I needed a place for my beloved dog to stay for two nights as his usual babysitters were going to be busy. He's never been boarded before, so I was very nervous. The staff at hill country pet ranch were very kind and accommodating. They assured me that my dog would get plenty of love and he seemed happy and cared for when I picked him up. However, I have to deduct a star because despite having an overall good experience, my dog did come home with a number of fleas. We have him on prevention, so the fleas were dying after biting him, but he was so itchy in the meantime. This was after I had also purchased an exit bath and nail trim. I think this is a fine place to board your dog, but ensure that you have plans to go home and give your dog a flea bath immediately. Plus, throw away any fabric items that may be housing fleas when you get home. read more

I boarded my dog at Hill Country Pet Ranch over Thanksgiving because I was going out of town. I've boarded him at other boarding places in the past but they were booked out so I though I would give place a try and was very disappointed. Not only was he under-fed, but when they groomed him before leaving they cut 5 of his nails so short that they were all bleeding. He lost weight and when I questioned why more of his food was not gone they were not able to give me an answer. He was cowering and even snipped at me when I reached over to pet him, which he's never done. I was so upset that I called back and asked to speak to a manager only to be told that she was out sick and would call me when she got back when she returned to the office. I still have yet to receive a call. I'm writing this review 2 weeks after I was told I'd receive a call. I would give this place negative stars but that's not an option. Needless to say I will never be taking my sweet guy back here and I recommend you don't either. read more

We dropped off our Golden Retriever with this poorly managed boarding facility for the weekend. The young front desk receptionist told us on Friday that we may pick up our dog on Sunday before 3pm without a charge. So at 2:30pm on Sunday we had arrived to pick up our beloved animal. To our astonishment, they gate was locked and we were told they did not open until 3pm And we had to pay the fee. That quickly became the least of our inconveniences when we noticed a HUGE SORE ON OUR DOGS TAIL. Only to be told that SOMEONE THEY DONT KNOW WHO notated that he "Came in with the sore" I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANYONE WITH AN ANIMAL TO NEVER BOARD HERE. It is a poorly managed facility with NO CARE FOR THEIR CLIENTS FAMILY MEMBERS. read more

Do not board your pets here as the management can't be trusted. We followed their directions on the website for reserving a specific type of room and received a confirmation email. When we showed up to drop off our pet a couple months later they said we had no such reservation and that it was our fault for not calling them. When we pointed out we followed their guidance and that we never received a call from them they said that that didn't sound like anything they would do. So essentially she said we were lying irregardless that we had received confirmation. The manager did absolutely nothing to try to resolve the issue and essentially said not her problem. So don't believe the reviews from people because if there are any issues they have shown they will do absolutely nothing to try to resolve them. Good luck if anything would happen to your pet while staying there it would probably end up being your fault. read more

If you are boarding your pet in the San Antonio area, do it at Hill Country Pet Ranch!! My fiancé and I moved here from NY at the beginning of July and had to board our dogs because we were staying with a family member, so until we got situated here, Chance and Karma stayed at Hill Country.. For 40 days.. And I couldn't be happier with how things went! I'm one of those overly obsessive and worried dog moms who had never put either of my dogs in boarding prior to this so trust me when I say, I was very cautious and weary of leaving them anywhere. But Hill Country took such amazing care of them! Any time you board, especially for a longer period of time, there's always a chance something could happen that might change the behavior of the animal (something I was worried about because it has happened to a sisters dog) but both Chance and Karma came back their silly, happy selves and looked so good! The only thing I wish Hill Country did that didn't happen, was send pictures or video of them during playtime or exercise.. But maybe that's just because I'm the crazy dog lady! I am so overjoyed with my experience over these past 40 days, I would HIGHLY recommend Hill Country to any animal lover. Thank you so much for taking such great care of my babies! read more

We left both of our dogs (4 month old golden retriever & 2 year old chocolate lab) at hill country pet ranch for a weekend. The staff was very friendly & the different activity packages they had were wonderful because you were able to select what you knew would work best for your dogs. What a great facility to house your pet while on vacation. Rates run about $19 a day. They feed, walk and play with your pet. I attended an adoption event last weekend that they graciously opened their doors for. The staff was up beat and all the animals looked happy. I absolutely love this place. Hill Country has exceeded my expectations everytime my dogs are boarded there. Because I have pit bulls I am always very cautious in where I board them, but Hill Country welcomes them with open arms. They are located on a huge property out in Boerne. They have indoor/outdoor modern runs and provide playtime and walks everyday. The staff is helpful, knowledgeable and always happy to see my beasts. I was super excited about this place at first, I was having a hard time finding a place near San Antonio because I own a Bull Terrier who is not neutered and is on a raw diet but upon check in every since ounce of my excited deminished. I brought my year old Bull Terrier here to stay for five days (5/17/18-5/22/18) and I was completely unimpressed with our experience. The first problem came from when I was checking in, I had made this reservation months ago and gave them the information to contact my Vet for my dog's vaccine records and when I got there I found out that they never had, luckily I predicted that this would happen and had my Vet email me my dog's vaccines just in case. Then the man who was checking me in was acted like I was speaking another language as I explained my dog's feeding instructions (he's completely raw fed) and he has to be hand fed because if not he'll try to eat everything in one bite and choke himself. Well half way through attempting to explaining to the man, a woman walked up and started listening in (I can only assume that was a manager or the owner of the place) and as soon as I had mentioned having to hand feed my dog she interrupted me and said it would be an extra charge (which I would have been fine paying if she had let me get a word in) and talking down on me (I've worked in the pet industry for 6 years I know how everything works and I understand that it's an extra hassle) and then she snatched my dog's paper off of the counter and flipped through it and then slammed it back on to the counter and declared that I wasn't even "getting anything extra" (not everyone can afford add-ons) and just acting completely unprofessional and bratty about the entire situation. The next day I dropped off the last portion of my dog's food and added on some playtime packages for my dog and the woman I was talking with at the front desk (not the same woman from the night before) sighed irritably at me and acted like I was bothering her and inconveniencing her by asking to spend more money at their facility. And lastly when I came to pick up my dog he had a massive scab on his nose and they told me it was fence fighting with other dogs (which I was vaguely aware of and understood) but what I could not understand or excuse were the two cuts he has by his eyes that none of the staff bothered to inform me about. I've called several time questioning where my last Tupperware container was and about the cuts by his eyes and every time I talk to someone they just tell me that they'll inform the manager and have her call me but I haven't gotten a call back that was pertaining to my actual questions or concerns. Overall I was severely disappointed and not impressed by the service from and will most definitely not bring my dog here ever again. read more

Boarders Beware, especially during this next week between Christmas and New Years. We just got our dogs back on the 26th of Dec after almost a week of being boarded at Hill Country Pet Ranch. Now they both have Kennel Cough. Evidently, even if your dogs are vacinnated, they can still get this virus from other infected dogs if keep in close quarters like a kennel. Don't even think for a second that Hill Country Pet Ranch will pick up the bill for your subsequent visit to your vet. That's not happening. read more

We have left our Westie at Hill Country Pet Ranch three times and have been very pleased each time. We like the fact that they provide indoor/outdoor runs that are more spacious than the little "cage" boxes many kennels provide for smaller pets. The front desk staff is hospitable and always show interest and care during check in. The add-on play packages assure that he gets out and moves around once in a while with some personal attention. I wish we never had to leave him anywhere outside of the familiarity of home, but sometimes it is unavoidable. We have been sending our dogs to Hill Country Pet Ranch for years and they have always been wonderful. We dropped our dogs off two Fridays ago and planned to pick them up on Monday. My wife got sick and with a newborn, we were not able to pick them up until 8 days later even though we called and scheduled to pick them up on the seventh day. The staff ended bathing our dogs twice because we kept changing the pickup date, but only charged us once, even after I offered to pay for the second bath. They never complained that we couldn't seem to get our act together! Its so wonderful to encounter people who do more than what is required! Thanks! read more

Please check with your vet before taking your pet here for boarding. When we picked up our Lab he was extremely ill, had lost 10 lbs, had kennel cough so severe he could barely breathe. Our Vet was in Boerne at the time and had vaccinated him against Kennel cough. The vet had us carefully caring for him until he got well. We believe he was completely neglected during the 2 weeks he was there. We called the owner explaining our vets comments and she refused them and said she wouldn't give us any of our money back or pay for our vet bills that totaled $200! Stay away from this place and get a lot of references from vets and friends to verify what is happening here. B careful, owners will do their own reviews and post them. read more
