What I got was a mediocre hamburger patty on toasted bread-not really grilled w butter like a real patty is-no thousand island on the patty melt and no extra thousand island dressing on the side. Craving for a typical American style breakfast while we are still in COVID-19, this local small business is still up and running. They offer take-out, deliverey, and dine-in (must wear a mask). Since I'm still new in AZ and continue to explore new places to eat, I also like to help small business so I am glad to find this hidden gem! The young lady, Krista, was very polite and knew their menu as I placed my phone order. When I went to pick up my food order. Inside is a nice restaurant settings reminds me of a coffee shop but more modern looking little place. There were a few dine-in customers looked like the locals. While paying for my order the owner, Dawn, was very friendly and we even had a small conversation while I was waiting for my card to go through. I definitely will be coming back here as a dine-in customer so I can get the full effect! Veggie Omelet - perfect amount of veggies (spinach, tomatoes, onion, and bell peppers). Well folks we decided to forgo the stay at home and make breakfast and cruise on down to this quaint and delicious diner. I have been here before and really loved the ambiance, the food and service. However I failed to share my views! So let me tell you about today! I was tummy growling near hangry and very indecisive of what to get.. until our server Karen approached us with the kindest warm greeting and smiling eyes ( she has a mask on) She made some amazing suggestions .. including my fave Pozole!! As you can see I went with the Pozole, it was amazing! The broth had a very authentic flavor , the pork was tender and the hominy was perfectly soft/ firm the way I like it! Tossed in some radish , cabbage , some hot salsa to add to the heat and just for that breakfast flare I added a cooked egg on top! I love this place! The local, friendly vibe that is priceless. Sunday morning and there was a guitar player. Lots of good food. Service was just so inviting and authentic. Prices are really reasonable for the amount of food and the location. Sorry, had just walked out of another brunch place and was starving so forgot to take photos of the food. Will do so next time. The service was absolutely terrible.They forgot my drink.Had to ask the waiter about it.Our food came they forgot my wife's toast.I finally went to ask about our toast. They looked very puzzled and then brought one piece of toast.Our you kidding! OK let's talk about the food portions.One piece of toast, 2 or 3 egg omelette and small bowl of fruit. For 11$ each. When we approached the manager a young gentleman approached us.We told him our experience And he said he would take 25% off our bill. We said no that he should just comp the meal because of the lousy service and he got rude with us. The manager stepped in and said OK. We said thank you and left. We've been regulars for about 3 years now. Dawn and the entire team are truly amazing. We haven't seen a big shift in the staff which is a sign of good management and a good restaurant. OK, so the music is quite loud in there even though it wasn't anything crazy the problem service was slow which I was willing to deal with. The main issue is when the food came. It was cold biscuits and gravy were subpar The biscuits were a rectangular pattern had just been pulled from a package of bridge pre-cooked biscuits. They were not even warmed up, and Luke warm gravy poured over them not very good at all. Hashbrowns were room temperature. The only thing hot was the egg which was over easy when I ordered over medium I won't be picky about that, but it was covered in Greece. That was the most enjoyable part, bacon was good but once again, it was cold. My wife had a cowboy scramble. It was the worst of the worst she got an English muffin with no butter on it which we are OK with, but they didn't even bother to toast the English muffin and the scramble with scrambled eggs with hashbrowns and once again room temperature. Will not be coming back here again I'm surprised at the number of stars this place has received. I said something to the waitress about the temperature of the food because she could see that I did not eat more than three bites. It went in one ear and out the other didn't seem to care. read more

And in the bathroom was a sign instructing visitors to "not flush toilet paper". In fact there was no toilet paper to flush anyway but why would you not be allowed to flush toilet paper!? This place is within walking distance, so I've had breakfast here a handful of times. The food is your typical breakfast-diner fare. The portions are really big, and I always seem to have leftovers. The pancakes and French toast are among my favorites, though I also enjoy the biscuits with gravy, and their egg-meAt-hash browns combos. I've been here on weekend mornings and weekday mornings. We used to be regulars here, but after new ownership this place is not the same. The pancakes and French fries are different and not as good and the portion sizes are smaller. My biggest issue is with the service. It used to feel like you were entering a diner where everyone knew you and honestly cared about your experience. Updated 3rd review. Well they now have a regular menu again. However our service this time it was terrible. We came in and sat down and noticed crumbs all over the table. When a server finally came over to us (which took some time) we asked him to clean the table he said OK and then promptly put down or napkins and utensils on the dirty table left for close to five minutes and came back and wipe the table. He also brought new utensils upon our request. We placed our order and when the food arrived the Belgian waffle was cold not even warm and the pecans were on top of it instead of in it. I tried to put butter on it but I was it was cold and the butter was cold it never melted. We ate the rest of our meal While I waited for the server to come back and check on us. Which he never did. Finally as we were finished eating except for I had not touched the Belgian waffle I finally was able to flag down the manager and she had a new Belgian waffle made properly. The server only came back to our table to give us the receipt Bill. I was quite frustrated at this point because there were several older ladies to tables over but he was checking on every 2 to 4 minutes but he never bothered to check back on us. That's unacceptable. I appreciate the manager understanding the situation and correcting it and taking the cost of the Belgian waffle off of our bill. However this used to be one of our favorite places to go to lunch when we were downtown. I'm just unsure how many more times I'm willing to try coming here. We never had issues like this when the old owners were running the café. I will say this the food is still good when served at the proper temperature and that's the only reason we continue coming. As a final note I hope the owners will explain to the servers that if you bring ice tea out to somebody you should bring an ice tea spoon also. So that people can stir their sweetener in their tea And not have to use the butter knife instead. read more

I ordered a salad that was supposed to have all this fruit in it and candied walnuts. It didn't have anything advertised in it and how does a business run out of ranch dressing????? The chili didn't even resemble chili and after 1 bite took it back up to the counter and told them just how terrible it tasted. Stopped by for a quick lunch with a co-worker. It's open seating and we grabbed a booth and placed our order. He had a side salad and a bowl of chicken noodle soup. I had the roasted turkey sandwich which is turkey, bacon, spinach on sourdough with fries and a pickle on the side. The sandwich was a little greasy but delicious and the fries were crisp and delicious. My coworker enjoyed his soup so much he ordered a second cup. The staff was pleasant enough. A little slow at times but nothing to get upset about. The prices are fair. I am definitely going to go back and try their breakfast. I finally made it back here for breakfast and I am glad I did. I had the ham and cheese omelette which came with big chucks of ham and lots of cheese. It was delicious! It also had a side of hash browns and an English muffin. I love this place and try to always support local businesses but today the service was just awful. I was immediately seated and offered a drink. From there, it may as well have been self serve since no one ever returned to my table to take my order. After waiting about 15 minutes, I went to the bar to ask if someone would take my order. After placing my order, again a 15-30 minute wait until I, again, went to the bar to ask about my order. My inlet was cold, the hash browns were cold and mushy and not once did anyone ever come to the table to check in or ask about my meal. Again, I love this little locally owned cafe, and I'll return because I do like it, but this experience should be a signal to the owners that customers, like me, will only take bad service infrequently before they abandon the business. As mad as I was, I still left my server a reasonable tip. My intent isn't to punish her but to point out that I expect more, especially given the restaurant wasn't even that busy. At any given time, there were several employees standing behind the counter on their phones rather than delivering orders that were clearly piling up at the kitchen window! We have stopped at the 5th Avenue Cafe quite a few times, and never have written a review. So this morning while we were out decided to stop and have breakfast. My better half had the one egg, hash browns, turkey sausage, and toast. I felt like having pancakes so I ordered the small stack. I looked around and noticed their wall decor was different. Which is fine by me, gives it a different look feel, even though the rest of the restaurant hasn't changed since I began coming here. This place is more frequented by local surrounding residents living nearby. Even though it's situated right across from a hospital you don't see much of the hospital staff here. Strictly loyal customers are the ones that frequent here. This place serves breakfast and lunch only. The inside is has an older style charm that makes you feel comfortable. The restrooms are for both genders and kept clean. There is a breakfast and lunch counter as well. I must mention this as well, one of our late Senators came here in the mornings to have breakfast at his favorite seat at the counter. Whenever I come here I always get a little bit nostalgic, for if I lived nearby I would even just come here for coffee and just sit at the breakfast counter and have a conversation with the restaurant staff. By the way I can't forget their restaurant employees which provide very good service. If you happen to be by this place, stop by and have a breakfast or lunch, or whatever fancies you. read more

I Love the old time bar feeling this place has. The food was awesome, I haven't had a burger that good in a long time! It's large and Juicy, and the toppings bar let me make it just the way I like. The staff seemed to be slightly less than happy to be there, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and think maybe they weren't having the best day. The place was clean, and although the Freestyle Coke machine was down, there was a regular fountain drink machine made available so we could still enjoy a cold drink with our burgers. Even though the restaurant was crowded and there was music playing softly, we had no problem hearing one of the staff welcome us and let us know we could sit where we like. Everything tasted incredible. It's the kind of place that has been cooking their menu with love for a long time so everything has had its deliciousness perfected. Just really outstanding flavor. Zeus made sure we had everything we needed and kept our drinks refilled throughout the meal without being intrusive. A true masterwork in serving. The check was dropped off nearing the end of the meal at the perfect time. With all that we ordered it was only $30. That's right, all that food and only thirty USD. Pretty amazing. Again, 5th Avenue Cafe most likely has a huge following already so this news isn't moving any mountains.
