49ers Tavern is a small local sports bar near PCH and 7th St. that serves up good beer and bar food. My boyfriend and I stopped by a while ago with our fur baby, and we had a pretty great time! The service from the staff was excellent, I forgot his name, but the cook was very friendly and hospitable. For appetizers, we decided on pretzels and chicken nachos. We originally thought the pretzel would be one of those big, soft pretzels with a side of cheese, but to our surprise, they came as traditional pretzels with a side of yellow sauce. The sauce tasted similar to Chick-fil-A sauce and paired well with them. The chicken nachos were really yummy as well! The inside of the bar isn't dog-friendly; however, they do have a small outdoor patio where fur babies are welcome. I will say, I wish the patio was a bit more spacious, as it felt like I was practically sitting with the people around me due to how tight the space was. The inside of the bar is also a bit cramped. Overall, I had a nice time at 49ers Tavern. I'd definitely come back for food and drinks again! read more

Quick story. I first came to the 49er about a decade ago when I was in college. There was a lady there that was really friendly with all of us. We used to stay until close and had great times(2014-2015) I've since moved into the area and looked at the 49er many times over the years for a chance to go. I finally went by myself after getting off of work. I sat at the bar and ordered a Guinness. This Guinness was served to me with 1/3 of it just being foam. The bartender said they were having issues with the tap/keg. After my second foamy Guinness I ordered a burger. The burger was alright, wasn't anything special but wasn't bad either. Experience could have been better. Service by the staff was good. read more

I've lived here all my life. Drive by often and have never been. Until a couple of weeks ago, I FINALLY went. On a whim, coming home from being out all day in Huntington Beach. Didn't stay long. Just got 1 beer and decided to try "the best burger in town". It was $14 or $15 with cheese and was served with potato salad and a pickle. The bun was fluffy and fresh. My friend LOVED it. I thought it was a pretty good burger. My husband thought it was just ok. The atmosphere is nice. It's very clean inside, no sticky floor and it smelled fresh. Not like a gross, icky bar. You know the smell I'm talking about? That is a big plus with my husband when we go out, especially to new places we try. read more

I didn't feel welcomed here as someone new to this bar. The atmosphere felt very cliquey and difficult for outsiders to break into. I also personally wasn't impressed with the beer selection compared to other bars in Long Beach. What frustrated me most was how quickly situations seemed to escalate without communication or clarification. From my perspective, there wasn't much effort made to explain expectations or resolve misunderstandings before being asked not to return. I'd recommend DiPiazza's on PCH instead if you're looking for a bar that's more welcoming to newcomers. read more

Multiple visits, same issue. I heard a patron say "we should deport more f***ing illegals," and on another night someone showed me overtly racist/extremist content. When I raised concerns, it was dismissed as a "difference of opinion" and excused because the person was a regular. That's not the kind of environment I'm comfortable supporting. The food was good though. Much respect to the chef. Well seasoned burger. read more

We came in for a burger that my neighbor( who's a regular) keeps raving about. Ordered two beers and checked out the menu. Server, Maxi, was not friendly nor did she ask us if we were hungry. Not once did she check in on us. Asked for the bill which she got quickly not noticing the fly in my friends beer that had to be pointed out to her. Her response "oh there's a fly". (Hindsight I should have taken a pic) No apology or "Can I get you another beer?" I paid the tab for two beers and walked out. My opinion is , if you have a "male appendage" you get service and she'll let you buy her drink shots. NOTE after talking to my neighbor he said not to go when Maxi is working, she's a terrible server. May go back but my first instinct is a big NO. Time will tell... read more

A friend of mine and I decided to go to this bar. We thought it would be a chill spot. But once we stepped foot in the regulars that were there looked as though they had just seen two ghosts. The talking died down and it was complete silence. The only person who was welcoming was the Waitress/Bartender working that day. No longer kid/family friendly. Came in on Sunday afternoon for burgers and grabbed a table on the patio. Manager came by, stated that the new owner doesn't want kids on the premises and told us to leave. We ended up up Roundin 3rd which had a much more inviting environment. read more

My husband and I were down in Long Beach picking up paperwork. It was a rainy day. We wanted to stick around the area and have a couple drinks at the closest bar. We walked into 49rs Tavern & Grill - as the first customers - and we were immediately warmly welcomed by the friendly bartender Baylee. She was so fun, we ended up staying for a few rounds of drinks. 49rs Tavern & Grill is a upscale Dive Bar. 2-Pool tables and a shuffleboard. The Burgers are the best you are going to find in the area. Gary makes a mean Burger called the DirtBag Burger. Unbelievable in flavor and has just the right amount of everything to make it the best. Hours are 11AM to 10PM Sunday through Thursday and 11AM to 11PM Friday and Saturday. They have a Firemans hour and a happy hour. read more

My favorite bar. Great food, cheap beer, outstanding service and sports on multiple tvs. Besides the cheap beer in cans---PBR, Hamms, Busch Light, Rolling Rock , there is an excellent selection of craft beers and seltzers on tap. Jose is a dedicated cook. Everything is cooked on outdoor grills. Shelley, Baylee, Raya, Mayra and Kat are attractive and attentive servers/bartenders. Two pool tables and shuffleboard. What a night and a very incredible time I had with my wife. We decided to give it a try now that it's under new management. I got to say. Definitely impressed with the cleanliness of the place and the wonderful customer service I received. I got a beer and my wife got a mango cart and we both enjoyed our beverages and after that we decided to play some pool. What a great bargain to play one game for a dollar. Yes I said that correctly. $1.00 to play a game of 8ball. After that we had another drink and decided to eat their. What a terrific menu that they have now. We had a old school burger and a new menu item grilled chicken and everything was terrific. read more

I came in the other day to hang out and I decided I just had to give our bartender a shoutout. Brian gave us excellent service. It was kinda nice seeing a guy bartender for once lol. He brought a great vibe and he was just really fun to talk to. He definitely kept us entertained the whole time! Went to the 49rs Tavern last Friday around 5pm. It was slightly busy. Not too crazy. The bartender/waitress came up and asked what we wanted. I said the QR codes on the tables weren't working, and I needed a menu. She pointed to the board that I couldn't really see across the bar and said "sorry we have no menus, but it's on the board." She walked away and never came back. After 20 minutes of waiting, we saw her sitting at the bar on her phone. We walked out and went across the street to the 562 bar and had a much better experience. It's too bad because I just moved in right across the street. They could have had a regular customer. Oh well. read more

At day it's a chill, casual, uncrowded and unpretentious place to drink a frosty beer, crack a few peanuts, play a game of pool or dominos, and eat a homemade burger, with your uncle's Pandora station in the background. Unexpectedly great! Jose, the chef, is so sweet and really puts his heart into the food. Nice patio to enjoy the sun, if dark dive bars aren't your thing on a sunny beach day! We went for taco Tuesday and decided to participate in Trivia Night. We usually pass at other bars because it can be a little intimidating, but this was perfect! Established in 1958.

Refurbished in 2022 49'rs Bar History: The Kittinger family purchased the property in 1926 and their Grandfather, Lowell Palen, built a motel on the site. In 1957, Johnny Johnston (also part of the Kittinger family), tore down the motel and had a strip center built. The 49'rs Tavern was born in 1958 and served the students at CSULB. On the walls, you will spy a collection of jerseys of friends that played as DIRTBAGS and others who went on to the Major Leagues. The Tavern is Western in keeping with the 49'rs days and their mascot is the same as CSULB, Prospector Pete. Where Are We Now? 49rs Tavern hopes to restore the strong ties to CSULB and community that the bar once had. We have given new life to the Tavern, hired new staff, and improved the food and drink offerings! Stop in and see what our new vibe is all about! We have 11 TVs to accommodate your favortie teams! It was also one of the few places open during the widespread COVID shutdown, and did a 'land office business' while most every other place was shut down. Drinks are reasonable and they offer a decent pour if you are ordering cocktails. Another 6am open, and think they are open late at night..I personally am not out at that time, but think they are open until 2am. Of course always lots of men, especially after noon..go figure! Owner obviously knows how to "hire" shall we say! Fun stop.

Before we get off track, let's get back to my opening line; when my life is in shambles, I come to V Room. It's fun, it has great music and things just don't feel as bad here. My last venture to ye olde V, my roommate broke up a fight in the girls room, my friends and I drunkenly sang along to Iggy Pop, and a hipster girl was hoisted out by the straps of her 90s era child's backpack. So, all things considered, my life may be in shambles, but at least I'm not brawling in the girls room. The drinks rule and the bartenders are the BEST.

Why even be a bartender if you're not going to provide a service. You don't get a tip for being terrible at your job. That's not how this works. Management will probably read this & brush it off because she'll have a lame excuse like we were the problem or needy. Nope. She is the problem. Even the regulars mentioned they can't stand when she bartends because her attitude is so terrible. Fix your system please. Get better people.

It just has that log ride smell to it and not in a bad way. They have two pool tables and a juke box. The bar top isn't very big. There's only about 6 or 7 seats if I recall correctly. My dog was also welcomed and loved by the staff and patrons. I even struck up a few fun conversations with others at the bar. Unfortunately, things took a turn during the second bartender's shift. She was inattentive and spent most of her time on her phone. Despite raising my hand a few times, I couldn't get her attention to order another drink. To make matters worse, she actively served others sitting at the bar while continuing to ignore me. While the first bartender made a great impression, the change in service left me disappointed. I did meet a new friend, which was a highlight, but now I know to enjoy my time there early and head out when the second shift starts.
