Continuing my culinary tour of the U.S. I found this interesting gem of a place in Bristol, Tennesse. The 620 State Restaurant reminded me of back home and the atmosphere was very upbeat and casual. The service was respectable for this type of place and the music was very 'jive'n'. We started with the Veggie Spring rolls with duck sauce and potstickers. The veggie rolls were quite good and had good flavour. The potstickers not so much. Found them a tad too chewy but overall the flavour was there. The potstickers tasted better with some of the duck sauce. My guest had the Hot Southern Chicken Sandwich and well said it was good but with the Carolina reaper sauce made it the spiciest thing they ate. I ordered the Mushroom burger which is always a fav. The burger was well cooked and juicy but a bit messy. We also ordered the Big Orange rolls and Peppered Tuna to split. The sushi was well presented and the rice had a good flavouring to it although a little too much on the sesame seeds. It wasn't a bad place to visit and I really did enjoy myself here and so yeah would definitely recommend this place. Now onto my next destination in Memphis! Piper K. My friend and I have going to 620 Bristol since the day they opened. In all these years tonight was the worst service experience we ever had. Our bar service was great. Then we moved to a table for dinner. We were excited to have Dallas as our waiter as we had heard good things about him; We even mentioned that to him. My friend and I are the ever big tippers as we have both been in the service industry in our youth. Dallas was the biggest disappointment I have EVER had as a customer. We wanted time to look over menu. We got that. He was no where to be seen so we did have to wait but, okay. He did finally take our order. Yes we would like another drink, anyone anyone. No more wine for us I guess.Where O where is our food. Finally got it (no Dallas to be seen) We never received our salads (which would have cost extra). When he finally did show up he never,never apologized for us not receiving out salad. Did he offer to get them? NO! My guest expressed she received the wrong sauce, he said no she did not. Mind you this is the meal we have been ordering longer then he has been working there. A table was seated four feet away next to us. He visited them 5 yes FIVE times, never turning around to ask if we would like another drink or dessert or if we were content. Between the two of us our total bill tonight was in excess of $100. I really liked this restaurant. We went for dinner with my in-laws because it is one of their downtown favorites. I ordered the salmon entree that comes with cheese grits and asparagus. I also added a side of burgundy mushrooms and a cup of vegetarian tom kha soup. For shared appetizers, we ordered the firecracker shrimp and the big orange roll. Big orange roll: awesome. I normally shy away from soy wrapped sushi rolls, but this was so good. Tempura shrimp roll, topped with a spicy crab salad and chili sauce. Yum! Firecracker shrimp: delicious. Crispy and the sauce was tasty. This was one I wish I had ordered for myself as an entree. Tom kha soup: really good. It had quite a bit of heat to it. I like spicy food so it was alright by me but it may be too spicy for some. It also came with crispy noodles for dipping. Burgundy mushrooms: I personally didn't like these because they tasted too much like wine. More wine than mushroom. I ate a few and pushed the bowl aside. Salmon: this was really good and different. The salmon was served on a bed of grilled asparagus and cheese grits and was topped with a sweet chili sauce (maybe the same as the sushi?). The salmon was cooked perfectly. It had a little char to the exterior but was tender and perfectly cooked inside. Asparagus and grits were good too. Our server was friendly and attentive. Nice decor inside. We had an impossible burger with goat cheese, blackberry jam and bacon on it, and the shrimp tacos. Both meals were excellent. 620 State is a nice cozy Asian American fusion restaurant. It is very similar to the sister restaurants Label and Stir Fry. I would highly recommend trying the tuna tower appetizer, the flavors cannot be beaten. They have a good selection of burgers which I think are frankly much better than the Label. They are cooked to perfection and rarely over cooked. One area of improvement would be their Asian dishes. I find that the drunken noodles and other dishes are so salty it's hard to eat. They might benefit from lower sodium soy. Previously they had a wonderful brunch menu here, but I was disappointed to learn they have discontinued brunch. read more

First impressions: walking in was beautiful. Very rustic and modern. Very clean. Receptionist was friendly and fast-paced. When we got here they told us there was an hour wait but for 7:00p.m. on a Friday night was no surprise to us. Our waitress was really sweet and very attentive. This made us pretty pleased. We both got sushi rolls and first thing we noticed was it was kinda on the steep side as far as price on the sushi. We live close to Label in Johnson City and with it being a sister restaurant, we were slightly disappointed that the prices were a little on the steep side. But with the slight price hike aside we were very very pleased with our meal. The rolls looked gorgeous. I got "The Junkyard" because I am a huge fan of tempura and my fiance got the crunchy shrimp roll. We split our rolls and everything was top notch. Complained about the price at first but honestly it was money well spent! We will eat here again, but unless the price drops a few bucks in the future we probably won't come unless on special occasions.
