This review is a long time coming. I've been dying to tell the world how rude these people are. Every single time I have been here I have been treated terribly. The best is that the rude wait staff demand that you give them your appetizer and dinner order at the same time. Who has ever heard of that? Do they think it makes them elite? Please. I have experienced Brunch and dinner at this restaurant no less than 12-times in the last year. My wife made reservations for a special Father's Day Brunch with our family....it was a disaster. Reservations were for 10am...we were seated at 10:05, but then had to wait almost 20-minutes for a drink order. Ordered from the menu and it took almost 90-minutes for our plates to arrive...cold. No one from the Onsite Staff even offered to take anything off the bill. Would never recommend this restaurant in the future.... I'm not sure if I would give the service that I got 1 star. I decided to make 5 corners my night out to myself before quarantine. I sat at the bar and ordered the pommes frites- super greasy and not satisfactory whatsoever. I then ordered a martini, that took about 35 minutes to receive, mind you I was sitting at the bar. I then asked to speak to someone and the manager on duty Elizabeth was extremely rude to me, she didn't even apologize for the service being poor but instead blamed it on a busy night. Hostess was incredibly rude. Not greeted at the front door...just looked at. I said "hello" not her. When I said 7 she asked rudely if I had a reservation (the restaurant was at 50% capacity...with many empty tables). She sighed and said it would be a few minutes while she got a table together for us. I have to say that we considered walking out. She was just THAT rude. The brunch was excellent but I swear she was giving us dirty looks the entire meal. It was Sunday at 11:00 on 8/18. She should not be a hostess...or even a server. She tainted the entire experience.We did have 2 children with us (the only thing I could think of might be causing her such distaste for us) but they are 8 and are well behaved. Great food. My only other complaint is that the menu itself (literally the menu) was a book type that included both the brunch and the lunch menu underneath it. The lunch underneath was not being served...so the fact that it was there was just laziness. If you are going to have 2 menus you should only present the one that is relevant. AND, because there were two, the papers were falling out. Either give the menu with one paper in it or just give the paper. My friend and I were really looking forward to our dinner at 5CK - we'd made plans to have brunch a couple of weekends but due to various things our plans had fallen through. Finally we were able to get there for dinner on a Friday night - needless to say, expectations were high. The food was good (maybe not $25/entree good), but the service was sorely lacking. We both ordered drinks and the waitress was really odd about carding us - First of all, I have absolutely no problem being carded - I get it, they have to cover their ass, and I'm happy to comply. As a youngish looking 29 year old, I'm used to it. However, there is a right (i.e., polite) way and a wrong (i.e., accusatory) way to ask for someone's ID. Not to mention, getting the third degree in an environment where the tables are VERY close together. A simple, discreet "can I see your ID?" is fine. Basically what was supposed to be a fun girls night at a new restaurant turned into a weird, pretentious experience - it must have thrown our waitress off to serve people under 50 because she forgot to put in our appetizer. It shocks me that the most common thing throughout the reviews is the poor quality of the service and yet it seems to continue being unaddressed. We also were less than impressed with the service and felt dismissed, unimportant, and almost an annoyance even though it was a Tuesday night and not nearly crowded enough to be considered busy. The food was good. We got the cheese and meat plate to start. It was OK. Not worth how much they charge though the meats were tasty. My husband got the homemade pasta with smoked beef tongue and I got the scallops. Both were tasty though redundant with their flavoring which got boring after a while. Again, tasty but not really worth the price. Dessert was also OK. We got the lemon tart to split and portion size was good but it tasted more like a store bought lemon pie. Their wine by the glass Bordeaux was actually quite good and worth the 9$ pour but really they should have more options in that price range. I made reservations for dinner on a Sunday night (it was a good thing I did make reservations as the place was slammed). My husband and I sat down at the table, looked at the menu and they brought over some delicious bread which we devoured after ordering our dinner. We were chatting about this, that and the other thing and our waiter came over and said, so sorry for the long wait, please take these as our apology and gave us a heaping plate of the most amazing french fries on the planet. they were crispy and covered in some type of "asian "marinade"" we really weren't sure what was on them, but we could NOT stop eating them as they were so unbelievably good. We hadn't realized it had even been so long (almost 45-60 minutes) as we had filled up on the delicious bread. By the time we got our meal, we weren't even that hungry..but I got the chicken (as I'd read it was awesome) oh and it was stupendous. Very moist and flavorful and huge as well. My husband got some type of pasta w/a meat sauce and ate every last bite, he RARELY joins the CPC - Clean Plate Club, so that has to speak volumes as to how good the pasta and sauce was. I have been going to 5CK since the opening and always have had a great meal and overall experience.....until this evening. Our only problem with this evening, and it was a big one, was the rude bartender. Unfortunately our biggest mistake was sitting down at the bar for cocktails and than ordering food. The female bartender could not be bothered to stop whatever she was doing (slicing lemons or limes) and take our cocktail orders. If that was not rude enough, our order was wrong. Our next mistake was staying at the bar. We were with another friend of ours who wanted to stay for dinner so we ordered our meals from the unfriendly and too busy too look up bartender yet again. She was cranky and so unfriendly. Just to be clear, it was not Sarah, who is lovely, but the other female bartender, with stick straight hair. Five Corners kitchen is back! Prior to the tragic fire that closed our beloved 5CK this popular Marblehead eatery was our favorite spot. We have been anticipating it reopening for some time now. The wait is over and the newly renovated Five Corners has not skipped a beat. Tonight was opening night and it felt as though they had never closed. There was zero first night awkwardness and the food and service were off the charts! I don't know how Chef Barry does it but somehow he manages to maintain the highest standards of quality while creating a contemporary stylish mojo that makes you never want to leave. Oysters, beet salad, escargot, chicken liver mousse, skate wing, striped bass and more. Our party of four laughed, ate, drank and at one point we all looked at each other and said "who needs Boston?" Had dinner at 5 Corners Kitchen this past Sunday. This was our first visit, and it was totally delightful. Nice and airy, lots of windows to let in the natural light, mirrors inside to make the place seem expansive, and fun, funky light fixtures. Hip, chic, urban. Not at all what I've ever experienced in Marblehead before. Our server was a wonderful woman who knew and loved the food and set the tone for our night beautifully. We told her what we were having for dinner and asked for her advice regarding what red wine to have; she came back with two tasting glasses for us to try. Periodically she would check in to see if we were enjoying a particular dish or if we needed anything. Another server also kept tabs on us, asking how we liked something. He was as enthusiastic as she was about the food, and I've got to say, their energy about the place was infectious. Fabulous warm bread and butter! Warm and crispy baguette with the creamiest butter. I ordered the onion soup gratinee, and I have to say, it was the best I've had in years. Magnificent deep, rich stock, loads of delicious onions, and a fabulous gruyere melted to perfection on top. Definitely order this if you like onion soup. Mussels were really good as was the tuna tartare. We also had a fabulous dessert, some sort of cakey tart with prunes in it. It tasted way better than I'm making it sound! One thing I'll say is that the menu isn't geared for kids (I don't have any), so I wouldn't come for a family meal. The entrees are in the mid-$20's, but you can have a few smaller plates, which is what we did. They have a good looking burger for $13, which we might try next time. Drinks were reasonably priced. I would have given this restaurant 4 stars but my mushroom pasta dish was too rich... drenched in a creamy sauce... it canceled out the good homemade pasta, wild mushrooms and asparagus... and where was that truffle taste? Marblehead is a better town with the arrival of 5 Corners Kitchen. Been there 5 or 6 times with my wife. The menu is thoughtful and different. The food is great. The atmosphere is sophisticated, but a bit noisy and the tables are somewhat tight. The service is attentive and not intrusive. Steak frites & Skate are are terrific, signature dishes. I like the chicken preparation as well. Good salads. Wine is decanted and served in carafes (at three pricing points). There is something for everyone. But, I'm selfish - don't go. The food and atmosphere were perfect! I hate going to a place and not being able to have a conversation. Even though the space was small, we could hear each other and talk normally. Even when they started to play music, it was not obnoxious to the point that people try to talk over the music thus making it unbearably loud. It was a wonderful simply designed restaurant with a short wall that separated the dining room from the bar. We ordered the mussels and they were yummy. I got the special of the night which was duck. Oh my gosh, my mom makes a wonderful duck, but this duck might almost rival hers! I tried my friend's steak frites and it was also perfect. They were both made to perfection. The steak was a perfect medium-rare (which is how the restaurant makes it) while the duck had a nice crispy skin. I do not know why I did not get dessert. The creme brulee was huge and the carmalized top was crunchy! I felt bad having several bites of my friend's dessert. I am not sure about the service that other people had, but our waitress was excellent. She knew what to suggest and could answer questions about the wine list (which was pretty big). Our dinner took 2.5 hours from start to finish, but it was one of the most enjoyable hours I had eating and conversing with friends. I am from NYC... so of course I am a bit of a food snob. That being said, I am always disappointed by the lackluster/expensive "gourmet" dining in Marblehead (besides fried seafood!). We heard good things about 5 Corners, so we gave it a go. Excellent beet salad and soft shelled crab for apps.... had one of the best pork chops ever and a Mediterranean dogfish dish that was very good as well. Ended things with a creme brulee that was served in what many would consider a casserole sized plate: HUGE. Very excited and happy to have this in town after years of BLAAAAH. Went here to have brunch to celebrate my birthday. Everything was fantastic! Drinks, food and service. The atmosphere is modern and elegant (something that is lacking in Mhead). They are almost always packed, so make a reservation online or by calling in advance. We had pancakes, benedicts, bloody marys and coffee. Wish we had room in our stomach for more. Having lived in Marblehead for over 25 years off and on, I am always stunned how average the restaurants typically are. Well, that has changed! Finally an eatery that has the perfect balance of ambiance, superb service and delicious cuisine. I had the steak and pomme frittes...crispy and perfectly seasoned, these french fries were served with an unforgettable garlic aoili...perfection! Steak was cooked to order and melted in my mouth. My husband had the pork chop - also a huge hit! The wine and beer selection was eclectic and superb and made you feel like you were in a metropolitan city....a true escape! The restaurant has been packed since it opened....and I am thrilled at it's success! We've eaten here 4 times. Two for dinner, two Brunches. Each time the food is really good. The pastas far surpass any other dishes we've eaten. The prices are a bit high but the service is great. We enjoy the brunch almost more than the regular menu. We tend to go here for late night dinners alone, or Brunch with friends/family. I had a Cucumber Martini which was delicious! We haven't been during a busy time so we always get to choose our table. They are close together, so maybe avoid the rush. My favorite part is that they're open till 11pm during the week. The Side Entrance wasn't clearly marked so we marched into the bar by mistake and were mis-directed to the hostess station, we ended up not bothering and found a spot at the Bar. Too Complicated and slightly annoying. The bar waitress was really attentive. I wanted a glass of champagne to celebrate, but it was over $15 per glass, I was then offered Proceco or Cava as a second less pricey option - neither of which will suffice. I really wish they had a few more options. Bloody Mary's all around too its place. Portions were a bit small in some corners. $6.95 for an egg cup sized scoop of Gelato - although freshly made onsite, seems a bit much. Overall the atmosphere and service was worth the trip, food was decent quality. We were able to chat up a couple next to us which added to the interest for a brunch meeting among friends! Came for brunch and was not disappointed. The eggs benedict was very good, as was the homemade bacon. However, the French Toast with blueberry compote was ridiculously good.
