Have been here before and it was super. So we reserved to take some out of town guests. Table was great and server friendly and pretty attentive. About 10-15 minutes after sitting a group of about 15 men were seating a couple of tables away. Without going into all the details suffice it to say that they were yelling, standing, clapping VERY loudly (btw, these were 60/70 year olds). One table between us didn't finish their coffees and left, another got seated nearby and immediately asked for a change (which we later realized we should have demanded). Finally, at one point the m'aitre d/manager came to our table, didn't say a word, listened to us being upset, and then he turned and walked away, never to be seen or found again - totally ineffectual. He could have gently asked them to tone it down - or stopped serving drinks. He could have offered us a different table. HE CHOSE TO DO NOTHING. Our mistake was to not just get up and leave (entrees average $40+). Our server was sympathetic, but certainly not her place to take action. 50 Ocean honored my Saturday evening reservation for a table by the windows overlooking the ocean. There is a great ocean view and pleasant interior, but the restaurant is very noisy. In addition, the menu is also quite pretentious. Fresh and warm French Bread was served with Butter and Roasted Garlic. My wife's companion started the meal with a Peach Bellini ($9) that was delicious and reasonably priced. My wife had water, and I had a very crisp and dry Murphy-Goode "The Fume" North Coast Sauvignon Blanc ($9). That was a reasonable price for the 6-oz serving. My wife had a Shrimp Cocktail ($16) that was described as, "fire grilled and chilled, smoked tomato shaved ice, lemon basil emulsion". Very impressive except there were only five medium shrimp, and the smoked tomato shaved ice tasted like liquid smoke in colored water. The five nickel-sized dots of the lemon basil emulsion were a good complement to the shrimp. My wife's companion enjoyed the Shrimp Pot Pie ($14). This was described as, "sherry cream, roasted tomatoes, grilled artichokes, 'chesapeake' puff pastry". This was an ample serving of food meant as a small plate, not a dinner. Small to medium shrimp were in the dish. I started with a Ceasar Salad ($9) which was tasty, but it had an off-putting yellow color. The salad description was, "creamy egg dressing, roasted garlic cloves, olive dusted croutons, shaved pecorino". Following the salad, I had Mussels ($17) in a broth of roasted shallots, white wine-chili broth, and fresh tomatoes. It was also served with more of the warm French Bread. There were about two dozen, very small mussels in a thin but tasty broth. Since it was the birthday of my wife's companion, she was given a comped serving of the Birthday Bomb, which was a Dark Chocolate Shell containing Chocolate Mousse on a plate decorated with Fudge and more of the Mousse. She was in rapture over the dessert. My wife and I shared Cinnamon-dusted Beignets ($9) stuffed with Dulche de Leche, served over Blueberry Compote, and accompanied with Chantilly Crème. The Beignets were good expecially when eaten with the delicious Blueberry Compote Overall, I thought the preparations were professional but the quality of the produce was lacking. I have been getting crab cakes in Delray for 20 years and this was by far the worst one ever. Paid 20$ for their "colossal" crab cake. Absolutely nothing colossal about it. You get only one thin, tiny crab cake. The coating on the crab cake almost had the texture of jerky and was not crunchy at all. Server had no personality and screwed up the bills as well. Only redeeming thing is the lobster bisque. If I come back it'll only be for the soup. read more

Definitely come here on a weekday. We drove by Sunday night to check out bostons and it was packed! Parking was no where to be found. Ended up calling on Tuesday to figure out parking situation and how busy it was. Bostons hostess suggested this place cause they take reservations. But honestly we didn't need reservations at any place at 7pm. Parking meter is free at 8. Otherwise it's 1.50 an hour. We parked right across the street. Although the waitress did let me in on a lil secret that you can park for free at Bank of America which is a 5 min walk. Valet is also available for 6$ for 3 hours. The waitress at 50 ocean was very nice. When she found out it was our first time, she went through the menu and told us her favorite things in each section. We ended up getting two appetizers: cheese slate and the fancy "onion dip" came with homemade chips. Both were great and waitress boxed up everything we couldn't finish. Husband ordered the double stuffed lobster roll and I ordered the Caesar salad and lobster bisque. Waitress made a big deal of how big this lobster roll was 7 oz. It was about the size of a small nerf football. But my husband couldn't finish it all. Very juicy and good flavor. However, we are from Oklahoma so we don't have a huge opinion on good lobster. My lobster bisque was great! I've had many lobster bisque and love them all. Caesar salad was made with their special homemade dressing. It had a unique flavor to it. I ate it all, but I don't it was my favorite. It took a really long time to get our entrees. But I think they were waiting on our finishing our appetizers. We kinda slowly picked at them, so I think it confused the staff. The view is beautiful! Because it wasn't crowded we got seated at one of the tables with the huge window that overlooks the ocean. For a fine dining experience, not impressed. Hoped for a better experience on all fronts from the #1 rated restaurant in Delray, according to Trip Adviser. My date had the steak which was amazing, yet started with the lobster bisque which wasn't anything special. It's not just about the lobster, but the liquid which was just average. I had the grouper which was delicious, but small and there were only 4 asparagus spears on the plate, leaving me hungry after the meal. Service was spotty--seemed there was one waitress for the entire restaurant, and therefore pulled in many directions. And when the server arrived, he reversed our orders both times--for the apps and mains. I guess there's a certain expectation for fine dining...and this place fell short and wasn't a special experience. read more

Now, if only the food and the limited snooze of a menu, particularly at lunch, would cooperate, this place might be worthy of four or five stars. Service was okay. Cindy Hadam and I have been coming to DelRay for many years and always stop in to 50 Ocean expecting a terrific meal and experience. Our expectations were so high we made an advanced reservation for Christmas dinner 2021. Cindy has been in the restaurant business for over 30 years. The menu offered 2 entree items and one was already not available when we arrived for our 7pm reservation. The substitute for the prime rib was inedible and the ham was so overcooked it curled at the edges and was very tough. The manager replaced the ham with pork but overall a very disappointing meal. The check was over $200, but we made sure the servers, who were excellent and did the best they could got a 50% tip despite the meal disaster. One of the best hidden gems on the ocean in Delray. Went for breakfast yesterday after a killer boot camp. First customers. My gal and I ordered the buttermilk pancakes and the short rib egg dish. We wound up waiting a LONG time and after two cups of coffee (great btw) the manager came over and apologized. The pancake batter apparently came out terrible and she told the kitchen to redo Anyway when it finally arrived it was outstanding as was the short rib eggs! When it came time to leave the waiter said the meal was complimentary!! Now, how often does a restaurant these says do that? We were floored and left the waiter who was great a super tip! My friend and I went for happy hour - had a glass of wine and appetizer each. The bar was pretty empty. Our bartender roofied both of us. Terrifying experience at such a nice place. Went to 50 Ocean for the Thanksgiving Dinner. 4 course Prix Fixe menu. Had a table outside and a great view of the beach. Family was very excited as we go here often and generally have had a good experience. In general the dinner was so-so. First course was butternut squash bisque which was very good and we all enjoyed. Second course of Iceberg Wedge was where things started to go downhill. Salads arrived and 2 of them were incomplete without the tomatoes or bacon from the description. The third course which was supposed to be the main thanksgiving meal came to the table looking like an appetizer as the portions were extremely small, literally a couple of tablespoons of potatoes and dressing and all plates were missing the traditional gravy. The Fourth Course of Pumpkin Chiffon cake was by far one of the worst desserts I have had in a restaurant. Go here during their happy hour! They have the best selection of seafood at reasonable prices during the happy hour. I've tried pretty much everything on the HH menu and my top recommendations, in order, are the fried clam, mussels, lobster roll and shrimp pot pie - the rest are just blah. Get here early as the HH menu is only offered at the bar, otherwise you'll have to order from their regular menu. I don't have anything bad nor anything too great to say about their regular dinner menu. The fish are fresh but they could be bland at times and that's quite a turnoff for a pricey restaurant. My husband and I came for our wedding anniversary dinner. Right away, our lovely server Nick brought us two mini bottles of La Marca Prosecco - compliments of the house, to celebrate our anniversary, which was so nice! We ordered three appetizers to share: the special of the night which was a lobster Caprese salad, and then the fried clams and smoked fish. All three were very tasty but the lobster Caprese was absolutely amazing!! We decided to share the Filet Cindy entree - filet mignon with lobster, mashed potatoes and broccolini in Romesco sauce. I ordered it medium well, but our server misheard me and brought it out medium rare. No biggie! My husband and I did not think this was a big deal and simply sent the plates back to the kitchen to cook the meat a little longer. Our server, along with the manager, came over and apologized profusely! We kept reassuring them it was not a big deal. They comped my husbands martini and our dessert (in addition to the initial complimentary Prosecco!) which was certainly very kind but we didn't make a fuss at all. We had 8 pm reservations for two weeks. We arrived at 7:55 and were not seated until 8:20, AND at a table we did not want. After being seated it took another 10-15 minutes to get our order of wine and finally order our food. My father in law orders the New York strip- they are out (at 8:45)! He settles on chicken. I get the lobster roll and grilled octopus. It takes a severely long time to get our food. Should have just gone to Bostons below- at least down there you get what you pay for! The food at 50 Ocean was great- the service was terrible. For the price, you are better of visiting Mortons. This place needs an overhaul. Also, don't eat outside. The bar next door (same ownership) blast house music throughout dinner. Don't get me wrong, I like house, but not at a nice dinner at 8pm! read more

This was our 2nd time here, the 1st time was a few years back and we had a great dinner and service. This time was a completely different experience. It started out great as they seated us right away with an amazing view of the ocean, but then it took forever for the waiter to greet us. He finally greeted us and we ordered wine and that actually came in a short amount of time, but then he disappeared.... they didn't even bring us bread or see if we were ready to order. After two glasses of wine & 1/2 hour later I kept asking for bread or at least our appetizer as we were starving. Our dinner reservation was 7:30 and we didn't get even a morsel of food until 8:15ish. We ordered the grouper and that was a little dry. we also ordered the charcuterie tray, muscles, octopus and steak which were ok but very pricey. It really started to go down hill but I stayed and order a drink called Cosmo, you would think not hard to mess up right? Oh no, first off, don't server it warm, never ever add pineapple juice to it. You charge me for a small bowl of chips, seriously after the mess up above? I ordered mussels and charcuterie plate. The mussels? The restaurant was sprinkled with patrons but she took care of us! We had the best table! Our server, Pavel, amazing. The extra servers/kitchen personnel kept coming to table to deliver food. Now, we like good food and believe in "you get what you pay for" yet we like to have more variety and share. 50 Ocean let's us order one app, one soup, one entree, 4 drinks, etc. I do not want to be locked into 2 entrees. Wonderful food and great ambiance We walked over from the Marriott where we were staying to dine here. The service was excellent and the waiter very attentive. We had the ceviche as an appetizer and it was great. The main course was just as delicious. The oddest thing was their bread was some of the best I have had in the longest. It was flaky and served warm. It was just as memorable as the meal. I can't say that for many restaurants. We brought the kids also and they ate their entire meal, that's saying plenty.
