We visited the 328 grill on a very busy Saturday night. It's located in the American Legion, which feels like a small bar up north. We ended up sitting at the bar, as we didn't want to wait for a table. The bartender was friendly and very attentive. For our meal, we ordered dry rub wings to start, which were amazing! The seasoning was a little spicy, but not too heavy. They cooked them so they were juicy, but still had a crunchy skin. I believe the ranch was homemade, it was really thick and flavorful. For my main, I decided on the chicken sammie. It was ok. Honestly, it tasted a lot like fish. Not sure if that had to do with it being the day after their fish fry? The breading was a little soggy on the underside and just didn't have much flavor. The Cajun fries were good, but overall felt underwhelmed by the whole basket. I'd like to go back and try a burger.

    Friday Fish Fry!

First off, we can thank Tony Cu for this recommendation! My wife and I thought we would try a new fish fry, and the 328 Grill was the spot. This place is located in the American Legion in St. Paul Park. We were greeted when we walked in, and were asked if we were doing the fish fry, or standard dining. We said we were there for the fish fry and they directed us toward the line snaking through the interior. We followed the line and were surprised the line went out the back door! We decided to wait since we were already there. The line moved relatively fast, and everyone in line was friendly and we all chatted a bit. We got to the front to pay and were directed toward a table. The seating is set up where you will sit with other people at your table. It was fun chatting with the people at our table! There is a second line to go through the buffet style setup. That moved relatively fast as well with a few pauses as they supplied more fried fish. One tip, if you want only baked fish, you can go to the front of the line due to most people waiting for the fried fish. Going through the line you have the choice of fried or baked fish, mac 'n cheese, scalloped potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, and three pudding options. The fried fish was a definite hit! Great lighter batter and big flakey fish pieces. The fish itself was cooked perfectly and extremely flavorful. All of the sides were a nice touch as well, which are AYCE as well! Personally, we agreed the fried was better than the baked. Overall, it was well worth the wait in the two separate lines, and the staff and customers were all very friendly! Definitely a top spot to visit!

We came in for the fish fry during lent, please note it's busy so there was a line outside the door! But well worth it and they keep that line moving quick. If you have a smaller group, you might get to cut the line as they will place people at tables with more than one group so it's much easier to seat groups of two. The food was fantastic and such a good deal. They load you up on the first plate so we didn't even feel the need to go a second time. The volunteers were great and the food was fresh. My only critique is that they should have the dessert separate so you can easily go up for another pudding cup without needing to wait in the fish line. I've heard this place has great burgers so I'll definitely be back!

    Fo' Cheezy with tots

Came back for a second visit. The Fo' Cheezy burger is da bomb! They were a bit heavy with the 328 seasoning on the burger, but otherwise loved the burger. It's like a patty melt, without the onions, and more cheese.

Fondue You Love Me with side salad, and sadly, no fondue

We dropped by 328 Grill because of its award status for having some of the best cheese curds and tots in the whole state. We arrived right at opening time at 11am on Saturday. Judging by the calls of greeting the staff made to others as they entered, this is a place with a lot of regulars. The whole vibe of the place is homey, nothing fancy, but it's well-kept and well-loved. There were two rooms we could sit in, over by the bar or near to the pull-tab and gaming counter; we went by the counter. Service was good the whole time. We shared the cheese curds. They were indeed exceptional. Very thin breading over piping hot cheese, giving the effect of little cheesy clouds. Definitely some of the best I've had. My son had the fries, and I had one as well. They were outstanding. Crisp and seasoned in all the right ways. My husband had a burger alongside tots, and greatly enjoyed his food. I ordered the Fondue You Love Me with a side salad. As I dug into my sandwich, I kept thinking, this is good, but where's the cheese? I didn't bring up the issue with the server, because we just couldn't wait around as we had a hockey game to get to, but if you compare my sandwich pic to those posted by other people, the absence of the fondue aspect is pretty clear. To their credit, it was still a good sandwich, but it could've been amazing. At least the awesome curds had already given me a good dose of cheese for the day.

Ordered medium rate. A bit more well done.

I went to this restaurant because it was promoted on Twin Cities Live. I ordered the Sweet Chesus (clever name) that has cheese loaded into a ring on top of the bun. The ring is removed at the table and the cheese flows down the sides of the burger. It's a great concept, but in reality it was overwhelming in terms of the cheese. I ordered the burger medium rare, but it was more well done in places, more rare in other places. I'm not sure how that happens. The fries were excellent, as was the service. The ambiance is what you would expect for a VFW. (The 328 is located within the VFW).

Fo'Cheezy- lots of cheese! What's not to like haha

Decided to give this place a try after hearing so much about it from a coworker! It did not disappoint! This is located in a small town with parking out front. There were not any clear signs that I saw for the "328 Grill" but it's located inside the VFW. This place has that "hole in the wall" "small town" "SUPER FRIENDLY" Minnesota feel! Absolutely loved it! You also got the feel that the food was going to be fantastic... and it was!! Everyone I encountered was extremely nice! The food: We tried the Mn Poutine which uses wild rice soup! It was salty but ohhhh so good!! The cheese curds were greasy in the best way! The had great ranch and it was very tasty!! All 3 of us got the Fo'cheezy and that was full of cheesy goodness! I had the tots and they were cooked perfectly! Everything that we tried was on the saltier side but that's also what made it so tasty!! I would absolutely recommend this to anyone! I'd love to come back and try some of the other options on the menu!!

The Miss Elizabeth: Swiss, French, onion, dijonnaise, and bacon served on an inverted brioche bun $15. Normal fries.

Bar- as to be expected for a VFW/Legion (older atmosphere & guests) had a lot of events advertised and pulltabs (3.5/5) Service- bartenders and waitresses were friendly and talkative and gave great recommendations, however were not attentive to needing refills or giving people tabs when it seemed they were finished (4/5) Wings- very tasty with a crispy outside and juicy inside, dry rub had lots of flavor and the ranch served with wings appeared to be homemade (4.6/5) The big dill- juicy, cooked to medium, good blend of toppings, not as pickly as imagined, comparable to a Big Mac, but fresher (4.7/5) The Elizabeth- juicy, cooked to medium, toasted and inverted bun to avoid sogginess, very saucy, bacon not too overpowering and crispy (4.2/5) Tried the standard fries and the Cajun tots. Both were seasoned well with 14 spice, perfect crisp on the tots. Will be back!

We stopped in today and had a cheeseburger and the Fo' Cheezy. My husband didn't care for the herb mayo on the cheeseburger but the Fo' Cheezy was great. The parmesan crusted bread and the pepper jack cheese whiz make it special. They only serve their burgers pink, no pink or well. But ours were medium rare and perfect. Just ask for them mooing and hope they are nice. Service was great too.

Yep still 5 stars. My favorites include jalepeno bizness for cheezy style, MN poutine, chicken sando, Cajun wings, caramel shake. Everything is good

Do you suffer from excessive yawning when someone mentions going out to an American Legion? Have you ever feared about what kind of locals you may encounter when visiting said establishment? Do you worry about the potential gut rot associated with buffet dining? FEAR NO MORE. Growing up, I've had my fair share of receptions in dimly lit banquet halls. Yet, word spreads like the plague when restoration is in order. When people who doesn't always wear a capes break a social stigma (regarding legions and VFWs having only popcorn and the occasional fish fry), a community begins to flourish with excitement. I'm not sure what kind of wizards are back there in the kitchen, but they should never let go of their burger secrets. Like, padlocked in a vault and buried in the woods type of energy. Every ingredient makes complete sense for each sandwich. They have a wide variety of options while still not being overwhelming. Their sandwiches are big enough to fill you up without making you feel like a concrete mixer. It's thoroughly planned and precise. They offer rotating burgers of the week, which makes me salivate from anticipation prior to arriving. Attached is a photo of the Fondue You Love Me. It is essentially a chicken parmigiana inspired sandwich with a velvety mozzarella fondue. Parmesan-crusted bread keeps me from having to use too many napkins. Ask for a side of the fondue to dip your potato of choice into!! This place feels like home. Good food can really change your mindset. Memories of food are snippets of my life that I truly cherish and every thing I've had so far in about 15 visits all have jolted my tastebuds with joy. I will vow from this day forward to not judge a book based off of its initial cover regarding restaurants. Please, go support your local American Legion and VFW. You may find something magical made by mad scientists that will bring you to your knees from happiness. If you see me on the street grinning for no reason today, it's because I'm digesting the good stuff. 10/10 would smash again.

Great place, great burgers. Everything's is made from scratch. Beats any of the chain restaurants in Hoodbury or Cottage Grove.

My oh my was this good! We started with the best Brussels sprouts ever. Hot honey, bacon and Parmesan. They were heavenly. We decided to split the dill with it burger. It was a pickle infused burger with shredded lettuce and awesome sauce and it was amazing. We had it with the Cajun tots and seasoned sour cream. So dang good. I can't wait to go back and try more!

Walking inside the first thing I noticed was the lack of decor and warmth in this place. The pictures are hanging up spaced unevenly. The boards above the booths are not screwed into the wall. It honestly looks and feels tacky. There is a lack of decor and the lighting is too harsh. It feels like someone is moving out. Our server and the other employees, are the only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars. They were absolutely lovely and helped one another out. Our water glasses were filled multiple times and our server was very sweet. The food: we started with a beer and mojito. The beer was good. The Mojito was too strong and too sweet. It was really strange... Then we had the lobster bisque. It was very peppery and lacked flavor. There was only one piece of lobster and it had a strange after taste to it. The jerk chicken nachos were awesome is flavor but sooo greasy. See the pictures. I got the hot chicken and waffles. The texture of the chicken was great!! And the waffles were tasty! But these chicken tenders are very spicy and I could only get through half the meal. I would love if you could pick a non spicy version!! My boyfriend got a lobster roll and said it was good not great and the fries were pretty standard. We will not be back to this location. If you want to try this place, I would recommend the Bloomington location!
