My lashes started falling out by the handful. I loved them initially, but I really should have been encouraged to go two, not three weeks between fills. I have opted to go elsewhere for fills. The costs listed online here are NOT what the actual costs for fills are at 40 Lashes. I had read here the fills were $25. When I made my appointment, the fill cost was $55. I can't justify $55 every two weeks for eyelashes. I found fills for $35 every two weeks by a professional who is every bit as good, a bit more personable, and with using the glue that had been recommended to me initially as the best to prevent breakage and lash fall out. read more

Vanity, thy name is woman! Fine, my eyelashes aren't real, but most people don't know that. They look super full and long with the help of 40 Lashes. Once you walk into this corner office that looks like a quaint living room with with hardwood floors and windows to let the sunlight in you will be greeted by the really nice staff. These ladies are ever so helpful on how to determine what you want.. they have a variety of lengths, widths and curls (c, j, etc.) You will lay on the chair for about 2 and a half hours (for your first initial visit...refills are about an hour) which will go by pretty fast and more than likely you will fall asleep to the mellow music they have going on their ipod. The lady that applies the eye-lash extensions is super detailed, attentive, and patient. At the end you will have the long full lashes that you'd long for. read more

On a whim, on an unexpected day off during a business trip, I decided to get eyelash extensions. Impulsive? Yes! I did a little scouting online, and 40 Lashes had a good reputation, seemed reasonably priced, and had an open appointment. Well, my experience was beyond fantastic, and today it got even better!! After 3+ weeks with beautiful, full, mascara-free lashes I thought I should get a "fill" here in the SF Bay Area, before I left on my next biz trip. I made an appointment at a high-end local salon that advertised eyelash extensions. They took one look at my lashes and declined to do my "fill", saying that they didn't think I would be happy with the result. They brought every esthetician in the salon out to the lobby to "ooooh" and "aahhhh" over my amazingly full and mostly still intact original extensions. They all agreed that they must have been put on using an advanced technique that they didn't know... layering 2 or 3 individual extensions on each of my own lashes. I left, pleased and disappointed at the same time... So... I called 40 Lashes (to see if they could offer me any advice), left a message, and the owner Cindy called me back within minutes. Despite the fact that I will likely never be in Fullerton again for any her services (which she knew), she spent nearly 20 minutes with me on the phone, helping me understand the gorgeous eyelashes that I'd gotten there, how they were applied to look this good, and how to find someone locally that could do the same. She was amazingly helpful, patient, and totally professional. My eyelashes were actually applied by Jennifer, who is really wonderful, and apparently CRAZY talented! Cindy explained that they do NOT in fact put more than one extension on per eyelash, but the skill is in carefully separating the eyelashes, even the tiny ones, and extending them all. I've received many, many compliments... not on my eyelash extensions, but rather on my eyes and make up (which I really don't have on!). "Wow! You look amazing! What's different?" They look so natural that no one quite knows what I've done. Even my boyfriend said that I looked gorgeous when he picked me up at the airport... but it wasn't until morning when he WOKE me up to say "It's your eyelashes!! They're stunning! Did you do something different?" When I told him they were extensions he said "Well, I hope you keep doing it... I'm totally digging the way they look... very sexy". This is the worst place ever ! Initially it was great I went here a few times - until they fired everybody & hired two new girls that are both terrible! I went in for a eyelash removal & full set. My appt was at 3 o'clock - at 8pm the owner was annoy that her worker was taking so long & she still wasn't done asked me to come back another day! I was pissed because the days she offered were 3 /4 days later ! I asked the owner I'm suppose to walk around with my eyelashes half done! She was very inconsiderate - I walked out .. & never went back. My eyelashes were too short we agreed on 15 I left with 10 & 12 ! Been going to 40 Lashes since March of 2016. I initially went to get them done for a photo shoot...and I love them so much that I've returned every month. I'm seriously in love with them. Many people have complimented me on them and think they are my natural lashes. And then they immediately want to know where I got them done when I tell them they are extensions! Mascara was always a must for me, but it often irritated my eyes and left me with "raccoon circles" a few hours after applying. I love that I no longer have to wear eye make-up! Lashes are so much easier and way more comfortable. Nancy does my lashes and she does a fantastic job. Everyone there is very friendly and helpful. A few days after my last fill, I had some empty spots on my lashes and felt as though they weren't as thick and full as usual. I've always wanted long beautiful lashes but other than MAC fake lashes I'd never given much thought to extensions. That said I trusted my lashes to Rachel and let me tell you she does an AMAZING job. I've been to several salons for haircuts, eyebrow wax, etc and I always receive oohs and ahhhs on how great / natural they look. I was at Bloomies earlier today and the girl at Laura Mercier counter commented on how great my lashes look with mascara. She was stunned to find out they were extensions, she even asked me to close my eyes to try and see where my lashes ended and extensions began and she couldn't tell. First of I went to get my eyelash done there and there customer services SUCKS the owner (cindy)was very rude! She was talking about other employees that used to work there and got fired. I don't think that is very professional at all specially if there are other customers there getting there eyelashes done. About my eyelashes well they were not placed properly there was like 2 eyelashes glued on one of my natural lash, that made them super heavy n they fell of by chunks. The girl (Jen)clearly didnt know what she was doing!I will never go back there again!They also have a stupid policy that if you miss your appointment you have to pay them the service even tho you didn't get anything done.!I DO NOT recommend this place at all.. I have to say, I really wanted to like this place and even more, I really wanted to love my new lashes. I called several local places trying to get in after a friend of mine had got lash extensions (out of town so couldn't go to the place she went) and ended up going here because after speaking to her on the phone, the owner Cindy made me feel so comfortable with the process. I expressed to her I wanted a really natural look so that I could wear them daily and save time having to put on a lot of other makeup. She assured me that her salon could give me the really natural look I was going for and that this is what most of her clients wanted. Going into this, I knew nothing about the different types of lashes or methods of putting them on, etc. I just knew that after seeing my friend's lash extensions and then doing a quick google image search on "natural looking lash extensions", the natural look I wanted was possible. On the day of, I showed Gigi the picture on my phone of what I wanted or the look I was going for. She agreed that she would put so little because the picture was VERY natural. Anyway, I get up and she shows me the mirror and she's like, "see they are very natural". And I almost asked if this was a joke because these lashes were so curled - I can't even begin to to tell you other than they shot straight up and back from my eye in a way that would never be considered natural. I was just in utter shock but didn't say anything because I was thinking "maybe they will relax some" or "maybe I am just not used to them". But they were also SOOO thick and just over the top. By the time I walked back to my car, I just turned around and came right back to the salon. They were just that bad. No one was there. The door was locked even though I knocked and the sign said open. So I left. I had to catch a flight out of town feeling very uncomfortable about how I looked the entire time. I almost got them removed in another state (that is how desperate I was) but the place said they couldn't guarantee that their remover would work on whatever glue the place that had done them had used. So the first thing I did the night before flying home was leave a message to come in and get them removed here. It had to be that day because I couldn't go another day with them on. The owner kind of made it known that normally they wouldn't be able to see me like this because she would have had lunch break during that time but...Anyway I learned during this removal visit that there is no way they could have done a natural look on me because they only offer one type of lash - apparently something called a D curl which is the super duper curled back lashes they put on me. I now know that the D curl is the curliest you can get which doesn't necessarily scream extremely natural to me. I also learned during removal that Gigi did a volume set on me which is apparently 2-3 lashes to every one natural lash - the complete opposite of the classic natural which is 1:1. I confirmed this to be true because I had one bunch of 3 lashes fall off over the weekend. They were all bunched together at the end and had been glued to only one lash of mine. On the day I got them removed, I also had a bunch of 3 stuck to my bangs when I left the salon. So, ultimately, I am unhappy with paying $150 and being told that the salon could do a natural look when in reality, they couldn't have if they only have the super curled D curl lash and no other options. Had I known that I wouldn't have gone there. No one's eyelashes go straight up like that. If that is the only style you do as a salon, you should just be honest with the customers and let them decide. It will work for some who want the ultra glam Vegas look, but not for regular everyday moderate makeup wearing people. And of course, there is the simple fact that the girl who did my lashes did not do the classic natural look on me but volume instead, so therefore did not do what I asked for. I guess I was expecting to get offered at least a partial refund considering I was promised a look they couldn't and didn't deliver. But the owner only waived the removal fee. read more

I've been a loyal client of 40 lashes going on almost two years. I never canceled or no showed my appointments. I ALWAYS tipped! i have gone religiously every 3-4 weeks. I would spend anywhere from $60-$65 every appointment. It disheartens me to say that I can no longer be a client. The past couple of visits, I noticed that some of my eyelashes were drooping into my eye, either bothering my vision or poking my actual eye. Anytime I would point out just the one or two stray lashes that would be doing this, Clarissa would get very defensive and upset. Cindy, the owner, texted me in confidence that Clarissa gets frustrated because she feels that she cannot make me happy unlike her other clients. I told her that I absolutely love my lashes! I have even referred clients over to them. I just only want the lashes that poke me in my eye to be fixed, rather than I yank them out myself. My last visit, again there was just one eyelash bugging my vision. Clarissa had already rushed out for her lunch. I told Cindy about it and she said thats just the way your eyelash grows. I asked if they could just not put the eyelashes on the ones that grow that way. She said its almost impossible for Clarissa to tell which ones grow funny until the lash is already on them. Then i suggested that maybe she can finish adding lashes earlier, so that there would be time left over in the hour appt to fix or remove the wonky eyelash. I was totally fine with giving up my time to have more lashes added just so she could have time to remove any. I was willing to work with HER schedule. She proceeded to tell me that Clarissa is at the point where she would prefer not to have me as a client anymore, but she would try to work it out. I was extremely upset to hear this because I have been loyal to 40 lashes. This is not anyway to conduct business. Especially when the client is the one trying to find a way to make the lash technician happy. It should be the other way around! Beware of this business! The woman who did my extensions was very nice, she filled out all the lashes (rather than doing just 50 or 75 lashes per eye) and the price for fills is lower than a lot of other places I've had my eyelash extensions done. That being said, I would not return, and would not recommend 40 Lashes to friends. There are three main reasons I ended up being dissatisfied with my eyelash extensions: (1) I had serious clumping/cluster issues. With eyelash extensions, sometimes the glue can adhere two lashes together. These clusters are supposed to be separated so you don't have unnatural clumps. With my eyelash extensions that were done here, I not only had way too many of these "doubles," I even had a couple clusters of FOUR OR FIVE lashes stuck together. Not only did this look completely fake (especially when the roots of my actual eyelashes started growing in), but the weight of the cluster would turn that bit sideways, which looked ridiculous and caused discomfort. Also as certain lashes in the clump grew longer, they would pull the other younger/shorter lashes in that clump, and cause premature fallout. After a few weeks, I had a couple small bald spots. (2) The glue touched the skin of my eyelid. The adhesive should stay a slight ways apart from the actual skin of the lid - it should remain on the lashes only. (3) The same length lash extension was used all the way across the eyelid - it's sort of ridiculous and unnatural to have 11mm lashes in your inner corners. It also itches when you blink. I never realized before that other places use shorter, finer 8mm lashes towards the inner corners and then gradually work in some longer lashes for a more believable look. If you end up visiting 40 Lashes, I would recommend specifically requesting that the same length lashes are not used throughout - especially towards the inner corners. I've had eyelash extensions for almost a year now, and this is the first time I've actually had to have all of them removed. I wanted to let my lashes "recover" before causing additional strain with new extensions. I wanted to write this review so people realize the price at 40 Lashes isn't actually low. Although I generally pay about $25 more for my fills at my usual places, I consider that a value when taking into account the issues I encountered with the 40 Lashes extensions. For $25 more, I had sustainable, comfortable, and more natural extensions. That being said, $80 every few weeks for eyelash extensions is prohibitive for a lot of people, so I guess it's good that places like 40 Lashes exists, but I think they should lower their prices some, train their people not to allow the glue to touch the eye (that's not safe and you could have an allergic reaction), and post pictures of their workmanship so people know what they're paying for. If you're 17 years old, on a budget, and just want extensions for a one-time special event, I would recommend 40 Lashes. Just have the extensions professionally removed once the event is over before they damage and tug on your natural lashes. If you're an adult that uses extensions as a daily part of your cosmetics routine, go some place better. read more

I personally had experience doing lashes and recently was certified so I was picky about who I went to to get my own lashes filled. Clarissa is GREAT!!! She is meticulous and gentle. I found this place thanks to yelp and them having an opening when I needed it. I've had extensions for a long time and been to a few different places. I took a break for almost a year and just couldn't live without them any longer. I don't feel like I need to wear any make up when I have these. I love them! One thing I've learned is that 1) extensions are not for everyone - they're a responsibility with great reward :-), 2) and eyelashes do fall out in different cycles and you have to take care of them (be gentle with your lashes and care for them properly - don't rub, don't use the wrong cleansers, follow the care guidelines), 3) no pain no gain. They might bug you. You need to determine... is the issue the lashes and who did them or are they just not for me? Find an experienced eyelash gal and talk (not blame) one you can trust.
