Picked the best place to have lunch today. The service here was wonderful because the staff were very friendly and nice and they were happy to help. I thought the food here was wonderful because there is a variety of good menu options. I personally would recommend you get a cheeseburger because it tastes really good here. The fries were also good. The cola here at this location is very good. The ambiance of the location is good because it is very clean and it looks like a rustic barn. For the reasons I have stated in this review, I highly encourage you to visit this Red Mill Restaurant location because you will get very good service and food. read more

Gave this place a chance. It was my first time. Sat down at the bar with a friend and asked if they could make me a mango martini. The bartender said they don't have mango but they have watermelon (interesting). I ordered a regular margarita. My friend ordered a drink, we ordered a few appraisers and fell into conversation. The appetizers came quickly. Moments later we were interrupted by their "representative" (interesting), thanking us emphatically for coming to their establishment. I thought it was a bit over the top, but didn't realize how much until he quickly turned and walked to the back without thanking anyone else seated at the bar. Just an uncomfortable show for us. Interesting business model... If you go by boat, it is $125 to walk in the front door even if the marina and the restaurant are totally empty. Be warned! This was a horrific experience at the Red Mill Restaurant. We made reservations for 7:45 PM. When were seated, we ate outside. We waited nearly 50 minutes for our dinners. The waitress was helpless because the real issue is with management of the restaurant and the cook staff. The people next to us sat down before us, and were still not served their dinner when we left over an hour after sitting down to eat. There are so many other alternatives in the Burlington area. Don't go to this overpriced, disappointing restaurant for lunch or dinner. It is horrible. read more

We showed up at 2:59pm after golfing and looking forward to having food and drinks with our kids. It had been a few years since we all had been here. They turned us away. Ridiculous. They said they are closed 3-5. What a ridiculous rule on a beautiful summer Sunday. We could clearly see people dining who got there a minute before we did. In spite of what others wrote here, our experience was very good. Staff was friendly, courteous and professional. Setting was comfortable for the 9 of us-nice views of the surrounding golf course. Wow!!! Couple of things, the service was phenomenal. Our server Jothen was informative, polite, and hilarious! I ordered the Short Rib with garlic mashed potatoes and she got the special which was the Pasta and Bolognese. Both of which were delicious! We ran into some guests who had an amazing day on the boat from Basin Harbor for the Narrated Cruise on the EScape and they had delicious meals! One had the Grilled Cheese with Tomoato and Pesto and the other had the Chicken and Waffles both of which they said was excellent. The vibe of the Red Mill is second to none! Dined here after golf on a hot summer day. Staff was friendly. Poor beer selection considering the number of micro brewers in the area. I ordered a quesadilla with apples, cheddar and pepitas. First one came out completely black on the underside. I didn't know it until I took a bite. I had to send it back for another. The next came out, black on both sides, cheese wasn't even melted and no pepitas. Couldn't eat any of it. Not sure how they cook a quesadilla but whatever they do, it should be changed! read more

I have been dining at the Red Mill in for a few years and have definitely noticed a difference when I ate there last week. The menu has decreased in offerings since my last visit, and the quality of both service and food seems to have diminished. Truthfully, would give the Red Mill Restaurant a one star but our server was kind and attentive. Atmosphere outside was great, inside was dimly lit and had a questionable odor. Now, let's get to the real issue with this restaurant - the food. We ordered the special which was a salmon and sushi rice combo. Overall the presentation was fine, but the rice was undercooked and cold. We sent it back to the kitchen and they returned the exact same plate with no changes thinking we would not notice. We then sent it back for a second time, in which the chef came out to ask what was wrong with the dish. We explained that the rice was hard, crusty, and cold as if they scraped the bottom of the rice cooker. Upon speaking to us about the dish, the chef then touched the salmon with his bare hands and asked if we wanted a replacement meal or the same dish. It is beyond me why he would think it was OK to touch the salmon without gloves - especially within a COVID-19 pandemic. Our server asked us if we wanted to look at the menu for a replacement meal, which we then asked how long it would take to come out as the rest of our party had already finished eating. She said 10 min. We requested for the food to be packaged Togo and waited 35 minutes for the food to come out - of which it was thrown in the box and cold. To top it off, the restaurant charged us for the replacement meal and did not comp anything on our check. Really disappointed with this experience as we heard great things about the restaurant. It always feels like it's opening weekend, even if it's the end of August. I played Basin Harbor Golf and was looking for the 19th hole. No luck as the snack bar at the club house was closed. The Red Mill Inn was plan B and did not disappoint offering a nice selection of local craft beers and a decent lunch menu. I had the Kielbasa hot dog with fries. It hit the spot. I washed down my food with the Queen City Porter on tap. Very good! I recommend lunch after a round of golf at Basin Harbor! read more

This place was an awful lot of fun. We ate there two nights while staying at Basin Harbor. The first night was superb and the second night was very good...not quite as perfect. The gem salad is a gem: light dressing, delicious fresh greens, surprise note of candied pistachio. When Pigs Fly appetizer was the most unusual presentation I can recall. What a hoot. My husband's two mains were chicken and waffles the first night and steelhead trout the second, both more than competently prepared with interesting flavor complements. The very best thing on the menu has to be the s'mores skillet, a dessert that will satisfy any sweet tooth, but you should definitely consider splitting one! read more

I like the atmosphere. It's quaint and cozy but the food is mediocre at best and the service is friendly but not well trained. I have sat at the bar a few times and the tender always disappears for 5 mins to hang with the crew just around the corner, in the kitchen. As for the food, details are important! Soggy, uncooked bacon on a roast chicken sandwich is no bueno. Avocado tasted like it was marinated in citric acid. I think they have a cheap and shitty food supplier which can hinder any kitchen staff. Hopefully it improves. read more

Ate here twice while on vacation in Vergennes - once for lunch and once for dinner. Really friendly hostess and staff - everyone has great energy and we felt well cared for both times. Menu has something for everyone without being overwhelming. Gazpacho was darn good and the cocktails were fun. Food was solid and the overall experience was really nice and relaxed. These were our first indoor dining experiences since the start of Covid and it felt very safe. The restaurant is spacious and staff is masked. Everyone was very nice and friendly & the lobster roll was huge, but other than that, the problems go on & on. First off, we wanted to sit outside (which was considered "to-go" apparently, which means we don't get a server, order at the counter kinda thing. That's fine, no problem. When we looked at the menu, I thought it looked skimpier than the one I had seen online, but didn't think anything of it (I even asked if this was the lunch menu and he said that was the whole menu). There was 1 vegetarian option (other than salad). After ordering, I looked online again and realized that the menu was missing a bunch of stuff...so I went in to verify. Sure enough, we got the "to-go" menu...even though we were eating there (just outside). I asked if we could change one item on the order, and they let us. I didn't have the updated menu in front of me so I didn't bother changing mine, whatever. We get the food & we're missing a side salad (was supposed to come with the Trout) and a side of french fries. Annoying, but whatever. Like I said before, the lobster roll was huge. Other than that, the food wasn't anything to write home about. The apple crisp was mostly apple and butter - no crisp. Let me repeat...lots of butter. Now, the straw that broke the camel's back (and ultimately the reason I'm writing this review) is the forced gratuity. Let's recap here: this is a "to-go" order, for which we did not have an official server (although Rowan did bring us most of our food, which was nice). Also, I didn't see any notice of the 18% automatic gratuity anywhere. Not on a sign, not on the menu, not told to us, and not even on the receipt. I asked the woman at the front counter when the gratuity gets added in and she said, roughly: "its either with a certain size party or certain size order. Actually, I don't know, that's made up." (She really said that). AND to add to it, I didn't even have an itemized receipt, just a receipt for me to sign with a "tip" line & nowhere saying that the gratuity had already been added in. I had to ask the manager if the gratuity had already been added in & for the itemized receipt. Here's the thing, I'm a good tipper! Arguably a GREAT tipper. I start at 20% and work my way up...even in this case, I would've tipped 20%. For $165 for 4 adults & a child (with no alcohol), I expect better. read more

This lovely gem is located in an actual former 1940s sawmill, beside a small air field, adjacent to the Maritime Museum and associated with the Basin Harbor lodge. We loved everything about it : The decor, the service, the food.... definitely worth a visit. It is out of the way and off the beaten path, which lends to it's charm. There is plenty of parking and we were greeted upon entering and seated immediately, by a window. The atmosphere is casual, yet the service five star. There's a pub area with dark wood and an almost nautical feel, while the dining room is bright with outdoorsy artifacts everywhere, including a large canoe suspended from the ceiling. We were brought ice waters without asking, which is a nice touch, especially on a hot day. Once we had ordered, ketchup, vinegar and mayonnaise were placed on the table, again without any request - a very nice touch as well. My grandson ordered his usual of Mac & cheese with French fries. I had the Turkey Cranberry Panini with a side Caesar salad. We were both very leased with our choices. The Mac & Cheese was made from Cabot cheese and very creamy. My sandwich was amazing: sliced Granny Smith apple, melted Cabot cheddar, sliced turkey breast and a cranberry mayo on toasted bread. An unexpected highlight was the side salad: Rich, creamy dressing, lots of Parmesan and croutons...delicious and a meal in itself. The boy was too full for dessert - A first, for sure!!! Another nice surprise was the bill - Despite the amazing food and excellent service, it was very reasonable. The only drawback, for me, was that the place is frequented by and caters to the guests at Basin Harbor, since it is within short walking distance. Families were dining and allowing their children to run amuck, going in and out to play on the playground outside the windows, where they could be seen. This is no doubt a plus for the guests, but somewhat annoying for the rest of us, especially as we were seated by the door that was constantly being opened and closed by he children. read more

I am a local (live in Lincoln, VT) and really want to love this place, but was less than happy with my meal earlier this evening. First of all, I will say that the atmosphere is pleasant, although I wish the view was of something other than a children's playground. Our server was friendly and prompt and my ice tea glass was always refilled, so that was a plus. Also, my house salad was delicious and I enjoyed the homemade blue cheese dressing. I also ordered the grilled Brussels sprouts, which were quite good. For my entree I ordered the gnocchi. I normally LOVE gnocchi, but this was not good gnocchi. It had an unpleasant burned taste, and the gnocchi itself was pasty and dense -- not light and airy and fluffy like it should be. It had obviously been grilled, and many of the pieces were burnt. I was able to send it back and was not charged for it, hence the 3-star rating. Next time I will stick with a burger! read more

This was my first trip to the Red Mill, a place I had been meaning to eat at for quite awhile. Our sever was friendly and delivered drinks and a bread basket right away. The table we were sat at had fold down (or up) sides. It had apparent use and subsequently left me with an uneven spot to eat my meal. I started with a cup of the Cheddar Ale Soup which was amazing, I could have had several. For an entree I ordered the turkey club sandwich and fries. The ingredients were advertised as local but the sandwich itself left a lot of be desired. The white bread was heavily toasted and somewhat greasy. The toasting was purposeful but took away from the sandwich. The bacon from Dakin Farms was great but the local turkey tasted rubbery and slimily. The savior was the basil garlic aioli. I dinned with four others, two enjoyed their meal very much while the other two said there was a little to be left desired. I want to return again to try a different menu item and give it another shot. read more

Not sur ewhat the other reviewer(s) didn't like about this place. We were staying in a tent at the state park nearby nad had arrived late. We decided to go out for dinner rather than have to drive to Vergennes to buy food then try to cook it. We had two small kids in tow, so figured it would be easier to eat out. Red Mill Inn was one of very few places that stayed open past 9pm, so we decided to go there. It's about a 5 minute drive from the campsite. We arrived at sunset and realized that it was in the Basin Harbor Club, no proble. We were pleasantly surprised to see that there was a kids playground right outside. Perfect! The kids played for a while which was nice. We went in and got seated within about 5 minutes. they were actually pretty busy given that it was a saturday night, which I guess was to be expected. Service was great. We were served by a woman name Etherea (I think) who was very attentive and accomodating to the children. Food was actually excellent. I had a spinach, goat cheese and walnut salad appetizer and the salmon entree. Both were good. The salad coul dhave used slightly less dressing, but was as good or better than some we've had in Boston and NY. The salmon was good too. Portion could have been slightly larger but the price was commensurate with the portion sizes. Prices were actually quite affordable. My wife order the tater tots and for her main course had something that I now can't remember, but she said it was good. Kids had steak tips and chicken fingers with broccoli. The broccoli was cooked well and not overcooked or mushy like many places tend to do. Overall, our meal (3 appetizers, two adults' entrees and two kids meals with 3 drinks) came to ~$100 with tip which I thought was quite reasonable for the quality of the food and the setting. So disappointing. We were excited by the menu but it reads much better than the actual food. The "celery ceasar" salad was bland and unremarkable. The chicken "pot au feu" practically inedible and over salted. My husband's trout did not match the description and was also salty and disappointing. Really mediocre food. I think I was expecting more based in the fact that this is in Basin Harbor forgetting that its still in Vergennes. That being said it was ok but nothing spectacular. We had the cheese balls and roasted cauliflower to start. Both were good. Then I had the steak with frites and my husband had the chicken fingers. His chicken was totally lacking in seasoning and mine tasted off to me. Like it was a little past its date. The fries were ok but cold by the time they got to the table. Our two cocktails were ok although my hsuabds sunset named tasted weirdly like cocktail sauce. Yes you read that right. He finished it but it was a weird drink. All in all it was ok. Good service but she was definitely overworked with a big section to attend to. There is a playground for the kids so its a good place for families. But not date night. I was initially hesitant going here based on the 3 out of 5 stars but after looking at the reviews and realizing most were old and the newer negative ones were not that serious we gave it a try since it was the only option besides cooking in a rolling boat. O boy were we glad we did. The staff were the nicest and they treated the covid issue with immaculate attention. Everything was wiped and everyone were wearing masks thus making it very comforting. We were seated in a little darker area since we did not have reservations so the pictures are not the best. My apologies. We started with Salt and vinegar onion rings. Probably the best onion rings i had! Chef Chris use crystallized vinegar to bring a slight acidity to them without the sogginess of liquid vinegar. They are served with fresh watercress and on top he drizzle a lemon mayonnaise. Beautiful and delicious!! My main course was the "Champ" burger that was a perfectly cooked wagu patty and topped with a perfectly cooked over-easy egg. The warm egg yolk combined perfectly with the meat and the onion & bacon jam. The top bun had a nice layer of molten cheddar. Its definitely a knife and fork burger but it was excellent. One of the best i had. My wife took the warm lobster roll. Its nothing like a classic connecticut style warm roll with lobster and butter in a hotdog bun. This was a nice grilled roll filled with a mix of lobster, molten cheese, chorizo, sweetedrops/inca peppers and sour cream. Very different but a brilliant dish. Both me and my wife took sweet potato fries. Im typically ask for my sweet potato fries to be extra well done. Forgot to ask this time but i still got them crispy and delicious Excellent!! For dessert we had the banana fosters bread pudding. It was surprisingly light and airy with a very nice texture. Little light on the rum, banana and raisin flavor I'm associating with bananas foster but we truly enjoyed it thanks to its lightness after a heavy main course. My hat off to manager Scott and Chef Chris for turning this place around and making it a great destination for a trip. read more

How can you complain when you are surrounded by so much natural beauty and the food is excellent!? We visited here late June and even though the season hadn't really started there was a good crowd in the Red Mill. Located adjacent to the wonderful Basin Harbor Resort and right next to the small airfield, this pub style restaurant looks like an old barn upon approach hailing it back to the Mill's of old. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who showed us to a nice table next to the bar. The place is deceptively large with several seating area's, we were sat near a nice open fire (not lit of course!) We went straight for the main's however the app menu looks pretty cool too. I opted for the chicken and waffles, excellent fried chicken breast pieces served with fluffy waffles drenched in Vermont maple syrup, amazing. #2 went with your standard run of the Mill burger served with fries, initially the fries were a little on the luke warm side, we mentioned it to our wonderful waiter Steve from Naples who returned in no time with a replacement side of piping hot fries. #3 went with the cornflake crusted chicken tenders, i'm guessing they were delicious as the next time i looked up they were all gone! If you are in the area the Red Mill should be on your list, great pub atmosphere, cozy location and outstanding food. read more

Live entertainment and DJs most weekends of the summer. The menu changes seasonally, I really enjoy the variety and the fact that ingredients are sourced locally.
