I went in to redesign my original wedding ring. I brought precious marquee diamonds from my mother's wedding ring and various other diamonds that I had. I went several times to attempt to design a ring and Diane kept asking what do you want, this or that, in a really aggressive tone. I went back several times and no attempt of any kind on her part was ever made to help me design or create a ring. When I decided I'd had enough my husband, who works dt stopped in to pick up what I had left with her. Long story short, she kept my mom's stones! When I realized they weren't in my possession, I went back to get them and she denied ever having them. Diane is dishonest and not trustworthy. Don't leave any precious valuables with her cuz you likely will not have them returned. read more

I walked in on Thursday and asked about resizing a ring and was told the jeweler would quote me. Diane took my information while I was sized, they kept the ring and I was told I would be called with a quote. Saturday morning I was called and quoted $620 to which I immediately declined because the ring was bought for $500 two years ago. On Saturday afternoon I went to go pickup the ring. After looking through the drawers, Diane made a phone call and told me the jeweler needed to speak with me. I asked to grab my ring and she did not give it to me. I repeated that I wanted my ring back and Diane proceeded to slam the ring down on the glass counter so I very quickly left because she seemed angry. I had planned to stay to talk to the jeweler but that was a very weird experience and an odd outburst from Diane. read more

After a lot of unanswered calls and emails I ended up buying my band off of Etsy (same band, half the price and got it in 48 hours). My hubby got his band from her after chasing her staff via calls and emails for weeks. We really wanted to support a local small business but I can see after reading all of the reviews over the last 10 years the problems are still the same - poor staffing, lack of good customer service/communication, a lot of excuses. read more

My sister and I stumbled across this shop by accident and it was a good thing we did. Their master jeweler knew exactly how to add another watchband link to the high-end watch we brought in and saved the band from being wrecked by some ham-handed flunky who didn't know what they were doing. Come to find out the band had to be soaked in acetone, in order to loosen the pins holding the links together. Yes, it took a few phone calls and a couple of emails, but in the end the job was done right. Maybe it's an East Coast thing, but we really hit it off with Diane Garmendia. read more

Just like the other one-star reviews. Our experiences at 33 Jewels were terrible. Numerous unanswered phone calls, month after month of waiting, excuse after excuse. The experience was exhausting to say the least. At one point, I felt like I was begging for the engagement ring to be delivered before our ceremony. I bought the engagement in 2017, and 4 years later, we found a crack in the diamond not even using a microscope.I have attached a picture of the diamond along with this post. I am no diamond expert, but I did not expect this to happen, especially considering it's only been four years. read more

I had another wonderful experience at 33 Jewels. I bought a necklace that was too dainty for my lifestyle and it snapped the next day. When I brought it back, Diane gave me a full credit towards a much stronger necklace that is much more suited to my outdoorsy life. I scheduled an appointment with Diane for a custom wedding band for my fiancé and the staff there had initially been very helpful. But through the course of a few months we have not heard back once. I have called and gone in to the store and always been met with the response, "we have just been so busy right now." The store has been completely unprofessional and left us out to dry. I read your reply. My suggestions: Don't tell customers how many appointments you have waiting and how busy/understaffed you are. It does not install confidence. If it's 1 hour needed, or 10 that is irrelevant when shopping for something this special. Lastly, be completely transparent with all business transactions including giving a written estimate for any jewelry custom ordered. Communicate clearly. RETURN phone calls. Above and Beyond... It's not often I find myself up in Santa Barbara, let alone a reason to walk into a jewelry store. This was one elegantly cozy place. Was just looking out side of their windows at the jewelry, watches and knives on display and was instantly drawn in by the unscratched itch to see more. I was greeted right away by the owner Diane. I told her right away I wasn't interested in buying, just admiring. That didn't deter her from being hospitable the entire time and extremely friendly. Never got back to me. Never followed up. My stones were sitting in their safe for months. When I called and tried to schedule a time to come pick them up, they ghosted me again. Diane, Aimee, and Lee all made me feel extremely comfortable, understood, and at ease. She went to great lengths to get me the bands I wanted- she had one custom made by Lee to match the "rustic-glam" look I was going for, and the other she had her jeweler in Europe fashion me a custom ring as well! One weekend, after trying on dozens of rings at other downtown shops (and feeling uninspired by them, worried by how expensive they were, and unable to even articulate what I was looking for), our last stop of the day was 33 Jewels. Diane was so welcoming and friendly. Before she pulled out any rings, she invited us (my fiancee, her brother, and I) to sit, gave us water to drink and truffles to eat (yum), and asked us insightful questions to get a sense of our personalities and what we were looking for. We felt immediately comfortable chatting and laughing with her. We also loved the idea of supporting a woman-owned business in our town - we really noticed the difference in how she spoke to us about the practicality of wearing jewelry and her general approach to engagement rings. After chatting for a few minutes, she pulled out her first ring, and all three of us said "oh wow." I immediately felt like that was my ring that she was holding - it was perfect for me. I was so attached to it that I had a hard time even trying on the other rings she had planned on showing us! And it was also in our price range! They resized it for us and cleaned it up, and now I've been wearing it for a few months and am only growing more obsessed. Mr & I saw a lovely art deco pendant in the windows of 33 Jewels & decided to go in & check it out. Advised it could be a brooch or a pendant, I quickly discovered it was not a pendant at all. They had placed a chain through the pin but there wasn't a specific pendant loop nor were there stabilizing brackets, so it kept flopping to the side when modeled on a chain.......but the brooch itself was exquisite Inquired about price & advised they had just received the piece, so the price was firm at the time - which led me to believe they might be open to negotiation - but we never got that far When we started asking questions about whether this was a period piece or in the "style-of", this is where things started going downhill.....we got the feeling this was an insult because from then on, the answers to our questions were short & curt Additional questions about any hallmarks or makers marks were likewise blown off & finally we were told that the Estate person was on vacation so they'd have to get back to us. Well, we really liked the brooch so we ignored the curtness & provided our info in the hopes to learn more about the piece.....you see where this is going It's now been 4 weeks and we have had no follow up......and I'm certainly not going to beg anyone to purchase a piece. All worked out cept that they never emailed me the estimate of a ring for me and the weird conversation that I had with Judy a week prior to getting the ring... So happy with our experience here!! Diane was amazing, and Lee we know personally as an amazing jeweler. We walked in after going to Bryant & Sons and being extremely disappointed not to have found tungsten metal and having no other options appealing to my fiance for a men's wedding band. In we walk and Diane greets us smiling, and even though we didn't make an appointment immediately explains she doesn't carry tungsten either because it shatters and doesn't want that for her shop (yikes!). Diane and Matt are wonderful to work with. I originally came in a year or so ago to get a battery replaced in my Tag. They got it done right away and when I picked it up they explained that it actually had two batteries one for the time keeping and one for the complications. For the first time in years all the dials worked normally. When it was time to buy an engagement ring I decided to give them a shot. Nope. My now husband bought my engagement ring from 33 Jewels. The one star is for their extremely unorganized business practice. They under quoted him on the price of my ring (their fault) and then when we took my ring back to get sized they charged us $125 on a normally complimentary service because "we got a discount on the ring". When we received my ring back from sizing, my diamond was loose and prongs and setting were completely off center and crooked. It definitely did not feel like the ring that I was purposed to with. We obviously did not go back to them to purchase our wedding bands. read more

No "how can I help you the second you walk in", no guards, no credit checks, just truffles and cute bottles of water and cozy warm Diane and Matt who ask how your day was and ultimately love to hear about your story of what brought you to go shopping or if it's just peeking that's cool with her too. Her taste in jewelry is unique and not a mass produced looking item in the house. My husband got an Alishan wedding band and I have an eternity motif band. She told me the story of the jewelers and we loved the extra touch. One ring was $700 and one was $2k, I ultimately loved both and chose the latter but she didn't push me toward one or the other. UPDATE: We later contacted the ring manufacturer, Prisma-Express (in Los Angeles), who Diane told us had done the ring resizing, because I wanted to complain about the damage done to the ring during the resizing process, and to see if they'd re-cast the ring to fix the problem -- in addition to there being sanding marks around the outside of the ring, in the last re-sizing (before we gave up in disgust) whoever did the work had managed to sand down 3 of the 4 outside prongs flat (the other prongs have a nice rounded top). Fixing the sanding marks should be easy, but I'm guessing the prongs can't be fixed. I don't understand what kind of incompetence can lead to that kind of mistake, since I've been told by another jewelery manufacturer I met recently that resizing is straightforward and quite simple. Anyway, Prisma's Danny Rubenstein told me that he contacted 33 Jewels to ask what happened (since he hadn't done the resizing, apparently), and was told that Diane had contracted a local Santa Barbara company to do the resizing, and that since the ring had been modified after it left Prisma, their satisfaction guarantee was voided. This means that Diane lied to us about where the work was done, and is solely responsible for ruining the ring we purchased from her. It also explains why the ring was too big when we first got it -- she didn't want to pay to have it resized to the size we ordered (even though that was the only thing she actually had to do for us other than writing out the appraisal), so she tried to just pass it off to us without fulfilling the order properly. Though she initially comes off as being very charming and trustworthy (why we went with her in the first place), Diane Garmendia cannot be trusted. I recommend avoiding 33 Jewels at all costs, and telling your friends that it is the worst possible place to buy jewelry, to save them from the grief we went through. I usually love small personally-owned shops, but 33 Jewels lied to us, gave us incredibly crappy service, was totally insulting to us and ultimately sold us a damaged ring, which is completely unforgivable. read more

I tried to order custom bridesmaid jewelry through the store and had to call and email Diane repeatedly in order to get a response. It took months to finally have a meeting and have the jewelry designed, but she never followed through by ordering the materials. I was constantly given excuses as to why it was taking longer than planned, but was assured it would be done in time. I've been married for 3 weeks now and still haven't heard anything from Diane.
