What was even more dramatically different from previous visits was the lack of cleanliness. Only one table was occupied, yet the rest of them were dirty. I had to go back to the shop and request more, which they did fulfill free of charge. The manager hasn't yelled out orders in a while so the more silent sound radiating throughout the shop is more pleasant to be in, especially in the mornings. The decor could still use some updating. I'll continue to go because the bagels are good and it's been a local spot for along time that I like to support.

The 2 ladies that were there were super sweet. There is some seating inside and outside. And you can see the old architecture of the building inside and out which makes it fun. We tried a glazed, apple fritter, & cinnamon twist. The twist was amazing! The glazed did not disappoint. The service was great, super friendly. We went an hour before closing & they still had lots to choose from. We will definitely go back, worth the drive for sure! The inside is small but has seating for at least 10 guests I'd say. Owner Jim Sparks is a wonderful man, and they are a strong community supporter. Their family has operated the business for more than 40 years. My apple fritter was the best I have ever enjoyed, and we decided that it was definitely worth the 45-minute ride! They also have great donuts and cookies, plenty of indoor seating, and historic Winterset photos. This is a jewel. Visit it; you'll love the entire experience.
