Maine needed you, 33 Elmwood. Let's face it, 207: we spend a lot of time inside during the winter. It's easy to spend cold months at home (... getting drunk). 33 Elmwood is the social escape we all needed. It has something for everyone: Bocce! Bowling! Live music! Wine tastings! Good food! Great cocktails! And? It's family-friendly. And? The staff is unbelievably friendly. And? There's a ton of parking. And? The food and drink prices are reasonable. Came here for drinks and snacks with a friend, and we were genuinely blown away at how welcoming and laid-back the atmosphere was. Went to the bar and had really genial repartee with a bartender. He eventually left and the next bartender we had was just as friendly and engaging. And - as it got closer to closing time - the servers came to check on us and just say hi. It feels like a real community here. What we enjoyed: 1. That vegetarian and gluten-free items were clearly labeled on the menu (and the menu seems to constantly have new stuff)! 2. That the cocktail menu also changes, but you can still order things that were previously available (like the Iced Toddy - what a beautifully crafted drink)! 3. The Deep Fried Deviled Eggs. WHAT. WHERE HAVE THESE BEEN MY WHOLE LIFE? They are literally a deep fried deviled egg with a blob of sriracha. They bring the party, 33 Elmwood, so don't you dare get rid of them. Love it. Telling everyone about it. However... I don't see this as a destination during the summer. It's real market is going to be cabin fever season. It's also a bit frustrating that they close at 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, especially since they're not located near any other restaurant or bar. You're going to just 33 or you're going to end your night there. Not that that's a bad thing; the older I get, I think having this kind of forced cap on my evening actually is better for me in the long run. 33. You're for me!

For what this venue is, indoor entertainment, food and drink, it doesn't get any better in Maine from my experiences. I have been here a couple of times to play bocce ball with friends and family. We have enjoyed it every time! The staff that welcomes you when you walk in is friendly and helpful, explaining how things work :) The wait staff is energetic and enthusiastic! The menu looks creative and some day I will have something to eat while we are here. From what I have seen from other people's plates and tables, it looks decent too. The area near the bocce ball courts is neat and clean with comfy IKEA chairs to lounge in if you would like. While I complained at first from the bocce ball courts being a little uneven, i realized it actually mimics yards pretty well....no yard is actually perfectly flat! Genius! :) They don't have a huge selection of local beers, but the good news, they have local beer!! Bocce is $5 per person for an hour Also - I am alllll about a parking lot. There is a parking lot!! :) Yay! The live music was great on Saturday night, however, when it is crowded, there is a lot of chatter, a lot of music and the large facility makes it pretty loud in there. But it is FUN in here! I can't wait to return to bowl and eat and drink and bocce....so many options! I highly recommend this place.

So, this review is on the whole experience here (now that I've been twice). The bowling (big balls) is great; the shoes are new, not old and stinky; the lanes and scoring work as they are supposed to... no complaints there. The 1-star deduction is for the food. The first time we went it was a quiet Tuesday night. We shared some of their lush popcorn at the bar before we moved to the bowling alley. Once there we ordered more food. I had a salad which was small, but so was the price, so far so good. I added chicken to it for $4 and got 3 small slivers... hmmm... bit stingy I thought. Today (busy Sunday) the food was shocking. Everything should be fresh off the grill - so many people to serve (you would think)! I had a pulled pork sandwich that would make a living pig blush. The meat was sparse and what there was was as tough as old boots - like it had gone cold but kept in a warmer for hours (and hours). The sweet potato chips were so salty I could not eat more than one without consuming my daily sodium allowance. I asked for some regular fries as a replacement and they too were piled with salt (that I wiped off each one before I ate it). Who on earth is over-salting everything in the kitchen?? I like the over all entertainment value here so will probably return, but if I eat here again will stick to things on the menu that I know are good.

33 Elmwood is a great place! Their basic burgers, fries, and salads are surprisingly delicious (and very affordable compared to Portland). They offer a veggie burger as well, which is a plus. Would definitely recommend visiting, especially for the outdoor patio area.

I just love everything about this place! The food is absolutely delicious. The prices can be a bit steep. I'd recommend it more for an adult outing, but I promise every bite will be worth it. It's spacious, inviting, and entertaining. This is the perfect place to meet up with a group. There's cornhole, bocce, and both candlepin and 10 pin bowing. They even have an event room that can be rented out for functions, if you'd like a more private party setting.

First time visiting and we were not disappointed! Where to begin... Food - Definitely the highlight of the visit! Great variety of choices and most items are made from scratch in-house. It definitely shows in the quality of food coming out of the kitchen. Some reviews mention the food being expensive, but I think it's more than reasonable considering the quality. Had the burnt ends (unbelievably delicious) and pretzel sticks (soft and warm) appetizers. The wife had the white pizza and I had the Cuban sandwich (as good of a Cuban you'll find anywhere). Both were entirely homemade and we both enjoyed all of the food very much. Service - Everyone we interacted with was very friendly and helpful. It was a warm and welcoming environment. Our server was extremely helpful with recommendations and was attentive during our visit. Games - We played Bocce and Candlepin. We hadn't played candlepin in a long time and loved it! Games are games, so how can you not have fun! The shoes are new and clean, and the servers pay close attention for food and drink orders while you play. Overall - The food was the highlight for us, but then again, we're suckers for scratch made. If you like homemade meals and fun, you can't go wrong. We'll definitely be back!

33 Elmwood has some potential to be the next biggest hotspot off the beaten path. It can be a good place to catch up with friends, spend family time, or grab a bite to eat. The good--Bocce, corn hole, bowling, food and drinks all in one. Who would have ever thought? Not to mention, bocce and corn hole are $5 an hour per person. The iffy--We went on a Sunday afternoon. It was relatively quiet, so we got a bocce lane immediately. There was a waitress walking around who was super kind. We ordered a few glasses of water and a soda. When our time was up, it was almost impossible to find her to pay our bill. The needs improvement--We got there at 2:10pm. We paid for an hour for 5 people. At 3pm the girl from the front desk comes down and tells us that our time expired at 3pm and the next group was waiting for our lane. I kindly explained that we didn't arrive until 3:10pm and we only had 2 more throws until our game was over. She allowed us to finish. There was a party going on on two lanes and there was one free lane next to us. Is this normal protocol that you don't get a full hour if you get there in between :00 and :30 or :30 and :00? In our hour, we were not able to get through a full game of bocce, and we moved pretty quickly through our throws. Next time we come here, I would definitely either get 2 lanes or pay for 2 hours so we don't feel rushed.

SO.MUCH.YES! 33 Elmwood is doing it all right in the name of all things millennial. Bocce ball/cornhole field, bowling, bar with good selection of beers and cocktails, super friendly staff, good food, lots of space, and family friendly - it's seriously fun for all. Food favorites: - brussel sprouts - mac & cheese - Rueben sandwich Won't be ordering again: - fettuccini Alfredo (suuuuuper watery, our waitress actually noticed that we hadn't eaten half of it and offered to take it off our tab!) - big Mac pizza (i think they forgot to add the big Mac sauce...) I think the real hit for this place, is it's super fun and chill atmosphere. It's a place for adults to let loose and play games and have fun- whether it be with friends or with family. They should really consider keeping this place open late on the weekends, I think they could pull a lot of people in with late night bowling, bocce, and cornhole. Really excited for this place. It's definitely on my radar of "it" places here in Maine!!

33 Elmwood is A-OK. It is a bit loud. We were going to sit in the bar but could not hear each other talk so we switched to the dining area and it's a bit better but still a very loud restaurant. I got the buffalo wings and they were delicious. It's definitely a good spot for families to enjoy an evening bowling & eating. Not sure if I would rush back if I was not going to bowl.

I just left what should be the "Next Big Thing" around Portland. Whoever created this space did it right. "What is 33 Elmwood?" you may be asking yourself... Well it is everything you want it to be and more. Candlepin bowling, bocce (aka lawn bowling), corn hole, local drafts, fresh food, and PHENOMENAL service is the name of their game. A group of us strolled into "33" on a Sunday afternoon. We were greeted by a cheerful hostess who looked at our confused faces and said "Hello. Welcome, how can I help you? Will you be playing a game today or eating?" We looked confused because of the size of this establishment. It must easily sit 150 people between the restaurant and bar area. We decided to eat first, then play. Upon being seated, our server Matthew, was there within a minute to get our drink order and answer all of our questions. "How long have you been open?" - 3 weeks. "Who is Tod?" - He invented the new mechanism for candlepin bowling . He is also a cool older gentleman who likes burgers. "Will you have karaoke just for us?" - Sure! It would be a great thing to do in the lounge... Yes, we were those annoying guests who asked about 150 questions. The place was such a drastic change from the flea market that used to be located here, that we need to know more. So Matthew sent over Sergio, the manager. Sergio is from Northern Italy and he regaled us with historic details from the region. He answered our additional questions and made us feel welcome back any time! But enough about the service.. Beers are local and run 6-8$ a pint. They have an extensive wine list and craft made cocktails (10-14$). Sandwiches run 8-14$, normal for Portland, and come with house made everything. Dinners are 14-20$. A few folks got a shrimp sandwich on a steam bun. The sandwich was ok, the best thing about it was the Korean BBQ sauce. I'm not sure if it would be my go to food here, it lacked something with the way the shrimp was cooked... I wanted them seared... or shredded... or, I don't know, I just wanted them a different way. We also had a delicious butternut squash pasta with a balsamic reduction. The pasta was homemade and hearty. I liked this dish and would order it again. I need to further investigate the food situation here, because everything was good, but I want to crave something on their menu intensely. My friend, a pescatarian, wanted more veggie options (maybe a tempeh reuben?), but as a meat eater, I was just fine. We sat for a few hours, laughing, acting like idiots, and then a few of us traveled to the bocce area. Bocce is 5$ per person per hour. We had a great time chatting and playing. Lane 3 is not level, but we made due by banking our shots off the rails. We decided this was a great place to relax and have a fun Sunday afternoon. Overall, I was more than pleased by this spot. Its a great middle ground for those of us who live in the Lakes Region and I think between 33 Elmwood and Lenny's the urban sprawl is apparent in the outskirts of Portland AND much needed for the Up and Coming edges of the Greater Portland area. Great job and I can't wait for the final stages of the lounge and the candle pin lanes. This gal is gonna be a regular here!

It was the Friday night after Thanksgiving and I was looking for a hassle free dinner spot for 12 people with plenty of easy parking. I knew 33 Elmwood had just opened and figured we would try it out. I called and made an reservation for 6:30. When we arrived, our table was ready for us and upon entering the dining room, it looked like a lot of other people were looking for the same thing I was. On the other hand, this is a beautiful, new spacious restaurant/bowling alley/bocce court/bar, and there was plenty of room for everyone! With 12 people ordering apps and dinner, I was able to sample/see a whole lot of the menu. Apps/snacks: The meatballs were all good. Generous amount for $7. My favorite were the Moroccan lamb, but other loved the Korean BBQ Roasted brussels. Very good. Soft pretzel. Very good, wished it had been bigger. Fried deviled eggs. Avoid. Something about the preparation made the egg white taste like flattened wet rubber. Not good and I LOVE deviled eggs! Mains: I personally ordered the coconut shrimp steam bun, which was tasty, I also sampled the hangar steak which was exceptional (I will definitely get that next time!) I also heard big positives about the burger and the Rachel sandwich The two people sitting next to me ordered the grilled cheese, they seemed to like it but spent a lot of time talking through why they liked it, the way some people do when they are not sure if they like something. Three people ordered desserts: The tiramisu: Good but nothing like any Tiramisu I have ever had. I think 33 Elmwood has created a reduxmisu, which is cool, but maybe call it something else so people don't have one kind of thing in mind. The lemon merengue pie: Lemon pie part good, yet almost no merengue. A TINY artisinal dollop. Disappointing for merengue lovers! The fried dough: Small pieces of fried dough for dipping. Good idea, too small and not enough dip. Our waiter and the staff in general were super friendly and attentive. After all the feasting, the best part of the night was a family Bocce game. Super fun, lots of laughs! So nice to have a spot with great food AND fun games that works for the older crowd. I will absolutely, definitely be back and recommend you check 33 Elmwood out.
