Came recently with a small group of friends for dinner. All of their first times here and it was funny to hear their thoughts as we walked in! Everyone agreed it was like walking into a restaurant from our youth! One of our group had made a reservation and when we arrived they were sort of ready and took us to the back dining area and then moved tables to accommodate us. Smooth transition and drink orders were taken as soon as we settled. They had prime rib so I opted for the Mom's cut along with their best homemade mashed potatoes and I also chose the mixed vegetables, which appeared to be your common variety of frozen mixed broccoli, carrots and cauliflower. I had forgotten to ask for the gravy on the side but it turned out to be delicious and just made those potatoes that much better! The prime rib was so good, tender, juicy and done to perfection. They serve it with raw horseradish and I asked for some sour cream to tone it down a bit. We both had the salad bar, which I found again to be fresh and stocked well with lots of goodies including beets, peas, and some mayo-based salads. I love their ranch dressing and I actually mixed that with a bit of the Italian just because! Wife had the Pot Roast with mashed potatoes, gravy and roasted carrots. The meat was flavorful and tender and she loved it. Both dishes were huge and we brought some home for leftovers. The pie! Ok, so we learned our first time around that their pies are spectacular and although the wait for them (which was about 15 or more minutes) was long, they didn't disappoint and everyone raved. We got the chocolate cream, there was coconut, banana (next time I'm ordering this!), and berry pies. Their crust is so good, flaky and just tender as heck. OMG this place is AMAZING. I had the turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy and cranberry with green beans. I inquired about the coconut pie when I ordered dinner and they made it for me. It was hands down the best coconut cream pie I ever had. Oh yeah, I ordered the broccoli cheese soup - mostly broccoli - huge chunks perfectly flavored with a little cheese sauce. I've passed by this spot a few times and have stopped in before just for the sweet butter and bread, which honestly was enough to keep me curious. I don't usually go to this area of town so I thought I'd try a little something different while over there. My Mother's Restaurant looked like it might be it. It's an old strip mall right on the road with limited parking. I was there early so I'm guessing it wasn't a problem. At first I was the only one there and then three other groups came in. The menu is not huge but it's varied. The weight staff was quick and kind. I have sea bass on the menu for $17! So I got it! But I won't do it again. It was dry, a day old, And Char grilled which I don't like. I did like the green beans a lot. They've been cooked long enough and had some flavor besides of can taste. They have a small salad buffet with just the right amount of things and even blue cheese dressing! It's clean and well kept. I didn't notice any booths that were cracked or torn. I can't believe I've never reviewed My Mother's Restaurant! It's been a favorite of mine for many years. A friend introduced me to My Mother's Restaurant. It did not look like much from the outside, and I was skeptical as to why she had recommended it. But once I went inside and saw the cute salad bar and the enormous slabs of pie, I knew I was in a great place! Everything is homemade at My Mother's, from the bread, soups, and salads, to the crust on all of their pies. My favorite pies are the chocolate cream and the chocolate peanut butter. The pie flavors vary per day, so be flexible with your choice. You might get to try something new! Their prices are very fair for the large portions of food that you will receive. I've been driving by this local restaurant for like five years and never entertain the thought of eating there until last night when my wife and I were not feeling well and all we wanted was comfort food. We placed an order for delivery, which took a little while. No complaint there because what was delivered was incredible. I ordered the Seabass plate with mixed vegetables, baked potato, and a dinner salad. My wife ordered the chicken chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob and a dinner salad as well. After one year of living up the street, we finally decided to give My Mother's Restaurant a try as we were craving a home style dinner. The restaurant seems somewhat hidden, though right off the Main Street. The interior isn't anything special. A little bit bland and boring, and shall I say outdated? But I had read reviews prior and the place seemed promising. Prices are decent for the offerings and overall service was good. We were given a small loaf of bread which was warm and tasty. Not sure if it was fresh baked but it could pass as though it was. We started off with the sautéed mushrooms which were a great starter. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak dinner which came with one visit to the salad buffet (limited offerings but all vegetables were fresh and crispy, leaving me satisfied), two sides (I chose mashed potatoes and corn on the cob, both of which were tasty). The serving sides were plenty, which certainly justifies the price point. I enjoyed about half of my meal at the restaurant and took my leftovers to have for lunch the next day. My friend ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and a trip to the salad bar as well. And my partner ordered the Chicken Parmesan which came with spaghetti, and also ordered the buffalo wings, both of which he says were good. The salad bar has people constantly dropping other foods in salad toppings.Do not get the clam chowder, you will get sick, they overcook, looks like mush.The roast beef is dry & hard, salad dressing for extra, they don't tell you, they put an extra charge of $4.20 for any extra dressing & don't tell anyone.The rice is hard, they let it sit in pot too long. The experience this time was WAY different than what I had in mind. 2013 GREAT POT PIE I took my daughter here when she came in from WV. I told her of the great pot pie they make here, well it wasn't the same taste. Back then the bowl was lined with dough then the fillings. This time only the top of the bowl had dough on it, it also didn't taste the same flavor the taste was like a can of cream of chicken was added to it, it did not taste like beef at all.... A classic family restaurant with some of the best service I've ever experienced. That, coupled with affordable prices and large portions make this a 5-star establishment in my book. Sure, some of the food items are a little lazy (like the spaghetti and meatballs, prob best to skip that), but others like the prime rib are surprisingly delicious for a spot that seems a little shabby from the outside. Speaking of prime rib, that's what I got! With a side of vegetables and mashed potatoes. The potatoes came slathered with gravy. Yum. The prime rib also included a trip to the salad bar. My only gripe with the salad bar are the super tiny plates; it's hard to build a decent salad in those! Sure, I get it; they are there to keep people from loading up, but for a place that seemingly prides itself on its larger portions, a larger plate for the salad bar would put the place in better alignment and congruence with itself. I flipping love this place. It is named 100% correctly. I feel like some old grandma is in the kitchen throwing down. It feels like grandma put her foot all up in the food. We just happened to be in the area and tried it out. WE WERE HAPPY WE DID! It looks like a hole in the wall from the front, but it is very welcoming & clean in side. The man who was our servers was excellent! Very polite and attentive. They have a small fresh salad bar with everything fresh, crisp and clean. Fresh ot bread and honey butter were brought to the table. My wife got the lasagna, which was a huge portion and came with garlic bread that was about 10" long. I had the meatloaf special. We were both very haappy with everything. My wife got a piece of homemade pumpkin pie, and it was about 1/4 of the pie! And it appeared to be homemade whip cream, not from a can. When working in the office in Phoenix I used to order My Mother's all the time. I was so excited to learn now working from home that they deliver to my home as it's not too far from them. The service and the food has always been superb. My absolute favorite is the steak sandwich and prime rib sandwich. The prices are kinda steep and the food was cafeteria tasting. I got the meatloaf and mash potatoes and the mash was good but the meatloaf could use some more binding to keep it from crumbling. We wanted something good and homey to eat but I didn't feel like cooking today. My Mother's Restaurant has come up quite a bit in my searches and today was the day to grab some food! We put in an order over the phone and food was ready within 15 minutes For 2 open faced turkey sandwiches and 1 lasagna lunch special it was $31 and change. I really appreciated the extra step in wrapping the styrofoam containers in Saran Wrap so that the sauces and such didn't spill anywhere which is great. Annoying to open your bag and gave it filled with sauces. First of all there is a TON of food! They do not skimp on portions. The turkey was perfect and not dry. It was delicious smothered in the brown gravy. The mashed potatoes were just good old mashed potatoes. Nothing more nothing less but delicious smothered in the gravy as well. There is also cranberry sauce served with it which we got on the side. I didn't eat the bread but hubs said everything together was great tasting. The lunch lasagna was served with a piece of garlic bread and tasted really good as well. Meaty and cheesy just like it should be. Overall great tasting food and nice friendly service. My husband and I aren't from this side of the country (we hail from Indiana and Tennessee) and as you can imagine, the food choices are quite... different. It was my birthday, Valentine's Day, and I had seen it pop up a few times when I had Googled 'southern comfort food' and I was dying for some down home cooking. So he conceded to my request and incessant begging, and on our way we were. When we arrived, it was only a ten minute wait. Some would call the decor "outdated" but to me it was nostalgic- the atmosphere reminds me of a grandma's homey, southern Tennessee vibe, with browns and yellows and dimly lit tables. They also have a great salad bar. The service was sub par at best- she seemed rushed and a bit frantic, not very personable but she did say that since it was my birthday, I could have a free slice of cheesecake (which tasted like my mom's homemade cheesecake). The food was a bit pricey for it being "home cooking". My husband had the pot roast and I had the turkey dinner. His was great but my stuffing was goopey and there was too much gravy on the turkey but aside from that, mine was okay. They take tap pay too Another thing I thought (as a former server of 15 years) was rude was at the end, as we were paying, the server came up and grabbed the receipt out of the cashier's hand to see how much we had tipped right in front of us.
