I have been going here for 10 years with a fleet of 10 vehicles. I have a minivan that failed because the sensors needed more driving after recent service, they don't care, charge me $40. No free retest, not even half off or something. Woman who answered the phone had a lot of attitude and said 'let me tell you something, your business is your business. Your money is your money. You do what you want.' So just search Google for Berkeley or Oakland free retest, and save yourself the heartache and cost of you fail. Owner, you just lost a fleet of 10 vehicles for charging me $40 to tell me that my sensors need more driving to reset. Enjoy that $40, it is the last you get from me. KS smog was a 20 minute drive, but the drive probably helped me pass, it was $10 less expensive AND included a free retest. I was out in 20 minutes or so, so easily made the whole trip in about the time it normally takes at this location. That is off 580 sort of where San Leandro and Oakland meet. They also have a nice car wash, a store, seating and a clean bathroom at KS smog. read more

Car failed smog test here because one of the catalytic converters (my car has two) was flagged as "aftermarket - missing a part number", even though the car has never had any emissions work done. Took it into the Smog Check Referee Program for a second opinion and they clearly saw that both convertors were OEM with part numbers, passed immediately. Had to pay DMV for a $50 Temporary Operating Permit since the Referee appointment was booked after registration expired, a little bit my fault for waiting until the last minute to get a smog check. I've never had any problems with smog on my car for 10+ years. Could have been an honest mistake, but I'm never coming here again. read more

Unfortunately, had a bad experience with them. You really need to confirm the price of the smog check because the actual price was higher than the price advertised on their website. Also, the technician failed my car for a very minor problem with a hose in the engine, before he even did the actual smog test. Could have fixed the problem right then. Instead he failed the car and recharged me for a retest. I'm not griping that the hose needed to be fixed, but a recharge for a 5 minute view inside the engine bay seemed excessive. I've been taking my Volvo there for years. I'm going to take it somewhere else next time. read more

Don't go here if the big guy with anger management issues is working. Just call and ask; I'm sure they'll know who you're referring to. He didn't honor the posted coupon / logo on Yelp - $19.95, and was not only rude and condescending, but insulting - saying "any idiot would know that's not advertising", and soon after, physically threatening, chasing after me when he saw me writing down the national number for star smog station complaints. Another person on Yelp commented that he'd had a similar experience. My previous review, pulled by Yelp (see below) had been up for a few months, but the business did not respond to my comments about the aggressively awful customer service.
