Arthur has always delivered the highest quality work - and exactly what I wanted every time. He has a close eye for detail and is willing to take extra time to do exactly what you want. This shop is brand new and extremely clean, and because it's newer, the line tends to be shorter than at other Premium locations (although that might not last long - this place seems to get busier every week).
