Dinner at 3 West was a total disappointment from the service to the food. The waitress couldn't have been nicer but she was so busy she couldn't really give us any attention. She actually felt so bad by the level of service she was providing that she comped our dessert. The food took a long time to arrive. Our plates weren't cleared between courses. Our water glasses were never refilled. No one ever asked if our food was O.K. The first wine we chose was "unavailable."We were never given a dessert menu- we had to ask for one. We had to endure this ordeal for two hours- it took close to 20 minutes just to get the check. All this could be overlooked if the food was good but it was not. Cauliflower appetizer was undercooked and overly spiced. Chicken parm meatballs were dry. Halibut smelled very fishy which is usually not a good sign - which proved to be true. Short ribs were fatty, chewy and one dimensional and sat on a bed of vegetables that consisted of potatoes, corn, tomatoes and other unidentifiable vegetables all in an unappetizing color brown. (Those were left untouched). Some gravy or wine reduction might have helped but it was all served dry. The best dish was a side of mashed potatoes which were buttery, creamy and well-seasoned- they would have made a great bed for the short ribs to sit on instead of those sad vegetables. The Funfetti donut sundae was good. The most positive comment I can make is that they didn't rush us out! To pay as much as we did for food and service that was mediocre at best was disappointing- we will not be going back. read more

Great spot for a date night, business dinner or a solo dinner at the bar. I was in town for work and popped in for a quick dinner. the bar is beautiful but the beer and bourbon selection is pretty average, however you'll find something decent enough to drink. I ended up getting a grain bowl with grilled chicken. It was quality and filling with a reasonable amount of flavor. The service at the bar was meh. The bartenders were a bit slow and didn't seem enthused to be there. Took them forever to refill water and didn't check on me during dinner, i would have loved another beer and some hot sauce or pepper. Overall, it's a fine choice barely 4 stars. read more

I used to work nearby and often went for lunch and occasionally drinks or drinks and dinner. A very solid, professionally run place with a wide range of entrees. The food is first rate with very affordable lunch specials. No one ever has had a bad meal or drink and if you did, I'm sure they'd rectify it immediately. Many members of the wait staff have been there for years. They know the ins and outs of the menu. One criticism is the vegetarian entrees are lacking in number and creativity the rest of the menu has. Outside of the summer, a fireplace not just warms up the place but creates comfortable surroundings with that woody tree smell. Really can't go wrong here. read more

En route to the environs if Albany on a Tuesday afternoon, I noted hunger pangs and fancied a bite as I had another couple of hours to mu destination. Using my Android, I searched for nearby restaurants off of 287 N and 3 West was the shortest detour at 20 minutes, thus I pressed "start navigation". 3 Weamst is located at the left edge of a fancy sort of strip mall. There is ample parking in the rear and beneath the building which is where I chose to prevent my vehicle from getting hot in the still warm early Setember sun. Upon arrival at approximately 1:45PM, I was promptly seated at the location if my choice and my order was taken. I decided upon General Tso's Cauliflower as id never heard of it and am always eager to taste new menu selections. There were probably less then a half dozen diners present at the time I was here. Anyway, the Tso's Cauliflower did not disappoint as it was precisely the type of meal I'd been in the mood for. (Photo included) I might add that i like cloth table napkins! Located near multiple hotels, which is great for out of town individuals. My first time checking this restaurant out was on a work trip. It's located in a strip mall but don't be deterred by that. It's beautiful inside. Warm, cozy, and sophisticated. I love the natural fire in the middle of the restaurant. We were a party of 6 and seated at a round table in the back. Since we were a larger party we ordered a handful of appetizers including the meatballs, calamari, Mac + cheese, and the crab cakes. Nice spread. Loved that I could try so many things. For dinner, the table ordered multiple filets and the short ribs. I ordered the salmon. The table said the steak is excellent! I loved the salmon. Service was great. The salmon was a smidge overcooked (1/2 star off), maybe by about a minute. The salad was wilted when it got to my table (1/2 star off). For dessert, I had the bread pudding with ice cream -- again, good but not too interesting. The ambiance is rather formal, with white linens and old-school chairs at every table. What a nice surprise! We wanted a comfy, cozy place with good food after a day of travel from the West coast and another day/night of celebrating a wedding. We Googled a few places and landed on 3 West. We were pleasantly surprised to walk into a beautiful, warm and inviting restaurant. The staff was super welcoming and made us feel right at home. Everything is well thought out here. They keep the fire warm, serve lemon for water in a separate dish and offer a beautiful tea "service" with honey. The menu offered a "Power Lunch." We each decided to go with that option, and it was perfect. The Butternut Squash was yummy, the salmon was buttery, and flakey. My chicken slider was fried to perfection. We were all super happy and would have stayed longer if possible. We are definitely coming back if we ever get the chance. read more

The food here is really mediocre for the price. The chicken pie had NO seasoning. My family and I went for my fathers birthday. I called in advance to get a candle and dessert set up for him but the host asked my father point blank if he was celebrating a birthday that night. That really ruined the surprise. A lot of the food was just under-seasoned. The best part was definitely our dessert. Our waitress was great too! The food came out very slow though. The atmosphere was really cozy and intimate. Overpriced average food. Our entire group was underwhelmed. First all our starters of soup were served cold. Also, the portions are tiny. Waiter was pleasant and quickly offered to replace the soups with hot soup. Tasted good, just not much of it. Three of us got the cheeseburger for the meal and it was on par with a chain burger. Fries super salty. Nephew got the filet mignon and didn't think it was very good. Only person at the table that liked their meal was my niece who got the lobster roll. Yes, a strip mall location. Yes, if things were busy it doesn't look like there would be enough parking. Yet, if you make it through the door, you are welcomed to a surprise. It has a very cozy feel for such a large place inside. Going at a time of cold weather, seeing a real fireplace going made for a warm feeling indeed. The PULLED PORK NACHOS -- Blue Corn Chips, Avo Mash, Crumbled Feta, Chipotle Crema, Calabrian Chili BBQ Sauce, were nothing you would imagine 'nachos' to be presented as but this was actually a welcomed and wonderful twist on the mind and taste buds. The CHEDDAR BISCUITS with Maple chili butter were a nice add to the meal as well. For my main course I tried the PAN SEARED SALMON -- Miso Chili Crunch Glaze, Vegetable Grain Pilaf. It had enough going on flavor and texture wise to make it a truly unique dish to what you would get in other places. I wish they had a larger selection of craft beer, but I also understand this is more of a wine place when it comes to dinner. In summary, however, I was truly happy with this local discovery that stands out from everything else in the area. Waitress Katie is the sweetest thing- polite and accommodating. She didn't make me feel difficult as I made about ten requests and had another 6 questions. The bar tender, Sebastian, did an exact 4 oz pour and measured it out for me as I'm a light weight. Yummy soup and salad. Still waiting on my Brie and turkey sandwich, but I expect it will be yummy! Lovely space inside a NJ strip mall, near Interstate 78. The crispy Rhode Island calamari was delicious and I enjoyed the diverse flavors of the dish. Broccolini was excellent, very tender and flavorful though it was served room temperature, which I found strange. The Yukon Gold potatoes were fine. Filet mignon itself was not good at all, and exceptionally dried out, though I made the rookie mistake of ordering a steak in someplace other than a steakhouse. I learned my lesson. The requested medium rare was served beyond well done. The server never followed up on the quality of any of the food served nor took notice when taking back a plate with one bite out from the filet. Obviously, it must not be unusual for people to be unable to eat the food here. If you must eat here, I suggest the side dishes. They were all acceptable. Overall, this place is just not for me. Other dining companions had similar observations. Note that there is a great Afgan restaurant next door called Hills of Herat, although at that point it was too late to pick up take out for dinner. read more

The burrata was ice cold which just about EVERYONE knows is the worst way to serve it. The crusty bread they served it with was also days old--ugh. The calamari were not top quality except for the price--you can do better at Costco. The main course of salmon and steak were again nothing to write home about. Salmon looked great but was too dry. Steak was good but not much came with it--I guess they wanted us to order side dishes but didn't advise us to. Anyway, it was worth skipping out on dessert and calling it a night. It's a decent place to grab a meal but not a top shelf restaurant which is consistent with all the other restaurants in town. So if you want somewhere to go with friends after work, fine; but if you're looking for something special, you need to go elsewhere. read more

We were a party of 4 having an animated conversation when our server approached from behind with hot soup just as one of us was emphasizing a point with gestures. He ended up jostling the server, spilling the soup on one of our guests. We didn't know then that the server also had been hit, but noticed she had gotten snippy. We ended up being served by the manager. He told us our server's feelings were hurt because she had been burned and the perpetrator had (unknowingly) made a joke about hot soup. The entire incident cast a pall on what should have been a lovely experience, because it was handled poorly. My initial inclination was to reflect it in the tip, but I was persuaded otherwise. Food quality and taste are very solid - i had a tremendous pork chop - brined and juicy on the inside, seared to a crust on the outside. My party had a strip steak cooked medium. I was well-cooked to a nice pink. The steak was still juicy and tender, if lacking in seasoning. We also had a salad topped with salmon which was also perfectly cooked, but again light on the seasoning. Fries came in a cone and were excellent. Service was efficient and friendly. The physical restaurant was beautiful - warm wood tones in the Craftsman style. And on a cold night, it was toasty inside, with a real blazing wood-burning fireplace in the middle which gave off an incomparable aroma. read more

As soon as you walk in it smells of fireplace which is so comforting and wonderful! The staff is extremely personable, nice and they explain everything on the menu. However, sometimes their explanation can turn into a sales pitch which is a little off putting especially for a higher quality restaurant. The food is fresh and great. I ordered the potstickers as an appetizer which were delicious and had an entire side that was crusted in black and which sesame seeds. I ran home to tell my husband immediately that we must do this ourselves in the future. For my entree I ordered the halibut tacos which were so fresh. The slaw in the taco as well has a nice kick to it which pairs perfectly with the breaded halibut. My only complaint is that the tortilla of the taco for all three of my tacos was hard. Like when you heat up a tortilla and to results in the tortilla getting stiff as opposed to soft. This was a bummer because it made eating the tacos a little less enjoyable. The chips that come with the tacos are crunchy and great. For dessert I shared their pumpkin butter cakes which was delicious and like a mini cake so get it to share with people! However the flavor seemed more of an apple cider flavor than pumpkin but I am not complaining because both flavors are a win. The top had some incredibly crispiness too it and they served it with ice cream. All in all this is a solid restaurant, but nothing I would go out of my way to dine at. read more

Thoroughly impressed! My partner, his mom, and I came in on a rainy Sunday night. We didn't have a reservation but it was empty. The host kindly honored our request to sit near the fireplace. The atmosphere is extremely cozy. It's warm and inviting, yet upscale. The drink menu was incredible! They had so many great cocktails to choose from. Unfortunately I don't remember each of them but they were all deliciously crafted and nuanced. We started with the yellowfin tuna tartare and cheddar biscuits appetizer. Very fresh tuna! Though after we finished, I realized we didn't have any of the crispy wontons to eat with it. That ended up being fine since we liked it just as much without. The biscuits were nothing to write home about but the butter was very good. The short rib was tender and flavorful. I didn't try the scallops but the presentation was nice. The harvest pork chop was the star. The mustard seed potatoes and the mustard sauce on the pork chop was to die for. The pork chop itself was thick and juicy with a perfect outer char. Definitely one of the best things I've had this year. We topped it off with the cinnamon bread pudding for dessert. 10/10. I was so full. HIGHLY recommend coming out for a special meal. read more

This place has always been reliable, but it seems that it has slipped significantly. The place looks worn.....missing tiles in the entrance foyer, wood trim looks beat up. The AC was not working on the night we were there. The drinks were just OK. The smoked grapefruit cocktail tasted a bit like an ash tray. Dinner was disappointing. The croutons in the Caesar salad were soggy and the dressing was bland. The tuna Tartare tasted a bit off, apparently seasoned with smoked paprika that doesn't pair well with wasabi. My pork chop, long a house specialty, was dry and the red cabbage seemed like an afterthought. My wife's chicken was decent but the plate looked thrown together and unappetizing. We were apprehensive about visiting 3 West, there were a number of reviews with contradicting information about quality of service, speculating about what it must be like to work at the restaurant and criticizing hostesses. Naturally the opposite was our experience but perhaps that's down to skipping lunch and wanting to eat earlier than usual at 6:45pm. High ceilings and relatively attractive modern styling, nicely lit with a fire place in the center of the restaurant that was well maintained every few minutes. A long bar run along the left hand wall as you enter. Hostess was polite and accommodating when attempting to find a dining table instead of high top, was unsuccessful but still pleasant. Service from Stephen was prompt, helpful and accommodating. My wife had an injury that needed a little adaption of the menu to accommodate what she was able to eat and this was accomplished easily. Salmon, with whipped potato and kale were pulled from various meals and delicious apparently. Honestly, I was too engrossed in the pork chop in plum sauce. Marginally overdone but I still cleaned my plate. Wines were good and the local beers from Trap Rock Brewery; Ghost Pony lager and the amber Hathor were both surprisingly good. Portion sizes were good, price was good for a relatively upscale restaurant on a Saturday and overall we were extremely happy and will return with friends. read more

An old Basking Ridge staple, it has good new American food that is inventive but not cutting-edge. The service is always pleasant and helpful. The decor is nice, spacious and clean. The atmosphere is buzzy. The menu has not changed much over the years and could use a post-Pandemic upgrade. Went as a group with my colleagues and everything was fantastic, the food, drinks, service. I ordered a delicious apple cider sangria 10/10 recommend. I really wanted to like 3 West. I really did. But I didn't. The restaurant itself is very nice. But it is not fine dining. To have someone ask of we will be "investing" in a bottle.of wine was...strange. Then, to act disappointed was off-putting. There were at least three attempts to get us to order appetizers, also met by visible disappointment when we declined. Everything is way overpriced, and wasn't very good. The chicken pot pie was horrible. Soggy, undercooked pastry and tasteless filling (for 32 dollars, I expected a masterpiece). They charged 8.95 for a 12 oz lager from their own brewery (8.25 at Trap Rock). read more
