I thought everything was going great here, the wine and food were good, the live music was great, until the checks came. We were a large group, half of us left about 30 min before the other half. I was in the last half and when it was time for us to cash out we were informed that they didn't charge someone who cashed out before us for some of their wine. Then they FORCED us to pay for it. What the hell? It isn't our fault they forgot to charge someone else in our party for some of their wine! But they said they couldn't "just leave the tab open" and demanded one of us pay it. Totally rude and unprofessional. The person who left just asked for their check and paid what they were told to pay. It was the bar's mistake, not ours, we shouldn't have had to pay for it. UPDATE: After talking to my friend who the server said did not pay for all of her wine, she told us that she ordered two glasses of wine and she was charge for two glasses of wine. So 503 Uncorked actually just forced us to pay again for wine that had already been paid for. read more

503 is my favorite place to go relax and unwind and see some familiar faces after a long day. I love local wine and the food hits the spot without being fussy. During the shutdown, we enjoyed their creative takeout options, and now that they have re-opened, they have some new goodies on the menu. My favorite is the Noah pizza (hold the chicken) but I'm planning to try the new caprese salad soon! Here's the best part about their re-opening... they expanded their bar/restaurant out into the street so there is plenty of space to enjoy their hospitality safely outdoors!! They have a tent to keep it comfy in all weather and the neighboring tasting room and restaurants are doing the same, so the atmosphere in the neighborhood is like a festival. We were very disappointed in the food service. There were only three of us. Two of us received our food and waited and waited for the third. Two of us finally ate and finished our meal. I went in and told them we wanted our check and to remove the last order. Instead they brought out the order. I reminded her we just wanted to leave. We came her for the first time a few nights back. We loved the outside sitting. The atmosphere in this place was very nice. It was not a tap house but the next step up. Not sure why this place is so highly rated. Sure, they have local wines, but who doesn't around here? Cocktails are pedestrian. Ambience is also kind of unremarkable. The real problem is the food. My food came out about 15 or 20 minutes after the first plate at our table, and the place was about half full. And when it did, it wasn't anything special. Mediocre skewers and bland hummus. When I mentioned the timing to the staff, they said their oven was small. I believe them, but that doesn't make it good. They should either get a bigger oven or tell you up front, "Hey, we have a tiny oven. Some of you are going to be done eating before some of you get yours." We were a party of four, our server was the owner, Deb. She was authentic and real engaging. We had an early meal at 4:00 pm on a sunny, nice day, 9/24; most of the other patrons sat outside. We walked around the indoor space and commented on the old bank vault door, she added some history to the vault. A couple of us are wine snobs. Deb was so gracious and generous in allowing taste samples. We ordered the Mt. Scott, Mt. Jefferson and the Three Finger Jack pizzas to share. All the pizzas were brilliant with the perfect flat crust. We ordered the the Mt. Scott with the cauliflower crust. OMG, what a harmony of savory and sweet flavors with a buttery richness from the Brie cheese and a crispy crust (hard to get with a cauliflower crust). Prices were on point for the quality in the affordable range. We also share a chopped wedge salad that was fresh, colorful and neat presentation and size the was enough for 4 people with the pizzas. The wine selection is grand and supports a lot of local wineries. The beer list consisted of good microbrews with a good range of styles. The cocktails looked and tasted top shelf and picture perfect. Our server even asked if extra cherries would be enjoyed in the Old Fashion ( Yes please, and very tasty... meaning not maraschino cherries). I really like they look of this Old town Sherwood wine bar. Wine barrel tables, small bar, with an upscale vibe. They serve local wines, small plates of standard wine compatible food like olives, nuts, cheese and such. Sometimes there's a musician playing in the background, which adds to the ambiance. Nice place for a glass of vino and a bite. Since it's wine centric, it's not surprising that the clientele is primarily women. I've been a fan of 503 uncorked since its inception. For a time I was contemplating and figuring out how to open up a wine bar, Sherwood had not opened one yet! Deb the proprietor beat me to it.. and applause to her, and her work. I did like the coziness of the original spot, but I can also see why they moved to a bigger location. If I'm not correct she only carries Oregon wines. So you better like Pinot noirs and what grows best in this climate. But she carries other variatles as well as local beers.
