And then after they told me they couldn't do the job, I found an hour later that my USB chip for my mouse was gone. I'll give them credit, they drove 20 minutes to drop off the chip and were apologetic throughout the process. However, this does not take away from the fact that I felt that my experience was quite the headache and I had the increasing perception that the company lacked competence. Again, maybe I just had an unlucky experience, but personally I would not recommend this shop.

By comparison, there is a computer repair place between Wal Mart and Fry's at Warner & Alma School. Those guys are horrible. They tried ripping me off on a used power cord. They charged some poor guy $180 to reload Windows while I was there, and add a virus protection program, which could have been downloaded for free from Cnet. Those guys are rude there too, unbelievably rude, so never go there. As for Bits and Bytes at Alma & Elliot, these guys have undercharged me many times. They've fixed problems for me in a short amount of time, and have several times gotten my laptop back to me fixed by the next day. I had some exams coming up at ASU and these guys saved my ass bigtime when I had gotten a replacement laptop and needed it fixed. The guys there know everything and anything about software programs, different kinds of components, how to quickly diagnose things that freeze up or slow up your computer. You can take an older computer to them and they can speed it up like it is new, it is amazing. If you go to Geek Squad, or the Apple repair place, or Fry's Electronics, they always start off by charging you an obscene amount of money to diagnose your computer, then they make up things you need that you can just download for free from Cnet. This Bits & Bytes is independently owned, and they do lots of different things, even help companies with cyber security, so they don't only make their money off of computer repairs. This reduces their motivation to rip people off, so they don't do it. When you walk in you see a few laptops that are for sale that are used that they have fixed up, and they are always great deals. But that's all you see. They don't have a bunch of junk everywhere trying to sell you useless crap. Everything about what they do is straightforward and honest and very very simple. These guys have never ever let me down. I even called them after I screwed something up on my laptop, and they told me over the phone what to look for to fix it, and I did. They have been that cool with their service. In fact, it is that kind of service that you literally never get anywhere unless it is an independently owned place, and you're dealing with honest people who really enjoy what they do. It is very rare. Since my first visit there over a year ago, I have been there a few times. I had my sister go there and she's been back there a few times, and has sent her friends there. One of my buddies, Nick, who is a physics major who had an exam coming up, and who is also pretty good with computers himself, ended up running into some kind of memory problem that froze up his system. I sent him to Bits & Bytes and these guys literally fixed his computer that day and he was able to get his computer back before his exam and finish his work. They even walked him through how his virus program went crazy and started replicating files or something, and they showed him how to fix it. They didn't even charge him for anything except I think $43 for the little bit of time it took them to fix it. He was pretty impressed and they saved his ass just like they did mine. I will never go anywhere else. This is the only place you should take your computer equipment if you want honest and speed and great service, but don't want to ripped off.

Are you worried it's gonna take ages to get in to see them?! Are you worried about making the mortgage payment AND paying for the computer repair. So if those are your concerns you should take your trust issues and not walk but RUN to go see Tom. He has been helping me out of sticky computer situations for probably a decade now - I trust him implicitly and he will not only go the extra mile but will straight up tell you when you passed the last mile and it's time to just give up. And mourn the loss - of data or documents or computer - with you. Not enough stars to rate Tom, he is one of the good guys. He was able to skillfully and brilliantly secure the data and retrieve my video files for my documentary project. Recently, I dropped a hard drive in an airport and it was damaged beyond repair. I took it to Tom in the slim chance that he could produce magic. Unfortunately, due to my negligence, it was unrepairable. Tom was able to verify that and did't even charge me. While I do some updates myself like a power unit, memory, and GPU; when I have to deal with HDs and…read morea Motherboard I like to have a professional do it to make sure no data is lost and no conflict with Windows arises as I have seen some funny things arise during updates. My new GPU was slightly too large for the case I had so it was time to move things over to a new case. Jay was on site within an hour to pickup the old tower and the new case as well as the new GPU. The new case had only so much space for my old HDs as it was better suited to SSD drives. It also did not have space for a disc drive so I opted to just go with our external drive when needed. Jay went over all the HD options and I decided to get a new SSD set and make the jump a bit sooner than planned. I had the new set sent directly to him and he had my data moved over. Usually when I get a PC back after updates there is work to do in order to get back games, drivers, contacts, links, or e-mails. This was not the case as the system was ready go to the moment I fired it up and the speed increase of the SSD was very clear to see. The communication along the way was great and the price was very reasonable. Whenever we need work on our systems beyond our normal updates; we go to Hart as we get fast and quality service at a good price.
