We stopped in while waiting for the ferry, checking out places to visit during our weekend in town. A woman (I believe the owner) was outside smoking and unloading a vehicle and commented that we didn't buy anything. I responded that we were just looking around but needed to catch the ferry. She didn't say anything until we were down the street a little bit towards the ferry, when she started yelling at us about not buying anything. We just kept walking to get to the ferry on time and ignored her. But it was so ridiculous and unnecessarily rude, we of course didn't stop back in. Every other place we visited on the trip was amazing and had great service. I suggest avoiding this one. read more

Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Stopped in to grab my family of three sandwiches before taking the ferry ride. While ordering the woman YELLED at me to "hurry up and order", I ordered a English muffin (was never told they did not have this item) but was again was yelled at exclaiming "We don't have English muffins today, I already said that!". In addition to the English muffins we had planned to purchase muffins for our drive and a few other breakfast sandwiches. I decided to cancel the items because of how uncomfortable the woman made me feel. As I was walking out of the building she loudly screamed "F***!!". Pretty much one of the only food spots in town, but luckily it's a solid option. Got a bagel breakfast sandwich that was tasty and filling and a hot chai latte that was quite good - not too sweet like they can sometimes be. Service was friendly. I'd visit again if in the area. read more

Super solid spot for coffee and snacks right next to the ferry across Lake Champlain. My niece and I, figuring we has PLENTY of time to make the 11:00 ferry, hopped out and headed over to the Pink Pig for provisions We ordered; an excellent latte, two cups of solid dark roast coffee, a piece of banana bread (generous) and a breakfast sandwich (was that hot honey drizzled on the Canadian bacon??). We headed right back to the terminal at 10:45, just to find...the ferry was GONE! Pro tip: No matter what time the ferry is scheduled to leave, once it is full and boarded it will leave! read more

No joke, I had the best ham and cheese panini here! I never thought to put mustard on my grilled cheese before and it was delish! Great bread, fresh ham not thinly sliced deli ham, but real sliced ham and gooey cheese! I loved it so much I tried to get another on the return ferry the next day, but sadly they closed minutes before our ferry landed. We will be back because I really wanted to try their fresh tomatoes soup also. Oh the owner gave me a piece of her squash bread, wow, so good and went perfectly with the cappuccino!! We didn't end up eating here because the employee working the counter was completely unprofessional and inappropriate. She was unpleasant from the beginning, snarky, and belligerent, throwing food/items, in front of my children. We felt completely uncomfortable from the moment we walked into the door. Wanted to try this place for breakfast one morning as never have been there before. We walked in to the small place and was not greeted at all. There were two women working behind the counter who did not say anything. We stood there for a minute trying to find the menu or at least some semblance of where we needed to go to order. We ordered just a coffee, which is a pour/make yourself bar. Not enough regular coffee to fill a cup and no one offered or made a notion that they would make more. The menu that we finally saw, a list of three items on the counter with no substitutions allowed, left a lot to be desired. As we were leaving, a supposed local walked in and was greeted as if she was the Queen of Sheba. Definitely a local establishment designed for locals. We will not be returning due to the downright rudeness towards non-locals and lackluster offerings. read more

Wow wow wow! The hospitality and warmness of Debbie, the owner, was so needed. We had 7 adults & 2 kids that had been driving all day and we were STARVING. There is literally nothing in the area and what little options there are, were closed due to the season. I saw the good Yelp reviews and suggested we go here. We drove by at 3:15 & the lights appeared off but Yelp said open until 5. I figured I would see if the door was open & test my luck. Well to my delight, Debbie exclaimed she will not let anyone go hungry and to please have my family come in to eat. She'd be happy to make us whatever we wanted. We ordered a ton of food. Everything (grilled cheese, turkey wrap, ham panini, quiche) was excellent. It's simple food but very tasty. As we were leaving, Debbie handed us a box of brownies and told us to enjoy our time here in Essex. We all were so thankful for her. She was so sweet and warm. You could tell she had sass in her but only uses it when needed ;) She has a antiques / clothing boutique store connected the cafe. It has the cutest stuff. I went here this afternoon looking for a quick coffee, expecting normal prices and a nice atmosphere. While the adjacent shop and outside patio were charming and sweet, the overall experience was wildly disappointing. I ordered two drinks--an iced chai latte and an iced coffee. The total came up to just under ten dollars (expensive, but I didn't mind). The drinks, when finished, came in red solo plastic cups. There were no lids, and the cups were practically filled with ice. The employee was rude and distracted, and the inside of the cafe was in disarray. While the coffee was okay, I do not recommend this cafe. read more

Phoned and was promised replacements to be mailed. 6 follow up calls and 1 email later I have been lied to over and over that they were in the mail! 3 mos and still nothing. Fantastic cafe. We were traveling with a little baby and this place happened to be on the way to the ferry to Burlington. Not only the food and coffee are top notch (in fact the best we experienced in our entire trip!), but the owner is a very nice woman who gave us some background about the town of Essex. Highly recommended! We tried the drip coffee and the quiche which were as I mentioned simply fantastic (see photo attached). Definitely, take a stroll along the waterfront of Essex if the weather permits - there is a nice park overlooking the water 300 meters away. read more

We were staying at the Essex Inn and would have breakfast daily at the Pink Pig. The egg breakfast sandwiches cooked up fresh to order were delicious! It is a small menu but everything is excellent! The owner Debbie is a lot of fun, friendly and would help us plan our daily adventures while visiting the area. Her husband is a great baker offering homemade blueberry muffins, cookies, etc. They have a pretty gift store attached next door offering nice things reasonably price. The Pink Pig is a welcome gem in this small neighborhood. We would highly recommend for a quick breakfast with indoor or outdoor seating or just a coffee/cappuccino to go. read more

How have I not reviewed this! It is GREAT!!! A delightful find in Essex. Close to the ferry, overlooking the water with a nice view of the Green Mountains. Fabulous, freshly brewed coffee. All the fancy coffee drinks if you want. Housemade goodies. Great breakfast sandwich options made before your eyes, while you sip on your coffee and chat with the other patrons. My family and I just vacationed on Lake Champlain for a week and had an outstanding vacation. Multiple members visited the Pig Cafe and were treated as if they were bothersome to whomever the woman was working there. We love quaint coffee shops and couldn't wait to visit this cafe but after hearing how rude the shop employee was to different members at different times, no one else wanted to spend any money there. As the only place that's open on a Sunday, me and two friends popped in for some breakfast sandwiches. The menu looked great, but when trying to order the service wasn't exactly helpful or friendly. We ordered quickly feeling uncomfortable and settled up, but when we finally got our food it was like they decided to make us whatever they wanted and not what we ordered. We stopped in for some coffee and a bite to eat while staying in nearby Westport for the weekend and are so glad we did! We split a sandwich, a bowl of chili, and a latte and enjoyed all of it--almost as much as the owners themselves. I paid with a card not realizing I wouldn't be able to leave a tip and they didn't even blink, simply sent us on our way with a smile and a heartfelt goodbye. Stopped here for a quick couple of sandwiches at the suggestion of our local host James. The wife got a turkey wrap and I got a ham and cheese panini. Owner took our orders then asked us to have a seat outside and she'll bring them out. A few minutes later our sandwiches arrived and she stayed for a few minutes to chat about the area, motorcycles, etc. She made us feel welcome in her small close knit community. We went here for breakfast Labor Day weekend because of the wonderful reviews. Our experience was very different. They couldn't handle multiple orders - they ran out of eggs, bagels and tomatoes, which is not a problem, but they were rude to their customers - literally rolling their eyes when we asked for substitutions for the things they ran out of, and not wanting to walk back in to the restaurant from our outside table to get the tomatoes that were missing from the sandwich "because we're kind of busy right now." It's quaint, and we clearly hit them on a bad day, but the food was not outstanding and the customer service was unacceptable. The barista was great and was doing his best to get the coffee orders out right. read more

We noticed this place the night before while wandering the town. (Was staying on a boat at the marina.) Decided to try it for breakfast. Blueberry muffin was _delicious_!! Kids had apple fritters, which they loved. Breakfast wraps were great. Owner was super friendly, service was great. I highly recommend it. Only downside was, for me, the coffee was a little on the weak side. That said, I like my coffee strong so for most it would probably be fine. I will definitely go back. read more

Delicious fresh breakfast was a treat after eating cold cuts on the boat for 2 days. We docked at the marina and enjoyed a stroll through this sweet town before heading to the Pink Pig for breakfast. We ordered the scrambled eggs on fresh greens. Owner Debbie is down to earth and friendly, but occasionally a tiny bit prickly. Don't let that stop you, though. She was training a cook and counter person when we arrived so a couple glitches in our service (one dish came out 10 minutes after the other) but we enjoyed the outdoor eating area and chatting with Deb. This place is da bomb. Owners Debbie and Fred work long hours year-round to make sure travelers as well as residents have a friendly place to pop in for something tasty any time of the year.
