The Memphis Combo Platter. It was brisket, pulled pork, and hot link piled together. Came with a cornbread muffin top and 1 side!

From the moment you walk in, the smell of good food and BBQ smoke hits you. Absolutely divine! The menu isn't crazy big, which is great since that means they can focus! All of the food we got was hot and very fresh tasting. A good selection of sauces available on the table too. You can see the wood pile right inside the store, as well as the smokers, they have an open view kitchen, so you can see the pitmasters working on the food. Very fun to watch! If you love BBQ, this place is definitely worth it to check out. Be warned, you WILL leave smelling like BBQ...which is NOT a bad thing!

The food was amazing the portions were large and filling. The decor was of what you'd expect it a strip mall restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful. The menu contains numerous things to choice from I will be back.

    (Half eaten) BBQ Soul Bowl

This place slaps every single time. The Chicago Blue BBQ sauce is delicious (all of their sauces are so dynamic and different). The wings are perfectly smoked, tender, juicy. I always get the Soul Bowl and customize with Mac and cheese and rice as the base. Their mashed potatoes aren't my favorite (I like super buttery seasoned taters and these are more plain as a base) but they're still tasty just not my favorite. You have to add a muffin top, they're perfectly soft in the middle with crispy edges and a honey butter on top. The Hog Wild sandwich is also top tier. Everything is just comforting, warm, delicious, and feels like a home made bbq in the backyard. My favorite lunch spot in Shakopee, hands down! I always end up doing delivery from DoorDash so I'm not sure what the actual restaurant is like but my food is always fast and hot upon delivery! (Also look for deals on DoorDash, sometimes their items are 20% off)

Cornbread Muffin Tops Muffin Top (6)

Went here because it was near where I was. Had been there previously without stellar results. I wish I could say my impression changed. I ordered a Southern Sampler and Cornbread Muffin Tops to have leftovers. The gentleman who took my order was very nice and ready to make recommendations. Seating was available but tables are close together. I was able to easily hear the audio of the person's phone sitting next to me later on in my visit. The food came out came out quicker than expected and he brought asking a container for my leftovers he knew I'd planned for. I ate the chicken first because I knew I didn't want to have leftover chicken. It was too dry for my liking. As were most of the others except the pulled pork. I might just be used to my smoked meats having a different flavor because they had plenty of customers who were more than happy with what they had. Given that it was a Monday night early, the flow of customers was pretty consistent and you could tell most were repeat customers. I tried the recommended sauces for each of the meats and they were either too sweet or too salty. The descriptions weren't helpful as I didn't know which ones were mustard-based or vinegar-based or what made them tangy, zesty, or whatever adjective they used to describe the sauce. I did enjoy the muffin tops. I started using them to eat with the meats and sauces. Not sure if butter was available to be served with them. Would've been nice. Not that they needed it, it's just something about buttering a piece of cornbread. The place is set up so that you order and pay upfront, find your table, and then they will bring your food to you. When you're done, you take your trays and silverware, and put them at the proper receptacles near the exit. Again, the people I interacted with were very nice and accommodating.

You walk in and order at the counter and seat yourself. It's a small dining room but there are smokers and a counter right in the dining room itself. Kind of reminds you of a Famous Dave's with the BBQ signs on the wall. Guy who "greeted" us was clearly ready to go home but the other two guys were nice enough. I had the brisket platter and we had the 1/2 rack. Both excellent, Mac and Cheese was our side and it came with like Panko bread crumbs. Pretty good.

Build a bbq bowl w pork. I feel like I got a good deal for some tasty food. I will get a mix of this again

Build a bowl bbq. Lots of free toppings and a choice of premium toppings you can add. I feel like it's kind of the equivalent of a bbq Chipotle bowl, so if you don't like it, it's your own fault. I will get some version of this again. I went with Chicago Blue sauce which I felt had a nice balance of flavors. Yeah, I'll probably get another one tomorrow, cheers

    Wood/smokers

On a cold winter day, some southern bbq seemed like just the thing to try. I had never been here before, but when I walked in and saw the stacks of wood and smokers, I knew it should be good. I wasn't very hungry so I ordered the snack size wings with buffalo sauce and order of Jimmy Beans. The snack wings were amazing. It was 5 wings that had been smoked and then tossed in buffalo sauce. The buffalo sauce was amazing...not too spicy, slightly sweet, and allowed the smoke flavor through as well. They were some of the best wings I have ever had. The jimmy beans were okay. I prefer my beans to have a thicker sauce. These were a little watery but were loaded with chunks of meat. I can't wait to go back when I am hungrier to try other meats...but I'll definitely get some wings too!

We were on the south side of the cities when we decided to look for a spot we hadn't tried before for a quick late lunch. Found old southern BBQ and headed that way. It was around 2pm on a Saturday and there was only 3-4 parties that were there during our time. It's in a strip mall so plenty of parking. Inside it's counter service so after taking a Quick Look we settled in the bbq bowl and wings. The bbq bowl was delicious! I only wish that it was a little more food for the price. Wings were tasty as well. Decor was nice with a semi open kitchen, lots of southern bbq themed items and a smoker. If I was in the area, I'd visit again and check out a few other offerings on the menu.

2 meat platter (ribs and brisket), Mac and cheese, coleslaw
    Marissa M.

Old Southern BBQ located in Shakopee is in a strip mall, so there are many available parking spots! The restaurant has bistro lights and lit up signs everywhere and it really sets the vibe. You order at the counter and then sit down and they bring the food out to you. They have wine slushies, some beers on tap, sweet tea, lemonade and some fountain sodas. The service was pretty fast! We got the 2 meat platter (brisket & Ribs) with mac and cheese, build your own bowl, and half rack of ribs with mashed potatoes and a side of coleslaw as well. Everything except for the bowl also came with the corn bread muffin top. On the 2 meat platter, we personally preferred the brisket and the mac and cheese was also delicious and cheesy and creamy. The ribs were better with the half rack, they were a lot more meaty than the ones that came with our two meat platter! Mashed potatoes were pretty good, but preferred the mac. The coleslaw really surprised me, it was creamy and had a kick at the end. I would definitely get the mac and the coleslaw again! The bowl was fun to put all your favs in one bowl! We got half mashed potatoes, half mac and cheese with pulled pork and a bunch of the toppings. some of the items in the bowl seemed dry, but we got ranch and BBQ sour cream on the side and then also all the BBQ sauces that are at the table made it less dry! I loved all the BBQ sauces and it was fun to try multiple. I would definitely come back!

The basics are all here - good smoke to the meats, great flavor and tenderness, meat falls of the ribs and the brisket is a nice thick cut. Fries and slaw were quality sides, not throw ins. The cornbread muffin top on the platter was delish. I do worry of they will make it in Shakopee, seemed pretty slow for a Tuesday night; let's hope they do. Old South is much better than Famous Dave's ever was, even if short of the mark set by the BBQ of the world, Kansas City.

Clockwise from top: Kids Pulled Pork sandwich, corn muffin top, Kids Mac & Cheese, Creamed Corn, Jimmie Beans, Cole Slaw
    Debra M.

Update: I loved the wings here two weeks ago and I was craving them so I ordered them again. Unfortunately, this time they were burned and so dry even sauce could not save them. I struggled with two and threw the rest in the trash. Really disappointing.

This review is an honest, constructive critique to help a restaurant improve, and I hope Lindsey's BBQ hears it well, because according to reviews here and on other platforms, food changes are desperately needed. The service and servers were truly friendly and relatively attentive. Food was delivered much faster than expected. The atmosphere and setting are comfortable and mostly align with the expected style of a BBQ joint, though they've gone a bit crazy with the pull tabs. It's a solid place for family or a Saturday night with friends. This is where we hit a wall. The food was unfortunate, to say the least. The main issue is that their meats aren't smoked. Not in the slightest. Oven-baked brisket and "burnt" ends. Their original sauce is quite good once cooked and slightly caramelized, however, it's also served cold, which is a grave mistake. You can tell they assume the liquid smoke in the sauce alone will make up for the fact that they're not smoking or even charring their meats. It doesn't. NEVER serve this sauce as a side. We started with the nachos and brisket. Upon tasting, we were confused because the supposed brisket had the taste and texture of a shoulder roast cooked in water. We next had a half-pound of brisket and a pound of burnt ends--same issue. At least we were sure it was brisket by the cut, but it was by far the worst we've ever had. Gamey (fecal), fatty, and completely bland. This is the most substandard, cheap beef I've ever experienced. Had they at least seasoned it properly, that would have been something. The burnt ends weren't exactly burnt. They were more seared in a high degree oven, drying them out slightly without giving them any sense of char. Again, zero smoke. High fat, zero bone or gristle, significantly meaty. Had they been true burnt ends, they would have been quite good. The sauce was great, but the improper cooking method destroyed any desire to finish our plates. The coleslaw was 6 out of 10. It was fairly flat and needed more tang, potentially a little more vinegar, sugar, celery seed, and lemon. The macaroni and cheese was the only hit. Despite other reviews, ours came out creamy and pleasant. Cornbread was okay, also 6 out of 10. Nachos come in at about the same rating. The demise of most restaurants is generally the same. Food quality gets cut, cleanliness is overlooked, and service becomes complacent. They hit the first death knell long ago, and I imagine they suffer for it because you can see where they've overcompensated in other areas to increase profitability. Menu prices for anything on the platters are scrimping on sides and outlandishly high when compared to the likes of Old Southern BBQ, Wing King, Famous Dave's, Dickey's, or John Hardy's. Lindsey's, if you take away anything out of what I'm saying, for the love of barbecue, PLEASE SMOKE YOUR MEAT. There is nothing barbecue about your restaurant. Make some changes and invite me back. I'd be glad to rewrite my review.
