HiveXO is a tiny little boutique on an island in a parking lot near Salt Creek Beach in Southern Orange County. They sell small items and jewelry and things like that. They also sell vegan and dairy free ice cream sandwiches and that is what this review will focus on. It is very hard to find a gluten-free cookie sandwich. Let's be real, the cookies don't usually hold up! The good is that the sandwiches are very large and appropriately cookie sandwich sized and that they have multiple flavors on any given day. You cannot guarantee that your flavor will be there as the sandwiches are prepackaged and sold according to the batch they have made for that day. Fresh, but not versatile. For my vegan and gluten-free people, these are great because you will stay healthy and have a sweet treat. Downside is sometimes products in this vegan gluten-free category can have a bit of an aftertaste, and even though my strawberry cookie sandwich was tasty, I did leave a bit of a film and a bit of an aftertaste. Overall, I, appreciate what this business is doing and maybe once a summer will grab a sandwich. read more

We were in south county for a tennis match and lucked out going to this spot for a sweet treat. It's tough to find gluten free non dairy desserts, so I checked out Yelp to find this GEM! We were expecting more of a typical ice cream shop and were confused by the location and size, but you know what, size doesn't matter. We ordered two ice cream sandwiches (thank you to a reviewer that said she wished she ordered her own). I had lemon which was the perfect balance of sweet and tart and left my tummy with blissful satisfaction. My husband had the chocolate peanut butter and he didn't speak for the entire 10 minutes devouring every last bite and then I couldn't stop him from speaking raving about what he had just eaten. We can't wait to come back and will happily make the drive for this deliciousness. read more

Staff: The lady was so very nice. My favorite thing about my visit is the payment kiosk didn't have the VERY frustrating guilt tip question. The device merely asked for payment which made me so very happy. Quality/Quantity: They had a bunch of clothes, jewelry, and various ice cream options. The ice cream sandwiches were a high quality with organic ingredients which again made me so happy. These babies were huge and packed with delicious ice cream inside of a delicious cookie. Value: Not bad at all. Overall: I really enjoyed the spot. Great ambiance, plenty of parking, a few tables to sit at, and good service. This place is awesome and loved the cookie sandwiches.. worth every penny.. u pay for good clean ingredients.. They are huge in size but so light and hit the spot for sweet treat. We had peanut butter chocolate and strawberry cream which had fresh strawberries rolled on the side.. love that it was gluten and dairy free . The owner was awesome and so sweet and loved talking about the monarchs and she and my son we going over Japanese words together .. lol.. such a sweet spot to find and such great hospitality. Very cute little kiosk that sells unique goods and yummy popsicles! We really loved the unique flavours and the owner was so nice. We tried root beer, lavender lemonade, vanilla chai and raspberry plum basil for the popsicle flavours. I appreciated that they had both dairy and non-dairy options and there were plenty of varieties of both. What a gem! Great non-dairy and gluten-free ice cream sandwiches! I say this as a non-gf person, I genuinely enjoyed their peanut butter chocolate chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich, as well as their strawberry shortcake ice cream sandwich. Have had alot of non-dairy "artisan" ice creams around the Southland and these are some of the best. Cookies not overly sweet and seem to be designed to do their job, holding the ice cream in without getting mushy, but also taste good on their own. They also have popsicles, but we did not try them this time. Would definitely recommend and we will definitely be back! read more

The Hive gives 50% proceeds of sales to my child's school on Mondays so I decided to check them out. It's a small shop near Pain du Monde at the corner of PCH and Niguel. It's a little easy to miss but there is parking in front of it. The popsicles are all natural. We tried the strawberries and cream and cookies and cream. The strawberries one was not as flavorful but not like it was bad either. When I tasted the cookies and cream the flavor popped out! They had many unique flavors to try like Thai tea! Yummy! Fun cute little stand to visit if you're just starting your day or ending a fun one outdoors. Sister and I wanted to leave the hotel and go on a little walk so I found this place on Yelp and I'm glad we did. We only went for the ice cream sandwiches, but she sells a bunch of cute accessories and trinkets. In general the shopping plaza this stand is in is worth exploring at least once in the area. Will definitely try it again on our next visit. We got the salted caramel and really enjoyed it. It being dairy free was a nice touch. read more

A hidden gem a short walk away from Salt Creek Beach Park at the Ritz Carlton! Got the Daily Specials: Snickerdoodle ice cream sandwich with vanilla ice cream and Oatmeal cookie sandwich with vanilla ice cream and chocolate chips. Both were delicious and made with good ingredients listed on the packaging. Our only complaint was that the oatmeal cookie was a little bit tougher/ harder to bite than the snickerdoodle, which was super soft. We liked the fact that the sandwich was premade and frozen ready to eat. The sandwich kept its integrity and avoided issues that build-your-own ice cream sandwich places usually have, like ice cream melting too quickly or exploding out the other end after taking a bite. I've tried quite a few vegan dessert places and let me just say they usually fall flat in some regard. Ice cream not creamy enough, cookie not chewy or too crunchy, etc but this place I swear it is as good as the best of them. I was surprised. I'm not vegan and I have regular cookies and ice cream all the time and I can safely say I could switch to this with no issues. The lavender and the lemon in that cookie were not just hints of that flavor they went all in and it was fantastic. They complemented the whole combination between the creamy cold vanilla (made with coconut I believe) so amazingly. I usually review more on Google but I had to throw one here on Yelp for this place it is a must try. So many good flavors we are definitely coming back for more and bringing our friends. read more

You can get the ice by itself or together with the custard. I would recommend trying the ice flavors you would want then getting it with custard, it really elevates the ice. The person helping us was so friendly! Not a lot of shade or tables to enjoy this but luckily this was during the evening on a cool night. I imagine it wouldn't be easy to enjoy this on a hot day. Otherwise, would come back to this location!

On a side note and not affecting this rating: We ate at the cafe side once and it was good. But we sat outside and had a bad experience unrelated to the cafe. Someone with their huge hairy dog was just outside the cafe and rubbing their long hair dog getting it into the air and the wind was blowing it all over our food and drinks and also in the nearby tables. Definitely killed the appetite. This is not affecting the rating. Rating is based solely on the cakes.

The cookies are presented in their own box and are large. They are soft cookies but ever-so-slightly crisp on the outside with soft fillings. The chocolate chip cookie had a filling that was essentially chocolate chip cookie dough. It was incredibly delicious and I would definitely get this one again. The cookies & cream had what tasted like Oreo frosting inside and was very good. It was a bit messier as it has crumbles on top and also the weight of the filling caused the soft cookie to fall apart, which one must be conscious of when eating these cookies. It's actually easier to eat when it's in a few pieces. Being a cookie-lover, I find what they have here to be better than what you get at other well-known cookie stores.

After riding our beach cruisers up the long steep hill from Salt Creek beach we couldn't wait to share an ice cream sandwich at The Hive. Laura was a delight to talk to as we rested in her bar chairs and sunk our teeth into the most delicious (and healthy) ice cream sandwich with coconut milk, chocolate ice cream between two chocolate chip, oatmeal and peanut butter, gluten-free cookies! Also, we tried the root beer float popsicle - mmmhmmh and bought a couple gift items for friends. I can't believe so many cool gift items are in such a cute, little, vine covered cottage! Such a tastefully curated shop full of high quality handmade local artisan goods (jewelry, clothing, accessories) and healthy snacks drinks and treats (amazing cold pressed juice and dangerously delicious ice cream sandwiches and Popsicles.
