So my first time there, but my family loves the place and have been lots. The conveyor belt was packed with items. We had a booth next to the belt but only one side could reach to pull things off. Not a big deal to me, but worth a mention. I can't imagine going there if you're not going to sit next to the belt. The main part of my review is that my stomach cramped painfully all night after eating here, and usually I have an iron stomach. I've licked popsicles off the bare street to save them for my kids and not had issues if you know what I mean. Nothing horrific, but I can say that painful cramping for the immediate 1-12 hours after eating somewhere is a bad sign. So freshness is an issue (5:30 on Tuesday). But also the price of $2.50/plate seems kind of steep for the quality or portion that you get. I think 2/plate was a sweet spot. I'm not a cheapo, even though I'm self-aware of that last statement making me sound like one. You get three pieces of a roll on a plate, or a few grapes, or two cold dumplings, etc. For those items that aren't sashimi, the quality/portion/price/service formula doesn't work itself out for the customer. It would be very difficult to fill up on a meal of less than 5 plates (with good sushi I can eat 10 plates when I'm hungry), and when you factor in the tummy ache after it, nothing pencils out here for me. read more

This place definitely is worth a 5 star rating for reasonably priced conveyor sushi. Everything was fresh, and the employees are on it about removing plates that have gone around the belt a few times. Unlike other conveyor sushi places everything that should be hot is hot! Super friendly staff that are ready to help or make you something. Great for a light meal, and even better for ADHD eaters like myself that are bored with eating a whole roll. WARING!!!! If you are planning on turning off a date or spending all evening with stomach cramps and spewing all night this is the place for you. The food sits out on a belt that rotates and isn't kept cool, leaving the food to get warm, dry and full of harmful bacteria. When I asked how long chicken had been on the belt the guy was unsure and said about two hours. The albacore they brought me was dried up and rubbery. Our entire table was horrified. We quickly stopped eating and took a quick exit out. Only one of us is sick and one with a sour stomach. For your health, please do not eat here. This place is cute. It reminds me of Sushi Land in Portland. A cheap, shitty sushi place that satisfies my random sushi cravings. It's great! The salmon is good and tastes fresh enough, there's a good variety of choices and I'm pretty content with everything on the belt. I like going here because they'll give you a good portion of tuna poke and/or salmon poke for 2$. I'm down for that, it's cheap, taste fine, and I'm happy. This is the best sushi place in Eugene for the price! This place has the best prices and even though it is greatly centered at the college students it is absolutely amazing. I love the Vegas roll and the Oregon roll. The chefs will make you whatever you want and are very friendly! I have never had a bad experience here in my 5+ times coming here! Not a fan of giving two star reviews.. But sushi 541 was terrible. The old adage "you get what you pay for" definitely applies here. The slices of fish were super thin, and the seared tuna.. tasted.. Old. Yikes. I never want to equate old and raw fish together, ever. Needless to say my friends and I were left disappointed. Looking for a decently-priced Sushi bar? 541-Sushi is a solid choice. The atmosphere is relaxing and great for conversation with your party and the waitresses are very attentive! The conveyor belt system is nice and the staff are quick to get you anything you order on the menus that doesn't happen to be on the rotation at a given time. BARF. Literally vomitous. I ate at this new discount sushi place on last Friday evening and have been miserable with food poisoning ever since. I went in this evening, still ailing, and asked the management if I could simply have my money back and was very rudely refused on the basis of it being unprovable, even when I showed my receipt and reminded him that I felt fine until just after finishing my meal. I was also told, incorrectly, that I "must be new to fish." I like to think that good service involves trusting a customer, and not intimating bluntly that I would (waste my time trying to) scam a restaurant for $16. As for the food itself, the fish portions were predictably small for the price, were of discernibly low quality, and were presented rather unaesthetically (even the specialty rolls). You could tell easily that the miso soup was prepared from powder stock and not made in-house. I have tried my best with this review to remain impartial, and probably have not fully succeeded - I'm human. Please spare yourself the bad deal and potential gastrointestinal agony, and go somewhere better - like I should have. read more

The trick with this place is timing. If it's busy, your experience will be a lot better than if it's not. Obviously the more people there are the faster the belt is emptied and the fresher the food is. Don't go here when it's quiet and expect everything on the belt to be fresh. Personally I'd avoid this place if it's empty. Also, you can order things off their menu, and most of those things are still 2 bucks. So if you're looking for freshness they'll make it right in front of your face for the same price as the not so fresh things on the conveyor. As far as quality goes, you get what you pay for. This is not some 5 star sushi place. It's better than the pre-made garbage they have in grocery stores and I wouldn't pay more per plate than 2 bucks. If you want a burger you'll go get fast food, if you want cheap sushi, you'll probably end up here. Don't expect this place to offer you sushi miracles for 2 bucks. read more

Food was really good, I cant say it was the best sushi I have had but it was very tasty and inexpensive. Its the perfect place for the family and a night out on the town. I have no clue what P.J. the previous poster is saying, I spoke with the chef and watched him make the rolls right in front of me with FRESH fish none was frozen or prepackaged. No sushi bot used and all condiments where there, so no clue to what that was about. I would have to say this, the place is busy so be prepared to wait or go on a down time, like not during dinner hours... Overall, not so impressed. This is strictly a conveyor sushi place. Fish/shellfish are purchased pre-portioned and frozen. Sushi rice is formed with a sushi-bot. It was a bit hard and tasted too sweet, perhaps not enough rice vinegar was used. No wasabi in any of the sushi, although it's available on the counter (reconstituted from powder). No tuna was available when I went there on a Saturday evening. They do most of their business in rolls using surimi (crab-flavored fish cake), negi-toro (minced tuna mixed with fat), and farmed salmon. We sat at the counter. The white fluorescent lighting there was unattractive. The salmon-egg sushi plate is $4.00 rather than the '$2.00 for all plates' advertised in the window. Considering the quality of sushi served, $2.00 per plate is hardly a deal. Expect 8-10 plates per person. The staff were pleasant, and the service was fine. The space used to hold a local restaurant legacy, so the location has a lot to live up to. The conveyer belt and $2 price tag/plate (excluding udon and salmon roe) ensure you get full fast. Wait staff are available to refill drinks and take orders for specific sushi if it isn't coming around. Requests came out quick. The sushi quality and portion size (usually 2 pieces) isn't exemplary, but definitely still a deal for the couple bucks a serving. Sushi belt places are there to give you cheap food, and plenty of it, without pretense or high expectations. They are the Japanese equivalent of the buffet table. I'm not much for buffets, mostly because the food is usually not very good. This place has attracted lots of attention since it opened earlier this year because of its across the board $2 plates, making it easy to figure out your bill and eat just as much or as little as you want. All of the drawbacks of the conveyor belt are here too, sorry to say. DLW and I are big fans of Japanese food in general, and we finally made it here for Friday dinner. The place was mostly full at 7 pm, and all of the bar seats were taken, so we took a table. The waitress said we could order from the menu or pull dishes off the belt at our convenience. We opted to position ourselves at a corner, out of other people's way, and inspect the belt fare. It was pretty much what we expected: rolls, nigiri, tempura, and a few dessert items. We took a selection of items back to the table and noshed them with a little sake. My advice: stick with the sushi, avoid fried items. We were disappointed with the gyoza fried tempura style, and the pork cutlet, both obviously past their prime. Squid nigiri was also a letdown, because I love squid, and this one was flavorless. Surf clam was better, and everything we had with salmon was pretty good - roll, nigiri and poke. Rice was a weak link, as it usually is at places like this. It lost its integrity in the sushi, and turned hard when spread on a plate under the tonkatsu. If you really want sushi at lunch and don't have a lot of time, maybe this makes sense. As a dinner option, I just don't see it. read more

Sushi 541 gets the name of "You get what you pay for", and to some extent, it is what you pay for. If you are from Portland, this place will remind you of Sushi Land (not the sushi island that just opened up here as well) When your stomach is hungry and a heavy meal is not on your mind, this place is a good spot to hop in and quickly fill your stomach. Realistically, this place is a 3.5 in terms of a non-contextual review. Their fish seems decent enough, their rolls could be a bit better, some of them are not rolled tightly or a bit off. Their belt has a variety that seems to serve the average sushi eater, California rolls and something fried. I do wish that they placed a bit more variety on the belt, waited to see what was popular, and refrained from having too many items rotating for extended periods of time. But their staff is helpful and nice, they come by to do everything that a front of staff should be doing, their sushi "chefs" are nice and approachable and will be happy to make you anything you want that isn't currently rotating on the menu. I do wish they had a better bar, well, A BAR. They do lack this, and being in downtown this almost seems like a must for a place like this. But this technically isn't the nature of the establishment, so it is excusable. Their $2 sushi plates could be a permanent thing, maybe turn into a happy hour thing, but it most likely will go away soon. The real question is, what will their pricing structure be like? Will they still be aiming for this market segment? Will their food still be the same? But truth be told, I'll make more visits here as it is simple, easy, and good. read more

My husband and I go here all the time and I really do love their salmon nigiri and my husband enjoys everything he gets too. I had to write a two star review for my visit tonight because I ordered miso soup and the waitress accidentally spilled the whole scalding hot bowl of soup all over me and my husband...I know it was an accident but as it soaked through my clothes it really burned. I was embarrassed, as I'm sure the whole restaurant of people were looking at us. She did bring over a towel for me to use and apologized and we moved seats. I even felt the need to go to the bathroom to check for burns (luckily I'm fine). We continued to eat what we ordered as I sat there with miso soaked clothes. When we checked out the guy who rang us up gave us about a $10 discount for the soup incident. Just a little annoyed that we weren't more taken care of tonight. So I guess this review makes up for it. We will eat here again, I'll just be cautious of the miso soup as it comes to the table. read more

Bad service can ruin a first impression, mopped floors before closing time can feel unwelcome, cold tempura is not good, and fish that doesn't look fresh or at the right temperature, unappetizing and unsafe. Sloppy plates was also another aspect i didn't like..
