We just moved this week July 15 2020 to new 3 bedroom apartment. To our surprise the process was much easier and simpler than we expected. Started with Andrea Lopez the Leasing Agent who was very patient with me and my wife. Showed us few appointment and was available at anytime and any questions we had, even few days after. When we finally decided to sign the leas, also all the process was online and easy. ( she was prepared perfectly to protect us from the Covid 19 and especially since my wife is in advanced pregnancy) Than when we finally sign the lease the "madness"started the building management, and especially the manger John was so kind, got us the apartment ready in less than a week. We didn't asked but they change our flooring, painted the all apartment and much more. The even was welling to re-do and paint the kitchen cabinet. We literally moved to a new apartment. Needless to say that we love our new home, the pool and the gym , great neighbors and great area. I never do this but 555 is an exception.... I lived at 555 for 3 years and was a model tenant. I never asked for any improvements for my apartment that had not been updated/improved since the 80's or complained about the poor upkeep of the common areas. However, if I was one day late on paying my bill they had no problem slapping me with at $50 late fee..... fine..... The straw the broke the camels back was when I moved out of my apparent. These guys through so many "fee's" and "fines" at me that it made my head spin. This building is run by total crooks! Stay away!!!! read more

Hello everyone, I have been a resident at this property for several years. After I moved in, I was exposed to rats living in my unit for over two weeks before the management did anything. Such a horrific experience. A few months ago, I started to develop symptoms related to exposure to mold and had to hire a private company to test the level of moisture in my apartment. The management of the building did not reimburse me for the cost of the inspection and I had to be relocated for weeks during the pandemic until the management assured me that it was safe for me to move back. I am still not feeling well and decided to pay again for an inspection that just revealed additional moisture in my bedroom and living room. And this time, the management is refusing to relocate me or even waive my rent until the walls are renovated. This has been an ongoing nightmare along with the fire alarm that is constantly going off, bugs in the bathroom. If anyone has recommendations on how to resolve these issues, please message me as I can no longer live in these unsanitary conditions. read more

I accepted a temporary work assignment that relocated me from Dallas, TX to Santa Monica. Unfortunately, local ordinances in Santa Monica precluded me from legally living there for a temporary period. So, a friend connected me with a realtor who recommended this place. The location was ideal because it's a short hop to Sant Monica. The apartment had been newly renovated top to bottom. The apartment was just what I needed for six to nine month stay in California: a nice sized, contemporarily renovated, 1/1 with a full sized washer/dryer combo in a quiet, reasonably secure building with covered parking that was marketed at a rate that is competitive for what you get. The on site rental manager, Andrea Lopez was great. She followed through and ensured everything was handled promptly. She even suggested a couple of furniture rental companies and rental insurances; I used one of each. So, all in all, a win. read more

This building is a facad! It's old, Management is consistently changing and there is no stability, they hold off on fixing any issues because the less they spend on the units equates to bigger bonuses. The maintanenece crew lies in order to save face for the manager. Theres mold and odd odors. The elevators and building in general smells like wet dog. They over promise and under deliver. The city has been called several times and the building has several, I mean several defaults and code violations. The only thing they have going for them is location. I loved wasting 3 hours of my day on a Friday afternoon going to visit this property. First, when I arrived there was no guest parking available because they only have 6 spots so getting parked was a hassle and there was no button to press and the office would ring you in until after you have managed to park. Secondly, while waiting for the sales person to come show me a unit, even though I had an appointment, she was no where to be found until 20 minutes later, Bernard, in the office asked if I would like to go over numbers? I replied that my assistant had already sent me the numbers. She had spoken to him directly. He asked what numbers I had. I read them off my texted notes. He informed they were incorrect. He said the actual numbers for a 2 bedroom start at over $4,300.00/mo. I called my assistant on speaker phone right there and then. She defended the information that she had gotten from Bernard earlier. She then pulled up the information on the website and said I'm looking at numbers that are even lower than what he told me right now on their own website. I asked Bernard about this and he said the only prices that they advertise from their office are done on craigslist. He said all other pricing comes directly from the corporate office and they have no control over what the corporate office list in their ad. I asked him if he had seen any two bedroom apartments actually lease for the $3800 he had quoted in the last six months and he said no he had not. He said the least expensive he had seen was actually $4200. I asked him if he did not consider that false advertising? That is when he went on to explain to me about how they don't actually advertise the prices there, that is done at the corporate office. That did not account for him having given my assistant a blatantly lower number than what they are actually offering. Being curious I looked it up this morning less than 24 hours later on their website to see what did it say? I am adding the picture from their website which shows that they are in fact advertising their unit B for $600.00/month less than they are actually leasing them for. I believe the unethical advertising practice is called "lost leader advertising." Bernard looked incredibly sheepish and guilty and embarrassed when I pointed this discrepancy out to him although he had seemed incredibly comfortable initially trying to bump up the rate as if that was just an OK thing to do. Furthermore, I did go ahead and go to see the unit because after all I was a long ways away from my home in Friday afternoon rush hour traffic. On the way there I noticed initially that the wallpaper in the elevator was in disarray and the metal parts were often dented and scraped. Walking down the hall, which was a very long haul, to get to the unit I noticed lots of packages sitting outside of people's doors which I wasn't really comfortable with from a security standpoint. I also noticed that the wallpaper, in the hallways, was peeling away from the walls in many places and this is not something I would expect from a supposedly high-quality apartment complex. I also felt really awkward and ill prepared when we did finally reach the unit to find that the current residents were actually there and still living there and it was being shown. The unit wasn't in the best condition and the lady we waited on forever said it would all be made ready, which was odd because we had been told before I drove all the way out there for a 4 PM Friday afternoon meeting that the unit was available immediately. Anyway, long story short and I realize it's a little late for that, the whole thing really seemed like much ado about nothing because although the pool area is gorgeous, the living spaces themselves are nothing more than you'll find anywhere else. When we left the unit I told Bernard that I had looked at very comparable apartments in the direct vicinity that were priced $1500 less/mo. with all of the same amenities and In equal quality of condition. He was very gentlemanly throughout the time we spent together and I appreciated that although the unethical mess of the pricing and barging in on people who are still living at their apartment and the condition of the place itself really took away from my experience, obviously. read more

The apartment is spacious and the grounds, especially the pool, make it standout among LA apartment buildings. Very well maintained and respectful neighbors (for the most part). My first review in 2016 was effusive in its praise of management and service. My second review reflected concerns I had about continuing changes in management. If one reads the reviews over the past few years, you will hear praise for Patrick, Ian, Francisco, Bernard, Kimye, etc. None of those individuaLs are working at 555 Barrington. They were all very professional. The current Manager, Ingrid, seems more interested in pleasing her corporate bosses than providing good service to the tenants. Case in point: She unilaterally decided to lock the bathrooms on the lobby level. This resulted in tenants having to go to the office and request a key. This is inconvenient for tenants, young and old who experience a sense of urgency to use the toilet, whether coming out of the pool or coming in from a walk with their dog. Does anyone seriously think that children are going to get out of the pool, get in to the elevator, go to their apartment and return to the pool? Of course they won't! The pool will be their toilet. Another poor decision was to disallow Security personnel to have access to the resident's keys when the office staff has gone for the day. This results in residents, who forget their keys, having to call in a locksmith at considerable personal expense. During the fifteen years I lived at 555 Barrington (having only just moved out a month ago), I have seen a steady decline in upkeep and service. Appliances are old and rarely replaced. Recently, 2 maintenance men worked for several hours repairing an old clothes dryer. My understanding is that the Company will do anything to avoid another Capital expense. Elevators are frequently out of order, pool furniture is old and dingy, having only been replaced once in 15 years. The building is looking tired. Carpets in the hallways have also not been replaced in many years. Exterior windows are never washed. Earlier this year I had an infestation of mice. Seeing mouse droppings all around my apartment was extremely upsetting. Knowing my home had mousetraps everywhere made me uncomfortable. Ultimately, a litter of 7 newborn mice showed up in a dresser drawer ruining nearly every garment with their excrement and teeth. Ingrid, the Manager, was indifferent to my angst, responding "Oh, I come from New York and there are rodents everywhere." 555 Barrington is now a 30 year old building and is definitely showing its age. For years it was known as the ONLY luxury rental building in Brentwood. That is no longer the case. It is not a luxury building. It is an old building with poor management and vermin. read more

The 555 is a gorgeous apartment complex. I have never actually lived here, but have friends who did about 5 years ago, and recently moved back in while looking for a new house to buy. The building is a pretty Spanish/Mediterranean complex, with lots of landscaping and a beautiful entry/lobby (with coffee and beverages out daily). There is a nice, fairly large-sized gym for an apartment complex with good equipment. The apartments themselves are nice, maybe not as nice as I would expect from the outside, but still very clean, modern and well-kept. My friends live in the penthouse and you need a key to get to that floor, so it feels very safe and secure. Good natural light in the building and a nice pool area. I'm sure rent is insanely expensive but if it's in your budget I would definitely suggest the 555. You also can't beat the location - a 10 minute walk to San Vicente (Whole Foods, Peets, Pink Berry and all the other shops and restaurants) as well as the Sunset dog park. read more

Until very recently, I would have given this building 5 stars. I still love my apartment, but Patrick, the superstar manager praised in many earlier reviews, is now gone. There has been a revolving door of almost all other personnel. Bits of trash aren't picked up as quickly-- the morning coffee machine had no cups for a week ( Ralph's and Staples don't sell coffee cups?!), things like that. Premium rents here. Do not move into this building. The infrastructure is falling apart and the security is ineffective; we've had break in's and car jackings. The acoustics in the courtyard are horrendous and the management refuses to do anything about screaming children from noon-sunset almost everyday. If you're comfortable taking zoom calls in the bathroom in order to get away from the noise then by all means, this place might be perfect. The worst experience I have ever had leasing a property. The property manager was rude and never took my calls and my apartment was spotless when I moved out and I did a walk through with one of the leasing agents and asked her if they were going to charge me for anything and she said it was perfect. and then they charged me over $300 to paint my apartment and $60 to shampoo the carpet when it was perfect. Been living here for over 2 years now. Beautiful courtyard and spacious well appointed units. The walls are a bit thin and you will hear your neighbors but most are considerate. Everyone has a dog and many have kids. It does get loud by the pool especially in the summer. A few parents could spend a little more time with their kids helping them to understand that there are other people around to consider. Patrick is the current manager and he and his team in the office are wonderful. Security, led by Kevin, is top notch. Daily delivery of packages right inside our apartment, what a convenience. Kevin is always helpful in holding our mail when we go on vacation and closely checking who comes in and out of our building. We feel very safe with him in the lobby. Truly, the only tough part about living on Barrington is that the traffic is heavy. Other than that, the place is 5 stars***** read more

Ok, the building is very nice, the units are very nice and the amenities are very nice - HOWEVER my experience with the leasing staff sucked. I came in to get a place, they said they would likely have one for the next month. They didn't call, didn't return calls and then they finally said "oh yeah it isn't available afterall" - 1 week before I was supposed to move. It all worked out because I found a place almost across the street - twice the size and less money. I hear it is great from some folks and terrible from others. I've lived here for several years now and have been exceedingly impressed with not only the building itself, but also with the staff. The leasing office and maintenance staff are lovely and always helpful; if anything is broken or I need assistance with something -- whether letting in the cable guy while I'm at work or advising me when an important package is delivered -- they're eager (and quick!) to help out. I love having a security guard in the entryway 24/7...I also have a big dog, and 555 is one of the few nice buildings that allows her! Our new Home at a Apartment Complex in Brentwood, Ca. and named "555 Barrington", has become our delightful, happy new home. The physical layout of the complex in quite unique, a Five story Bldg, two elevators, one on each side of the Basement Parking Garages, that services all floors. Full time staff on site to take care of all issues pertaining to your Apartment, or help regarding anything you may need. The Apartments are spacious, all with washer dryers and terrific closet space. There is a large heated pool and Jacuzzi, and a indoor gym. The Location is midway way between Wilshire Blvd and Sunset Blvd, Two miles from Westwood, and about Four miles to Santa Monica Beach. Shopping, Markets, and a Specialty Stores. If you need medical help, UCLA and the VA are close by. The staff headed by Manager Patrick, and Ian are superb. A+++ read more

This building is supposedly the best luxury rental apartment complex in Brentwood, CA. Don't be fooled like we were. We pay upwards of $4,000 a month for a building that has parents who treat the common pool area as a personal day camp for their children. Kids screaming at the top of their lungs for hours on end and using their personal patios as play pens. If you don't have children (or at least ones that are well behaved) then I would stay far away from this rental property. read more

I have lived here a short time, you take the good with the bad. Here are some insights in no particular order: The nieghborhood is safe, pretty, relatively quiet, and conducive to walking and biking. There is coffee and newspapers in the pretty lobby in the mornings. I like the music they play in there too, ecclectic and inoffensive. They allow pets, yet I rarely hear any barking. The grounds are beautiful, the pool and spa are well heated and cared for, and seem to use a salt system. There is nice patio furniture as well. The landscaping is beautiful (lots of bamboo and palms) and I believe every unit has at least one patio. There is a nice 24 hour gym and 24 hour security. There is a secure garage and you need a key card to get into the garage and the elevators. I have not seen or experienced any crime since I've been here. Packages get delivered to your door nightly. They will even put them inside your unit if you let them. Work orders are fulfilled promptly and the maintenance staff is fast and thorough. The units are large and comfortable, but a bit dated - think 1989 mid-range hotel. The appliances (stove,microwave,DW,WD,HVAC) are electric, white, newer and work very well. (Refrigerators not included) There are real fireplaces in the units!!! This makes the building smell wonderful. The units have carpet in the bedrooms and living/dining rooms, peel and stick vinyl tiles (yikes!) in the bathrooms and real tile in the kitchen and entryway. There are few ceiling lights, so you will need lamps, and the kitchen ceilings are dropped with 80's style flat fluorescent lighting. The bathrooms have exhaust fans but no windows. The people that live and work here are pleasant and friendly, for the most part, but they complain a lot because: 1) Building-wide, extremely loud fire alarms go off at all hours for no reason, (maybe someone's a-hole kid?) the interior fire doors automatically close, stay closed long after the alarms have stopped, and are very heavy and hard to open, especially for elderly residents. 2) The employee turnover is high, and people get fired for no reason. If there is someone in the front office you like and find helpful, don't expect he or she to be around for long. 3) The lights in the pool area go out on a bi-weekly basis. 4) There are many children living in the building, but if your unit faces away from the courtyard, you don't hear them much. 5) There is a palpable feeling of "us against them" between the people that live and work in the building, and the corporate owners. This building is very expensive to live in (~$3-7k/month) and the move-in costs are very high for the area, (~$9-20k) so there are some things you just wouldn't expect at that price, such as: a) Tandem parking. b) Renters insurance required and no utilities included. Also, you have to pay for the same utilities twice, to different companies. In addition to paying DWP (water, power and trash) for your unit, you also have to pay those same utilities again for the common areas (not kidding!), to some sketchy company in Illinois, every month. The do not take payments over the phone, charge a $7.50 "convenience fee" to pay on line, and if you want to make automatic payments to them through your bank, you have to enroll via snail mail in a process that takes 1-2 months. Think about this for a second... the building owners do not even pay for their own utilities, they divide the cost among the residents, even though they are already paying top dollar for rent. This is an embarrassing level of stinginess. Will they start billing us for the coffee and newspapers next? c) Time Warner is the only option for cable and internet. This is, by far, the worst cable company in CA. Your internet will inexplicable go out several times each day. There is no DVR for the cable, you can't pause live TV, the cost is over $100 per month and the channel line-up isn't very good. Also, if you bundle your home phone with Time Warner, you will get an area code that is not compatible with the front and side door buzzer system. d) The building was built after 1978 so is not under rent control. This means there is no limit to the amount the property company can decide to raise your rent after your lease expires. I've heard that 6 month leases were recently raised by 8%, but I haven't been here long enough to experience this - will keep you updated. The rents are well above market cost for the area, (like I said, the place is beautiful) so I can't imagine that many new residents would agree to stay if their rents are increased. e) The management does not want you to keep bicycles or small carts (to carry groceries) in the garage behind your car, even though there is plenty of room and places to lock them. They want you to pay extra for storage instead. Overall, I am happy living here, but we'll see what happens over the next year, and especially at lease renewal time! read more

I've lived in this building for just over a year now and absolutely love it! The location is amazing - central to Santa Monica, Malibu, and extremely accessible to the east side and the valley as it's just off the 405. I've recently moved from New York City and have found this building to be extremely accommodating to everything I need. Not to mention the staff is wonderful and so helpful. I email the new manager, Francisco, who is such a delight all the time and he answers within minutes - typically with a quick solution to the problem. Maintenance fixes are done in less than 24-48 hours (depending on the problem) and Francisco always ensures it's done to completion. Safe to say I renewed my lease with no haste! And much of that is due to the new management. read more

Can't say enough about this place and folks who work there. I had an elderly relative live at 555 for a year. Because he was elderly, he was hard of hearing and had bad vision. The management went above and beyond the call of duty to help him whenever they could, from getting him a cab to fighting with the cable company who accidentally cut his cable. The place was always spotless and the staff was always there to help...always. It's a beautiful building with a terrific staff. I'd recommend the building to anyone.
