Horrible experience again at this place. The food, although not cooked correctly, was ok. The issue was with their incompetent, unfriendly, and unprofessional manager. I don't remember his name but he's bald (not the GM). He came by our table and asked how things were and when I told him the steak was not cooked right his immediate response was "oh, that's 100% cooked right".....who in their right mind would say that to THEIR customers???? He then proceeded to ARGUE with me after me asking him multiple times to leave me alone so that I can attempt to enjoy the evening with my family but he just kept going on and on in front of my family. Later he attempted, if you want to call it that, to rectify himself. His attempt was this: 1) walk up from behind me 2) put his hands on me 3) then attempt to apologize. At that point I said "take your damn hands off me". His response..."whoa buddy you're getting out of control". I will never return based off this one "manager". He is an absolute disgrace to your establishment and for him to even call himself a manager is an absolute joke. Bruce, the GM, did come out and was very nice and I hope he handles it like he said he would. read more

I've been here three times now and it's so freaking delicious we don't mind the 25 minute drive each way. All of the food is delicious, I've never had a problem with my OpenTable reservation, and the management is very involved and goes to every table. Visited this restaurant last night as last minute decision to try someplace new. We arrived without a reservation and only had to wait 15mins. The place seemed busy. We started with the short rib poutine fries which I thought were pretty good! They also give complimentary bread which was good but parts of the white bread was really salty(almost as though the dough wasn't mixed well enough). For dinner I had the thanksgiving dinner which was ok. The potatoes were good as was the stuffing...the turkey I wish was a thicker cut but wasn't bad. It was a lot of food. My husband had the half rack ribs and fries which he said were good although didn't love the BBQ sauce. My son ordered the 4cheese? Flatbread which came to the table with a long strand of hair on it...we were able to show the waitress before she even left the table and she said she'd have another made. She did let us know it'd be 10mins and asked if we wanted something else while waiting...my son asked for sweet potato fries. The pizza was mediocre but fries were good. I was a little frustrated when we received the check as typically the restaurant will give some kind of discount for the inconvenience and gross factor of finding hair in your food but not here! AND they charged for the fries...the waitress seemed as though she was going to bring him something on the house for the wait but not the case. I don't mind paying for what I eat but customer experience should be factored in in my opinion. Also, I caught the "runner" stealing a shrimp off a customers plate before bringing it to their table! We have NEVER been disappointed when dining here. It has been a wonderful place for my fiancé and I to relax, eat dinner, and catch up on the days events after work. They have a seasonal cocktail menu which contains several creative and yummy adult concoctions to sip on whole chatting. We share (and highly recommend) the calamari appetizer and for entrees the Filet Mignon (8 oz.) and the Seered Scallops. Service and staff has ALWAYS been excellent. They definitely put time and money in as far as ambience goes. On a Wednesday night, the place was packed with a lively bar scene (with an older crowd). Make a reservation if you want to have dinner. For food, the bacon sampler is definitely unique & worth a try. The pot stickers and buffalo wings were average. The short rib grilled cheese is solid. Staff was helpful despite the long wait. Came here for lunch during a workday because we wanted to try a new place. The flatbreads were amazing. At first glance it seemed a little pricey for lunch but the food and service are excellent and after now eaten there I do not have an issue with the prices. They have a ton of beers on tap they rotate every month and they are mostly local bears. Give it a try. The one thing I did find out is they do take reservations which is a huge plus. The one negative I have is we were in the bar area and it was a little cramped and noisy this time of day. There are no soft surfaces to dampen the noise. Went to dinner here tonight for a date and was happy with the food overall but disappointed with the service. First, We asked the server for a certain type of alcohol which they didn't have for a mixed drink. Totally fine. We asked what they had instead, most which we were unfamiliar with. Of course she told us the most expensive one on the list without explaining. Ended up being $35.00 to our surprise for a basic mixed drink. More than double what we spent on our entrees. I think the courteous thing to do would to have at least said, hey this one costs this amount, are you ok with that? Highly recommend they need a liquor list on the digital menu. I recognize our bad for not asking, but still, should at least give customers a heads up or have a price list for liquor as all the other cocktails were between 10-14 dollars. Secondly, the service was incredibly rushed. We placed our cocktail and appetizer orders together and then entrees separate. Meals came out not even 5 minutes after the apps. Barely touched the appetizers because of it. The server was so fast too that when my partner was ordering a second drink, and I was about to do the same, she left before I could even speak up. This happened a couple of times. Just wanted a nice relaxing evening out and it was clear they were just rushing for some reason which made us feel uncomfortable. read more

my husband & i had a great meal here last night! we took reccommendations from our waitress when we were deciding between options and her advice didn't steer us wrong. We started with waygu beef sliders which were excellent. My husband had a ribeye which was very well prepared & I ordered the short rib, which had good flavor & was not dry. the smoked polenta & brussel sprouts complimented it well. The dessert options looked a little underwhelming but we shared a skillet cookie, which was perfect size for two to share. I also had a perfect glass of chianti and my husband enjoyed some of his favorite beers. We were seated in the bar room, which was loud, but we didn't mind it. We have been here several times knowing that it takes a little time to get the kinks out. The service has gotten worse instead of better. We waited so long for apps that the hostess literally was surprised and took our drink and appetizer order. When we finally got a waitress she asked if we were ready to order and we said we were still reviewing. She left and came back in less than 2 minutes and asked us again. We all looked at each other and assumed she had forgotten she just asked us. When we did place our order we never saw the waitress again until the manager asked if everything was good. In the end we waited so long that we asked to have the food wrapped for take out. They really need to get it together or this place isn't going to be here much longer. read more

The food is great. Hands down one of the best burgers I have ever had. The service is meh. Like other reviewers have stated, it is extremely slow. We sat for a good 10 minutes before we were approached for our drink orders. Our apps took a while and the burgers took even longer (with burgers, I usually give a pass because (hopefully) they are being made fresh). I'll also add that we went for lunch, so there were maybe 2 or 3 other tables seated at the time. The waitress was NOT the nicest in the beginning. She legitimately rolled her eyes when I asked for a side of bbq sauce. She seemed to warm up a little towards the end. But it took some serious work on our part. Shouldn't be that way, I'm not there for a job interview. I'll be back for sure. The food was worth it. I'll just be better prepared for the miserable service. read more

We usually LOVE 59 almshouse but had a disappointing experience last night. We did curbside takeout and when we brought it home, we noticed some changes in our dishes. I ordered the sesame ahí tuna which is my FAVORITE and when I looked it was served with YELLOW rice instead of the sticky rice. I'm sorry but that's just not an ok substitution. Yellow rice and ahí tuna do not go together. If i had known they were out of the sticky rice, I would've ordered something else. The yellow rice had a few pieces of nori on it and everything just smelled super fishy. My husband ALWAYS gets the mahi BLT and when he opened up the container it was 2 tiny pieces of wonder bread instead of the normal fluffy bread it normally comes on. We completely understand that these are hard times, but please be honest and tell us when ordering if you're out of something. When we spoke to the manager she was barely apologetic and offered no type of refund or anything. We were super disappointed last night. read more

Been here 3 times. Each more disappointing than the time prior. Never had a good or average meal-tried something different every time. The wings were the only okay thing that I had. Had a $12ish mushroom burger the first time. Tasteless, cooked to the wrong temp, had to smother it in ranch left over from wings. This was around the time they opened. The second time I went to the outside bar-st Patty's day-before my bar shift around the corner. Waited 10 min to be acknowledged by bartender (mind you I had 45 min to get to work) put my whole order in. Food (calamari and edamame-chosen due to quickness) took 30 min to come out. Food was decent, again over priced and waited ridiculously long-shoved it in my mouth to take off to work. Drink was good. Gave it one more try with my friends family last cinco de mayo. Drank a watered down margarita and ordered some sort of steak or prime rib sandwich-worst sandwich ever-lacking any flavor-super dry. Have not and will not be back. Went here for lunch on a Friday. Sat outside on the patio and the service was great. The bees got a little annoying and the server offered to move us inside or get the food to go. We were enjoying the outside, but it was SOOOO nice of the server to just offer to help. The food and drinks were fantastic too. Everything was fresh, served nicely and tasted great. I love coming here the food is always great. The salads, flatbreads, wings, fries and all the burgers are always a safe bet. The wasbi Mayo is amazing and whatever that chipotle sauce is, is to die for! I love the Asian slaw and the hint of ginger. I love the taste of the food, it's American mixed with a little bit of unusual. I would say this is way above American bar food standards for sure! The best salads in town. Servers are very nice. Drinks from the bar are made extremely well. It's understandable of the long wait due to covid to be seated and served. It's worth the wait. I respect it. The general manager is always working every time I come here to eat and he is truly a hard worker and always on his toes and handles and resolves any issues quickly. This is my favorite spot to eat locally and I'm very happy to hear their open still and the food quality is still the same. Keep up the good work! read more

We have tried this place a couple of times. The bar area is very nicely done and draft beer selection is great. The food was below avg...missing just one thing... Taste. We both had the steak and it was a disappointment. The server did a great job however the hostess was somewhat rude. She almost appeared to revel in bragging of the long wait time. Mediocre service and we were asked to leave our high top at the bar before 3 out of 9 of us were finished drinking our drink because they said they had reservations. (We were in the BAR. That was a first for all of us.) The appetizers were not very good; the chicken quesadillas had chunks of chicken in them that were inedible. We had to ask for plates, spoons, etc for the appys. Good morning ! I'd like to take a moment to give a little feedback on our very first experience at 59 Almshouse. We are new to the area and I asked a co-worker, (who lives in Holland) if she could recommend somewhere nice to meet another couple for dinner. Her immediate response 59 Almshouse. We arrived at 6:30 last night, (Wed) and were advised by the hostess that our table of 5 would be waiting at least 45 minutes as there were 2 large parties due in at the same time. We all rolled our eyes, however I was the one who spoke up and suggested we just wait, as I had heard the food was good. About 10 minutes later, the hostess came by and said that a table had elected to sit at the bar and she could now seat us. We were seated and ordered apps, entrees and drinks. The drinks and apps came right out and in the "proper" amount of time, the entrees were brought to the table. Our 12 year old son had ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and fries, however that was not brought to the table. After about 10 minutes we asked our server about his order and she asked us " what did he get" ? We told her it was a grilled cheese, and she went in back to check on it. Another 5 minutes went by and she came back to tell us that the kitchen had " missed the grilled cheese and that they were now preparing it. All the food that came to the table was VERY GOOD, the Bangin' Shrimp, the Jambalya and the Fajitas were exceptional. At the end, we placed an order for two desserts. My son ordered Key Lime Pie, and our friends ordered a pound cake sundae of some sorts. When our friend ordered the sundae, she specifically stated she would like to have a scoop of ice cream with it. Our server, instead of saying..."Sure, we can do that , but the ice cream is an extra charge", only replied..."the Ice cream doesn't come with it, that will be extra". (The statement just came across as being abrasive). 20 minutes went by, and we called our server over to the table and reminded her that we ordered dessert. Her reply to us without ever breaking stride to her next table , was " I know, It's coming, we're really busy back there". All of us just looked at each other in utter disbelief of the flippant response we just received. Another 5 minutes passed, and the dessert came out. Our server placed the sundae on the table and said, "sorry it took so long, we ran out of pound cake and had to bake more just for you". A quick taste of the pound cake and it was cold, just like the whipped so NO...it wasn't just baked. Oh, and the scoop of ice cream ? Never got that either. I applaud your food and your restaurant. I wish I could say the same for our server. Sadly, our gratuity to her reflected her service. We will be back ! I do think that everyone is entitled to a bad day. However, when a party of 5 drops $180 for dinner, I guess we all hope that her bad day was "the day before" Thank You for taking the time to allow me to share our experience. Had our first visit here this past Saturday night. We've driven past numerous times while it was both being built and since they've opened. I have to admit it took a bit of coaxing to give this place a try given the totally unassuming exterior that doesn't give away the expertise they have inside. Upon arrival at 8pm, we were told without a reservation it'd be an hour and half wait. Luckily, we were able to snag a corner spot at the bar and we were so happy for the experience. Our bartender was quick and attentive. We ordered the calamari, Almshouse fries, and the American burger with bacon and a side of cooper fries. All selections were spot on-delivered quickly and cooked to perfection. We were both so pleased with our first visit here, we are already planning our next trip. I can't wait to try their other menu items and I will definitely be trying their drinks which looked amazing. I highly recommend! read more

I have been to 59 Almshouse many times since they have been open. While their food and drinks are good, the service really leaves a lot to be desired. I have had an issue with the service pretty much every time I have been here. The first time, my credit card was charged twice for the cost of my meal. I had to talk to a manager for it to be corrected. I have since been to 59 Almshouse four times for happy hour in the last year. You go into happy hour thinking your getting a good deal. Wrong. Every time I have been here for happy hour the check is wrong. Tonight our waitress acknowledged that our check was wrong, went back to correct it, gave us a new check and it was still wrong! It's really a shame because we love the food and drinks, but unfortunately their service leaves a bad taste in our mouth after multiple failures to deliver the correct check.
