The food is 4 stars but the covid precautions knock the review to a 3. The glove wearing was inconsistent among the staff and I noticed some had holes which defeats the purpose. They also used paper menus. The patio seating had good air circulation but I was still a bit surprised at the number of people. I understand the need for the business which is why I chose to sit in patio rather than indoors. My dining companion loved the fajitas and the serving was a very generous portion. I had the seared ahi tuna which was fine. The tempura green beans side was great! Had dinner here on a Saturday night with some friends. Coming with a group was great since we got to share more plates than we would have coming by ourselves (2 people). This is an elevated grastropub menu with the dishes prepared very well. Service was great and the drinks were good for the most part. The reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is due to my first drink. I ordered a high quality bourbon (Whistle Pig) on the rocks. It was served with a full glass of crushed ice which is not the way to treat this type of drink at all. It was so watered down by the time it reached the table it was not very enjoyable. I did make the mistake of keeping it and not sending it back, that's on me and I paid for it without one word, but the bartender should have known better. The next rounds were ordered neat with a side of rocks and I was able to enjoy them properly. i cannot get the poutine fries out of my head. done perfectly and extremely flavorful. the wood fired wings were also very good as you can taste the char and that added lots of character to the flavor everyone loved the octopus appetizer, i didn't have it though had the baby back ribs with sweet potato fries. for a non bbq style ribs, these were very good, fall off the bone good. i would not hesitate to come back here again and again. read more

Carole our server was great, very attentive! The food was delicious. We started with fried pickle chips as an appetizer and the kids had chicken fingers and fries. I might add the poutine fries were stellar, as someone who is from Buffalo we certainly value our gravy/fries and neighbors to the north. The gravy was delicious. We stopped in for lunch on a whim and it was a good choice! We sat at the bar and although the bartender was busy, she served us quickly and was overall attentive and friendly. The menu has lots of choices some kind of unique things! We ordered the Asian salad with Thai chicken and the Hawaiian Poke Bowl. Both came out with a wonderful presentation! I chose this restaurant since we have been here several times for lunch and the food was excellent. We wanted to give it a try for dinner. I ordered the filet mignon. It was the best I have ever had. I could literally cut it with my fork. It was prepared as ordered. The entire dish was delicious. My husband got the NY strip. He said also it was one of the best he ever had. I'm going to start off with that the service is terrible. It was dead and took the hostess 5 min of standing in front of her to get us a seat. We had a reservation. Once sat down it took another 10 min for a waitress to come over. And another 5 to put in our drink order. We sat right next to the bar and two beers took another 10 min. Sitting here now we still haven't put in our food order, still waiting a half hour later. It's absolutely unacceptable. The waitress hardly came back. The table next to us was complaining about the same thing. It took them 20 min to get an appetizer or guacamole. The atmosphere is good. I want to like this place but I'm not sure I can with how bad the service is. I'm very disappointed so far and still waiting for our waitress to order our food. Hopefully the food is amazing to make up for the terrible service. Appetizers were very good. We got wings and the grilled shishito peppers with goat cheese. They took forever to come out. It took so long that we decided against a full meal as we did not want to wait another hour for our meal. One of the beers we ordered was sitting for so long they had to stir it to get the head back. Tuesday was our 42nd anniversary and I've had this place on my radar for months. Made a reservation for dinner but planned to arrive early and check out Happy Hour at the bar. Came in and the hostess acknowledged our arrival and was totally OK with our plan. They let us know that we could be seated any time we were ready. Two seats available at the patio bar and given menus (several of them) immediately. A seasoned bartender and her trainee were working. I asked about Happy Hour specials and got the rundown. I love a good martini, so asked what the call liquors were for the $8 special. Tanqueray and Titos are both available. The trainee made our Gin Martini's, shaken and strained, with a few ice chips, and three olives, just the way I like it. (YMMV). After reviewing the Happy Hour Food Choices and seeing some come to the bar, (The Wings and Fries looked good) we ordered a cheese plate for $11. A good assortment of 4 cheeses, fig jam, honey mustard, grapes, apples, crostini, and crackers. Could easily be shared by four. There is active conversation across the bar as many seem to be regulars and engaged us in the discussion. I like that. We finished off Happy Hour with a glass of wine each. I had a Cabernet. It was better than box and 1.5 L El Cheapo. A fair deal for the $6 price. A nice generous pour. The bar cleared as Happy Hour Ended (3:30-5:30) and we headed to our table. We had plenty of time to review the menu and already had the cheese plate, so we weren't planning appetizers, although several sounded appealing, including the octopus. I ordered off the dinner special menu and got whole fried branzino served Thai style. A pretty darned good rendition. Fish was cooked nicely with an asian slaw, with just enough heat to draw a tear. I ate the whole thing. Sticky rice was, well sticky. Patty ordered the Paella, which came in a bowl and had a variety of well seasoned and cooked seafood, including mussels, shrimp, clams. It also had chicken and andouille. She barely touched it. I forget to mention the side dish of tempura style string bings, that we asked to have brought out early. Thinly encrusted, steaming hot, we devoured them before our entrees arrived. I'd order them as an appetizer next time. We each got a glass of wine with dinner. I got Schild, Australian Zin. Nice and priced about right @ $13/glass. Patty had The Juggernaut, a wine she's familiar with, went well with her dinner. Service was fine. Attentive but not intrusive. No long waits for anything. Paced about right. Right up until the check, no issues. I did see a few giant cocktails go by that I asked about. A LI Iced Tea and some sort of rum punch. Caught my eye but not really my thing. I would like to try some of the house special cocktails that looked intriguing including the Smoked Old Fashioned. I will return again. This was a test the waters meal. Check with Taxes for dinner (not including happy hour) was $99 for two, including two glasses of wine and one side. I can't really comment on noise level or crowd as this was early on a Tuesday. I just had the Crispy Mahi Fish Tacos last night, and I can confirm that they are the best I have ever had. My wife had a BBQ chicken Flatbread that was to die for. If you are a craft beer lover, they have a selection that is LITERALLY world class with selections like King Sue (Toppling Goliath) and Lunch (Maine Brewing) - look them up. Service was EXCELLENT and our waitress was as joy filled as my mother was when I came home for the holidays. Beer selection was average (no sour beers). The menu at 59 Almshouse is all over the map. The entree section alone includes Thanksgiving-style turkey dinner, jambalaya, and sticky rice, just to name a few. But don't let that scare you off. Everything we tried was delicious. My jambalaya (pictured) was a very generous serving of rice and proteins in a flavorful broth. It had a small kick, just enough to notice. And the huge chunk of cornbread was fantastic. Even having eaten cornbread last night and earlier the same day, I finished the entire piece! My companions enjoyed their meals as well. The French dip sandwich was stuffed full of meat--definitely no skimping here--and the fries looked great. The Thanksgiving dinner was enough to get me excited for real Thanksgiving in a few weeks. I have driven past 59 Almshouse quite a few times and never noticed it. I recently heard about it from a fellow Yelper and decided to check it out. We do not live in the area but apparently the local crowd knows this place well. We had 5:30 dinner reservations and it was half full when we arrived. By the time we left at 7pm the place was packed, including the inside bar, outside bar and parking lot. Inside is spacious yet cozy. Both the inside and outside bar are energetic. Big screen TV's at the bars and bar dining area. Since it was a pleasant evening we decided to sit outside. They have a 2 level patio with market umbrellas, a bar and fireplace. We started with the Baked Brie. OMG this was one of the best apps I've ever had. Even my husband who only ate Brie for the first time Superbowl Sunday said this app was amazing! The Brie, which is topped with crushed pistachios, is baked just enough so it cut and spread easily. It was served with lavender honey which I have deemed Nectar of the Gods. It was fantastic. The brie plate with completed with apple slices, blueberries, grapes and crostini. It was like eating dessert before dinner. Marvelous!! I had the naked burger with sweet potato fries. The burger was juicy, cooked medium rare and loaded with Vermont cheddar. My husband had the Shellfish Chowder with garlic bread. It was basically the entire ocean in a bowl cooked in a light tomato béchamel. The tiny little potatoes were a nice surprise. Our server Anita was outstanding. She made excellent suggestions, our water glasses were always full and she checked in on us often. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and bid adieu when we left, thanking us for our patronage. Based on the thoughtful reply from Bruce (business manager) we recently gave 59 Almshouse another try. We called and made a reservation on a busy weekend-- the phone experience was much better. When we got there we were told at the desk that "it might be awhile" and no one would commit to a time. Apparently there were some large parties who had dug in for the evening and it created a mess with the later reservations. One of the managers came walking by and since I saw people who had arrived after us getting seated, he intervened. However, this time everyone was friendlier and apologetic-- big improvement. Our waitress (who was great) told us she'd been called in last minute since there were some staffing shortages. In spite of all that the food was excellent as usual and I am amazed that, as busy as she was, she was able to keep checking on us. And we got thanked when we left. So Bruce, thanks for the improvements--noticed and it made a difference. We'll be back read more

Also a party of 6 could not be accommodated outside. Why?? I don't know. There were plenty of empty tables. Richboro has been starving for a go-to Restaurant. 59 Almshouse is that spot. I came with a friend on a pretty busy Friday night; parking was a bit rough, not many spots on a full night, and not much lighting in the parking area. Once we finally got inside, the place was packed, but because we made a reservation, we were seated within minutes. We were seated in one of the rare booths in the restaurant, and for future note, they aren't the best. A bit tight for my liking, not very reclining or relaxing, and you can feel the wooden studs in the booth! My favorite thing we ordered was a custom job on the 3-cheese flatbread, but make sure to get it without the marinara sauce. It's really delicious, and reminded me of a certain pizza you can get on the Ocean City Boardwalk, delicious. The French Onion Soup was good, but ultimately nothing special. The Cheesesteak Empanadas suffer from a bit of misbranding. First off, make sure you eat them with the cheese sauce it comes with, that is what really makes them great, but even still they aren't a "cheesesteak". Yes, they have cheese and meat together, but it tasted more like a meat pie then what I traditionally think of a cheesesteak. Nevertheless, they are very good. The Blues Burger was excellent in taste, and they for sure load it up with all the extras on it, except there is just one issue; the bun falls apart. The bun compared to the rest of the burger is tiny, puny, and can't support the weight of the burger. It fell apart quickly, and I soon found myself using a fork to eat what should be a handheld. One thing all of these dishes have in common is the portion size is quite large. They don't skimp. 59 Almshouse is excellent food-wise, but you are going to pay a premium from it. I haven't done an exact study, but I don't think it would be a stretch for me to say that it is more expensive here then anywhere else in Richboro. Our waitress was very friendly, and checked up on us quite often. The atmosphere, at least in the bar area, is pretty exciting, and a very nice, barn-industrial look. 59 Almshouse is the best Richboro has to offer. Although the food was good, this was the noisiest restaurant i've ever been to! We were with another couple and couldn't hold a conversation. It was too dark to read the menu and we had to use our cell phone lights. Have no complaints about the food, and the waitress was nice, service good. read more

After years of driving by and talking about stopping in, we finally went this afternoon for lunch. All I can say is that I wish we came by sooner! This was the first time that I can remember when everyone in the party (2 adults, 3 kids) all raved about the food and said how good it was. The service was also great - thanks Carol! We ordered: Chili, nachos, Winston burger w/fries, Sweet potato burger w/side salad, 2 chicken sandwiches and the sliders. The bacon on the Winston burger was thick cut and you could taste the smokiness. The side salad was perfect in taste and presentation. The chicken sandwiches were breaded and fried to perfection. And even the pickiest eater, our 6 year old daughter, loved the sliders w/the pickles. We did not sample any cocktails, but I will make it a point to try the Bucks County Social when we return. I thought that the cost for the quality of food and the area was accurate. And believe me, I don't mind spending a little more if everyone is happy, which is rare at this point. Went here for first time last Saturday evening with a party of four. Was seated immediately and the waitress (Morgan) stopped by and introduced herself. We told her that we were new to the restaurant and without asking she went on to describe how the restaurant makes its dishes and gave us excellent information about almost all of the appetizers and entrees on the menu (a very good employee she is!). My wife decided on the seafood chowder and absolutely loved it (she said it was full of flavor) but wished there was more pieces of the Mahi Mahi fish in it. I ordered the brisket meal and it was delicious as well. In fact, the brisket meal was enough for two servings and I ended up bringing what I could not finish back home. The waitress checked on us at appropriate times and was just really good. Our party was not rushed to finish our meal and it allowed for really good social interactions amongst our table. It was just a really good Saturday evening dinner out with friends at an excellent restaurant. We will definitely be coming back because we have to try all the other good dishes on the menu. I went here for lunch today with mom and we had a wonderful experience. Great and friendly service. I ordered the Sticky Rice Bowl with chicken and it was incredible. Probably one of my favorite dishes that I have ever ordered in a restaurant. I loved all the flavors, variety of vegetables, and generous portion. The wasabi sauce on the side was also really good. The waitress suggested I order it with the Thai chicken instead of the regular grilled chicken and she was right! So good I didn't want it to end. My mom ordered the Sweet Potato Burger (meatless) and she loved it. It was piled high with avocado and crispy onions; and she got the side of brussel sprouts instead of chips and they were delicious. 59 Almshouse is the address of an attractive roadhouse in Richboro, PA. It is all light wood and stone, with a cathedral ceilinged barroom that echoes with the sound of a full house at happy hour and a more sedate rear dining room for families and more intimate conversation. We stopped in for dinner on a Friday evening, just in time to catch the last five minutes of HH. My watermelon-tini and the bourbon barrel aged ale were both nice to get our appetites revved for what was to come. Blackened fish tacos and Southwest burger got top billing. We found both fairly well constructed and tasty, although my try at creativity, asking that the side of fries be poutine-ized was somewhat less than hoped. The cod in the tacos was fresh and well blackened in a frypan. The semi-authentic Mexican fixings (avocado, lettuce, aoili crema) we're on target. An enjoyable dish for sharing, although the tiny cup of black beans was cool and not flavorful. The burger was delivered partially medium (as requested), but partially rare, making for a hand packed patty that was partially quite good, and also half less than hot enough. Must have been grilled on the outskirts of the steel. Still, it was okay. The brown gravy that covered the fries was flavorful, but too heavy for the potatoes and turned them soggy, sacrificing texture and crispiness for something closed to chunky mashed. Didn't work for me, but it was my idea so I don't put that on the kitchen. Won't do it again. We sat at a small booth in the barroom. Tight fit. The house was full of happy timers of mixed age, all having fun. It was obvious that '59' was a well known local hangout where everyone was welcome. We enjoyed the atmosphere.
