Matt and the guys at 3rd Gen completed the remodel of our basement in Madison, including the construction of a bedroom, new bathroom, and egress window in the spring of 2019. The process was smooth and professional from start to finish. They came up with blueprints of the design, and modified it after I changed my mind and decided to build out the bathroom bigger than planned and add a shower. 3rd Gen used subcontractors for plumbing and HVAC, and the guys they hired were also exceptional and did fantastic work. They also took care of all of the permitting for the city so we didn't have to worry about any of that. Communication was top notch during the whole project, and what impressed us the most was Matt's willingness to come back several months after the remodel was finished to repair a couple of small defects which I noticed after some initial wear and tear on the space. He came by, fixed the problem without extra cost, and genuinely wanted to make sure we were happy with the final project. We had them do floors and painting of the entire interior. Painting: good price but the attention to detail was horrendous. Instead of asking, they just assume. So only get them if you are ready to watch them like a hawk and are fine with price over quality. In the contract it states "daily check-ins." This means you will have to call them every few days. For me, it drives me crazy that every time I brush my teeth I see the old blue paint behind the toilet because they did such a sub par job. Long story short, we gave this company a lot of money and then had to spend weekends fixing it. Floors: do not go with them. Period. The guy who did our carpet had never done it by himself before. They made him use his own tools he happened to have from when he worked at a big box store. The wood floors are not even kind of level. read more

Finding the right company to paint your house can be intimidating. There are so many companies, and it's hard to know which are genuine and which will be a nightmare. In that respect, I hit the jackpot with 3rd Generation. Matt and his crew were talented, smart, hard-working, detail-oriented and fun to have around. At one point during the project, Matt said it really just comes down to doing what you said you would do and doing it well. He was right, and that's exactly what he did. 3rd Gen did an absolutely fantastic job for me, and there is no way I could recommend the company highly enough. Our house exterior trim needed repair and painting. Matt's expertise in home repair pointed out several areas that were not addressed by other contractors. 3rd Gen's prep work (extensive power washing, scrapping, detailed caulking) was excellent. Matt helped us find the perfect exterior trim color by painting six sample colors on our house. Crews began work two weeks after contracts were signed arriving promptly each morning. Great care was taken to protect our recent landscaping and new deck. Site clean up was performed daily as was a walk through of the day's work. Minor touch up work was promptly addressed. Matt and his crew had two daunting tasks: ripping out a monster-sized, rotting deck and then rebuilding it; and proving that there are contractors who show up when they say they will and do efficient, beautiful work. They more than succeeded. They understood how wary we were thanks to the horrible guy we worked with previously, very graciously accommodated our extra precautionary requests, and made sure to communicate with us every step of the way. We did a full remodel of two bedrooms -- tearing out old plaster and insulation and adding new closets, with new insulation, drywall, painting and electrical. The estimate was right on target. There were a few delays that were not caused by 3rd Gen, but Matt was always in contact with us and kept us up to date on when various parts of the project would be completed.
