I was a big fan of Cafe 56, so when I saw that this spot was changing, I was downright devastated. My family used to love their salads and pretzel bagels just because they were that delicious and reasonably priced. With that in mind, the change to 56 kitchen is pretty major. Their salad selection is dramatically shaved down to under ten, and the vibe has definitely changed from a casual salad spot to a fancier dinner and drinks joint. Looking to try something new, I went for the love bird sandwich and a side salad. The chicken was nicely done and the brussels sprouts were an interesting and flavorful addition that I've never seen on a sandwich before! While it was very tasty, I think I understand why it's not been done. Paired with the "tomato jam" (a.k.a basically ketchup) and the moisture from the chicken, they made for one difficult to eat sandwich. I was fork-and-knifing it less than halfway through to keep them from sliding off the plate. Our server was impressively attentive - maybe even a little intrusive at points, but I'd definitely rather have someone who's there! He provided plenty of suggestions, kept the waters flowing, and even told us about the locally made art. The rest of the staff, though, were sort of awkwardly hanging around. I'm talking like seven people just standing in the corner watching us eat. I'm sure this will be resolved once the place picks up, but the waiter's station is very exposed. I felt a little under the microscope. I've never really been to a restaurant in its opening days, but I think 56 Kitchen can be something great once they settle in. It's a big step from a lunch spot to something more upscale and I think the area really needed something like this. Went there with a friend on March 9th and I ordered the mozzarella balls which were good but very overly priced and my friend ordered a pizza that she said was delicious. I placed a to go order on March 13th for pick up. Ordered the Margaretta pizza and added sausage, and when I got it home the bottom we scorched black and not editable! And you couldn't find the sausage that they charged $2.00 for. So the bottom line is when you want pizza stick with your traditional pizza restaurant's that specialize and know how to make a pizza and don't waste $17.00 on something that is a waste of money! read more

Wow the service! My husband and I came in for an impromptu birthday dinner. We were greeted right away at the door by Ed. We asked to sit and bar and was introduced to Brad. My husband ordered a gin cocktail and I'm 5 months pregnant and so he made me a fresh squeezed lemonade first and a sparkling water orange zest second. I felt so special. We ordered the calamari app and the best thing was the sauce! If I could I would've licked the plate! When it came time to order entrees we spoke to the Sous Chef Shay and she recommended the pork chop special and the salmon cooked well for me. And they didn't disappoint! My husband ate everything except the bone and I ate everything except the lemon!! We even tipped the cooks to show our appreciation. This was my first visit. I was in the area to use the fitness center and some other businesses in the area. I was trying to decide what to have for dinner and stopped in here. The menu is extremely versital with something for everyone. I decided on a pizza with the waitresses suggestion. Ham with bacon. It is not on my diet plan but was really good. Ordered take out the other night. It was super easy to do from their website. I ordered the Spesso pizza. I did not order it with the chili infused honey because I am not a honey fan. The other toppings (pepperoni, meatballs, and house made sausage) were absolutely delicious. The sauce was amazing too. My only knock on the pizza was that the dough was too thin near the center as the slices fell apart there. The taste definitely made up for that. My wife had the love bird grilled chicken sandwich. It came with Swiss cheese, tomato jam, fried brussel sprouts, and greens on a brioche bun. She loved the sandwich. She said the chicken was juicy and tender and the other ingredients were fresh. Very happy with the physical and menu transformation this restaurant has gone through. The interior is simple with an urban-style flair, with a nice little bar and in the warm weather, a roll-up front leading to a petite patio. This used to be a wonderful salad place, with soups, baked potato and such. The menu retains some salads, but has greatly expanded to include appetizers, pizza and assorted entrees. This location lets you pre-order and just pay and go! So far I have tried many different menu items. According to my yelp check-ins I have been here something like 25 times. Salads: -Millionaire (with chicken please!) -Napa Valley -Arizona Sun -Chicken Caesar -Beef Taco Salad -Fajita Chicken Taco Salad Other: -comfort bbq chicken sandwich on ciabatta Each one of these menu items has a unique, distinct, flavorful taste. You'll be sure to enjoy every bite with some left for later! These salads are quite large! Want to dine in? It can get busy in here during lunch hours. However, I have never been left without a spot should I want to sit and eat. Later in the day? No problem! They're open until a good hour and theyre usually quiet in the early evening. Tonight was our first time trying 56 Kitchen. We ordered a couple salads for take out..I know boring, but my husband and I were both excited for the pretzel bagels the salads came with! I ordered the SOM salad and added grilled chicken and my husband ordered a wedge. He assume for $10 it would be a pretty hearty salad and opTed out of adding a protein. Well, his salad was pretty sad looking for $10. My salad was $14.50 since I added grilled chicken and also think that was overpriced for what I actually received. The piece of chicken was small and precooked/cold. I thought I'd be getting a fresh, hot piece of grilled chicken, but that was not the casee. Overall, my salad was good, but nothing special. The homemade ranch was really good, but pretzel bagels that we were so excited for were nothing to write home about either. Not sure we will try it again based on price vs. quality. Next time we will stick with winking lizard or mulligans for takeout salads much better bang for your buck (both quality and quantity)! read more

She chose salad from Cafe 56. So I called ahead off I went. The salads were ready when I arrived. I ordered the asian dinner salad, which was $8.96. My parents suggested we go there for my brother's birthday. There were 8 of us so we got to try everything. 95% of what we tried was very good, 5% not at all. Everything there is made from scratch, you can see the kitchen out in the open and you can taste that in the quality of the food. Crispy Brussels Sprouts - good, Heirloom Tomato and Burrata Carpaccio - excellent, Grilled Peach and Mascarpone Dip - the only hiccup of the night, not good at all, Sweet Corn and White Bean Chowder Soup - good. For main courses: 4 cheese bianco - I am not a good judge of pizza as I don't eat it but my niece said it was good, my son had a burger - he said it was excellent, very big portion, fried chicken - this portion is absolutely huge and my brother devoured it, he said it was excellent (I didn't try it personally), barramundi (from their specials menu) - very good, walleye - excellent, grilled prime sirloin - excellent, definitely a great value at $23. For dessert - their house made donuts holes and flourless chocolate torte - both excellent. At the end of the night, the owner (Israel) stopped by our table, asked us for the feedback, when we mentioned our experience with the dip (see above), they promptly removed it from the bill. Our server (and I apologize I don't remember the name) - was excellent, very friendly and attentive. So why 4 stars and not 5? The noise level was very loud (we came on Friday night), at some points we didn't hear each other and since restaurant was very busy our server was trying to be in too many places at the same time. But, great experience overall, great value for the money and my daughter even mentioned that she will consider this restaurant for her birthday with her friends (they have semi-private room in the back that wouldn't be as loud so could work out perfectly) read more

So, I went back today to cash in on my replacement salad. I purposely ordered a different salad for a different experience. Lettuce was supposed to be mixed greens... it was romaine, which is better than the crappy iceberg last time. HOWEVER... the dressing was once again, not the one the menu said it would be. Last time, it was supposed to be green goddess, and who knows what it was, it only resembled green goddess in some ways. Today's was actually worse: it was supposed to be their stone ground mustard dressing, and I honestly have NO idea what it was. It SEEMED like it might have been a creamy Italian with chunks of bleu cheese. Which, wasn't terrible, but for God's sake folks... if you go through the trouble to list specific dressings with specific salads... put it in there! Otherwise, just give me a list to select from, and don't whet my appetite for something I am never apparently going to get. Ugh. I did however get my pretzel bagel today. Yay! So, while the ingredients are fresh looking and tasting, it would be nice to get the ones I order. Staff continues to be friendly, but I really need my orders to be consistently correct.
