Several veterinarian offices we called had no available, immediate appointments, and on recommendation from friends, our call secured a same day visit. This free standing clinic, off the corner of Babcock and Prue, offers parking aplenty. Registration is left, with "pet patient" waiting right of entry. There is a specific cat waiting area, with bench seating, and waist high walls providing a more comfortable separation from canine patients. A rather thoughtful accommodation. The clinic is spotless, quiet,... and frankly, absent the smell of four legged patients. The registration staff are professional, efficient, and pleasant throughout. The gestalt of the experience thus far is of a well organized, welcoming office suggesting commitment to very professional service. We were almost immediately ushered into an exam room, welcomed by an assistant, that entered Luna's chief complaint and history into the computer medical record, then took her to a back room for vital measurements. This lady, was clearly experienced in handling cats with tender care. Enter Doctor Haynes, absorbing our history, deftly yet gently examining our ailing kitty, reviewing the lab results, and outlining a course of therapy. To make a long story short, with the consultation of Doctor Lane, a 24 hour stay for hydration and antibiotics, our kitty was returned to well being. Whew!!! Our Luna has a newly discovered congenital kidney issue, and with the counsel of Doctors Haynes and Lane, we have charted a course that optimizes her chance for an excellent quality of life. Yelpers, I recount our experience for very good reason. I have been a practicing physician for 40 years. I understand that a satisfying medical encounter lies not just with well trained providers with stellar credentials, with terrific bedside manner, but also with their support staff, from clerical professionals, to well trained assistants. All in an environment that is reassuring, designed to minimize the anxiety that might accompany a medical encounter. These are aspects that we all appreciate as patients. But when the "rubber meets the road", we want to be assured that our doctors are well trained, and competent for any medical challenge that our furry family members might present. Let me finish by saying that these good doctors, Doctor Haynes and the medical director of the clinic, Doctor Lane, are graduates of Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine. This school of veterinary medicine is consistently among the top five in the nation for veterinary education. The quality implications of their credentials are self evident. We...Luna.. are now committed to their care. I hope this review is helpful for our Yelp community. Luna gives Babcock Hills....5 paws up!!!

He is an amazing business owner and veterinarian and I would recommend him to anybody looking for care for their animals. I got the call from Dr. Pittman and they were both professional and apologetic for the delay. I did receive the notes as requested and results we were waiting on. I brought my dog in since our regular vet was closed on weekends. It cost $250 to explore the wound. Once Dr. Pittman "explored" the wound and remove out two small "masses" she didn't know what it was or wasn't confident about next steps. We came back 3 days later for wound check and we noticed my dog had something similar on another paw and she removed that as well but this time sent it for testing. Also my pet insurance has requested visit notes and records to process my claim and I have even tried calling to have them send the notes needed and they still have not sent anything. When I called the receptionist states she has submitted the request and once notes are ready they will send it. Why does visit notes take over a week to do and send? Overall, I think this place makes it very inconvenient for owners as they are not responsive with requests.

From the moment we arrived, the staff acted quickly and immediately took him to the back while helping me complete the necessary paperwork. I was extremely distraught, and I truly appreciated how one of the staff members took the time to sit with me and help calm me down. Everyone I interacted with was kind, compassionate, and genuinely caring during such a scary situation. Our visit did take several hours since they wanted to monitor him closely throughout the day, but I appreciated that the team checked in with me about every hour to provide updates on how he was doing. Those updates meant a lot and helped ease my anxiety. Dr. Gonzalez was knowledgeable, compassionate, and took the time to explain everything. Thankfully, they didn't find anything concerning during his evaluation and recommended that we follow up with our regular veterinarian for continued care. I hope I never have another emergency, but I'm incredibly grateful to the entire team for treating my dog with such excellent care and for showing me so much kindness during one of the most stressful days I've experienced as a pet owner. Thank you for taking such good care of my baby.

I had to bring my dog on Memorial Day weekend after I noticed that he was lethargic, had nausea,…read moreand was refusing for which was very out of character. We rushed over on a Saturday and I truly appreciate how quickly the tech's triaged him and did not dismiss his case even though he was presenting normal except for a fever and abdominal pain. I was worried that he was going to be dismissed since it had only been a few hours since he started to act strange but I know my dog so well and I know something was very wrong. The doctor let me know that they suspected pancreatitis but there was no ultrasonographer to confirm until Tuesday. He was started on meds to control pain, nausea, and try to get an appetite but he kept getting worse and they decided to have him stay overnight. Sunday they called that they were going to start on NG tube, antibiotics since he had fluid in his abdomen, and continue to monitor. They still said they needed the ultrasound for pancreatitis and I asked why not the blood test but they said they needed ultrasound which I still don't understand why it couldn't be the blood work. Monday they called and let me know he was in sepsis and the fluid had bacteria and he needed surgery but because of the holiday there was no surgeon available and I needed to transfer to blue pearl since they had someone on call. I rushed over and took him over there and I was so grateful that they had me switch because the care we received at blue pearl was phenomenal compared to here. I appreciate that the doctor started him on antibiotics early and was treating him the same way a confirmed case of pancreatitis would be treated because I feel that helped save his life. My main frustration is that they had no doctors in to help him because of the holiday from Saturday all the way to Tuesday. It was very frustrating to take a dog for emergency care to an emergency hospital and pay a ton of money to not have the doctors he needs available especially when quick care can make the difference of him living or not. I will be taking all my pets to blue pearl instead of here because of how amazing they were and that they had staff that could provide timely care.

Dr. Hancock was the first veterinarian that did Kobe's intake and let us know his plan for surgery. She was phenomenal, he had a suspected pancreatitis case and his abdomen had sepsis as well and she had such empathy and was the first time that I felt like I could breath and I just felt peace that my dog was going to be in good hands. He was then operated on by an on call doctor that was called in for his surgery. Dr. Trainor did his surgery and updated us that all went well. Kobe had a crash overnight and was not responsive and was transferred into the Critical care team that morning. Dr. Strey was his doctor in his time at critical care and she was phenomenal as well. She and her tech team truly saved Kobe's life. On Tuesday when he was in critical care he had one tech, Miguel, that was taking care of only him and making sure his vitals were all okay. You can truly tell that Miguel (and all the techs) that cared for Kobe were amazing and really loved on all the pets in the back. They were super available and I was able to come in, visit, call, and got many updates while he was in the hospital which I truly appreciated. Today I went back for Kobe's 1 week follow up/2 week surgery stitches removal and they were so happy to see him doing so good. I will always make the drive out here if I need emergency pet care. They never made it clear that this is a drop off kind of vet, you don't go back into an exam room with your pet. So I had to make arrangements to have her picked up, since I thought it was safe to assume that I would be free to go into work at 12-4. During intake, the technician opened up her carrier to take a look at her in the waiting room where dogs were present which felt super unsafe. Then for pick up, they told me she was ready and I had to wait over half an hour to be seen again. I requested an itemized receipt for the $360 I paid for treatments and was given this illegible piece of paper. I wasn't told (and if it's on this paper I couldn't make it out) what ointment they put on her skin, so the next morning when she had accidentally ingested some of it after getting her cone off and was having poisoning symptoms, I had no idea what she had consumed and they were closed so I couldn't call. This whole experience has left me with a really bad taste in my mouth. Also, I asked if I couldn't just get an over-the-counter iron supplement to try to lower my bill and they said "no, we really recommend you get this one since she has mild anemia," but I went home and looked and found the exact same one available OTC for $8 cheaper. I can appreciate that they're trying to provide affordable vet care which is so needed, but I cannot recommend their services. Side note: Moreso weird than anything but Shrek was playing on a loop in the waiting room at a pretty loud volume and I felt like it was making my cat even more stressed out.

I brought my kitten, Bandit, to this clinic for care and left extremely concerned about the quality…read moreof treatment he received. After the visit, I discovered that the medication prescribed for Bandit listed a dosage of 2 mL. Concerned about the amount, I sought a second opinion from the Medical Director at SAFCC, who informed me that the appropriate dose should have been 0.2 mL for a kitten of Bandit's size. Thankfully, I questioned the dosage and did not administer the medication. I was also concerned to find several inaccuracies in Bandit's medical records, including information stating that he had been experiencing vomiting and diarrhea for 5-7 days, which I did not report during the visit. I have requested clarification regarding these discrepancies. Additionally, Bandit developed significant bruising at the blood draw site following his visit. I contacted the clinic directly regarding these concerns and waited several days for a response. Operations manager, Keyonita Johnson, consistently defended doctor Rogers and only offered a refund for the medication, not the full visit. If they are unable to get the decimal place right for a prescription how am I supposed to trust that the rest of the visit was worth the money? She offered absolutely no explanation as to why the doctor made this mistake, no plan whatsoever as to how this would never happen again, and zero sympathy. As a pet owner, I expect accurate medical records, careful prescribing practices, and timely communication when serious concerns are raised. Based on my experience, I would encourage other pet owners to ask questions, review all prescriptions carefully, and seek a second opinion if something does not seem right. If you have been a victim of this businesses harmful practices, please file a report with the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical examiners. If enough people do this we can get them shut down.

I had a first time appointment this morning for an express groom, and handed my dog off to the groomer. Minutes after he took my pup and closed the door, I could hear my dog screaming in pain - two shrieks. I know the difference between anxious barking/whining and cries when a dog is hurt. My dog cried in pain. He is an anxious dog with separation anxiety, yes, but the only time I've heard him make the noise he did was when another dog bit him and when a neighbor accidentally stepped on his foot. I've also fostered hundreds of dogs, so can tell the difference. My gut/instincts told me to just cancel on the spot and take my dog home, so I told the front desk to charge me whatever is needed and we go without the groom. My dog is 3 years old and has been groomed every 3 months for his entire life. Grooming is not new for him, plus I gave him trazodone 1.5 hours prior. I wish I could've liked this place because it's so close to home but it's not worth it when the groomer is inexperienced and abusing the dogs. I spent less than 20 minutes there but my gut instinct told me that this is not a safe or experienced place to hand off your dogs. Do NOT go here

It seemed like there was always another test, treatment, or add-on being pushed, even for routine appointments. I understand recommendations are part of veterinary care, but the constant pressure made the experience uncomfortable and expensive. Overall, I wouldn't personally recommend Buttercup Veterinary Hospital based on my experience. We've raised German Shepherds for years, so we're very familiar with the breed and common skin and allergy issues. My son's GSD is currently visiting, and I stopped by Buttercup Veterinary Hospital simply trying to purchase more of the medicated shampoo they had previously recommended for itchy skin. I was denied because my own GSD, who was a patient there and was ultimately put down at their clinic, had passed away, so I was told I was no longer considered a current patient. Losing my dog was heartbreaking, and the interaction felt cold and unnecessarily transactional. Unfortunately, that experience reinforced my overall feeling that this clinic focuses more on upselling appointments and services. Find a vet who doesn't shut people out when their pet passes away.
