I grew up as a "cat person"--we had a Siamese who lived to be 22. And Siamese are kind of mean. My…read moreonly interactions with dogs were with my grandfather's hunting dog, Dickie, during a two-week stay in Rhode Island each summer. Two years ago we got a cat with our boys. He's great, but he's a cat. Wally. In March 2019, we welcomed Leo, a chocolate lab. He has stolen my heart, completely. Now, at 90lbs, he even sleeps on our bed, which had you tried to convince me this would be the case a year ago, I'd have laughed. All that to say that as we prepare to go away on vacation next week, I was getting totally stressed about where Leo was going to stay. Wally...he could go in and out of the garage and survive with someone coming by every couple days with food and fresh water. But Leo? There was no way I wanted to leave him in a kennel. Along came Lone Star Pet Ranch, which we heard about from a friend who has brought her dog here for 7 years. We brought him there yesterday for a 1/2-day "Playcare" session in preparation for a week there. I could write as much below from a positive viewpoint as I wrote above from an anxious one. *Everything* about the Pet Ranch gives me confidence that Leo will be both well taken care of and also have the time of his life, like he's at doggie camp. Associate explained he didn't like the blow dryer. News to me because he's had baths at multiple Lucy's locations many times and regularly. They explained they were letting him air dry. Air dry a GSD? Now he smells like wet dog. When I picked him up at 12:50 no bandanna or cologne. Not the first time they missed that. Makes you wonder if all the services were performed when you pay $150. Manager attempted to interject but kept interrupting me. At that point, I was checked out. He stated he would inquire and call. No attempt to fix it right then. It's been two and a half hours and still no call. I'll drive a bit further to the 1604 location or look for another dog bather.

They offer full days and half days too. They have little pools for the dogs to walk in, trees everywhere and lots of shade for the Summer months. They have live cameras (accessible through the web site) in all areas to watch your kids throughout the day. They ensure all vaccinations are current so your dog will be safe and complete temperament tests before your dog interacts with the pack. My boy was recently adopted from the Animal Defense League and he was so scared. I am sure he never experienced Doggy daycare before. They were patient with him and loved on him as if he was their own. When he got really nervous they separated him and gave him some space. He is now a regular several times a week. They have great financial packages, offer tons of services and soon they will opening the area to wash your own doggies. They also offer free day care if you have a primary dog and foster another and they are dropped off together. How amazing is that!!!!!! Ten stars goes to Lucy's.

The staff at hill country pet ranch were very kind and accommodating. They assured me that my dog would get plenty of love and he seemed happy and cared for when I picked him up. However, I have to deduct a star because despite having an overall good experience, my dog did come home with a number of fleas. We have him on prevention, so the fleas were dying after biting him, but he was so itchy in the meantime. This was after I had also purchased an exit bath and nail trim. I think this is a fine place to board your dog, but ensure that you have plans to go home and give your dog a flea bath immediately. Plus, throw away any fabric items that may be housing fleas when you get home.

They took the time to personally call me, walk me through everything with kindness and transparency, and truly made me feel heard and valued. It's rare to find a place that not only provides great care for your pets but also treats their clients with this level of respect and professionalism. I was so impressed by their responsiveness and willingness to go the extra mile. You can tell they really care, and that kind of service makes all the difference. My pup has boarded here multiple times and we'll absolutely continue coming back. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Hill Country Pet Ranch to anyone looking for a safe, kind, and trustworthy place for their fur baby.
