Dang... yeah 3rd Street Tavern is legit. The didn't do anything wrong when I ate lunch there. The service was great specifically Mandie who was so nice and helpful. The atmosphere was very nice and made the restaurant feel much fancier than a 'tavern' usually does. I ordered the 3rd Street Bacon Cheeseburger and it was delicious. I put the homemade sweet BBQ on it and it made it even better. My Dad got the Chicken Ranch Rollup and couldn't stop raving about it. He said it was one of the best Chicken sandwiches he's had. So I'd say we were pretty satisfied. This place had easy street side parking. The menu had decent options and the atmosphere was interesting to look around. I ordered a beef brisket sandwich was rather dry, but the bun was good. I had a side of coleslaw, but it was average. The waitress didn't refill our water. We were there in a large group, so the company was good. I liked that the bathrooms used hand towels as an option instead of paper towels to help with sustainability. Overall, it was a decent place. I had a mixed experience with the food but overall I rate them a solid 3.5 stars. APPETIZERS: Okay...the appetizers were off the hook phenomenal! The bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers were incredible, the fried pickle spears were very good, and the smoked beef tips were awesome. ENTREES: Our entrees were kinda lame. My friend's chicken caesar salad had wilted lettuce and microscopic amounts of parmesan cheese. Not impressed. My juicy lucy had a small amount of watery cheese that immediately squished out the side and onto my plate like a giant booger. And my coleslaw was dry, little more than tasteless shredded cabbage. Lame. SERVER: Our server was great - A+. I also met one of the managers, a super nice dude. DECOR: The restaurant is very beautiful and clean with nice steam-punk industrial type accents. PRICE: I was a little surprised by the steep Twin Cities type prices but they weren't too out of line, especially if they use high quality ingredients (which I have no idea). Despite our lame entrees, I'm rating them 3.5 stars because the apps were incredibly good. And the service was great. Stopped in for dinner on a Saturday evening and the place was poppin. We grabbed an open spot at the bar and we're serviced right away. I had the brisket grilled cheese melt and my friend had the lone star, both were very tasty! The only complaint is the fries were a little cold and soft. The restaurant was clean and had a good vibe. Had dinner here and we were so impressed! We had the very fresh guacamole and the fried pickle spears as apps. Perfection! My husband and son shared the smoked meat platter and they loved it! My wife and I have traveled a lot, and have enjoyed finding great places to eat all over the country. I ordered the lone star brisket sandwich and about halfway through leaned over to my wife and said this is one of the best sandwich experiences of my life. This place has some great options and I liked the atmosphere. There food was good. However the prices keep this place just a 3 for me. Old fashions ., 10 bucks, smoked wings appetizer 14 bucks. Good but not great. Portions were fine. Our bill for 2 meals, wings appetizer, 3 old fashions . Just under $100.00 on happy hour. Patrick's on third for same would have been half that. Nice place, clean, food is good, not great. but it's just to expensive to be a place that I would make a regular place. If prices or at least happy hour specials were better it would be a solid 4 star in my book. read more

Wow. Yum. This is the kind of place that will make St. Peter an intentional destination for me. A little pricey, so not like once a week though! Being newbies, we had to try their smoked wings, got Jamaican jerk. Soooo good (but $14...). I got the wild Alaskan salmon. One of the best prepared salmons I've ever had. Hubby got brisket sandwich--not overly impressed. Good, but wouldn't get again. Mixologists definitely knew what they were doing--some of the best old fashioneds and manhattans we've ever had. Excellent place! Love the atmosphere and the look of this place. Right down the hill from Gustavus Adolphus College and it is delicious! We went for brunch on St. Patrick's day and loved the brunch menu. Our party was 10 people and they served us wonderfully, just as they would if you had a party of 2. Fast and friendly service, and delicious food and drinks. They have bottomless mimosas, bloodies and more! I got the breakfast flatbread (comes with syrup) - would recommend. Had a really great meal with great prices! I had the chicken Cesar salad and it was $12. My boys both got the kids cheese burgers. They got a meal, a side and a drink for $7. Probably the best value we have seen in a while. My wife got the grilled cheese with brisket. She loved her meal and it was a good portion size. I ordered the Cajun Alfredo and it was super yummy. The only thing was as I started eating it, the sauce separated and left a pool of butter/oil in my bowl which wasn't super pleasant. Otherwise the meal was awesome. My dad got the chicken sandwich with fries, both were AWESOME. read more

We stopped on our way through town as we love BBQ. We ordered a full rack of ribs and sides. When the rack of ribs came to the table they were uncut and super hot to touch. I asked the waitress to cut them up and she replied "isn't your knife sharp?" I looked at her and said they were hot "don't you have a big knife in back to slice them?" And she replied "No,we don't." Again I said they were too hot to slice. And then she told me "You can go back in the kitchen and slice them if you want." I don't think I was being rude by asking her to slice the ribs, especially since they were hot to touch. They should have big knives back in the kitchen to slice their many selections of meat. I also had my 82 year old mother along who used to run her own BBQ restaurant, John Hardy's BBQ in Mankato. I was about to get up and go in the kitchen and slice them myself. Actually, my mother was, as she commented "I used to have to do that myself all the time" Holiday weekend and short staffed- this waitress was friendly enough and efficient- but she really should consider her responses to paying customers. We all felt insulted and embarrassed by her responses to a simple polite request which wasn't out of reach for her to accommodate. The restaurant wasn't full or super busy at that time. Positives- the ribs were delicious with good smoke flavor. We will be back again when we drive through. We don't want to let this uncomfortable interaction with the waitress get in the way of enjoying to wonderful BBQ 3rd Street has. read more

We stopped for a late lunch on a golden late-September afternoon. Well decorated and cheery, we couldn't stay inside. We seated ourselves on the spacious sunlit patio and order. The service was friendly and attentive. The ribs were tasty and tender. After making a reservation 6 days in advance, we arrive with our party of 7 (2 of which are young children), for them to tell us they "can't find our reservation". After 45 minutes of "looking" and trying to "make something work" we were told they could seat us outdoors (in 55 degree weather, with two young children), or they had nothing for us and there's nothing they could do. Upon further research, there were nearly 7 open tables in the dining room, none of which had reserved signs. The manager even had the audacity to question if I had mistakenly called Patrick's on Third, instead of 3rd Street to make the reservation, and it took me showing her my recent calls in my cell phone for her to believe me. Obvious mismanagement, poor customer service, and blatant disorganization by almost the entire staff. My family and I have been here many times before, and have enjoyed many of the Person family's restaurants, but we unfortunately will not be returning to any of them. I really want to like 3rd Street Tavern, we've been there 7 or 8 times since they have opened, I am just really underwhelmed every time I go. The food is fine, I just find the menu kind of meh. Space is nice but loud, really loud, it is difficult to have a conversation in the dining room if they are full. Did have lunch there yesterday, the wings were some of the better ones that I have had, I hate slimy wings and these were not slimy. It is not a bad place, the service has been fine (except for one time we nearly got up and left, our server didn't come to our table until we have been there for 14 minutes), the food is adequate and I am sure that I will go back, it is just not at the top of my list of places that I want to go too. read more

I'm not sure how to start this review because the food was so so good! I had the smoked chicken with scalloped potatoes and cornbread. The smoked chicken had a dry rub on it that complimented the smoky, tender, and perfectly done meat. The potatoes were well done and very flavorful. The cornbread came with a delicious honey butter. This was the perfect meal and I will be returning next year. I read several reviews about the wait. We waited ten minutes with our table of eight. The wait room is large, has high top tables, and popcorn. In addition, the general manager invited us to sit at the bar while we waited. If you are complaining about the wait at Third Street Tavern, perhaps it's not the tavern that is the problem, perhaps it is you. Did I mention that I live in New York City and have access to just about any dish in the world. Also, I spent all fall in Texas and did not find a barbecue joint as epic as this place. If you are anywhere within 50 miles, you should probably drop what you are doing and drive to St. Peter, MN. read more

YUM. I came here around 5:30 on a weeknight for some dinner while in town. It was very quiet when I came in, but by the time I left it was almost full. I ordered the salmon with corn bread and the baked beans. The salmon was really good and also a nice portion; it wasn't some dinky piece of fish you would normally get. The cornbread came in muffin form and was delicious! I love cornbread, but some restaurants really screw it up. This was not the case with 3rd Street Tavern. The baked beans were good and a very large portion. The service was great, the bartender was really nice. I also had the Pineapple Daiquiri, which was.. okay. Not super awesome but still pretty good. If I ever find myself in St. Peter again, I will definitely be going back to 3rd Street Tavern! read more

Love Third Street Tavern. They have some of the best, if not the best, food around. My to-go-to is the Mac-and-cheese, but also loved their meat platter. Make sure to try their bacon appetizer. Wash it all down with an excellent cocktail. read more

Shut up. That's what I said, shut up! First of all, the smoked wings... insane. I ordered the jamaican jerk which comes as a dry rub. Amazing. Tender not dried out & not over smoked & the jerk isn't hot at all, full of flavor with a slight kick. Next the 3rd Street Queso. Not your ordinary queso. It's got smoked pulled chicken in it, pico, a sprinkle of hot sauce & ranch with melted cheese sauce not squeeze cheese. The chips are the thin restaurant style tortilla chips & come warm. For the entree I ordered the platter so I could taste it all... ok & have leftovers at home lol! 1/2 slab comes dry rubbed not drowning in sauce. Pulled pork nice n smoky, a couple burnt ends but tender. My brisket was a lil dry but that can be hit or miss, I ain't mad! Smoked link... what is that flavor?! Not your off the shelf smoked sausage, very good. The cornbread is a muffin that tastes like it came from a bakery, that's goin home with me! 2 extra success come with it, i got the mac n cheese & the baked beans. Pretty typical fare for a BBQ joint. The bbq sauces on the table are pretty decent, I'm a spicy sweet sauce gal & they delivered. I've been wanting to stop in for awhile now, sooo glad I did! I'm surprised so many people complain about the prices here, because I feel like they're very fair for the quality of food. We always get generous portions and very tasty entrees. My boyfriend loves their pulled pork and I'm a big fan of their fries. I love that they offer online ordering and delivery now, especially since we're trying to avoid public places. We do love the actual restaurant; the decor is very cool, the patio is adorable, and their cocktails are delicious. My one gripe is that service has been inattentive in the past despite it not being particularly busy, but it's also been a while since we've dined in, so hopefully that's improved.
