This review covers a 6-year period interacting with this business, most recently involving an incredibly high quality total interior restoration of my collector vehicle. Six years ago (2010) I began discussing the restoration of my vehicle with Mike (the owner) because I had seen that this business had existed at the same location for over 10 years and I had received very solid recommendations from friends who had used the business for boat interior work. Mike and I met on an annual basis after that and based on some of Mike's recommendations, as well as others, I started purchasing the key materials and components that would be necessary for the project, keeping in mind that the manufacturer of the vehicle had already discontinued providing a flow of new replacement parts. As a result, parts on hand in dealers' inventories on a nationwide basis were all that would ever be available, and were being rapidly depleted. Approximately two months ago after acquiring as many parts and materials as I could I met with Mike to discuss the project. I was surprised that he remembered more about our previous discussions than I did, and he continued to provide expert advice as to how to proceed. At that time 5 Star was covered-up with all kinds of work, including cars, trucks, motorcycles and furniture. As a result, we had to delay the start of my project until there was an opening in the schedule. During that time Mike provided firm quotes for all the work to be done, recommended additional work that would add value, recommended delaying work that probably would not add value, and overall provided excellent advice and customer service. The work started as scheduled and I picked up the vehicle today. The vehicle is now heading to a body shop for exterior restoration work. Because of that certain components of the interior have not been reattached and therefore I am not adding pictures at this time, but will when the restoration is complete. During the course of the interior restoration I came to fully appreciate the dedication to customer service and quality workmanship that Mike and his employees put forth. As opposed to other shops, I was encouraged by Mike to come and view progress as often as I wanted, and I did so. It did not matter how busy people were, Mike and his employees always took the time to show me progress, and allow me to ask questions. As a result, there were no bad surprises. But there were a few good surprises when I was shown work that had been done that was not in the quote, that was not going to be charged for (and was not) and that substantially improved the overall look of the restoration. As always in these types of projects the little things make a big difference. At the time the project was started, Mike and I agreed that we would look at the top molded plastic cover of the dashboard as a separate bid. This piece needed to be restored, but because the plastic had gotten brittle over the years, there was a real concern that the part would pretty much disintegrate upon removal. Mike provided the quote for this work that I accepted and the work commenced. Unfortunately, due to age and exposure to high sun heat, the piece all but fell apart when it was being removed. Rather than just putting it back on (which could have been done) and saying "well, that cannot be fixed" one of 5 Star's "artists" took on the challenge to restore this part. I use the word "artist" because how else do you describe a craftsman that can refabricate such a plastic part by hand, strengthen the part in the process, and make it better than brand new. The final result is this: the combination of completing all the work on the original bid at the quoted price, plus doing all the little extra work without additional charge, plus refabricating the dash piece for what surely had to have been a price that did not cover the labor costs, has produced an interior restoration that has added value to the vehicle far in excess of the costs for the work. read more

I approached Mr. Mike Verizzi about a project for Clear Springs High School (League City). We built a vehicle for the Shell Eco-Marathon (a competition for high schools and universities to compete for the best fuel mileage). Our vehicle was a scale model of a 1959 Fiat which set records in 1967. The seat Mr. Verizzi made from scratch was an exact copy of the real seat. Correction, the seat Mr. Verizzi made WAS BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL. It was a competition vehicle, however Mr. Verizzi used the highest quality material and thread, not to mention the quality of the workmanship! Three(3) days after I dropped off the drawing, Mr. Verizzi called me. I thought he had a question, however he said the seat was ready even though he was extremely busy!!! In addition, he donated the entire seat to the school!!!! Mr. Verizzi runs a great business, has awesome employees AND performs outstanding work! With the recent rain, I had water puddles in my trunk and along the floors behind my back seats in my BMW Z3 convertible. I took my car to the dealer and after a diagnostic test that cost about $160 dollars, I was told my soft top was leaking because a rear bow seal was damaged and I would need a new soft top at the expense of greater than $4000 dollars. I was taken aback because my soft top is in excellent condition and is not very old. I decided to get a second opinion at 5 Star Upholstery. Mike confirmed my soft top was in excellent condition. He quoted a price to water test and repair my leak which was less than $200 dollars. I made an appointment to have my car water tested and repaired. I was told the water leak was coming from a different location that required tightening some bolts and sealing the adjacent areas. I am thankful that 5 Star Upholstery treated me so well and literally saved me thousands of dollars for an unnecessary repair from the dealer's perspective. read more

I purchased a golf cart and took it to 5 star upholstery to have it customized. Omg what an amazing job they did! Not only was it beautiful but the craftsmanship was awesome. These people know what they're doing and take pride in their work. This is the 5th item I have taken to 5 star. I had them upholster furniture, a motorcycle seat, and my corvette seats along with my golf cart now. The owner and his employees are great honest people and the friendship we have developed is special. I'm not only a customer but part of the family. I've past this shop for 20 years. Finally stopped in for leather couch repair and it was a great experience. Mike and his team treated me like family. The work they do there is simply amazing. The walls show how good they are: classic cars, show cars and awards galore. They made my repairs same day, and it is now better than brand new. They know exactly what it takes to do the job right and are upfront about the expense. You could make a deal on a handshake at this shop but they give you a written estimate because they back their word. Go to someone who has been serving the League City community for over 20 years. I want to thank 5 Star upholstery for going above and beyond. I went in needing an oem seat cover replaced in my charger. During the swap it was discovered there was a defect in the seat back foam that was not allowing the new cover to fit properly. Fixing the issue took way more time than what was originally expected and 5 Star refused my attempt to pay for their extra time. I did however leave a tip for the employee working on my car in appreciation for the great work he did. 5 Star was also extremely careful when working in and around my car. 5 Star Upholstery recovered our chair. They did a great job and in a very short time. We were surprised how quickly it came back. They lined up the pattern in the front of the chair from the bottom piece and the seat cushion. This was very nice attention to detail! They add a piping detail on the foot stool, arm covers and an extra pillow. We love the work they did! read more
