Mike makes the best bbq in Forney, though this isn't the best place I've ever been, they are damn well up there in my list. As someone else said, as far as hole-in-the-wall places go, this is one of the best you can get. Highly recommended. Go for the Ribs. They aren't quite fall off the bone variety but have damn good flavor. Really don't even need sauce. They have a $7 (after tax) special of chopped Beef BBQ sandwich with chips and drink that is a great value. As for sides, I always go baked beans and potato salad. read more

In Texas everyone's a BBQ expert, well I guess I'm no different. 4T's is good BBQ. Very consistent, good flavor, good quality meat and nice people. For me the test of good "Q" is the flavor of the meat. the MEAT not the sauce! I always get a kick out of people,,, they brag about their favorite BBQ place, then they order a chop beef sandwich? seriously! I look for the smoke ring on the meat, not dried out or cooked too fast. Every time I come here I know what to expect, Good consistent BBQ. Excellent. Can you compare this to Franklin, Snow, Pecan Lodge, and Muellers? Hell no. Why? Because it's actually better, and you don't have to stand in line for hours (Franklin), or drive for hundreds of miles round trip and pray they actually have food (Snow, Muellers), or deal with a parking crisis and rude city folk (Pecan Lodge). BBQ is intrinsically inconsistent but 4T's gets as close as possible. A locally owned joint has brisket with an excellent crust, smoke ring, fat to lean ratio; baby back ribs that DON'T fall off the bone because they aren't supposed to, but they produce a perfect bite and clean bone; pulled pork with a succulent juicy texture; even chopped beef sandwiches have a perfect fat / lean ratio; sauce is perfect and made in house as are all sides. Burnt ends on Fridays while they last. If you are driving eastbound 80 to Terrell, Tyler, Shreveport, or westbound to Mesquite, Dallas, or points beyond, take a minute and exit Pinson/740 in Forney, go south to stop light, turn left and its on your right. And go right past that Soulman's BBQ you will pass unless you like your chopped beef like it has been ground with a meat grinder. read more

This is a review based on Daniel Vaughn's recent review and blog posting. I have eaten at most of the best (and some of the worst) hole in the wall BBQ joints across Texas by way of introduction. Summary: Very Disappointing - Don't Waste Your Gas or Time to drive out here. Not sure what Daniel Vaughn had here but this is nowhere close to a 4 out of 5 like Franklin, Snow, Pecan Lodge and Muellers. Sausage was likely Eckrich and was a non starter. Brisket - bland and not cut well. Very little smoke. Ribs = Chewy. Best thing was the baked beans. Seriously - Daniel??!!! How can you you put it in the same sentence with the other four. We drove an hour to eat this based on your Review. We should have either 1) continued on to Stanley's and had seriously good 'que OR 2) saved time and eaten at Dickies or Spring Creek which are both much better than this. Hopefully Daniel will go back. I WILL NOT! read more

This has been my go to place for a long time and my post has nothing to do with the food because it's still great. But in the last 6 visits I've had a problem 4 times. The most recent was last Saturday at 12:08pm. They had been open an hour and were out of ribs, beef, turkey and regular sausage. Evidently someone came in and bought them out. IMO if you are running a restaurant with advertised hours then you should provide what you advertise during those hours. Imagine going to Babe's for lunch and they tell you they are out of chicken. Mike and his crew been around long enough to know how much they need to cover Saturday service and should have that amount set aside for those walk in customers. If someone calls that morning or comes in off the street and wants everything you have and you sell it to them you are telling those that have driven a long way (those following the Texas Monthly BBQ passport program) for their food that they don't matter. This I consider an extreme disservice. On three other occasions I drove over only to find them closed with a handwritten sign on the door. Once for a family emergency which I fully understand, but the other two were for a catering party. Catering is fine, but once again if you advertise yourself as a restaurant with posted hours, BE THERE ready to serve during those hours. Other places have casual part time staff to handle catering or do nothing but catering and 4T's needs to figure out which how to handle both sides because I'm not the only one getting tired of this nonsense. Or, change their business model to one like many others across the state that open at 11 and close when they are sold out. At least that way you've have fair warning. My advice to anyone who is planning on making a long distance drive for some of Mike's tasty 4T's BBQ call ahead. Otherwise you might have to settle for the great catfish across the street. read more

I had a difficult time writing this review. Barbecue is usually very good or very bad. This was right down the middle. The brisket was tender but didn't have much smoke flavor. The sides were fairly bland. The sauce was very sweet. I like sweet but it was just a little over the top but not obnoxious. The owner is very nice. In most cases you like it or you don't. Nice spot, smelled great, very busy, seems to be a place for locals with lots of foot traffic. Food was good but brisket and ribs were a bit dry. The house sauce was good but I'd steer clear of the Mac and cheese it was lousy, otherwise this place was pretty good. I'd eat there again. read more

Brisket had a great rub and taste but was a little dry(but it's a little late so I give them a pass) turkey was moist and good, rib was good but I prefer st Louis style ( charged 2 bucks for one rib kinda pricey)beans were canned but spiced up (meh) mac cheese had bacon so that's always good . Walking in I was greeted by a young tall boy with a big smile! To the left they have an opening to see the kitchen. A handsome gentleman greeted me with a big smile and a gorgeous lady by his side!! He cracked some jokes!!! And made me laugh. This place is definitely a mom and pop shop. I loved the atmosphere. So as the previous people said I too have tried Salt lick, Rudy's, and Pecan lodge. I have to say by far this place exceeds all expectations. Portion size of the meat was perfect. I had a big juicy bite of meat each time. I had the Philadelphia Cheese Steak. My husband had the sandwich platter with 2 sides. Wowowow! Let me tell you. Chopped beef stuffed with jalapeño sausage was to die for. The Cole slaw ( which I normally am not a fan of and my husband is) It was just the perfect crunch and sweetness and a back pepper taste which I feel that why I liked it. The baked beans had a thick sauce that was a nice bacon taste. I also got a side of seasoned fries. Which my son loved. They remind me of small skinny fries from steak n shake, size wise. Taste...much better! I'm sorry I didn't get to take any pics. The smell of the sandwiches was hitting all senses as my mouth was watering. ....and then it was go time for me devouring it.
