There was definitely something for everyone from pancakes, eggs to tacos, salads and everything in between. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. My wife and I stopped into 3 squares on our way through Vergennes. We were traveling and wanted a wholesome meal to tide us over until we got home. We arrived hungry and were hoping to grab a quick meal to go and get back on the road, but the place was jam packed. We were a little worried that our food would take a long time, but we were greeted with a smile and our order was taken within a few short minutes. We waited outside for a short time, and then I headed back in to check on the progress. The staff was humming on all cylinders and getting food out quickly. As a former restaurant employee, it was pretty cool to see everyone doing their part to keep things moving. Our order came up, and we were back on the road. We ordered a Turkey/bacon panini with dressed greens and were not disappointed! Their homemade focaccia bread is to die for, and the fresh roasted turkey (yes actual turkey, not deli meat) rocked!! I went to high school with the owner so I'm biased. BUT, I hadn't been there in a while and was starving today and ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with bacon and garlic mayo, other yummy additions as well. WOW. It was delicious. The atmosphere is bright and the staff are helpful. I enjoy catching up with owner/chef Matt Birong and sous chef Eric. I have never been disappointed with the food, coffee or desserts. My husband and I love driving 30-minutes south when Matt does his Restaurant Week menu. It is always a special three course meal, especially when he integrates the cocoa he brings back from an organic chocolate cooperative in the Dominican Republic (Kirschner Chocolates). 3 Squares is probably my favorite place to go in Vergennes other than Daily Chocolate and Vergennes Laundry. Vergennes is a cute little town about 40 minutes south of Burlington. I love to go there for lunch and a change of scenery. Lovely spring though fall. Hiking at Snake Mountain near by. Cute little shops, and considering the size of the town, nice food choices. 3 Squares has a laid back homey feel. It can be quite noisy when it's crowded which is usually brunch and lunch. The sandwiches are good, the specials interesting and comforting. It serves breakfast all day, and I believe is even open for dinner. There is always a mixed crowd of people there. Some you know live close by and others that are visiting. The only drawback, really, other than the acoustics, is that if you want to sit outside. large commercial trucks go by every 60 seconds or so and are very loud, so unless you go off hours, noise is a problem inside or out. The dessert there is just so-so, so I go to Vergennes Laundry or Daily Chocolate if I want sweets. But for a homey, cozy relaxed spot in a quaint Vermont town, 3 Squares is hard to beat. read more

And for a bit more, they subbed in the spinach salad with delicious roasted yellow beets. My Dominican braised chicken was delicious but too salty, and the rice and beans that came with it contained some really hard, dry rice, which really kinda detracted from the experience... I've eaten here a few times before and loved it, but that was not my experience today. First of all, their door slams every time somebody enters or exits, including servers (who should know better than to allow it to slam). By about the 20th or 30th slam it was getting really annoying. I ordered a Cubano sandwich and a salad. The gal who took my order should have told me (I feel) that a small salad comes with the sandwich, so I ended up with two salads. I've definitely had better Cubano sandwiches. It wasn't flavorful and didn't pop with flavor like I was expecting. To top it off, the one refill of "iced" tea that I received had no ice. Also had to use my finger to stir the sweetener in, as my table had been cleared by the time my refill arrived. One bad thing after another! And that damn door has slammed at least 10 more times while I wrote this review. I don't think I'll be back...... read more

Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday as we were passing through town. It was the only place open in town so it was undoubtedly busy. They warned us that it would be a 30 min wait for our order, but we sat down and did some people watching in the meanwhile. It is very vintage meets hipster. Old original wood floors, mismatched wood tables and chairs of various sizes. Their is a limited amount of outdoor seating but you'll have to keep an eye out because they are few and coveted. It's charming, though I could do with a few less flies but now I'm just being picky. The breakfast menu looked delicious, the French toast that I saw other people order looked appetizing. We ordered the turkey, bacon, and Swiss panino and the pulled pork burrito. The turkey was incredible. Served on a crispy focaccia, with what I think was a garlic mayo. The bacon and Swiss cheese melted together for a delicious flavor. The burrito was quite respectable. Stuffed with Spanish rice and beans with a side of salsa that was spicy. The pork was tender and not too salty. The even the burrito wrap was good, not soggy, but hot and a little crispy almost. Fares sampled were blackened shrimps w/ sausage & peppers with corn grits, roasted eggplant and goat cheese panino, a roast beef sandwich with bacon called "The Sarge", the daily special that was 90% like "The Sarge" except it had grilled onions instead of bacon, and spinach salad with candied walnuts and cranberries and goat cheese. TERRIBLE FOR DIETARY RESTRICTIONS/ALLERGIES!! LIED ABOUT INGREDIENTS! Their home fries are cooked in bacon grease but they say they are vegan! And I found bacon in my fries, after I told them I was vegan when I ordered. I brought them back and they apologized, got me new fries- i found ANOTHER PIECE OF BACON in this brand new order. I tried to ask for a replacement of home fries instead, but they told me that those are cooked in BACON GREASE. It says on their menu that the tofu scramble with home fries and toast is vegan if you switch out the pesto for herb oil, but that's clearly not true because the meal comes with home fries cooked in bacon grease! Also, I ordered the scramble with the herb oil and my grandmother ordered it with the pesto and our meals looked exactly the same. read more

We had a great breakfast here the other day. We actually came to Vergennes seeking pastries from the famous bakery down the street, but finding that they were randomly closed for an entire month, we stopped in here instead - and I'm so glad, because it was delicious and much more filling than pastries would have been! The brunch menu definitely had something for everyone, savory and sweet, even lunch sandwiches. Initially I was going to get the breakfast wrap, which sounded great, but then I caught a glimpse of the special on the blackboard: eggs benedict with fried green tomatoes. I couldn't pass that up. It ended up being a really great choice - the fried green tomatoes were super tasty, as was the thick and crusty sourdough toast underneath. The hollandaise was really good, and so was the fresh little salad of arugula on the side. I appreciated being able to get my coffee in a to-go cup to take with me outside. It was good quality coffee. One thing that could have been a tad improved was the service. It was a busy weekend morning and the staff was definitely working hard. But the guy that took our orders accidentally didn't put them on the same table, which resulted in confusion later when the servers were bringing out our food (especially since we were sitting outside). Then they forgot part of my friend's order, but they quickly fixed that. I also had to request some silverware a couple of times before finally getting some. We came here Saturday morning after spending the night sleeping outside under the stars (well lean-to) at button bay! After doing a little bit of research I decided this was the go - to breakfast place in Vergennes. I got the french toast with a iced mocha while my mom got the blueberry pancakes both were very good! I would get the french toast again, maybe on a morning where I am more hungry tho. I enjoyed the mocha, it was what I needed. The specials for the day sounded pretty interesting, but the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich is next on my list of dishes to try here! My mom had bought a strawberry rhubarb scone and was pretty disappointed with it, it wasn't what we thought a scone should be. Small, dense and really expensive for the size of it.
