Stopped by the tavern for a quick drink in the very dark tavern-- so dark, you can go in the middle of the daytime and you'll feel like it's nighttime in here (I'm not complaining, I do prefer that). There is an arcade game or two in the corner that was not being used, and a fireplace on the other side of the room to give off a little bit more of a comforting feel. The crowd this weekday evening looks as though they've just got off from work. There's some bar seating, as well as a few tables. There's just about no craft beer selection, with the exception of Dogfishhead 60 minute, but there's also a cider available as well. Service was quick, and almost too attentive- I guess because there weren't too many people in at this time. Great place to grab a beer, but I can't imagine I'd spend an entire evening here. However, most of the great reviews here were with food orders, so perhaps I'll return and try the food, and then re-evaluate my review. read more

Some friends told me to have dinner here so I brought the fam for a Friday evening dinner. I had previously hung out in the bar area and was never wowed. When you walk in any area of the bar or dining area you can definitely see the age of the building and appreciate its construction and preservation, however the menu states a rehab was completed in the 70's. They are way past due for little refresh. When we walked into the back dining area our shoes kept getting stuck on the carpet which was a huge letdown and the bathrooms were dated. No nasty smells or anything thankfully. The tables were clean so another plus there. I think if they invested in some new flooring in the dining area instead of carpet that would be a major plus! Food wise, our dinner was very good and the staff was fast and very friendly. The brought us out a bread basket which had a mix of regular rolls and garlic bread with dipping sauce. For appetizers my wife and I ordered cups of lobster crab bisque which had a really nice peppery kick. The soup itself was slightly less creamy than I usually enjoy, but it had lots of flavor, chunks of crab and a sweet and spicy bite. For dinner my wife ordered the Filet Mignon 8 Oz. Center Cut Served on a Bed of Creamy Roquefort Sauce. She devoured it and it was cooked to order. I enjoyed a plate of Fra Diavolo which was served on linguini and was topped with crab, mussels, scallops and shrimp. It was a huge serving which made two extra lunches the following days. The spice factor was perfect and the seafood was fresh, plentiful and cooked just right. My son had raviolis with a meatball and they also brought us out small dishes of a penne with butter and chopped broccoli which he enjoyed. Portions were big, food was delicious and we were under $100 with plenty of food taken home. The menu is a mix of a pub/restaurant you could get something simple like a chicken sandwich or burger or go with a pasta, seafood, veal, or steak dish so there is really something for everyone. I didn't feel the menu was over the top either it had a great variety. I'll definitely return. read more

I live within walking distance of this place, and I've never once stepped foot inside. What a shame, because it's a true gem. One of the most historic Revolutionary War era buildings in the area, dating back 300+ years, now serves up some incredible eats in a rustic tavern setting. The menu is vast, and our party of 5 ordered a wide variety of items. Entrees range from $10-25 with seafood, pasta, veal, steak, and variety of soups, salads, daily specials, and sandwiches to round out the selection. They have a decent selection of your standard beers and wines, with one "Craft on Draft" (Dogfish 60 minute IPA the night I was here). The place was pretty quiet on the Tuesday night we met here for dinner. We ordered our drinks and food, and we were given some delicious, buttery garlic bread and marinara to chomp on while we waited for our meals. We all got our soup/ salads first. My friend ordered the lobster/crab bisque, and it was SO delicious but very, very rich. Our salads were nothing special. It took about 45 minutes for our main meals to make their entrance. The place was hardly busy, so I'd hate to see how long it would take on a bumpin' night. We didn't mind waiting though. The atmosphere is very conducive to sipping on drinks and chatting. The impatience I felt waiting for our food disappeared as soon as our plates came. You can tell just by looking at the food that it's all made fresh, from scratch. My mom ordered veal parm - it was a heaping plate - could easily feed 3 people, and it looked delicious! I ordered stuffed shells with meat sauce, and I was not disappointed. The food was piping hot and melty. The three other folks at our table ordered seafood, and they were thrilled with their selections, ranging from cod and salmon, to mussels and scallops, all cooked perfectly and drizzled in just the right amount of butter. Our service was slow, but not terrible. Our server was kind and lovely and seemed to be running the whole place alone. This is a great, unique option for dining in downtown Langhorne. Even if you just want a place to watch Philly sports, the bar will suit you fine - a good, dim-lit dive. I highly recommend ordering from their food menu, I was thoroughly impressed. read more

This was a second visit for my wife and I. I wanted to pick a nice place to dine to celebrate our 40+ years from when we first met. What an excellent choice. The entire staff could not be better. They were so friendly and accommodating. The service was excellent. We were even seated right near the antique fireplace where there was a cozy fire in a gas style wood burning stove. The alcohol drinks were great. The food servings were just the right amount. There was toasted garlic bread and a small penne pasta & broccoli appetizer included before the entree. I had a Jack Daniels soup. It had a sweet taste to it. Excellent! Never had a soup like this one before. The beef I had was perfectly cooked medium like I ask for. It melted in my mouth. The plain cheesecake for desert was excellent. Usually my wife & I would take home leftovers. There was nothing left when we got done. The atmosphere of this restaurant is great. Nice big bar, historic appeal with the antique stone fireplace, inside a historic building. We were about to drive away when the hostess ran out to my truck to give me my eyeglasses that I have forgotten and left at the table. This is how wonderful they were there. Food is great bar service is miserable.... went there 2 times in the past week due to some events, same bartender both times. The 1st time she was OK, the 2nd time was a Wednesday when there was a live band across the street. You would have thought this girl HATED business. We were there early, so it wasn't even busy yet. She acted like she was so bothered by us being there. I worked in the service industry for years and understand sometimes you have some moments, but she was unapologetically rude. I just don't understand... flash a smile every now and then, or even if you are having a bad night, just say so.... people understand. Instead, she made comments about how we were "killing" her when ordering food. Again... the only table with a few people at the bar. She made us feel bad for ordering anything!!! I just can't get over the attitude. So sad because it is a cool little place, but who needs the aggravation. read more

The Langhorne Hotel Tavern & Restaurant, is located in a beautiful and historic town. Victorian houses have been kept in pristine condition and painted in every color of the rainbow. Originally a log and stone building, built around 1700, this hotel has gone through many architectural changes and ownership. It was originally a "House of Entertainment" with a very large tavern. In 1905 the new owner turned it into a Country Inn. Travelers from Philadelphia would stop for meals on their trips to New York. Stagecoaches full of families, would come from all over just to dine here. In the hotel yard, there was a large livery stable with stalls for horses, a two story carriage house that was used to store wagons, carriages, and sleighs when not in use. The langhorne Hotel was transformed during WW1, prohibition, WW11 and the great depression. During WW11, the US government approached George G. Ehrlen, who had purchased the Hotel in 1905 and offered subsequent housing, so the building could be turned into five apartments for workers in local war plants. Ruth, the daughter of Mr.Ehrlen, is still alive and living in the house next door, She has many tales to tell and pictures to show. After the war the building was returned to the owner and remained empty until it was sold, once again. They renovated the first floor and resumed business. During one of the many renovations to the building, Ruth Irwin was able to salvage one of the original fireplace mantels which she still has in her present home. The hotel was sold in 1972, to the present owners, who maintain residency there and run the family owned business. Knowing they had a reservation for a party of twenty five, they had one server on, the owner came out and asked her if she needed him to call in another server, she said no, where he should have just taken the lead and called in more help. She was friendly, but running around like a chicken with her head cut off. She was also running the register and had her drawer full of money on the counter. I had to finally get up to get our menus and informed her that the cash drawer was out. The bartender came out to bus our table, told her she had a table in the tavern and wanted to know if she could pick it up. First the server said no, my head swung around and then she said, you go ahead and take it. The bar is large and the tavern seats quite a few people. Dimly lit, with a lot of old dark wood, beautiful fireplaces and down to earth friendly servers. The owner makes his presence known and will chat with you, for as long as you want. The entrance way has two large wooden booths, which have to be antiques and the main dining room, which was added on, is quite modern. The food... We used to dine here, years ago and we really did enjoy the food, however our recent visit here left us bewildered. We were not at all pleased with the quality, flavors or presentation. Maybe we ordered the wrong things and we did not complain, but I can not foresee rushing back there again. From the list of seventeen appetizers, hubby ordered the very small breaded clams casino, which were the best part of our entire meal. I had the crab imperial stuffed mushrooms, which had a lot of breading and they were just okay. We shared a huge Caesar salad, with the dark green outside leaves, they were lifeless. No anchovies were available for this un-crisp salad and powdered Parmesan topped it. The dressing was more like a ranch, with no hint of lemon or anchovy paste. Their side offerings leave a lot to be desired and are very old school. It is either fries, baked potato, a veggie melody, applesauce, jarred beets or cottage cheese. They have eighteen seafood entrees, nine veal dishes, three steaks, many chicken entrees, twenty seven different sandwiches and many choices of pasta. It was lunch time and we were hungry, hubby ordered the spaghetti with grilled sausages. He made it a point to ensure it was spaghetti and not linguine, he is so picky. They brought him super over cooked, to the point of mush linguine. He had them wrap it, even though he ended up pitching it. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken cheesesteak. Words can not justify the disaster of this sandwich. I like heat, but this was blazing hell, I love blue cheese, but not in a runny disgusting looking sauce. The real turn off was the chicken, it almost looked like someone had chewed it, spit it out and put it on the roll. They did not, but that was the consistency of the poultry. I had them box it, I took it home and tossed it out. Entertain yourselves here with a drink, reading the history of the Langhorne Hotel, from the place mats in front of you, enjoy the fireplace and a few apps. Maybe I should have tried the fried cod and chips, the fries were good. This Hotel has a wonderful past, but I fear for it's future, unless they hire a good cook. read more

The complimentary small dish of pasta is soo good and I'd get that as a main dish if I didn't want to try everything else. We ended up eating here 3 times in the first 2 weeks. The Langhorne Hotel has anchored the corner of Maple and Bellevue for a couple of centuries. The world around it may have changed, but this establishment has not, except for a few architectural modifications to accommodate the uses to which it was being put. This is both good and not so. Walking into the tavern area throws you into the Eighteenth Century, where the local Sons of Liberty gathered to plot the Revolution. Downside, the beer selection is from the same era. The dining area is also dated to about 1890. The menu is solid for a 1960's kitchen. Everything is well prepared and tasty, but if you want something in the way of vegetarian, vegan, or even contemporary cuisine, it will be hard to find. The burgers, traditional Italian, and usual suspects are present. As long as that is what you want, you will be satisfied. Today I tried the Italian Sausage with Peppers and Onions in red sauce over Linguini for a lunch special. At $7.99 the price was right. I enjoyed the meal, but there was nothing memorable about it. We turned lunch into a work meeting and remained for more than an hour after we finished eating. The room was practically deserted on a August Friday afternoon. We were not rushed, and the room was comfortable, if somewhat brown in tone. A new menu, broader beer options, fresh coat of paint and new carpets would go a long way to bring the Langhorne Hotel a new clientele. But, if they did that, the Sons of Liberty in the tavern might go elsewhere to plot our way to independence. Maybe we are wise to leave well enough alone. read more

We had French Onion Soup, terrific . The broth was more than just the usual soup stock. Flounder Franceis and Tallapia. Both were great. Good coffee and good desserts. It's just a great all around neighborhood eatery. Service was very on top of it as well. Thanks for a great dinner! We shall return. Well went back and to much dismay it was just plain lousy. Parm encrusted tilapia was actually in a pool of butter. The free app of pasta and broccoli was like salt lick. It's really a shame considering how cool of a building they have and it's rich history. Okay so maybe 4.5 stars- I have never been to a sit down meal here, so maybe my score would go down if I did, but this score is based entirely on the bar. The bar has it's own entrance on the street, but can also be accessed through the dining room. You can park in their small lot, or you can park anywhere on Maple ave, which is all free street parking. The houses along Maple ave are really beautiful, so if you don't park in the lot, park a little ways down Maple so that you can enjoy your walk with the beautiful historic homes! The town of Langhorne is famous for it's heavily historical buildings, and the Langhorne Hotel is one of them. Due to this, they can't do too much to change it, but I am happy this is the case- the beautiful exposed beams compliment the rustic attitude of the bar. The bar its self may not be large (probably 10-15 bar stools), but the rest of the bar is filled with seat yourself tables and chairs. They are not always completely clean, but the hard working staff do their best to get to them before you sit down! Around the holiday season, the bar area is decorated with lighted garland, as well as stocking for all of the staff which is a nice, personal touch. Every bartender I have interacted with here has been very pleasant. They are all from the area, so the local feeling flows right through your drink- they will treat you like they know you. They may not have the largest selection of beers since it's a smaller bar, but they definitely try to always have something new and upbeat. One can find a hand written sign saying what the fun beer currently is- this week, it was Leinenkugel's Ginger Cranberry- something I have not seen anywhere else! See what I mean? They only really had one craft, but what they had was new/rare. If you can, go on a Wednesday night at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night is $0.50 wings, and their wings are actually pretty good!! I would recommend going a bit early so that you can grab a table before the crowd comes rolling in. If you leave a good tip, they ring a bell and the whole bar yells. It's fantastic. Once again, that sense of local, being around friends, really follows through here. read more

One of the best burgers in the area, most of the other stuff I've had there is good too. On the other hand, kind of dark and outdated, typical American pub look. Usually having lunch there takes more than an hour, its rare to get in and out. I had a coworker order a similar ravioli special Sean B. mentioned, it was the same price as our burgers and he left unsatisfied. The Langhorne Hotel is a pretty straight forward tavern, but most of what they do, they do really well. PROS: Awesome fries! If you like fries that actually taste like potatoes and not super salty greasy mushy I don't know what, you'll totally dig these fries. They used to have really good fries, then a few months ago they changed them. Now they're the best fries I've ever had. Really good burgers. Really good chicken sandwiches. The breaded buffalo sandwich is awesome! And they use really blue blue cheese and it's nice and crumbly. Not that blue cheese dressing crap. Their blackened chicken deluxe sandwich is totally awesome too. Every appetizer I've had has been anywhere between pretty good and really good. Try their asparagus rollatini. Crazy good. CONS: The service is a little on the slow side. Getting seated, taking your order and following up with you after you've gotten your food are all fine, but it just takes kind of long to get your food. As long as you're not in a big hurry, it won't bother you. The prices are a little higher than I'd like to pay for lunch, but they're not totally out of hand. NEITHER PRO NOR CON: The decor is pretty average for a local tavern/bar type restaurant. Summary, if you dig this type of restaurant, you won't be disappointed. Most of what I've had here is better than almost everywhere else I've gotten the same foods. Definitely check it out. read more

Stopped in for dinner last night because we knew there wouldn't be a wait. The food was delicious but the service was excruciatingly slooooooow. The waitress was incapable of performing more than 1 task at a time. We sat so long before being able to order we thought that they had forgotten we had been seated. We had to ask for silverware and a napkin. We had to ask for drink refills. No one came back to check on us. We had to ask for a box for our leftovers. We eventually had to even ask for our check all while the waitress stood and chatted with her tables right next to us! It was very uncomfortable. We then had to hand our bill and cash payment to a busser because the waitress was nowhere to be found...again. We left a 20% tip because that's what we do but I don't think I'll go back. Dinner took us close to an hour longer than it should have. read more

My hubby daughter and i went here for Valentine's day and we really loved the food. They gave us complimentary bread and a complimentary pasta dish and both were delicious. The bread was toasted with butter and herbs and came with marinara sauce. My eggplant parm was yummy and the portion was big. My hubby got steak and really enjoyed it. My daughter got tuna steak, it was a special and she enjoyed it as well. If there was one thing to say it would be my hubby and daughter wished there was mashed potatoes. Decent joint for a neighborhood hangout...lots of locals and good people! The one drawback is the size...the dining area is reasonable, but the service can be slow, so go out for an evening, not a quickie :-) The bar side is small...at times it is a little cramped, but the customers are fun and the atmosphere is nice for a local watering hole...give it a shot and you'll be satisfied. Easy street parking, nice old building, bartender was on point with the drinks, & as I was STARVING after working a 12-hr shift, they had a pretty decent late- night menu....I got their version of Buffalo wings, which were good & spicy, & also a decent size. I've been here 4-5 times alone and with friends both in the bar and in the restaurant. The food here isn't that bad and there's a variety of it; but it takes a long time to get it, and service is very slow. Also the restaurant itself is very small. This was our first time at the Langhorne Hotel. Our friends eat here all the time and invited us to dinner. The food was really excellent. First, the garlic bread they bring to the table was awesome and they kept it coming! Our meals were delicious and the portions were LARGE! Filet mignon, chicken with sautéed mushrooms, seafood combo and broiled salmon. All fantastic! The service was superb and the atmosphere warm and cozy with the fireplace going. Fantastic restaurant! Great food with a touch of history. The old section (the original restaurant) is more quaint - boasting a fireplace and an intimate setting. The new addition is nice, and I'm glad they did it so you don't have to wait as long for a table, but the atmosphere is definitely not the same. Recently had dinner on a Saturday evening with my better half and it was delicious! We were promptly seated and given drinks and our order was taken by a delightful waitress. My wife opted for the shrimp parm, I went for the veal parm and both were outstanding. Our entrees came with salads that were fresh and very good. Or entrees were very generous portions with plenty of melted mozzarella and fresh tasty sauce. Both the veal and shrimp were tender. We had enough for leftovers which they gladly gave us containers.
