French toast is amazing. It had mascapone, apple, bananas and strawberry on top of challah bread. We also had the grilled vegetable sandwich on foccacia and kids chocolate chip pancakes n cheeseburger. I was pretty impressed that for $5 the kids burger was really good. The patty was fresh ground not frozen beef and it came with a stack of fresh lettuce n tomato. This is a must visit. read more

3 Squares has good food but be prepared to sacrifice some of your valuable time for it. I've spent over a half hour waiting for one sandwich! Maybe that's a good sign though. Some other observations, it's small and loud. But again that just shows how busy it is and a busy restaurant is probably a good restaurant. read more

My wife and I found 3 Squares while driving back from visiting friends in the Burlington area. We were looking for a quick, quality place to grab some lunch before making the 5+ hour drive back down to Long Island. One word Jackpot! The food here was amazing. I ordered a pulled pork burrito covered in a deliciously spicy Mole sauce and a seasoned sour cream. My wife ordered there Muffuletta. If you're in the area I definitely recommend stopping here. We really enjoyed it here. I had the special vegetarian tacos. They were very good. My husband and 15 year old son had the pulled pork burritos with mole sauce. They loved them. My husband thought the mole sauce was exceptional. My 18 year old son had the tuna melt with avocado and tomato. He thought it was great. I didn't have any cane sugar soda but everyone else did and liked them a lot. We sat outside and although sometimes it was a bit noisy with the trucks going by we all thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. read more

Favorite restaurant in Vermont, by far. The kitchen and staff produce so much food in a day, it is actually pretty crazy. Simple ideas, but done well and with fresh and organic ingredients. The fact that people of all backgrounds and occupations eat here on a regular basis says a lot about it. Definitely the best French toast in the state, in addition to a pesto and ham scrambled eggs dish that makes me happy every time. Sandwiches are wonderful, and come with great side salads. If you design your own, make sure to get the roasted red peppers, they go really well with turkey and bean sprouts! Also, house-made garlic mayo. Enough said. read more

My husband and I were married on September 7, 2013. Our wedding was catered by 3 Squares Cafe in Vergennes, VT. The Chef/owner Matt Birong, and his wife Danelle worked closely with us to make sure that every detail of the food was perfect. They modified the menu to fit exactly what we wanted and everyone at the wedding raved about the food. I have some family members with various food allergies, and they made special meals to accommodate these guests. The crew took care of all set up and breakdown at the event and all of the leftover food was packaged for us to take home. I cannot say enough good things about this lovely cafe. In addition to wonderful food served in the cafe, they are also an incredible catering service. They catered our daughter's wedding for 175 this past weekend, and they went above and beyond. The job was a challenge, they had no kitchen to work with and had to bring in everything. They rose to the occasion, and provided us with fabulous food. From the first passed starter, to the last item on the beautiful buffet, everything was delicious. I don't ever remember better food at a wedding (which is not an easy task). Our friends are all still raving about it! Do not hesitate to use these great folks for any event- big or small. read more

This place was what I had heard about the last time I visited which was a big improvement over my experience here a couple of years ago. The green salad was fresh and delicious and the grilled sandwich was hot and yummy this time! Timetable is still a little on the slow side but that's not necessarily a bad thing and hey, this is Vermont after all...the staff is friendly but this is also a good place to sit and talk without a waiter popping over too frequently (and that for me is a plus). read more

I had brunch at this place once and cannot wait to go back. I would frequent this homey cafe if I lived closer to Vergennes. I had eggs benedict and coffee and the price was great, even a little lower considering how much they gave me.This wasn't your typical meal cooked on a greasy, over-used griddle in a run-down, old-town diner. It was one of those meals that made you feel like you were on a farm that your family has owned for 4 generations and that it was home-cooked and made just the way you like it. The interior of the cafe is also likened to that of a farm house with Vermont farm tables and benches. The air isn't stale but smells like bread baking in the oven and fresh coffee. The staff is down-to-earth and makes you feel more like you're guests at their own house rather than customers they've never met before. All in all, this is a great place to simply chill out with friends on a Sunday afternoon and gorge yourself with good food. read more

Great spot! I enjoyed a tasty pulled pork burrito with excellent mole. My husband had a fantastic blt special with caramelized onions and some delightful cream of mushroom soup. Loved how fresh everything tasted and the use lots of local ingredients. We'll be back next time we are in the area, hopefully for breakfast which is served until 3pm! I have been coming here for many years, through at least a couple of iterations. And until the other coffee shop opened down the road, this was the place I made a point to come for coffee and a snack. Now that the other place opened, I still come here, since the other place is almost never actually open! Anyway, 3 Squares Cafe has much more than just coffee and I'm sure most people come here for the food. I've only had drip coffee here, but it's always really good (used to be VT Coffee Co., can't remember if it still is). I've had my fill of their sandwiches, all of which are pretty good and change regularly. The variety of their sandwiches is a real plus. What I really come for are the pastries, the coffee just helps wash them down. They have a pretty wide selection of baked goods in the morning, but they go through them pretty quickly. Also, it can take a while to make your order and then have it filled when there are more than 3 people in front of you, which there often is, but it's all good. This really seems to be the morning/lunch stop for people passing through Vergennes, so it's often pretty full. read more

We happened on this restaurant on the way from Essex Junction to the Albany Airport. What a pleasant surprise!! The menu was very interesting. We had the BLT and the turkey salad sandwich. Both were excellent! The staff was very friendly and helpful. Several customers engaged us in conversation and made travel recommendations. 3 Squares is good for lunch and breakfast. I've dined here several times over two years. They take their time so it's best you plan for an hour. I love their egg panino for breakfast, and I recommend the sipping chocolate with espresso (Appropriately named the Mayan Speed Ball). Their breads are spectacular! Vergennes is becoming my stop for CARBS! For lunch you can't go wrong, but the burger is, sadly, over priced. I get a lot of slack for this with friends and colleagues and this is, of course, just my opinion but I generally hate $12 burgers. It gives me the same feeling when paying $4 for a bottle of water at six flags. Yes, I've had their 8oz burger, it's good, and Id pay $9 tops and probably frequent this selection more often if it were priced right. (For $5 you can get the 4oz kids burger which will hit the spot for me just fine) The food is certainly fresh and I love the local sources (even the beef). If you enjoy gorgeous veggies, this is the place for you. 3 Squares has a wonderful selection of drinks and I love a glass of wine at lunch from time to time - so all in all 3 squares has something for everybody and it's definitely worth a stop for a long leisurely lunch. read more

This place took me by surprise! Driving through to Burlington on our day off needed a bite and hoping for a drink. Honestly walking in we just thought "oh a cute cafe" with no high expectation. The women at the counter was so friendly and helpful! The food came out soooo fast! I can not say enough how delicious the food was! My boyfriend and I both just mind blown! I got the eggs Benedict special. And he got the French toast on the menu. Seriously to date the BEST food I have had in VT! Give this place a chance. The nay sayers don't have a clue. read more

Everything is good, I'd much rather eat at a place like this with fewer options all done well than a huge and questionable menu. Good mix of breakfast food, salads and sandwiches. Food including all vegetables is fresh and made to order, but fast. Tomato/broccoli rabe panini & tuna melt were excellent. My 14 yo son liked his pancakes w berries & granola cooked in. I liked that you can design your own breakfast scramble with items such as chorizo, fresh vegetables, etc -- many toppings to choose from. Portions are a little large for us but just right for most Americans! Desserts are also delicious and made on premises -- I nearly collided w a baker carrying out a tray of delicious looking coconut macaroons. Had been trying to go to vergennes laundry but it was closed 1pm on a Sunday; based on some troublesome reviews & the excellent food at 3 square I'd say skip the laundry and head to this place. read more
