three years later and it looks like time for an update but not much has changed except now everybody I know calls it "Three Reyes" because I didn't know it was in spanish until after I'd read 'three' instead of 'tres' and got to 'Reyes' which is kind of spanish but also the family name so now that's just what it is... still get a warm greeting walking in with seating options from one to too many, still have fabulous food and beverages at budget friendly prices with a full service bar plus there's usually coffee on throughout the day. minor changes / updates on the menu but nothing earth shattering; single page lunch menu makes my life easier and there's still plenty of options to accompany the rice AND beans; thoroughly enjoyed the pork in green chile sauce today! totally bueno!! read more

Coming from California, I've been disappointed with the Mexican restaurants I've sampled so far but Tres Reyes is now my favorite. In the other Mexican restaurants, the food tasted as if it had been frozen and reheated. Not 3 Reyes. It was the closest thing to Mexican home cooking that I would find in San Diego. I had the Stuffed Poblano Chile with Ranchero sauce which was delicious. My friends Chicken Enchiladas Verdes was also very tasty. The decor and atmosphere inside was very nice and the service was fast and friendly. Will definitely be back! read more

I went in on a Friday night close to closing. Only a few people in there. The server was sooooooo sweet I wish I could've gotten her name. I got an order of birria tacos to go. It was Taco Tuesday so of course we wanted to find some local tacos. I found 3 Reyes on Yelp (of course lol) and I'm soooo happy I did. First of all the customer service was AMAZING!! Our server was so sweet and helpful. The food was great and the drinks were tasty. Don't be discouraged at the size or look of this spot. It's truly A1 and we will return. so the times that I have gone to this restaurant have been ab ridiculous they always look over me when I'm there the first time it happened I thought I was being paranoid but no the either look over me or tell the customer behind me to order first because I don't matte. Food was spectacular, the portions were very generous and the staff was exceptionally phenomenal, very attentive and very kind. The churros were to die for, a must have if you ever stop here. Stopped in on a road trip for dinner. Really nice pleasant atmosphere, the staff was super nice and we were greeted immediately. Food was delicious, we got the chefs special and chicken chimichanga. Shrimp in the special was cooked perfectly. Their refried beans are some of the best I've had. The food was just great. probably the best refried beans I've ever had from a restaurant. the portions were very generous. the beef burrito was enough for 2 people. if you like a decent kick, the extra hot sauce is very good. for dessert we got the Jango which is fried cheesecake. All I can say to that is YUM! The staff w was relaxed and friendly. If we lived in the area, we would definitely be eating there regularly but we were just passing through. Yet another price increase so far in the last year I have seen a near 20% price increase on a dish which is somewhat justifiable given todays world, however they also decided to start charging extra for salsa as well which is absolutely ridiculous.
