Hard meh. The menu seems extensive until you realize how much gluten, 'krab' and sugary sauces are used to overcompensate for a lack of diverse choices. Got the yokozuna 33 piece sashimi combo and it was completely underwhelming. It sounds like you'll get an array of fish... Four kinds. Sloppy cuts. On the biggest bed of shredded radish I've ever seen used as a garnish. Lucky me I love garnish I guess. The mango roll would have been tasty if the mango wasn't wholly unripe. The burdock roll was tasty but both weren't rolled tight and fell apart loosely. The service was fine but really only fished to see if we were ordering more and otherwise lacked attention. The worst sushi I have had in Eugene for the price. The nigiri maguro tuna was dry and like leather. It fell off the rice and I could not even cut it in half it was so stiff. Maguro is my standard for testing and this one failed. The house salad was also not worth the price. read more

Slow service, maybe because I was alone. When I got the food, no one wanted to come back. Tonkatsu is a favorite but theirs was awful. No actually Tonkatsu sauce. They used a lot of Donburi sauce and French Sweet Honey Mustard. When I complained, they replaced it with another pork cutlet ( prepared nicely) smothered in Sweet Donburi sauce. Oh My gosh! Talk about a hidden gem! This place is perfect! It was recommended to me by some friends who used to live in Eugene for 10+ years and they would go here regularly, and I'm glad I heard about this place. It just hit the spot, it was exactly what we were looking for food wise, and the selection was perfect. We came in for dinner around 6:30pm on a Thursday night. We sat at the bar and enjoyed some small talk with the chef. Ordered 6 pc chefs choice Nigiri, California roll, Tokyo Roll, Calamari appetizer and a chefs choice specialty roll. All of the above were the best I've had within 300 miles of here. i am a Sushi Seoul ride or die but this place definitely exceeded my expectations. service was a little slow but also good so it balanced, i guess. we also got the tofu appetizer and added spice and it was sooooo good. gyoza/potstickers were better than other places around. bathroom also has a bidet lol +1 for hygiene. read more

I'll start off with how awesome our food was. We got a dragon ball, the mio sashimi platter, and a matchu pichu roll. Fish tasted fresh and was presented very nicely. However service was honestly kind of mediocre. We were seated, given waters and waited for about 30-40 minutes to get our order in. Food came out a while after and we were not visited again, we planned on getting more food but our check was dropped off quickly after we finished what we had, so we just ended up paying and leaving. Weve never been before so maybe they were having an off night, but we probably wouldn't choose to dine in again, would absolutely get take out. read more

Had sushi delivery from here - solid tasty rolls at a typical price for sushi. The delivery did not come with chopsticks or soy sauce but we had our own. I would order from here again Update- have ordered multiple more times. Consistently solid. All other deliveries have had both soy sauce and chopsticks. read more

Bad- why is broccoli not served in veggie tempura that costs $10.50? A slice of carrot and sweet potato hardly cost anything. I ordered another nigiri and the sushi chef literally let it sit on the side for 5-7 min waiting for someone else to serve it to me. Was excited to try the sushi but couldn't even stomach eating what I ordered because I couldn't trust that the location knows how to wash dishes or utensils. The plate we got our sushi served on was encrusted with grease and oil with little bits of hairs sticking to it. After we were about to leave I was able to scrape the gunk leftover on the "clean" portion of the plate with the chopsticks we were given. The small portion plates and the sauce plates were also oily and dirty. I pointed it out to the waitress who just said the dishes were old. These were filthy. I should have just left but decided to stay after they offered a discount. I don't trust they care about food safety standards if they can't hire competent dishwashers or managers who care about their wares or dishwasher operation. read more

I've been here before and thought it was good enough to come back. Not so sure if they were having a bad day or this is the new norm. Ordered a Philly roll and a unagi roll. The salmon was chewy and the eel was slimy. Couldn't eat half of it. At nearly $10 a roll, I expected more. The citrus ginger tea was great though! The service was excellent. I only ever eat vegetarian sushi, so can't comment on the fish, which is the main attraction for most people. This restaurant is cute and seems popular and lively; I'd like to try eating in person here someday (agedashi tofu!). Sushi Ya runs take-out coupons in the paper so often that I decided to give it a try. Food was ready fast. It was quite tasty and with the coupon, the price can't be beat. I'm not sure I'll come often for an environmental reason: they pack everything in giant, heavy, single-use plastic containers that break apart when you try to reuse them. I recognize that the restaurant business is cutthroat and they need to cut costs, and they probably find it annoying when customers complain about things like plastic or styrofoam. That said, I'm informing environmentally conscious customers so they won't be surprised. (The same goes for restaurants that use paper boxes--Yelpers should comment on those too and shower them with stars.) The solution is simple: eat here in person instead of to go :) read more

A bit disappointed with this order. Usually they honor special requests. And not even a 'special' request simply stating a food allergy and they left the ingredient in order therefore making it unsafe to eat. They usually are very accommodating and understanding, but I guess they didn't read the note this time. Unfortunate. They also didn't include chopsticks, silverware, napkins, or soy sauce for a Togo order. My miso soup for $3 was less than half full (and I've ordered before and gotten the full portioned amount.) I have always enjoyed coming to Sushi Ya. They are consistently good and fair priced. Started out with a Alaska roll and then had the Chicken Tempura bento box. Sushi is made fresh as you order right there, and it never disappoints in flavor or freshness. The bento boxes have so much food. It came with chicken teriyaki, sushi, salad (with an amazing dressing I might add), rice and tempura shrimp. The atmosphere is casual and relaxing, great friendly service and delicious food that makes you want to come back. read more

The weekend we went to Eugene it was cold and raining. I for some reason was craving Ramen. It didn't take much to talk our friends into Sushi at all. Thankfully we were with a local who new this great spot. The Ramen of choice for me was the Chashu Ramen. Fully cooked pork belly, bean sprouts. mixed veggies, onions, green onion. You know just as much as I do that its all about the broth. I have zero complaints about the broth or the Ramen or the pork belly. In my opinion you cannot go wrong with ordering pork belly. This Ramen was excellent. On the side I ordered the Sashimi combo and the Seaweed Salad. The sashimi was just ok. A little too fishy for my liking. Seaweed Salad was very nice to. My man got some kind of spicy crunch roll thing that was very good. I just don't do spice that much so I don't usually go for those rolls. One of the best parts of coming to dine here is that it was right as mask mandates were lifting in Oregon and they hadn't quite yet in California and my excitement of going out to eat and not wearing a mask cannot be beat. The photo is simply crap. Deep-fried yellowtail collar with bread crumbs. WTF??? We asked for traditional yellowtail collar AKA Hamachi Kama and we got this American california-style crap that is deep fried. We asked to have it exchanged for traditional and the waitress was afraid to approach the chef because he is apparently a self-absorbed snob. I would almost guarantee you that this short order cook is not Japanese and certainly not trained in traditional style of Itamae  cooking or sushi preparation. Look it up chef. This place was amazing! First off, the interior design aligned with the japanese style very well. The bamboo/wooden booths were what caught my eyes when I was walking past. I think by far this is the first time I've seen so many sushi roll options on the menu, which is amazing! I ordered the B52 roll and a beef bento, and they both came out pretty fast! I want to start by saying that I am sure that their sushi is great. When you come here, order the sushi. I would suggest avoiding ordering the ramen like I did. It was just very disappointing. It looked and tasted identical to the ramen I made at home just a few days prior using Instant Ramen noodles. And at a $13 price point, I expected it to be really tasty. It was just...fine. I would love to come back and splurge on their sushi though. Their specialty rolls sounded delicious. And I make terrible sushi at home so there won't be any comparison. read more

NOTE: I am basing my rating SOLELY on the FOOD itself, as I ordered through GrubHub and don't have an opinion as far as the customer service. I ordered a ramen soup with the pork option, a yakisoba noodle dish with the chicken option, and a stuffed jalapeño appetizer. I've ordered each of these dishes many times in the past from other restaurants, and have never had any complaints (in fact, normally love each one). This time, however, the food was just OFF. For starters, the chicken was bland and chewy, and the ramen was just soft noodles and cabbage while the pork was barely noticeable. But the biggest issue was the SMELL. Despite my dishes being meat based, they ALL overpoweringly smelled like RAW FISH (think: when you go to the seafood section of the supermarket). I spent almost $50, and tried to eat as much as I could tolerate of each dish, but basically had to breathe through my mouth as I took each bite. Again, I understand it is a Japanese restaurant, therefore raw fish scent may be in the air within the building....but never have I ever had an experience of ordering a non-fish dish that smelled like raw fish. In short, it was a major disappointment for what I was looking forward to. read more
