The place smelled like a bunch of old clothing. They also had to take my purse at the front or they wouldn't let us in? The place is also way too crammed. The prices here are outrageous too!! The first time I went there the workers were very helpful and polite. Good customer service. I went there a few days after to sell my daughter's clothes. They asked my for ID and everything and it was before their cut off time for accepting sellers merchandise. Then all of a sudden the girl at the register said they can't take my stuff anymore because their manager is leaving and he's the only one that can write a check if it's more than $300. I asked them if they can at lease look at the clothes and not my lux bags. Cause we came from far away and they clearly seen me struggling carrying everything in. But the girl wouldn't still declined to finish checking me in. They even checked in people after me! Like wth! I came the very next day, this time the manager was just so rude. No customer service. He basically was rude and said "NO" out loud to a question the worker asked for me, not knowing I was right next to him. This generation has no manners, no customer service, they act like they are above everyone, and just so rude! Also remember the employee that told me the manager has to write a check if it's more than $300, we'll they end up giving me cash!! What a waste of time coming back the next day with them giving me cash and not a check. They could of still taken me in the day before! And... They were trying to offer me $1 for name brand jeans! The buyers here are hit or miss. There are two nice guys and one really rude one. I had a prior review here citing poor service which got removed, I think the review was too specific regarding appearance. Overall, I prioritized bringing my vintage and archival pieces to this location because two sellers there were super knowledgable. I am not sure if those sellers still work there, because there is one seller who helped me twice, barely helped me though. Underpriced a 2009 Balenciaga City Bag, which I kept and sold to TheRealReal for $400 more than the price he quoted me. When I called to cite complaint to the store manager, he was receptive. But the guy who was rude answered the phone, and said he was a manager. When I realized it was him I said, "Hi, I think you're actually the one who helped me and I wanted to make a complaint about you, so I will need to speak to ANOTHER manager." When he passed the phone over, he made personal remarks about me as he gave the phone to the other manager. The store manager apologized profusely, and said he would retrain him, but I am not going to this location to see if that happens. Was happy that the customer service from the other manager was better, admitted fault and moved to make correction. If you get lucky with your seller, it's great- I've sold many pieces to this location, so I am okay with leaving it where it's at, and moving on. Easily my worst secondhand experience. Staff knows a minimal amount about vintage (which shows by their selection) and is extremely rude. I brought in 3 vintage tees and a designer tee that had been repaired and they proceeded to tell me one of the items I brought in was fake because it was "worth like $500" and did not care to explain or listen, but still tried to buy my pieces anyway for $17. They looked for a split second before making their decision, even though I've had these items authenticated on numerous occasions. This store was one I had recently discovered and decided to check them out one day while waiting for my passport application appointment. Huge mistake I barely got inside of the door before an employee rushed over and demanded that I check my bag. Which under other circumstances I would understand but I literally walked up to the store w/o my mask on since I was outside then was barely within the confines of the entity before I was profiled. Usually it takes at least a few minutes but 2ND Street wastes no time. I was dressed in what I hope was decent clothing since I had to get my picture taken but what can you do right? San Francisco is supposed to be a more "progressive city" but it has its own serious flaws like everywhere else. There are a lot of other places to find used designer goods I personally will not return . Overall this place is not the best place to go if you're of African decent. Online shopping is unfortunately still the best route to take as it takes profiling out of the equation. If not there are a lot of other stores who value not only your business but will treat you in a respectful manner. I write these reviews based on my experience so that others will not have to face the same obstacles that I have. But always do your own research! read more

This place is great! It's pretty rare to find a thrift store with the really interesting men's brands up front (and to be honest, the men's stuff is way more interesting in streetwear and it's what women buy anyway since women's streetwear is garbage). What's weird is that the buyers have extremely good taste, so that the Calvin Klein, Zara, etc stuff gets priced $5 but the really interesting thrift stuff from the 1970's gets bumped up to $15, which is actually quite a bargain. I would say that stock is more sophisticated than what most thrift shoppers in the USA are accustomed to, but then again Haight street has been getting really crazy good since the pandemic for some reason. I've bought and sold used clothing for 15 years and found that 2nd street strikes a balance between high end luxury thrift and your local Goodwill. The store is packed tight with designer brands, neatly organized by genre/style/fabric. They even have sections dedicated to no-name/dead brands that are on trend at great prices. I've bought great jackets for 20-30 bucks that I still use today. However, I'd avoid this place as a seller. If it's a hyped item, they'll offer a better price than crossroads or Buffalo exchange. But if it's NOT, (and most times it's not) they'll give you very little. After reviewing my haul, they separated it into different piles with lowball prices ($1 ea, $5 ea , $10 and higher ticket items). I was clearing closet so no biggie, but then I noticed a pile of clothes of mine they didn't disclose. I asked and they said "oh, that's the donation pile". What? I came here to sell, not to donate my clothes for you to sell. I promptly asked for those clothes back and swore off ever selling to them again. TLDR; Pros: Great inventory, good for a lot of people of different budgets. Dig and you'll find a diamond in the dust. Lower standard for condition/wear (as a seller) Cons: selling practice is not transparent, they'll seriously lowball you for middle/low tier items, lower standard for condition/wear (as a buyer) read more

People always tripping on yelp! The staff is super helpful, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. Nobody is getting judged here from what other comments say. It's crazy to even think that when they all have different styles themselves. I have bought and sold here and everything was great! You will always get more if you list it yourself so don't trip when you get a lower price here. It's a business everyone trying to get a cut. Living in the Panhandle, I try to check out new Haight St thrift stores as they open. Visited 2nd STREET for the first time last week and I was pleasantly surprised! Their clothing selection was impressive and diverse and prices were competitive with other SF thrift stores. Their selection is less "cultivated" than smaller thrift stores. I personally love the hunt for hidden gems, but I can see their store feeling overwhelming or haphazardly organized for less seasoned thrifters. I'd describe it as a combination of Wasteland and Buffalo Exchange with 70% 2010's mall brands like Anthro and Banana Republic, 20% luxury brands like Comme de Garcons and Alexander Wang, and 10% vintage. Hopefully they expand their vintage selection in the future. I'll deff be back when I have more time to shop! read more
