    Cuban sandwich
    Sydney H.

I was so excited to try this new location! The Located in DT Raleigh, I wasn't quite sure about the parking situation. However, there is a parking deck connected to the building. I just wish that they validated parking. I came during a weekday morning and it was decently but our food and drinks came out pretty fast. My friends and I ordered a few different drinks and food items. We shared a dark citrus waffle and egg and cheese biscuit. The dark citrus waffle was a masterpiece and equally tasty! Perfectly sweet. The egg and cheese biscuit was also great as well. I love their biscuits. I ordered an iced winter matcha which was also delicious. The presentation of all the food and drinks were great. I ordered a cuban sandwich with chips and side salad to go and i also enjoyed that! The inside of this place was so beautiful and had a moody vibe to it. It's definitely a great spot to grab some breakfast/lunch/coffee with a friend

Tim was extremely polite and because of him I must visit many more times to try a host of things. I was torn between a few items and he guided me on his favorite which is what I got. I love how the business uses shelled eggs. The music selection was great and people were able to talk and not be a distraction. My friend joined me and we stayed most of the day. One day I will try the bar.

Seasonal matcha and biscuit with blueberry compote

I didn't realize Jubala opened a new location! My friends and I stopped in for coffee and matcha. We each enjoyed our drinks and biscuits. I especially liked the seasonal matcha paired with a biscuit with tangy blueberry compote. The seasonal matcha was made with matcha, walnut syrup, milk (I chose oat milk), and chocolate shavings. As usual, jubala presented the matcha beautifully. The walnut syrup was stronger than I anticipated creating a robust rich, nutty flavor. This location is large with ample seating. Order at the counter and find a seat. We sat in a comfortable booth. Your order is brought to your table in a reasonable amount of time. Dirty dishes can then be placed in the receptacle by the trash before leaving. Street parking is available nearby.

We visited the new Jubala location at 301 Hillsborough Street, Suite 120 for lunch, their fourth location and their first in downtown Raleigh. It's about ten minutes farther for us than our usual Jubala, but it's well worth the extra drive. We love the expanded lunch menu, and it's noticeably less crowded than the other locations. The space itself is very charming. Although we've now been several times, this review reflects our first visit. Parking: Being downtown, parking is always a consideration. So far it has been easy. The best option is directly on Hillsborough Street right outside the building; meters are simple to pay using the parking app, and you can park on either side of the street. One visit required us to use the adjacent lot behind the building, which is also paid parking. Finding the Entrance: On your first visit you might be tempted to enter through the main doors of the 301 Hillsborough building, as we were. Instead, walk to the right and enter through the door marked Suite 120. There was no line when we walked in, so we ordered right away. Even as longtime Jubala regulars, we needed a moment to take in the new lunch items. Our Order: 1 Pear Salad 1 Beef Boss + chips 1 Cubano + chips 1 Pumpkin Cappuccino 1 Spiced Orange Espresso Mule 1 Chocolate Chip Banana Bread (heated) Total: $58 + taxes and tip Food & Drinks: The new lunch sandwiches are excellent. Both the Beef Boss and the Cubano were well executed and very satisfying. The Pumpkin Cappuccino is my wife's new favorite, not sure if it's a new item, but it's outstanding. The Orange Espresso Mule was refreshing and well made, but not something I'd reorder. The chocolate chip banana bread has long been a favorite, and I appreciated that it was served heated. The Pear Salad was enjoyable, and I liked the goat cheese, but the pears themselves were a bit lacking in flavor. A good salad, but not amazing. Space & Service: We love the look of the new space. The booths are very cute, and we were lucky to get one on our first visit. Service was excellent. Many of the staff were familiar faces from other Jubala locations, and they were clearly excited to be part of the new opening, and it showed. Since this first visit, we've already been back several times for our usual breakfast order, and that continues to be excellent as well, especially that Pumpkin Cappuccino!

Espresso does not disappoint. On the ground floor of a large sterile building. Once you get paste that vibe, good staff, quality espresso.

Although the space is tiny, the desserts and cocktails more than make up for the line out front, and the noisy nature of downtown locations! There were 4 of us and we enjoyed the strawberry pretzel pie, derby pie, ice cream, coffee, and old fashioned. First of all, AMAZING cocktails- and an epic list of whiskeys, bourbons, and scotches. They've also got some custom beverages that you cannot find else. Super thumbs up for originality of cocktails, creative menu presentation, and speed of service! The derby pie was good- but I like mine with a denser filling. My friend enjoyed her strawberry pretzel pie, and the fact that not many places offer this on their menu. But, she said it was not as good as homemade. The gents in our party RAVED about how great Bittersweet's old fashioned drinks were! They said that these were definitely in the top three beverages they had ever had! This hole in the wall had a bridal party, some goth appearing folks, and suits too. In short, no matter what you like to drink, what you enjoy eating for dessert, you will find it here!

It was well made. So much so I had two! For food, these are shareable small plates. Morning truly felt like a meal. The food came out fast and was hot/fresh. I had the crab claws, crispy shrimp and dumplings. The crab claws were delicious. Lots of them too. Served with bread I didn't use. The crispy shrimp were nice large shrimp and a spicy sauce with rice. I ended up using the rice with the crab claw sauce. And the dumplings were ok but I didn't eat many of them. They were my least favorite. I would come back to enjoy coffee and breakfast, but doubt I come back for dinner.

My partner got the iced version--which was somehow even better than the warm version. I don't like my coffee drinks too sweet, and they struck exactly the right balance. Unfortunately, this is probably because the chairs were the equivalent of sitting on a guitar pick. The rest of the decor similarly resembled a mid-century modern insane asylum. All this is child's play compared to the drinks. I was hoping they would redeem the experience. I was rooting for you, iris coffee lab. The matcha left me wanting more. I couldn't taste even a whisper of matcha flavoring, and the price was laughable for a glass of green milk. When my flat white arrived, I felt that twinkle return to my eye. Sadly, about 3 sips later, as I neared the end of my beverage I was shocked to discover a texture component I was not expecting. After a lot of contemplation, I have decided I am not a fan of coffee grounds swirling around my mouth. The customers are hip and trendy, the employees exceedingly friendly and speedy, the drinks bespoke and innovative, but I think we need to cut out the frills and go back to the basics. Why play 3D chess when you've yet to master tic tac toe? I think the experience was net neutral, but for how steep the pricing is, I feel it's my duty to let the world know what they're getting into.

I'm a big fan of lighter-roasted, funky, expressive coffees, and Black & White absolutely delivers. Their roasting style leans into vibrant, fruit-forward profiles, and they do it with confidence. The downtown Raleigh location is fantastic too. It's right in the middle of everything, making it a great stop for a date night, meeting up with friends, or just dropping in for a quick but exceptional cup. Their seasonal menu was small but mighty -- just a couple of options -- but the kind where every drink looks so good you wish they'd never rotate them off the menu. I started with the orange cardamom flat white, and it was perfect in every way. Beautifully presented and incredibly balanced. The espresso, milk, orange, and cardamom all complemented each other without any one flavor taking over. It was nuanced, aromatic, and just a joy to drink. For my second drink, I ordered a Rodrigo Sanchez pour-over, a co-fermented Colombian coffee labeled with passion fruit notes. It was everything I want from a pour-over -- bright, juicy, and expressive, with the kind of sweet stone fruit and berry notes that make light-roasted coffee so exciting. Black & White continues to prove why they're one of the most respected specialty roasters around. If you love adventurous coffee with huge flavor and careful execution, this place is an absolute must-visit.
