Meister's is a 5 star place because it's been a local gem for over 75 years and because the food quality never waivers and always hits the spot. My personal favorites are the Burgermeister (with cheese and bacon) and topped with fried onions, the mini corndogs and the mini tacos. Meister's has been a Stillwater constant since 1948, and while other locations have been opened by other family members over the years, there is only one original. Cute little bar in the neighborhood. The food is good and having German beer on tap is a real treat. I enjoyed the German burger (sauerkraut and Swiss cheese on it). We also had the fried fish. Both items were very tasty. The place was full so we ended up at a table for six. Three ladies came in and we invited them to sit with us. They were locals and gave us a really good history of all the Meister brothers and their restaurants. It was an enjoyable evening. read more

I've never heard of a place in America where you order a burger and it doesn't come with complimentary fries. My "Meisterburger" didn't even include an actual piece of bacon--hardly a tablespoon of bacon bits. The chicken sandwich tasted like something you'd get for free in an elementary school cafeteria, and somehow theirs would probably be better. Even a single slice of tomato and a sprig of lettuce costs an extra $2.50. The cheese curds were embarrassing tasted like a rolled-up ball of American cheese tossed in aged flour and fried. Overall, I would never come here for food. They should stick to serving alcohol, My experience at the Stillwater Meisters was a -12/10. If you're set on visiting a Meisters, go to the Scandia location instead. Their cheese curds are amazing, the menu is bigger, and the Reuben, burgers, and wings are all actually good. read more

Growing up in the area this was my very first visit to Meisters! I'm sad I didn't get there sooner! We started out with the cheese curds. They were good, but not my favorite. My hubby and I both got the cheese Meisterbuger - super delish! We also shared some hand-cut french fries. I'd put fries in the same category as the cheese curds. After an evening of cocktails and live music downtown Stillwater a friend and I stopped back in to Meister's who serves burgers and other menu options until midnight. Upon arriving we bellied up to the bar and ordered the Meister Burger and deep fried mushrooms and waited with some apprehension. I was a bit nervous cause I love this place. Our food arrived and it was like old times of when I was a kid. The food was PERFECT! The original cook was there and it was sooooo good! We have tried this restaurant 3xs to many. The food was ok..we had the fish, fries, coleslaw and salad the first time. Service was good but moreover we both ended up nauseous with diarrhea. We gave it a second try, ordered the same thing without coleslaw and STILL ended up nauseous with diarrhea. The third time, the service was terrible. We had a miserable waitress who wore platform chuck taylors and stepped on my SO foot under the table twice and didn't even get an apology. I ordered the Meister burger (which was 3/10 for taste) and fries. My SO got fish again and ended up getting diarrhea! This place is great. For a simple burger, super juicy, great bun, and sour Kraut! Fries are great! And, best of all they have deep fried cauliflower with cheese sauce. Love the carpet on the bathroom ceiling and door done tastefully. Kind of a dive and I mean that in a good way! When we walked into the Meister Bar and Grill my husband said "this is your kind of place". He was right! It is on the small side with a few tables, booths and a smallish bar. Our waitress was charming and adorable. Sorry, but I am a sucker for really good wait staff and she was definitely right up there. The menu is limited, but the two things we ordered were really great. Mine was a chicken sandwich - nice, flavorful, juicy chicken breast cooked to perfection. We split an order of fries which was also really good. Fresh from the fryer and glistening! OK, don't want to hear about how glistening is bad for you. If you want to know more here are my thoughts: Beer- They had a good choice of beers given the size of this place. I was impressed with the fact that they not only had craft beer on draft, but a good selection of craft beer. Many places just have that one or two to appease the craft drinker, but they actually made me think for a bit. Food- I had the Meister Burger. A very simple burger that delivers on that simple clean taste. I'm all for elevated pub food, or trying crazy new things, but sometimes you just want a burger and fries. I was surprised at how many people were in this place on an early Friday evening. Lots of groups of people and families and of course just some regular guys drinking at the bar. I wanted to sit at the bar but could not get a seat as it is rather small. Very old school tables and chairs. I loved my Paulaner beer on tap which was served frosty cold in a mug. It however was not part of the happy hour! What? My husbands college girl vodka cranberry however was so that was a win. He got the fish and it was a good malty crunch batter that actually sticks to the fish when bitten into. I had a cheeseburger and it was cooked to a good temperature. They need to find the salt and pepper shaker at this place when cooking! The meat was not seasoned at all. The fries had no salt nor did the Batter coating on the fish. I believe all the prices on the menu are 2.00 too much for what this is and the presentation. My cheeseburger is served on a grocery store cheap bun and just slapped on a small salad plate. Fries are not included in your meal and are an additional 3.00 for just half an order. They also will happily add lettuce and tomato for an additional charge but NOT included. I would go here again for a beer at the bar and although the food is not the worst I ever had I just feel ripped off for a neighborhood bar on the hill in Stillwater that seems more like an upscale dive bar than a fine and funky place in the cities. 20.00 a head for a beer and burger and fries at this place is just a bit much. read more

Meisters is a small neighborhood bar/restaurant located far enough away from yuppified "downtown" stillwater to be comfortable. The place reminds me of many small towns in wisconsin, where there's a bar/grill in the middle of the block in residential areas. I like the "burger meister" hamburger, lots of crispy chunks of bacon, cheese and fried or raw onions (ok, it's not health food, but it tastes great). The bbq ribs are good also. UPDATE! I've recently been informed that Meister's is no longer on the circuit frequented by roaming bands of brass and percussion musicians originating from the Concord area of Northern California. While this doesn't affect the quality of Meister brew and/or burgers, this is a travesty nonetheless, as it affects the overall ambiance during late July to August without said touring group on site. Place was super clean, burgers and fries top notch, waitress great and friendly and just enough kitsch to keep the decor interesting, i.e carpeted bathroom doors, memorabilia, etc. We were there for food, however. I recommend steering clear of the over-done, over-priced, scrawny, freezer burned tasting 1/2 chicken as well as the rock-hard cheese curds and strange mini tacos.
