Tonight was our first time trying 56 Kitchen. We ordered a couple salads for take out..I know boring, but my husband and I were both excited for the pretzel bagels the salads came with! I ordered the SOM salad and added grilled chicken and my husband ordered a wedge. He assume for $10 it would be a pretty hearty salad and opTed out of adding a protein. Well, his salad was pretty sad looking for $10. My salad was $14.50 since I added grilled chicken and also think that was overpriced for what I actually received. The piece of chicken was small and precooked/cold. I thought I'd be getting a fresh, hot piece of grilled chicken, but that was not the casee. Overall, my salad was good, but nothing special. The homemade ranch was really good, but pretzel bagels that we were so excited for were nothing to write home about either. Not sure we will try it again based on price vs. quality. Next time we will stick with winking lizard or mulligans for takeout salads much better bang for your buck (both quality and quantity)! read more

Overall, I have had great experiences here. The salads and sandwiches are tasty, and they often have some great specials. The decor is so cute inside you forget you are in a restaurant in a strip mall in mayfield heights. We have gone back several times! The only item I did not like here was the peach marscapone dip. It's been three years since I've visited Cafe 56, but an evening class I'm taking required that I stop for dinner near my work. On this occasion, I let a co-worker select 'what's for dinner'. She chose salad from Cafe 56. So I called ahead off I went. The salads were ready when I arrived. I ordered the asian dinner salad, which was $8.96. The salad had a fresh grilled chicken breast in it! Yum! So, I went back today to cash in on my replacement salad. I purposely ordered a different salad for a different experience. Lettuce was supposed to be mixed greens... it was romaine, which is better than the crappy iceberg last time. HOWEVER... the dressing was once again, not the one the menu said it would be. Last time, it was supposed to be green goddess, and who knows what it was, it only resembled green goddess in some ways. Today's was actually worse: it was supposed to be their stone ground mustard dressing, and I honestly have NO idea what it was. It SEEMED like it might have been a creamy Italian with chunks of bleu cheese. Which, wasn't terrible, but for God's sake folks... if you go through the trouble to list specific dressings with specific salads... put it in there! Otherwise, just give me a list to select from, and don't whet my appetite for something I am never apparently going to get. Ugh. I did however get my pretzel bagel today. Yay! So, while the ingredients are fresh looking and tasting, it would be nice to get the ones I order. Staff continues to be friendly, but I really need my orders to be consistently correct. My parents suggested we go there for my brother's birthday. There were 8 of us so we got to try everything. 95% of what we tried was very good, 5% not at all. Everything there is made from scratch, you can see the kitchen out in the open and you can taste that in the quality of the food. Crispy Brussels Sprouts - good, Heirloom Tomato and Burrata Carpaccio - excellent, Grilled Peach and Mascarpone Dip - the only hiccup of the night, not good at all, Sweet Corn and White Bean Chowder Soup - good. For main courses: 4 cheese bianco - I am not a good judge of pizza as I don't eat it but my niece said it was good, my son had a burger - he said it was excellent, very big portion, fried chicken - this portion is absolutely huge and my brother devoured it, he said it was excellent (I didn't try it personally), barramundi (from their specials menu) - very good, walleye - excellent, grilled prime sirloin - excellent, definitely a great value at $23. For dessert - their house made donuts holes and flourless chocolate torte - both excellent. At the end of the night, the owner (Israel) stopped by our table, asked us for the feedback, when we mentioned our experience with the dip (see above), they promptly removed it from the bill. Our server (and I apologize I don't remember the name) - was excellent, very friendly and attentive. So why 4 stars and not 5? The noise level was very loud (we came on Friday night), at some points we didn't hear each other and since restaurant was very busy our server was trying to be in too many places at the same time. But, great experience overall, great value for the money and my daughter even mentioned that she will consider this restaurant for her birthday with her friends (they have semi-private room in the back that wouldn't be as loud so could work out perfectly) read more

I ordered their grilled chicken sandwich (The Love Bird)and it came so soggy. I told the waitress it was too soggy to eat it. I couldn't even pick it up. I asked her for another bun. She went and got me another bun and I had to remake my own sandwich with the fresh bun. She never offered to make me another one and we had already waited a long time for our meal so I was just happy to be eating. We've been to this restaurant 5-6 times in the past year and we've never failed to have an outstanding meal! We've ordered the Pick It Dinner where you pick your protein, sauces and sides and ALL of them are excellent (we had a bigger group). We've also tried the sandwiches, salads and pizzas. No lie, it is all good. In addition, the barman (Creighton) is a master mixologist with amazing concoctions. He is also very friendly and gave us recommendations for drinks and dinner. We went here on a Sunday evening and Mother's Day. They seemed surprised we didn't have a reservation but seated us quickly. The waitress was really nice and attentive. I got a veggie burger, both of kids got burgers and my hubby got the chicken with mushrooms. My veggie burger was good but hard to eat because it was on focaccia bread. The kids liked their burgers. My husband's chicken was dry. We did get the white pizza as an appetizer and that was phenomenal. The service here was poor and the food was really not good. My friend ordered the chicken sandwich which normally comes with a bunch of (what I would call yummy) stuff. He very simply wanted the chicken, cheese and bun with yellow mustard on the side, though. After the server derided him about his choice, it still came wrong! I went here for the first time Monday night. I ordered the special vegan lasagna. It was very good but a little small. What I don't understand is why a small lasagna cost $19. I found that to be an outrageous price. I only ordered it because it was different. I could have easily been priced at $10 or even less. I've eaten and reviewed the 1st 56 kitchen in Solon and its one of our "go to" spots fair prices, great food, lots of variety. The staff knows the menu ( rare these days). Anyway we went to try the SOM location and Wow its more beautiful than Solon with this huge custom chandelier of the world made of nuts and bolts. Much like the real world. My wife enjoyed the Salmon delicious. And I had the salmon sandwich yummy. My only regret is that I changed my order from open face to a bun my mistake. Next time I'll leave it to the pros. The Love bird my favorite is a twist on a grilled chicken sandwich but taken to the next level on a toasted brioche bun with grilled brussel sprouts with a housemade sweet tomato jam is like no other sandwich you're had before! My husband had their original salad I know your thinking it's a salad but it much more than that the creamy garlic vinaigrette makes you want more and makes this more than just a salad. The maitre-d was friendly but after seating us we waited a considerable amount of time before our waitress Shannon arrived. Surprisingly the customer 2 tables over and next to us were attended to upon seating. (they both arrived after we did) Actually another employee male came from behind the counter to attend to the customer next to us. So my daughter picked up 4 salads for me. So close to 40 bucks we spent. Got home and they forgot my salad dressing on my oriental salad. My daughter got the gump salad and she bit into a raw shrimp. I agree that it is on the pricey side, but it's basically what you would pay for a dinner salad at a sit down joint. They do get you for $0.50 for extra dressing because apparently they'd go under if not for that, and you do get some spring mix with a lot of iceberg, but it's a salad. It's all about the toppings and dressing, and they didn't skimp on the chicken, olives, or feta. All the salads look to have been equally crafted. Went to Cafe 56 today for lunch as I had been before and it the food decent. Unfortunately the same did not hold true this time. First there was the wait to order (25 minutes), I understand that places are busy at lunch but this was just ridiculous. And then when I was at the front the guy taking my order picked up the phone to take other orders. And when told to focus on the people in the restaurant by (I assume) a manager he just ignored. Then as he was taking my order he disputed what I was saying, even thought I was reading of the board - exact quote "you mean the smoked turkey??" (my response was I dont know it says turkey, what a silly thing to argue with a customer about). After placing my order it was another 20-25 minute wait to get the food, which turned out to be mediocre. I have had better greek salads for less money at corner delis. I definitely will not be going back when there are better restaurants on either side that have friendly quick service and better food. Ways to improve: Make sure there is proper, friendly, staffing at busy times (IE - 12-1). Ensure that the food quality is consistent and can beat out the "corner deli" read more

Two friends and I recently went to Cafe 56 because it was conveniently located across the street from our residence. At first, we were pleasantly surprised by the delicious taste of the food and conversed about how we would be frequenting he establishment. As we were walking out we were discussing grabbing a beer at a local pub when all of a sudden it hit me, I had to drop one. I was the driver so I rushed everyone into the car and sped back to the house. Once we got there it had set in with all of us. We all took turns, one at a time, destroying the facility with no remorse. Once the debacle ended, and the premises had been cleaned the decision had been made.
