Absolutely worth going out of your way for! Sitting right in the middle of Marblehead- literally 5 corners intersect is the quaint French infused restaurant. Lovely atmosphere, largish bar. Our waitress was very helpful answering questions about the menu and service was spot on! Drinks were great pours- yes that IS important to me and a great value! We started with calamari and escargot. The calamari was lightly breaded and fried with peppers and a garlic aioli. The escargot was served in the special plate with lots of garlic and butter to dip the grilled sour dough bread. Yum. Next we got pomme frites- with ketchup and aioli. Crispy and thin and perfectly seasoned with salt. Then hubby got salmon over a faro mixed veggie and I got the hand- made pasta purses. I forgot what it was called but it was very good. Wish they added some extra on top as I didn't realize it was at the bottom on the plate until I got there. Too full for dessert sadly because I really wanted the creme brûlée !! read more

We love 5 Corners! The food is better than most high end meals you find in Boston. Our favorites are the pork chop and steak frites. Service is always friendly and great with our toddler. Also great for understanding and accommodating dietary restrictions. read more

We had a good mother's day dinner here but I think they might have been very understaffed. Our waiter was very busy the whole time and worked hard to sort things out but my son's order of steak with double fries ended up coming several minutes after everyone else's food. I had the brussel sprouts and then the carbonara which was good but not amazing. The wine list was good and our Gruner Veltliner was solid. Everyone was happy with their desserts (some affogatos with amaro and gelato). The food was good but for a place that is a little out of the way for us, it may be a little while until we make it back. read more

My partner and I visited Marblehead this past week, and our evening at 5 Corners Kitchen was the most memorable part of our trip. We went on Monday night and were seated right away. Our waiter was very attentive without being intrusive. I appreciate that we weren't treated like tourists by the staff, which can be very off-putting. Music was at a reasonable volume - which is to say, I couldn't even tell you what was playing since it didn't drown out conversation. Ambiance was warm and inviting - softly lit and romantic, relaxed but not overly casual. Price is consistent with quality. The food was really kind of perfect. We live in NYC and dine out often, and 5CK could easily rival some of our favorite spots at home. We had the kielbasa and schnitzel appetizer, which I'd happily eat as an entree if given the chance again. The kielbasa was expertly made (in-house, I believe!) and very tasty. I know several reviews complained about the $2 bread, but neither of us were offended by the cost and honestly, the portion was more than substantial. I'd rather a restaurant charge than waste food. The entrees are definitely the stars of the show. I ordered the steak frites and my boyfriend the salmon. I never finish my meals -- it's unusual if I eat more than half-- but I managed to clean my plate, down to the last frite. My gosh, is the steak good. I'm still thinking about it, days later. My boyfriend was very pleased with his salmon, too. We were giddy because everything was so tasty. My one regret is we didn't have room for dessert. I'm a gelato aficionado and would love to have tried theirs, which is house made. Alas, it gives us another good reason to go back. Every meal we have had since has been a bit disappointing and we both wished we had just gone back to 5CK instead. Our visit to Marblehead has come to an end though, but we will be back, wiser. Some of the complaints seem to have more to do with poor planning by the customer or their unrealistic expectations, though every restaurant has off nights. For the price point, I'm genuinely surprised by the lack of understanding of hospitality. When glasses were near empty, we were not asked if we wanted more. In fact, it seemed an inconvenience that we asked for another round. The staff, as a whole, seemed stressed and aggressive. When we were trying to ask about payments for our party, the waiter was completely dismissive. It took everything in me not to ask for his log-in number to run the cards for him, as he didn't seem to want to deal with any splitting of bills whatsoever. Consider this: "Hospitality: making your guests feel like they're at home, even if you wish they were." - Justine Vogt. I went over to Marblehead on Saturday night and tried out the new 5 Corners Kitchen, where Ladycakes used to be. Couldn't get a reservation so went early and ate at the bar, which was packed by 6:30. I have to say, it really was a fantastic meal. The basic premise is really high quality local food, prepared fairly simply, but to very high standards. Menu is expected to change as much as weekly, owing to trying to buy fresh and local food. Gotta get what's good. That's exactly what they delivered. I started with a mussels appetizer, sauteed in tomatoes, onions and garlic aioli. Served with grilled baguette with a garlic butter spread. Simply divine. Followed that with steak frites with hand cut fries with a garlic aioli dipping sauce, and watercress salad. Nicely grilled to a medium rare as ordered, totally satisfying. Tried one of my companions' oysters, and they were very good and fresh, and her skate, which is supposed to be a throw away fish, was beautifully prepared and tasty as well. Menu is diverse, going as simple as bacon cheeseburger and fries. The only weird thing was there only being one dessert option on a given day. Saturday it was a rhubarb panna cotta, which we passed on as we were stuffed. I think that decision is based on the small kitchen. Washed it all down with 3 Hennepin draft beers. Never had it before, nice wheat beer. Wine list was small but well thought out. Space is beautiful and clean. Lots of white, and big huge windows open to the street. Very classic. From my perch at the bar had a nice view directly into the kitchen. Easily the best meal I've had in Marblehead, and all of the entrees were under $20. They didn't taste like it. read more

Birthday dinner for three on a Sunday nite at 7:15. Plenty of street/local lot parking. Very nice ambiance, cool window views, great tables and unique lighting, easy to have a conversation. Oysters and soft shelled crab were great. Pork was overcooked, and pasta served with mussels had no broth and was dry as a bone (sent it back and they corrected this). Duck confit pasta with goose liver (whole, not pate) was nice. Lemon tart with blueberries was the highlight of the desert tray. Ambiance - 5 Wait staff - 3 Food - 2.5. Great food and service! My boyfriend and I came for a relaxed dinner on a Sunday evening. Tables were half full and created a low key chatter, adding to the nice ambience of the place. Food: The bread is great! Especially accompanying the escargot. We got the lobster & scallop risotto, which was rich and flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The steak frites was just right too, seared on the outside and exactly medium rare on the inside as requested. The hostess greeted us warmly when we came in and our server also had a great smile each time he checked in on us. We really had a great time and we look forward to our next visit! read more

We recently moved to Salem, and we were searching for a restaurant that balanced great food with a relaxing atmosphere. 5CK did an amazing job. My wife loved the fresh and well balanced tuna tartare while I enjoyed the Brussels sprouts with a slight bit of heat. Our entrees of salmon and cod were cooked to perfection, but it was the combination of flavors and accompanying vegetables/grains/sauces that made them stand out. The Edison bulbs throughout set a warm tone that is echoed by the friendly wait staff. Service was incredibly polite and quick to respond without feeling stuffy. The cocktails were well balanced, and service from the bar was surprisingly quick given how packed the bar area was. We look forward to many more meals at 5 Corners Kitchen! read more

Still great after several visits, always impresses the visiting relatives. The deserts are new to me and were SO good! Salmon is my favorite entree... I like the salads as well... mine, seemed a little bit busy last night, way too much variety. Best dining experience I've had in quite some time, and I live in NYC. The atmosphere is elegant and upscale; the wait staff is kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating. I ordered the Grilled Pizzetta, specifying that they go light on the cheese and not drizzle extra oil on top because that's gross and I'm calorie-conscious. They indulged my request and brought me a remarkably flavorful, unique pizza-like dish. The balsamic and the wild mushrooms tasted so smokey and rich, and the greens added just the right dose of bitterness to compliment everything else. I am normally not one to fantasize about food, but my God. This. I also asked for a side of steamed vegetables. They brought me an artful and delicious plate of Brussels sprouts and haricot verts. Two people dining with me ordered the pork shank and loved it; the fourth person really enjoyed the scallops. Beautiful bathrooms, too. You can always judge a restaurant by the quality of their bathrooms. Therefore, to conclude and adjourn, you should go here if you are in the area. 5 Corners is back, and I couldn't be happier!! The new space is absolutely beautiful. We stopped in for their first brunch this morning and I was so happy to see my favorites- the asparagus, porcini and boursin omelette and the unreal blueberry brioche french toast- still on the menu. I've been dreaming about this french toast for the past 2 years or so that they've been closed! The coffee is fantastic, and service is great. We can't wait to get this place back into our regular restaurant rotation! read more

First time eating at 5 Corners Kitchen last night and we had a great meal here. Restaurant was full when our party of four arrived at 7:00. We did not have a reservation but were quickly seated in the bar area. Extremely accommodating waitstaff. The mussels appetizer were some of the best I've tasted... absolutely fresh, tender and flavorful. Same with my entree of Skate Wings...fantastic. Service was a little slow on the main course but this was a full house on a Saturday night. Easily forgiven. Will definitely be back again. read more

Chocolate non dairy gelato/sorbet fabulous. we've been trying to eat only at outdoor tables, but our inside table was placed well away from others. My only reason for withholding a star is the sequence of dishes. We were sharing various dishes to taste a wider variety and it would have been nice to not have them grouped together. Usually, in a 'fine' restaurant, staff will make that suggestion so you appreciate flavors of each preparation, but our waiter wanted to group them. Place was very busy. i recommend as food was delicious. But take a firm stand with waiter! read more

No one would have taken our order if we didn't point out to a hostess that our server had disappeared, and our food would never have come if we didn't complain on two separate occasions. We sat in this place for an hour and a half without food. In this little town with mostly ok paces to choose we found this wonderful and delightful place to go. For us its about the service, the food and ambiance. It starts with the front desk staff and how the greet you and extends all the way to everyone involved in the service process. We opted to skip our table reservation and sit at the bar. A beautiful bar with seating that gave us a great view of the restaurant and windows looking out. We love sitting at the bar as we like to sit together ( we never get why tables for two have to be across from each other), and we alway wonder will the bartender be friendly and focused on "us" as they always have conflicts with bar tasks too. Well we could not have been more pleased with the bartender. Super friendly, efficient and well versed in the menu options. We had such a good time with him. Very impressed with how the food is brought out and served by wait staff who took the time to explain further the menu items presented. In my case it was an oyster selection and for the folks next to us it was the cheese selections. So well done! We were lucky to be between to couples, locals, who knew the bartender by name and who were very friendly to us ( nice to meet you John H!). The food was wonderful including a home-made cavatelli - wow. This treasure is only 17 miles out of Boston, but no direct highways to get there, so what! - find a way to check this place out!! read more

My favorite Restaurant in Marblehead. Everything on the menu is excellent. My favorites are the Scallops and the Boneless half Chicken. The service is Excellent headed by Restaurant Manager, JOSE. I chose this restaurant to have an anniversary dinner with my husband because it was last minute, close by, and it had a cheese plate on the appetizer menu (which my husband likes). That it was a French restaurant was only a bonus. It was intimate, the service was excellent, and we both enjoyed our dinner immensely. This is specifically regarding the burger. Usually I'm excited for a gourmet burger but the amount of liquid smoke used was so inappropriate my mouth felt like a charcoal fire pit. My husband agreed and couldn't eat my leftovers either. Fries weren't very hot and since they're shoestring style were very hard by the time they were served. My husband liked his chicken meal so I'll probably go back and try something else. read more

I recently visited 5 corners with friends to celebrate my bachelorette party. I will preface this review with the fact that I once worked at the restaurant. I had never had the chance to "experience" the restaurant as a guest. I have since moved away and have not been in the area for years. We were sat promptly upon arrival and the support staff was quick to fill our water glasses. The service was top notch. The food was absolutely amazing. My girlfriends had not previously had dinner here and were blown away. It was an incredible evening. read more

I would have given this restaurant 4 stars, but it seemed like there were so many rules, that it just irked me. Standing at the bar having drinks with 2 friends, we had one seat and wanted to order some appetizers before we sat down for a full meal (which we didn't know how long that would be because we didn't have a reservation). I could not believe that they would not let us order any food unless we were all seated at the bar. I had a hard time getting over that! After we all finally sat down and had some food, it was all very good -- tasty brussel sprouts, a delicious broccoli panzanella salad, and the grandma's pasta special that night was very tasty. Our bartender/server, although the locals seem to love, didn't really make me feel welcome as an out of towner. So, overall food and atmosphere nice, but I'd love to know the rationale behind not wanting more of our money at the bar!! read more

Horrible experience and ruined my Mother's Day. The rudeness of staff, management and owners were beyond belief. Interesting when I worked in the restaurant business the customer was always right and you did everything you could to insure their happy experience. Guess things have changed. Marblehead is a small town and that entitled attitude won't get you far. Not to mention the waitress made the error. And I was there with my 90 year old father. Will NEVER go there again. read more

I'd give 5 stars for brunch - however, I'm not a fan of their dinner menu, hence the 4 stars. We sat at the bar for brunch, I got the breakfast bowl and it was GREAT. Just what I imagined. I felt as though the bartender wasn't super attentive, which was strange because the bar wasn't packed at all. The décor makes the atmosphere and feel very comfortable. In terms of the dinner menu, it is not vegetarian friendly or kid friendly. A restaurant of this type was needed in Marblehead and it serves its purpose. read more

I always look forward to dining at 5CK with my husband for that "special dinner" (i.e. anniversary, birthday, etc. or when we are lucky enough to score a gift certificate) and I adore meeting friends at 5CK for cocktails and apps. 5CK's food, service and ambience makes every visit a celebration! I had the pleasure of dining once again at 5CK last week, this time with my college aged niece and nephew who were visiting from Southern California, and also my mom. The menu offered something for everyone in my group. My nephew chose a vegetarian entree, my niece ordered tuna tartare from the apps menu and I ordered the special seafood entree which was inspired with Thai flavors. My mom, who is always on a quest for the perfect burger, was entirely delighted with the 5CK burger! Everyone loved their meals and we happily shared bites from each other's plates. The service, as always, was spot on and the ambience perfect for our lively dinner conversation! Our evening at 5CK was wonderful and I was happy to introduce my west coast niece and nephew to this special New England restaurant which always delivers a wonderful palate of flavors! read more

And I was torn between getting the chicken or salmon as an entree. My friend got the salmon and I got the chicken and after trying both, the chicken is 100% the right choice!
