Not the greatest lunch experience unfortunately. We arrived and stood inside a bit not knowing we were to seat ourselves. The gentleman behind the bar eventually let us know to sit anywhere so we opted for one of the handful of outdoor tables, as the inside felt a tad gloomy. This male employee brought us some menus and was pleasant. Our female server was not as friendly, however. She took our order with minimal interaction and brought our lunch back quite fast. Upon her placing our food we each had a request...I asked if I could get lettuce for my sandwich and my daughter asked for some dipping sauce. The server was clearly annoyed by our requests and it made us feel pretty unwelcome honestly. We waited for the items long enough our food had started to get cold, so we ended up going ahead without. Eventually she did end up bringing the items and attempted to be slightly more cordial from then on, but truthfully we just felt out of place at that point and ready to move on. This place had the BEST BURGER I have ever had. Whatever their special blend is for their patty, we thoroughly enjoyed it! Likewise, the chicken tenders were phenomenal. 6 tenders that were moist and juicy. The breading was light and flavorful. This would have been hands down a 5 star review of the service had been better. I got the soup of the day (cabbage, potato, and chorizo), and expected some spice - chorizo, duh. However what I got was a VERY spicy broth, and I couldn't eat it (there had been no mention of it being spicy). The waitress never stopped to check on our food, and when she cleared the plates and left the soup, I told her she could take the soup as well since it was too spicy for me. I said it politely (that's how I was raised). She just looked at me annoyed, said okay, and walked away. I was still charged the upcharge for the soup, which I can understand, but most places would offer fries at least (which came with the meal). Wow... what a great experience! We decided to check this restaurant out and it was wonderful. From the start, the service was EXCELLENT!! Hallie and Sam were the best! We started with some cocktails, which didn't disappoint. I had the cucumber refresher... delish! And then, the summertime mule. The strawberry basil syrup was a perfect twist! We ordered the Cornbread and Buttermilk Biscuits, Smash Burger, and the special of the day which was a heated sandwich with mushrooms, onions, cheese, and beef. Everything tasted good. We've always enjoyed visiting 4118 and today did not disappoint. Pics don't do it justice, the Griddled Chicken Sandwich was amazing. I was a little hesitant with the combination of pimento cheese, mushrooms, bacon & purple onion added to the grilled chicken but the flavors were amazing together. A great place for a straight forward, all-American lunch, dinner of snack. Menu is simple with burgers, sandwiches, salads and some entrees. Shrimp and grits, roast chicken, fish & chips, chicken tenders, salads, egg rolls (!), roast pork, desserts. Prices $4 - 15 with highest price for 1/2 chicken $18. Very reasonable and the food is good. Covid has forced an on-line menu and ordering, but I think you can eat inside. We were here in the early days of Covid and Highlands was adjusting. Amazing service at 4118. Had dinner with my husband and two kids. Wide variety to choose from and everything was excellent. One of my kid's entrees came out a little late (we didn't complain - it happens!) and they proactively took the meal off of our bill. I rode up to Highlands with the family last weekend. It was their first weekend open since Covid shut everything down. The place was empty, but we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The waiter was funny and went above and beyond taking care of these out-of-towners. He found us a store that was open where we could buy playing cards. He called the owner of a local spa (at home) to see if they would be open the next day. He was pretty snappy with our orders too. I've never met a barbecue sandwich that I didn't like...well there was that one time in Crawfordville, but that's neither here nor there. Anyway, the Cheerwine bbq sandwich was delicious. It was a bit sweet for my tastes, but I prefer a more vinegar flavor anyway. If you like sweet bbq, this one is on point. The kids got the buttered pasta and burgers. The macaroni and cheese is really good. By the time we left, a few more folks had drifted in and everyone there was happy and outgoing. A little old local couple decided to make 4118 their first meal out after the shutdown was lifted. That tells me something right there. If you enjoy a cocktail with dinner, 4118 has a full bar and can make anything you want. The drinks were tasty and not overpowering, but not too weak either. Came for lunch in a season where there's not a lot of options in town. Food was excellent. Friendly service. Interior And ambiance is basic. We ordered the green bean starter, chicken wings with buffalo sauce, and the Cuban sandwich. Everything was executed well and ingredients used made a difference in the flavor. My Burger had the perfect balance of traditional taste with a mixture of spices that linger on the palate with and end note of Buffalo flavor. Stopped here on a recent weekend trip to the Highlands based on a recommendation from a friend. When we walked in there was a gentleman there who admonished us for not having on a mask telling us about the mask mandate. That's cool, I don't mind wearing a mask, but it's kind of hard eating while wearing a mask :) . My real issue was that no one had on a mask in the whole restaurant. He didn't, the servers didn't, and the bartender didn't. Now about the food and service: the menu was not the menu you see posted. It is scaled down, probably due to covid. My husband opted for the shrimp and grits. They were very good. I would give them a 4.5/5. I ordered the burger and fries. It was ok. Not the worst burger, but not the best. I would give it a 4/5. 4118 is an absolutely amazing restaurant! We ate lunch there the day we arrived in Highlands. Everything here is prepared in house or sourced locally. We had the house made bison sausage on the pretzel roll, which was locally made, and it was amazing! The sausage has such a great, savory flavor, the pretzel roll was exactly like a good homemade pretzel. We also had the beet salad with blue cheese which was the perfect combination of cheese with beets and the dressing was superb. To top it off the micro greens gave the salad a bit of zest and complimented the beets nicely. We enjoyed lunch so much that we came back for dinner the next evening. The wild mushroom ravioli with the duck confit was prepared perfectly with the duck complimenting the mushrooms nicely. The duck breast with the freeze dried cranberries was cooked to perfection and so tender and flavorful. This is a hidden gem in Highlands. There are few restaurants of this quality in this area so I highly recommend that you try 4118. read more

The wait staff is very friendly and gave wonderful service. The food was good and the atmosphere is pleasant. But...the restroom was filthy. It smelled awful, the vent fan didn't appear to work and it was covered in dust. The walls and floors were all dirty. If the bathrooms are like that what is the kitchen like? As I looked around the restaurant I noticed all the baseboards were dirty throughout and the spider webs that hung in the corners were covered in dust, they had obviously been around a very long time. Hope this winter during off season 4118 will hire a good cleaning service and a good painter and spruce the place up. And hire someone to clean regularly. read more
